Kinetic Modeling in Temperature-Modulated Semiconductor Gas Sensor Utilizing Eley-Rideal Mechanism and Its Application in Discriminative Detection of VOCs.

This study presents a comprehensive kinetic investigation for describing the dynamic sensing process of semiconductor metal oxide (SMO)-based gas sensors, with a focus on the Eley-Rideal mechanism as a valid pathway. The modeling elucidates the direct interactions between volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and adsorbed oxygen on the material surface, providing insights into the temperature-dependent response characteristics of the sensor and addressing selectivity toward different VOCs fundamentally. By incorporating the effects of thermal modulation, the kinetic model was validated through theoretical fitting of experimental data obtained from a fabricated SnO2 nanoparticle gas sensor exposed to ethanol, n-propanol, toluene, and butanone at systematically varying operating temperatures. The results demonstrated that the model accurately captures response transient values, enabling a general framework for qualitatively discriminating specific gases based on their unique reaction kinetics. Furthermore, a machine learning procedure containing the above model and power laws of quantitative concentrations after identifying compounds was developed for the prediction of target VOCs. The qualitative accuracy was determined to be 99.4%, while quantifying with the mean absolute errors of 5.0, 7.5, 4.0, and 8.9 within the range of 25-200 ppm, respectively. The precise and straightforward strategy facilitates the response modeling of SMO-based gas sensors, offering a valuable platform for the designing model-driven algorithms applicable in gas analysis and monitoring.

A comparative study of temperature-dependent characteristics and non-local behavior in a submerged microstretch thermoelastic medium using two models

This article is concerned with a thermoelastic response in a non-local micro-stretch completely covered in the endless non-viscous fluid under temperature dependent, the medium is investigated employing the theory of Green-Naghdi (G-N III) and the model of three-phase-lag (3PHL).Basic equations are derived based on these models. The normal mode technique is employed to achieve an analysis solution to the problem. The study used a magnesium crystal element to compare non-local measurements of thermo-micro-stretch elasticity in water using the (G-N III) theory and the (3PHL) model. The non-local effect has been discovered to have a considerable impact on all physical quantities. Furthermore, comparisons are made between three different frequency values.

Variable‐Range Hopping Conduction in Amorphous, Non‐Stoichiometric Gallium Oxide

AbstractAmorphous, non‐stoichiometric gallium oxide (a‐GaOx, x < 1.5) is a promising material for many electronic devices, such as resistive switching memories, neuromorphic circuits and photodetectors. So far, all respective measurements are interpreted with the explicit or implicit assumption of n‐type band transport above the conduction band mobility edge. In this study, the experimental and theoretical results consistently show for the first time that for an O/Ga ratio x of 0.8 to 1.0 the dominating electron transport mechanism is, however, variable‐range hopping (VRH) between localized states, even at room temperature and above. The measured conductivity exhibits the characteristic exponential temperature dependence on T−1/4, in remarkable agreement with Mott's iconic law for VRH. Localized states near the Fermi level are confirmed by photoelectron spectroscopy and density of states (DOS) calculations. The experimental conductivity data is reproduced quantitatively by kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) simulations of the VRH mechanism, based on the ab‐initio DOS. High electric field strengths F cause elevated electron temperatures and an exponential increase of the conductivity with F1/2. Novel results concerning surface oxidation, magnetoresistance, Hall effect, thermopower and electron diffusion are also reported. The findings lead to a new understanding of a‐GaOx devices, also with regard to metal|a‐GaOx Schottky barriers.

AlN/AlGaN heterojunction field-effect transistors with a high-AlN-mole-fraction Al0.72Ga0.28N channel grown on single-crystal AlN substrate by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition

This paper presents research results on AlN/AlGaN heterojunction field-effect transistors (HFETs) with a high-AlN-mole-fraction Al0.72Ga0.28N channel grown on a single-crystal AlN substrate by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. Material evaluation results confirmed that the grown AlGaN layer was 100% coherently grown for the underlying AlN substrate and thereby had superior crystal quality as well as the substrate. The fabricated AlGaN-channel HFETs with a gate length of 2 μm exhibited pinch-off characteristics with the max. current density (I DS_MAX) of 21 mA mm−1, the on-state resistance of 250 Ωmm, the peak transconductance of 4.5 mS mm−1 with the threshold voltage of –4.6 V, and the on/off ratio of 4 × 10−5. The temperature dependence of DC characteristics confirmed that the I DS_MAX decreased by 15% and the off-leakage current increased from 60 nA mm−1 to 10 μA mm−1 within the temperature range from room temperature to 200 °C.

