Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using leaf extract of Woodfordia fruticosa (L.) for potential therapeutic application

AbstractBACKGROUNDWoodfordia fruticosa is a well‐known medicinal plant traditionally used for various treatment methods. Green synthesis of silver nanocomposite with woodfordia flower extract is well‐investigated. However, the therapeutic potential of Woodfordia fruticosa leaf extract silver nanoparticles against various diseases has yet to be investigated.RESULTSSilver nanoparticles synthesized from Woodfordia fruticosa leaf extract (Wf‐AgNPs) showed UV spectral peaks at 450 nm. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) images, ranging from 20 to 50 nm, confirm the nanosynthesis. The average particle size of 39.63 nm with a zeta potential distribution value 17.0 was observed. Fourier transform infrared peaks ranging from 2942to 669 cm−1 confirm the amines, amides, carboxylic, aldehyde, alkane, phenolic and aliphatic bromo compounds involved in the synthesis of AgNPs. Wf‐AgNPs showed higher antioxidant activity compared to the ascorbic acid and BHT. The phenolic and flavonoid content was 141.66 ± 8.50 mg GAE/100 g dry weight and 191.66 ± 5.6 mg quercetin equivalent/100 g dry weight, respectively. Wf‐AgNPs showed a strong inverse relationship between the dose and viability of the cancer cells. The antibacterial properties of Wf‐AgNPs were confirmed through the bacteria's SEM images. Increased wound healing potential, re‐epithelization and elevation of the tensile strength of the infected skin tissue were observed after applying synthesized Wf‐AgNPs.CONCLUSIONVarious phytochemicals in the synthesized nanoparticles confer antimicrobial, antioxidant, anticancer and wound‐curing potentiality to the Wf‐AgNPs. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry (SCI).

In situ synthesis of silver nanocomposites on paper substrate for the pre-concentration and determination of iron(III) ions

In this study, a green and novel method for in situ synthesis of silver nanocomposites on paper substrate was developed and used for the pre-concentration and determination of Fe3+. Silver nanocomposites were in situ synthesized using tannic acid as reducing and capping agent under a mildly alkaline condition. The mechanism for the Fe3+ detection is based on its coordination with the tannic acid present on the surface of the silver nanocomposites and the formation of aggregates. The colorimetric response between Fe3+ and tannic acid modified silver nanocomposites deposited on the surface of the paper substrate was collected by a smartphone followed by processing with Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1 software. Under the optimal conditions, the color response showed a good linear relationship with Fe3+ concentration in the range of 25.0–500.0 μM. The limit of detection for Fe3+ was calculated to be 10.0 μM. Finally, the developed smartphone assisted paper-based chemical sensor was used to detect Fe3+ in two lake water samples, and the recoveries are in the range of 83.5 %−106.7 %. The sensitivity for Fe3+ detection can be tuned through the pre-concentration steps based on the porous nature of the filter paper. The platform highlights the advantage of simplicity, ease of synthesis, fast response time, and low reagent/analyte volume requirement, which is suitable for point-of-use application in iron ions contamination, especially in the remote or resource-limited regions.

Synthesis of Silver Nanocomposite Based on Carboxymethyl Cellulose: Antibacterial, Antifungal and Anticancer Activities.

Traditional cancer treatments include surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. According to medical sources, chemotherapy is still the primary method for curing or treating cancer today and has been a major contributor to the recent decline in cancer mortality. Nanocomposites based on polymers and metal nanoparticles have recently received the attention of researchers. In the current study, a nanocomposite was fabricated based on carboxymethyl cellulose and silver nanoparticles (CMC-AgNPs) and their antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer activities were evaluated. The antibacterial results revealed that CMC-AgNPs have promising antibacterial activity against Gram-negative (Klebsiella oxytoca and Escherichia coli) and Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus). Moreover, CMC-AgNPs exhibited antifungal activity against filamentous fungi such as Aspergillus fumigatus, A. niger, and A. terreus. Concerning the HepG2 hepatocellular cancer cell line, the lowest IC50 values (7.9 ± 0.41 µg/mL) were recorded for CMC-AgNPs, suggesting a strong cytotoxic effect on liver cancer cells. As a result, our findings suggest that the antitumor effect of these CMC-Ag nanoparticles is due to the induction of apoptosis and necrosis in hepatic cancer cells via increased caspase-8 and -9 activities and diminished levels of VEGFR-2. In conclusion, CMC-AgNPs exhibited antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer activities, which can be used in the pharmaceutical and medical fields.

