Nd/Pd/TiO2 photocatalyst has been synthesized in the presence of Hydroxyl Propyl Cellulose by a sol-gel method with Titanium tetra isopropoxide as titanium precursor. Photocatalyst size and structure properties of the nano-catalyst have been determined by X-ray diffraction. It has contained the anatase phase in advance. The surface area is measured by the Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller(BET) method. The presence of Ti, Nd, and Pd in the nanostructure has been confirmed by EDX, equipped tool with SEM. Photocatalytic degradation of PCB-28 under solar light has been investigated by the Taguchi method with five factors such as the amount of HPC(gg-1sol), the percentage of Pd(%), the percentage of Nd(%), calcination temperature(°C) and calcination time(h). Under optimal conditions such as, 0.003 of HPC (gg-1sol), 0.2 percentage of Pd(%), 0.2 percentage of Nd(%), 700°C of the calcination temperature and 5hours for the calcination time, the best desorption result monitored by Solid-phase nano extraction technique(SPNE) method before degradation process. By GC-ECD, complete degradation of PCBs observed after solar irradiation in 12min, and no PCBs chromatogram observed after this time.

The human Adiponectin (ADIPOQ) is an important adipocytokine that is secreted by adipocytes and plays a key role in the inflammatory response that is associated with insulin-resistant states and T2DM. The transversion of C to G (rs267729) in the promoter region of ADIPOQ gene could affect its transcription and secretion. Development of a new Modified Tetra Primer Amplification Refractory Mutation System - Polymerase Chain Reaction (MTPA-PCR) for detection of rs267729 (C>G) in the human promoter of ADIPOQ gene was sought. A MTPA-PCR for rs267729 polymorphism in a single-step PCR was carried out, and the results were confirmed by ASO-PCR technique in 25 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and 25 controls. We have developed a sensitive single tube MTPA-PCR assay to detect rs267729 (C>G) in the human promoter of ADIPOQ gene, which allowed us to distinguish homozygous and heterozygous forms of this polymorphism successfully. Full accordance between ASO-PCR and MTPA-PCR methods for genotyping of rs267729 (C>G) polymorphism was found. MTPA-PCR could be a reliable, accurate and simple technique for genotyping SNP and different mutations. This work describes a rapid, relatively cheap, high throughput detection of C>G polymorphism in ADIPOQ that can be used in large scale clinical studies. So far, no study was done on optimization methods for genotyping rs267729 (C>G) polymorphism by MTPA-PCR. Here, we successfully adjusted and enhanced this method for recognizing rs267729 (C>G) polymorphism in the promoter of ADIPOQ gene in Argentinian population.

The problem of clathrate hydrate plugging in flow pipes has been the most important issue in the off-shore exploitation since hydrates were found in transport facilities. In recent years, low dosage hydrate inhibitors have attracted much interest among researchers in place of thermodynamic hydrate inhibitors such as methanol and mono ethylene glycol (MEG). Poly-vinyl caprolactam and poly-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAM) are among the hydrate inhibitors that are typically used for polymers containing amide groups. Furthermore, various kinds of polymer inhibitors containing amide group including tetrabutylphosphonium bromide(TBPB), which is a quaternary salt, were synthesized and studied in a methane gas hydrate environment. In this experiment, the injection of 0.1 wt% inhibitor at 276 K and 5 MPa was followed by stirring the water to induce nucleation. From the result, when PNIPAM alone was used as a single KHI, PNIPAM exhibited worst performance among the KHIs tested in this study. But the mixing of TBPB with PNIPAM further extended the induction time and reduced the CH4 hydrate growth rate. The real-time in situ Raman system used to understand the inhibition principle was recorded during CH4 hydrate formation, as a result, PNIPAM showed that the large hydrate cage affected, while TBPB prevented the CH4 molecule from occupying the small cage. TBPB was excellent synergist in blends with PNIPAM for kinetic hydrate inhibition of structure I forming CH4 hydrate.