Experimental and Computational Study of Ethanolamine Ices under Astrochemical Conditions

Ethanolamine (NH2CH2CH2OH) has recently been identified in the molecular cloud G+0.693-0.027, situated in the SgrB2 complex in the Galactic center. However, its presence in other regions, and in particular in star-forming sites, is still elusive. Given its likely role as a precursor to simple amino acids, understanding its presence in the star-forming region is required. Here, we present the experimentally obtained temperature-dependent spectral features and morphological behavior of pure ethanolamine ices under astrochemical conditions in the 2–12 μm (MIR) and 120–230 nm (VUV) regions for the first time. These features would help in understanding its photochemical behavior. In addition, we present the first chemical models specifically dedicated to ethanolamine. These models include all the discussed chemical routes from the literature, along with the estimated binding energies and activation energies from quantum chemical calculations reported in this work. We have found that surface reactions CH2OH + NH2CH2 → NH2CH2CH2OH and NH2 + C2H4OH → NH2CH2CH2OH in warmer regions (60–90 K) could play a significant role in the formation of ethanolamine. Our modeled abundance of ethanolamine complements the upper limit of ethanolamine column density estimated in earlier observations in hot core/corino regions. Furthermore, we provide a theoretical estimation of the rotational and distortional constants for various species (such as HNCCO, NH2CHCO, and NH2CH2CO) related to ethanolamine that have not been studied in existing literature. This study could be valuable for identifying these species in the future.

Fast switching Ga2O3 Schottky barrier power diode with beveled-mesa and BaTiO3 field plate edge termination

Power devices rely on ideal edge termination to suppress the electric field crowding and avoid premature breakdown before the material's critical field is reached. In this work, a hybrid electric field management configuration, featuring the combination of beveled-mesa (BM) termination and high-k oxide BaTiO3 field plate (FP), was implemented in Ga2O3 Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs). This BMFP-SBD realizes a breakdown voltage (BV) of 1.7 kV with extremely low reverse leakage current, outperforming the BM terminated SBD with BV of 0.64 kV and bare SBD with BV of 0.22 kV. Based on the temperature-dependent reverse characteristics, the dominant leakage mechanism transforms from Poole–Frenkel (P–F) emission in BM-SBD to variable-range-hopping (VRH) in BMFP-SBD at high bias. In particular, under switching conditions of di/dt up to 420 A/μs, the BMFP-SBD exhibits superior dynamic switching characteristics with a short reverse recovery time of 10.1 ns, which are comparable with those in advanced commercial SiC SBDs. These findings underscore the potential of Ga2O3 SBD enabled by BM and high-k FP edge termination for high-speed and high-voltage power electronics applications.

Investigation of Upper Critical Magnetic Field in 1111‐Type High‐Temperature Iron‐Based Superconductor SmFeAsO1−xFx

ABSTRACTIn this research work, we used a two‐band model to study the theoretical analysis of the upper critical magnetic field of a high‐temperature iron‐based superconductor . The graphs of the high‐temperature iron‐based superconductor's upper critical magnetic field (((T) and ) and angular dependence of the field () versus temperature were effectively plotted. The phase diagrams of the temperature‐dependent upper critical magnetic fields versus temperature were suppressed at the transitional temperature and decreased with rising temperature for both directions of the symmetry axis. Additionally, we plotted the phase diagrams and derived the Ginzburg–Landau (GL) parameters (( and ). At the superconducting critical temperature of the superconducting material, these GL parameters diverge at the transitional temperature. Furthermore, a phase diagram of GL characteristic parameter temperature dependence was plotted. By doping fluorine atoms into the parent compound Sm‐1111, the transitional temperature of this superconductor material increased, reaching a value of 54 K and above. Finally, our theoretical conclusion is consistent with the previous experimental results.

Two-Dimensional Hydration and Triple-Interlayer Lattice Structures in Sulfate-Intercalated Graphene Oxide Nanosheets

Sulfate anions (SO42−) are pivotal in various scientific and industrial domains, including mineralogy, biology, and materials science. While extensive research has elucidated sulfate hydration in bulk solids, liquids, and gaseous clusters, a significant gap persists in understanding sulfate interactions within two-dimensional materials, particularly graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets. This study investigates the intricate hydration phenomena and novel triple-interlayer lattice configurations that emerge from sulfate intercalation in GO nanosheets. Utilizing a straightforward methodology for obtaining precise X-ray measurements of confined nanospaces, we analyzed the temperature-dependent behavior and structural characteristics of these systems. Our findings reveal how sulfate ions modulate interlayer spacing, the dynamics of GO layers, and phase transitions. This research offers an atomic-scale understanding of hybrid hydration behaviors within confined SO4-H2O nano-environments, advancing our knowledge of sulfate interactions in two-dimensional materials.

