An integral test method has been proposed for evaluating neutron nuclear data based on information of spectrum measurements in shielding experimental benchmarks. The method employs a number of different integral measurements, two calculation systems, and a systematic analysis procedure to make concrete recommendation for nuclear data evaluation. The scheme is effective to resolve a problem due to specific reaction and the energy range in nuclear data. A general procedure for the evaluation scheme is described. The method was applied to validate nuclear data in Japanese Evaluated Nuclear Data Library, version 3.1 (JENDL-3.1), and several essential problems were pointed out for iron. The revision work for JENDL-3.2 was performed by Japan Atomic Energy Research institute on the basis of recommendations obtained by using the method. It has been demonstrated that the present method is effective to improve accuracy for nuclear data through a review of the revised iron data in JENDL-3.2.