In vivo study of beta-glucan-based biogenic synthesis of silver nanocomposite using Schizophyllum commune for wound dressings in a rat burn model

Bacterial infection is a significant barrier to the natural wound healing process. Silver nanoparticles have antibacterial activity through the destruction of DNA and bacterial membranes. In the present study, a green method was introduced to synthesize silver nanoparticles produced by the Schizophyllum commune. The antibacterial mat loaded with 0.5, 1, and 3% (w/w) of bioactive silver nanoparticles were produced in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and schizophyllan (SPG) solution (20:80) with electrospun (PVA/SPG). Then the physicochemical properties of silver nanoparticles and the mats PVA/SPG containing silver nanoparticles were investigated. An animal model also examined antimicrobial activity, cytotoxicity, adhesion, and grade II burn ulcers. The results showed that spherical silver nanoparticles with a diameter of about 40 nm were produced and completely scattered on the nanofibers according to TEM images. A non-covalent interaction was revealed between SPG and AgNPs; the nanofibers were hydrophilic. Nanofibers containing silver nanoparticles had intense antimicrobial activity against E. coli and S. aureus. This inhibition increases with increasing concentration. The cytotoxicity and adhesion results showed that the PVA/SPG-AgNPs 1% sample had the best effect on fibroblast cells. The 1% sample was tested for the animal model, and after 14 days, it had a practical effect on the control. At 14 days post-treatment, a skinny epithelial layer was formed and covered the wound area, and these nanofibers were suitable for wound dressing. Consequently, PVA/SPG-AgNPs nanofibers could be a good option to cover burn wounds by speeding up the wound healing process and treatment costs.

Bio Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles using Lantana camara Seed Extract and its Antibacterial Potential

In this research, a Lantana camara seed extract was employed for easily and sustainably synthesis of silver nanocomposites. Aqueous silver ions reduced when exposed to seed extract, which led to the biogenesis of silver nanoparticles. The reduced silver nanoparticles were examined utilizing a multiple of methods, including transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis. Absorption peak at 415 nm in the UV-vis absorption spectral analysis of the synthesized silver nanoparticles provided evidence that silver nanoparticles had formed. The FCC crystalline structure of the produced L. camara leaf extract silver nanoparticles is revealed by X-ray diffraction spectra analysis. The development of Gram-positive Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Gram-negative Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is repressed by green synthetic silver nanoparticles made from L. camara seed extract. The antibacterial activity that has been observed may have significant uses in biology, pharmacy, and economics.

Synthesis of Silver Nanocomposites for Stereolithography: In Situ Formation of Nanoparticles.

Additive Manufacturing (AM) offers remarkable advantages in relation to traditional methods used to obtain solid structures, such as the capability to obtain customized complex geometries adapted to individual requirements. The design of novel nanocomposites suitable for AM is an excellent strategy to widen the application field of these techniques. In this work, we report on the fabrication of metal/polymer nanocomposites with enhanced optical/electrical behaviour for stereolithography (SLA). In particular, we analyse the in situ generation of Ag nanoparticles (NPs) from Ag precursors (AgNO3 and AgClO4) within acrylic resins via SLA. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis confirmed the formation of Ag NPs smaller than 5 nm in all nanocomposites, providing optical activity to the materials. A high density of Ag NPs with a good distribution through the material for the larger concentration of AgClO4 precursor tested was observed, in contrast to the isolated agglomerations found when the precursor amount was reduced to 0.1%. A significant reduction in the electrical resistivity up to four orders of magnitude was found for this material compared to the unfilled resin. However, consumption of part of the photoinitiator in the formation process of the Ag NPs contributed to a reduction in the polymerization degree of the resin and, consequently, degraded the mechanical properties of the nanocomposites. Experiments with longer curing times showed that, for the higher AgClO4 concentrations tested, post-curing times of 300 min allowed an 80% degree of polymerization to be achieved. These conditions turned these materials into promising candidates to obtain solid structures with multifunctional properties.