Current-driven mechanical motion of double stranded DNA results in structural instabilities and chiral-induced-spin-selectivity of electron transport.

Chiral-induced-spin-selectivity of electron transport and its interplay with DNA's mechanical motion are explored in a double stranded DNA helix with spin-orbit-coupling. The mechanical degree of freedom is treated as a stochastic classical variable experiencing fluctuations and dissipation induced by the environment as well as force exerted by nonequilibrium, current-carrying electrons. Electronic degrees of freedom are described quantum mechanically using nonequilibrium Green's functions. Nonequilibrium Green's functions are computed along the trajectory for the classical variable taking into account dynamical, velocity dependent corrections. This mixed quantum-classical approach enables calculations of time-dependent spin-resolved currents. We showed that the electronic force may significantly modify the classical potential, which, at sufficient voltage, creates a bistable potential with a considerable effect on electronic transport. The DNA's mechanical motion has a profound effect on spin transport; it results in chiral-induced spin selectivity, increasing spin polarization of the current by 9% and also resulting in temperature-dependent current voltage characteristics. We demonstrate that the current noise measurement provides an accessible experimental means to monitor the emergence of mechanical instability in DNA motion. The spin resolved current noise also provides important dynamical information about the interplay between vibrational and spin degrees of freedom in DNA.

Non-isothermal Fractional Order Two-surface Viscoplastic Model for Stiff Clays

Stiff clay exists widely in the world, but its significant time- and temperature-dependent mechanical features have not been fully modelled. In the context of fractional consistency viscoplasticity and bounding/subloading surface theory, this study proposes a novel non-isothermal fractional order two-surface viscoplastic model for stiff clays. First, with proposing a generalized plastic strain rate, the isotach viscosity is modified and extended to both over-consolidated and non-isothermal conditions that takes into consideration the effects of temperature and OCR on thermal accelerated creep. Then, two strain rate and temperature dependent yield surfaces are proposed with isotropic and progressive hardening rules to consider thermal collapse, strain rate effects, and smooth transition from elastic to viscoplastic behaviors. Next, the stress-fractional operator of the loading surface, according to the principle of the fractional consistency viscoplasticity, is introduced to describe the non-associativity of stiff clays. Finally, the predictive ability of the model is validated through simulating triaxial tests on Boom clay with various stress paths considering the temperature- and time-dependent features of stiff clays.

Comparative investigation of structural, morphological and temperature-dependent photoluminescence characteristics of trivalent rare-earth-activated NaCaPO4 phosphors for solid-state lighting applications

This study explores the synthesis, structure, morphology, and photoluminescence features of trivalent RE3+-activated NaCaPO4 phosphors, aiming to develop phosphor materials for white-light-emitting diode (WLED) applications. Single-phase polycrystalline NaCa(1-x) REx3+ PO4 (REx3+ = Sm, Eu, Dy, and Tb) phosphor materials with various REx3+-doping percentiles were produced by a solid-state reaction process, which were analyzed using various characterization techniques. The FullProf Suite software program was used for phase evidence and crystalline structure analysis, confirming the composition of orthorhombic materials as a single phase. FE-SEM micrographs revealed asymmetrically stacked morphologies across all the compositions. This study reveals that trivalent RE3+-activated phosphors produced exceptional PL outcomes. Dexter's and Blasse's approaches were used to establish the interaction mechanisms and critical energy transfer ranges as dipole-dipole. Lifetime decay patterns were used to fit a bi-exponential function and the resulting values were approximated in milliseconds. This study reveals that trivalent RE3+-activated NaCaPO4 phosphors, with their thermal resilience and color integrity, have potential applications in solid-state lighting (SSL) technology.

Fiber temperature sensor based on dual-wavelength emitting Mg0.388Al2.408O4: Mn2+/Mn4+ phosphors for real-time temperature monitoring

Single doped Mg0.388Al2O3.408O4 phosphor was prepared and multivalent Mn ion (Mn2+ and Mn4+) emission was achieved in a single host. The structure, morphology, and luminescence characteristics of Mn ions in Mg0.388Al2O3.408O4 were discussed in detail, especially the temperature dependent emission characteristics of Mn ions. Based on the fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) of Mn2+versus Mn4+ and the decay lifetime of Mn4+ emission as the temperature readout, a dual-mode optical temperature-sensing mechanism was proposed and studied in the temperature range of 293–473 K. The maximum relative sensitivities (Sr) are derived as 2.83 % K−1 (at 373 K based on FIR) and 3.40 % K−1 (at 473 K based on decay lifetime), respectively. The temperature sensing characteristics of Mg0.388Al2.408O4: Mn2+/Mn4+ powders in a full fiber system were studied, which can provide thermal-sensitive emissions at dual-wavelengths for stable ratiometric temperature sensing with good precision and repeatability. The constructed all fiber temperature sensing system has been applied in the on-line monitoring of CPU temperature.