In this work, two different adsorbent were comparatively used and developed preconcentration of ultra-trace levels of copper ions by flow injection analyses for atomic absorption spectrometry. Copper ions were preconcentrated on a mini-column packed with epichlorohydrin cross-linked silica gel-chitosan composite beads and epichlorohydrin cross linked multiwalled carbon nanotubes-chitosan composite beads. 0.1 M Ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid and 0.1 M nitric acid solutions were used in order to remove the copper ions from the adsorbents. The factors affecting preconcentration of copper (II) ions such as sample and eluent flow rate, loading time, pH, eluent concentration, interfering ions were investigated. Under the optimized parameters, detection limits of the methods were obtained as 2 ng mL−1 for epichlorohydrin cross linked silica gel-chitosan composite beads and 1.3 ng mL−1 for epichlorohydrin cross linked multiwalled carbon nanotubes-chitosan composite beads with enrichment factor of 23 and 19.2 respectively. The recoveries and intra-day and inter-day precisions for copper ions were >90.0% and >3% respectively. In order to validate the developed methods, a certified reference material of drinking water, was analyzed and the determined values were in good agreement with the certified values. The developed methods have also been applied to the determination of copper (II) ions in Gediz River in Turkey with satisfactory results.

Objective: Chitosan nanoparticles (CS-NP) can imbibe water insoluble anticancer agents into its hydrophobic multicores. In the present study, chitosan nanoparticles, a nanoscale drug carrier system is investigated for its potential as a drug delivery system for porphyrin based photodynamic therapy. Methods: Zinc meso tetra phenyl porphyrin (ZnmTPP) encapsulated CS-NP was prepared by ionic gelation method. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using dynamic light scattering studies, zeta potential analysis and AFM analysis. Results: Freshly prepared chitosan nanoparticles had an average hydrodynamic diameter of 175 nm and are nearly spherical in shape as per light scattering measurements and atomic force imaging respectively. As nanoscale drug carriers, (ZnmTPP) encapsulated chitosan nanoparticles exhibited high encapsulation efficiency and controlled release pattern. The encapsulated photosensitizer exhibited efficient singlet oxygen generation upon photo irradiation, retaining the photosensitization capacity of encapsulated hydrophobic ZnmTPP. The in vitro phototoxicities of free and nano-encapsulated ZnmTPP, studied using MTT assay in DLA cell lines demonstrate a concentration dependent response of photosensitizer in free and CS-nano formulations.

In this study, hierarchical H-ZSM-5 zeolite is prepared via post-synthetic modification of parent H-ZSM-5 zeolite (Si/Al=35) synthesized from bagasse (BGA) as silica source using desilication with alkaline treatment (AT). For optimizing the effective parameters on desilication, Taguchi method was utilized. Cultivated BGA in the south of the Caspian Sea (Mazandaran province, Iran) is applied for extracting silica powder and used in the synthesis of zeolite. In this work, two responses have been considered. The First and the second responses are the maximum amounts of extracted silicone and the removal of Pb2+ % from aqueous solutions, respectively. For this purpose, the effect of four important factors with three selected levels including; concentration of NaOH solution (0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 M), temperature (25, 55 and 85 Co), time of reflux (30, 60 and 120 min) and molar ratio of TMAOH/ NaOH (0.5, 1 and 1.5) are studied on both of the responses. TMAOH was defined as tetra methyl ammonium hydroxide. According to Taguchi method, the optimum conditions for both responses are concluding as Concentration of NaOH solution=0.2 M, temperature =55 Co, time of reflux=120 min and molar ratio of TMAOH/ NaOH=0.5. The results display that Concentration of NaOH solution in comparison to other factors is the most effective one in both responses. Also, AT-05-ZSM-5 is selected as the optimum zeolite with volumes 278.13 ppm and 90.2 % with S/N ratios 48.878 and 39.097 for the first and the second responses, respectively. Parent H-ZSM-5 and AT-05-ZSM-5 are characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infra-red (IR), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) and inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometery (ICP-OES). AT-05- ZSM-5 demonstrates a limit and uniform meso-pore average size distribution at 7.65 nm using alkaline treatment.