Distribution and Characteristics of Ammonia Concentration by Region in Korea

In this study, the characteristics of ammonia and their effects on secondary particulate matter (PM) formation were analyzed by region in Korea in 2020. The NH3 concentration was high in GJ (11.4 ppb), a neighboring agricultural area, followed by DJ (9.0 ppb) and SE (8.6 ppb), which are located in urban areas. On the other hand, BI (2.6 ppb) and JI (4.5 ppb), which are background regions, demonstrated a lower concentration than other areas. Seasonally, ammonia was high in spring and summer, and it generally increased when human activities are active. Therefore, it is believed that the ammonia in the atmosphere not only changes depending on local emissions, but also based on temperature-dependent phase distribution characteristics. For SE and GJ, regions with relatively high ammonia concentrations, investigations into the effect of ammonia on secondary PM formation were conducted. In both regions, the ammonium-to-sulfate mole ratio tended to increase with increasing ammonia or PM2.5 concentration. It can be assumed that the PM2.5 concentration increases as nitrates are formed under the ammonia-sufficient condition. The adjusted gas ratio is generally greater than 4, indicating that there is a lot of free ammonia. Thus, it is estimated that a reduction in ammonia would not be effective to restrain nitrate formation.

Investigation of the temperature-dependent photoluminescence characteristics in Mn2+-doped (PEA)2PbBr4 perovskite

The two-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites demonstrate significant potential for use in photodetectors and white light-emitting diodes. In this study, we successfully synthesized pure and Mn2+-doped (PEA)2PbBr4 perovskite via rapid crystallization. The morphology, structure, magnetic properties, and optical characteristics of them were comprehensively characterized. The unusual behavior of free exciton emission is mainly attributed to electron-phonon coupling and negative thermal quenching effects. The self-trapped exciton emission results from self-trapped excited states and electron-phonon coupling. Moreover, energy transfer phenomena are observed between free exciton emission, self-trapped exciton emission, and Mn2+ emission. These findings offer valuable insights into the luminescence mechanism of two-dimensional layered perovskites.

Thermoelastic analysis of FG-CNTRC cylindrical shells with various boundary conditions and temperature-dependent characteristics using quasi-3D higher-order shear deformation theory

Abstract. This study focuses on performing static analysis of FG-CNTRC cylinder shells with various boundary restrictions, including thermomechanical responses. The governing equations are developed by taking into account the temperature-dependent material features, the quasi-3D high-order shear deformation hypothesis, and the normal transverse stress effect. The temperature gradient inside the thickness is expected to fluctuate, and the distribution pattern is derived by using the heat transfer equation and considering the temperature boundary limitations. A singular trigonometric series and the Laplace transform are used in an analytics solution to address basic equations. This study primarily examines the stress levels at the border region. The findings indicate that it is crucial to take into account the abrupt rise in stress at the boundary area, particularly when the shell’s relative length is small. The reciprocal impact of pressure and temperature load is also emphasized. Significant findings indicate that thermal load may either augment or diminish stress levels, contingent upon the orientation of the pressure and thermal load effect. The results of the study of this issue serve as the foundation for the calculation and design of relevant structures in practical applications. Furthermore, this serves as a foundation for the creation of more intricate issues in the forthcoming.

Synergistic impact of metal/semiconductor (Co@Co3O4) core-shell nanostructures on the structure, electrical, and dielectric properties of BaTiO3-based composites

The synergistic impact of metal/semiconductor nanostructures with controlled size and specific morphology on the structure, electrical, and dielectric properties of BaTiO3-based composites has been investigated. The conductive metal (Co) and semiconductor metal oxide (Co3O4) in the form of core-shell Co@Co3O4 nanoparticles have been used as additives for the first time in the present study. Accordingly, BaTiO3/Co@Co3O4 composite materials with different percentage ratios of 100/0 %, 98/2 %, 95/5 %, 90/10 %, 80/20 %, and 0/100 % have been developed and studied. The prepared ceramic composites were characterized via XRD, SEM, EDX, and impedance analyzer. XRD results revealed the formation of high-purity cubic BaTiO3 phase without any traces of secondary phases, as well as the formation of composite structures when Co@Co3O4 core-shell nanostructures are introduced. No diffraction peaks related to other phases are detected in the composite ceramics. According to SEM and elemental distribution analyses, the Co@Co3O4 core-shell nanoparticles are locally distributed between the BaTiO3 grains and formed 0–3 type composites. The composition- and temperature-dependent dielectric and electrical characteristics were also explored. The incorporation of Co@Co3O4 core-shell nanostructures improved both the mobility of charge carriers and charge carrier density by lowering the barriers that greatly affect polarization in ceramic composites. The electrical conductivity was higher in the composite with a BaTiO3:Co@Co3O4 ratio of 80 %:20 % in comparison to pristine BaTiO3 and other composite ceramics. The dielectric loss tangent (tan δ) is lower for composite ceramics with low additive contents. Furthermore, the resonance maximum in tan δ curves for these samples moves to higher frequencies as temperature increases. Based on Cole-Cole plots, a small and hardly visible suppressed semicircle and a flat line are observed in the studied frequency region. The angle of the semicircles upsurges as the concentration of Co@Co3O4 core-shell nanostructures increases, which can be attributed to the increased inhomogeneity in the composites. The present study may offer some new clues for understanding and developing metal/semiconductor/BaTiO3-based composites.

Effect of aliovalent substitution on the local structure of CaKFe4As4 superconductor

We have investigated the local structure of the iron-based CaKFe4As4superconductor featuring distinct aliovalent substitutions at the Ca and K sites, that is CaKFe4As4, CaK0.9Sr0.1Fe4As4, CaK0.9Ba0.1Fe4As4and Ca0.9Na0.1K0.9Ba0.1Fe4As4. Temperature-dependent Fe K-edge extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements are used to determine the near-neighbors bondlengths and their stiffness. The EXAFS analysis reveals that the Fe-As bondlength undergoes negligible changes by substitution, however, the Fe-Fe bondlength and the As height are affected by the Sr substitution. The superconducting transition temperatures of CaK0.9Sr0.1Fe4As4and CaK0.9Ba0.1Fe4As4are very similar even if the mean As heights are significantly different suggesting that the anion height may not be a unique parameter to describe the superconductivity in CaKFe4As4. The mean As heights show a peculiar temperature dependence characteristic of CaKFe4As4system. Furthermore, the temperature-dependent mean square relative displacements reveal similar Fe-Fe bond stiffness in all samples, instead the Fe-As bond is substantially stiffer in case of CaK0.9Sr0.1Fe4As4. The local structure results are discussed in relation to the differing transport properties of aliovalent substituted 1144 superconductor.

Diphenylacetylene-Incorporating Octaphyrin: A Rigid Macrocycle with Readily Separable Conformational Isomers.

An expanded carbaporphyrinoid analogue, octaphyrin(2,1,1,1,2,1,1,1), containing two rigid diphenylacetylene moieties is reported. In contrast to traditional pyrrolic macrocycles where flexible conformers coexist in dynamic equilibrium, this macrocycle exists as two separable, conformationally stable stereoisomers, denoted as 1A and 1B. The conformational effect of both conformers, as well as their protonated forms, were thoroughly studied using NMR spectroscopy, UV-Vis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Importantly, heating conformer 1B leads to its irreversible conversion to 1A, whereas in its protonated form, 1A·2MSA undergoes irreversible transformation to 1B·2MSA at lower temperatures. These temperature-dependent features establish a foundation for developing new accumulated heat sensors, as demonstrated by the use of the present octaphyrins as a customized thermochromic indicator in steam sterilization. The present study thus underscores how the conformational rigidity of these new polypyrrolic macrocycles imparts properties that are distinct from historically flexible expanded porphyrinoids.

Temperature dependence of the piezoelectric field in GaInN/GaN quantum wells and its impact on the device performance

Temperature-dependent piezoelectric-field characteristics of GaInN/GaN blue quantum wells are experimentally investigated between 100 and 300 K. The results show that the magnitude of the piezoelectric field increases with decreasing temperature with a slope of 1.08 kV cm−1 K−1 due to the increase in a mismatch between thermal expansion coefficients. To understand the impact of temperature-dependent piezoelectric field on the device performance, the external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) of a blue light-emitting diode are measured in the same temperature range. More severe EQE droops are observed at lower temperatures, which can be attributed to the increase in carrier overflow/spill-over to the p-clad layer enhanced by the stronger piezoelectric fields. The larger blueshifts in mean photon energy are simultaneously observed at lower temperatures, which also confirms the stronger piezoelectric fields at lower temperatures.