Sung-Yin Yang, Wai-Ling Fong, Wenhua Savanna Chow, Chia-Min Hsu, Chia-Ling Carynn Chan, Shashank Keshavmurthy, and Chaolun Allen Chen (2018) Catch bowl coral, Isopora palifera, is a shallow- water scleractinian species distributed in the Indo-West Pacific region, and has been studied for its reproduction, symbiont diversity, and population genetics. In order to develop microsatellite markers to reveal the genetic connectivity of I. palifera in the Kenting reefs, southern Taiwan, we applied a stepwise approach including Illumina sequencing, primer screening, and validation. DNA sequences of each 6,363,035 read pairs were assembled with high coverage and sequencing depth, and 1,173,835 potential SSRs were identified. A set of 60,986 primers were designed and tested, and six novel microsatellite markers with three type motifs, including 3 di- and 3 tetra- repeats, were successfully isolated. The ranges in number of alleles per locus and observed and expected heterozygosities were 3-5, 0.444-0.538, and 0.375-0.565, respectively. Application of these loci to the genetic diversity of an I. palifera population that experienced bleaching events in the Kenting reef between 1998 and 2015 showed a signature admixture of three clusters without temporal variation. These loci are useful for studying population genetics in the genus Isopora. Our results suggest that next-generation sequencing technology is convenient and cost-effective and can be utilized to isolate microsatellites in other reef-building corals.

Lignocellulosic biomass, the most abundant renewable resource on earth has been regarded as the significant feedstock material for the bio-based economy. For example, corn cob (a lignocellulosic biomass) contains sufficient amount of cellulosic materials (cellulose and hemicellulose) suitable as fermentable sugars and lignin that are built in a compact structure which makes these polymers difficult to access for bioconversion. Pre-treatment is then applied to make the saccharide accessible to enzymatic hydrolysis. However, efficiency of the pre-treatment process is hampered by the process conditions, amongst other factors. As a follow-up to the recent report on the effect of water of crystallization of ZnCl2 hydrated salt on the pre-treatment of South African corn cob, this study reports the parametric effect and optimization of the pre-treatment of South African corn cob in ZnCl2 tetrahydrate salt using response surface methodology approach. The process variables considered during the pre-treatment were temperature, time and ZnCl2 loading/concentration. Data obtained from 30 experimental runs obtained via 2-3 Box-Behnken DoE were used to develop a predictive second-order polynomial regression model that was used to explain the parametric effect (both main and interactive) of the process variables on the sugar yield. Consequently, the model was employed to optimize the process conditions. Results of the one-way ANOVA on the model reiterated the statistical significance of the model to explain the parametric effect with a reliability of 92.5 %, suggesting an error margin of < 8%. The optimization study, via multi-objective numerical optimisation approach, yielded optimal time, temperature, and solvent-to-solid ratio of 90 minutes, 107 oC, and 18 g/g , respectively, for the recovery of a maximum sugar yield of 90%.

Nano pore ZSM-5type membranes were prepared on the outer surface of a porous-mullite tube by in situ liquid phase hydrothermal synthesis. The hydrothermal crystallization was carried out under an autogenous pressure, at a static condition and at a temperature of 180°C with tetra propyl ammonium bromide (TPABr) as a template agent. The molar composition of the starting gel of ZSM-5 zeolite membrane was: SiO2/Al2O3=100, Na2O/Al2O3=0.292, H2O/Al2O3=40–65, TPABr/ SiO2=0.02-0.05. The zeolites calcinations were carried out in the air at 530°C, to burn off the template (TPABr) within the zeolites. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of the membranes consisted of peaks corresponding to the support and zeolite. The crystal species were characterized by XRD, and morphology of the supports subjected to crystallization was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Performance of Nano-porous ZSM-5 membranes was studied for separation of water–unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) mixtures using pervaporation (PV). Finally, a comprehensive unsteady-state model was developed for the pervaporation of water-UDMH mixture by COMSOL Multiphysics software version 5.2. The developed model was strongly capable of predicting the effect of various dimensional factors on concentration and velocity distributions within the membrane module. The best ZSM-5 zeolite membranes had a water flux of 2.22 kg/m2.h at 27°C. The best PV selectivity for ZSM-5 membranes was obtained to be 55.

An easy method was developed for the efficient preparation of diversely new 5,5-disubstituted N(3),N'(3)-linkaged bis-hydantoins. At first, using the same methods, some ketones and terephthalaldehyde were converted to several hydantoins and a new bis-hydantoin , respectively. Then 1,6-dibromohexane, as a mild reagent, was employed for the alkylation and incorporation of synthesized substrates to produce quantitative yields of the desired bis-hydantoins. A tetrakis-hydantoin including four effective heterocyclic rings was also surprisingly synthesized from 5,5'-(1,4-phenylene)bis(imidazolidine-2,4-dione). The aim of this study is to synthesis of bis- and tetra core-hydantoins, bis-drug-like molecules employing a practical and reliable reaction process that requires slight amount of reagents; a process that is simple, accessible producing remarkable yields from an easy procedure that is cost effective and/or environmentally friendly. The resultant hydantoins potentially have bis- or multi-drugs behaviors in comparison with mono-counterparts, as cited in literatures for similar heterocyclic compounds. Spectral analysis confirmed the structures of the synthesized hydantoins.

The photocatalysis activity of mixed nanocomposite ZrxTi1-xO2 catalyst was studied. The catalysts with x=0, 0.1 and 0.2 were prepared via sol-gel method in a reactor with rapid micromixing using titanium tetra- isopropoxide and zirconium tetra-propoxide precursors and n-propanol solvent. The colloids were coated on cleaned borosilicate beads and treated at temperatures in the range between 400 and 600 °C to achieve crystalline anatase phase. The prepared materials were characterized by ICP-OES, BET, TDA and optical absorption measurements. The photocatalytic experiments were carried out in a continuous-flow fixed bed reactor on the gaseous ethylene decomposing. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared material was depended on the elemental compositions and calcination temperature. The enhanced activity, 50% higher compared to pure anatase TiO2, was obtained in the material containing 10 mol% Zr and thermally treated at 500 °C.

A highly sensitive electrochemicalimmunosensor was developed to detect hCG based on immobilization ofhCG-antibody (anti-hCG) onto robust nanocomposite containing Gr, Chit,1-methyl-3-octyl imidazolium tetra fluoro borate ionic liquid (IL)(Gr-IL-Chit). AuNPs were used to immobilize hCG antibody on the modifiedelectrode. The amine groups of the antibody are covalently attached toAuNPs/Gr-IL-Chit nanocomposite. CV, EIS and SEM were employed to characterizethe assembly process and the performance of the immunosensor. DPV and EISstudies demonstrated that the formation of antibody-antigen complexes decreasedpeak current and increased Rct of [Fe(CN)6]3−/4−redox pair at the AuNPs/Gr-IL-Chit/GCE. The optimization of the pH ofsupporting electrolyte and the incubation time were studied in details. Becauseof the synergistic effect of IL, Chit and Gr and the unique properties ofAuNPs, the obtained immunosensor exhibited a wide linear response to hCG in tworanges from 0.005-1.484 and 1.484-411.28 (mIU ml-1). A relativelylow detection limit of 0.0016 mIU ml-1 (S/N = 3) was calculated fromDPV. Satisfactory results were obtained for determination of hCG in human serumsamples.

The design of a tetra band resonant antenna using Koch iteration is presented in this paper. The concept is a fusion technology involving fractal antenna with slots on the radiating patch. Four bands of resonances are optimized by using an FEM based simulator. Koch Fractals are simulated up to iteration two. Circular slots and triangular slots are also etched on the patch to freeze the required spectras. The designed antenna resonates at 2.61, 6.25, 8.21, 14.58 GHz. The gains are found to be adequate in all the bands with Omnidirectional Patterns. Keywords: Microstrip Patch Antenna, Fractal Antennas, Linear Polarization, Wireless Applications