Valorization of Brewery Wastes for the Synthesis of Silver Nanocomposites Containing Orthophosphate.

Brewery wastes from stage 5 (Wort precipitate: BW5) and stage 7 (Brewer’s spent yeast: BW7) were valorized for the synthesis of silver phosphate nanocomposites. Nanoparticles were synthesized by converting silver salt in the presence of brewery wastes at different temperatures (25, 50, and 80 °C) and times (10, 30, and 120 min). Unexpectedly, BW7 yielded Ag3PO4 nanoparticles with minor contents of AgCl and Ag metal (Agmet). Contrastingly, BW5 produced AgCl nanoparticles with minor amounts of Ag3PO4 and Agmet. Nanocomposites with different component ratios were obtained by simply varying the synthesis temperature and time. The morphology of the nanocomposites contained ball-like structures representative of Ag3PO4 and stacked layers and fused particles representing AgCl and Agmet. The capping on the nanoparticles contained organic groups from the brewery by-products, and the surface overlayer had a rich chemical composition. The organic overlayers on BW7 nanocomposites were thinner than those on BW5 nanocomposites. Notably, the nanocomposites exhibited high antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. The antibacterial activity was higher for BW7 nanocomposites due to a larger silver phosphate content in the composition and a thin organic overlayer. The growth of Agmet in the structure adversely affected the antimicrobial property of the nanocomposites.

Efficient and green synthesis of silver nanocomposite using guar gum for voltammetric determination of diphenylamine

In this study, silver nanoparticle embedded on guar gum (AgNP/GG) nanocomposite was synthesized thoroughly in greenway via a simple in situ method by silver salt reduction using the guar gum (GG) polymer matrix. The highly water-soluble polysaccharide material (GG) was served as both stabilizing and reducing agent. Its structure and morphology were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, TEM, and UV−Vis spectroscopy. EIS, CV, and DPV methods have also been employed to investigate the electrochemical performance of the AgNP/GG nanocomposite. Analytical parameters such as loading amount of catalyst, scan rate, pH value, cyclic stability, repeatability, and reproducibility were optimized. The AgNP/GG/SPCE shows a distinct electrocatalytic oxidation of diphenylamine (DPA) in a wide linear range (WLR) of 0.01−9.09 µM, a higher sensitivity of 6.879 µM cm−2, and a limit of detection (LoD) of 5.4 nM (S/N = 3). The fabricated electrode exhibits an outstanding electrocatalytic performance in terms of good reproducibility, high stability, and acceptable anti-interference ability. In addition, this work advances the feasibility to determine DPA in apple juice sample with satisfactory recovery results.

Facile in situ synthesis of silver nanocomposites based on cellulosic paper for photocatalytic applications.

In this work, various photocatalysts were synthesized with an impregnation-precipitation process to in situ decorate Ag-based nanoparticles (NPs, including Ag3PO4, AgCl, Ag2O, and Ag2CO3) on the cellulosic paper. The structure and properties of the Ag-based composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmitting electron microscopy, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra, and photocatalysis testing. The results showed that cellulosic paper is an efficient carrier which is feasible to grasp NPs due to the cellulosic nanofiber-network microstructure. Among the obtained samples, Ag2CO3 and AgCl NPs on cellulosic paper displayed high photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methyl orange under ultraviolet and visible light. However, photo lability of Ag2CO3 limits its recyclable. AgCl showed a better reutilization with the assistance of a surface plasmon resonance effect by Ag NPs that were grown in situ on the AgCl NPs, which formed Ag@AgCl nanocomposite structure. The photocatalytic activity of the AgCl/cellulosic paper decreased only slightly after three runs of photodegradation of methyl orange. The possible mechanism for photocatalysis was proposed. This work may provide a new method for the design of silver-based NPs/cellulosic paper nanocomposite photoreactors with favorable photocatalytic activities for industrial applications.

Padina gymnospora derived a linear polysaccharide “alginate” mediated synthesis of silver nanocomposite and its antibacterial activity

Sodium alginate extract of Padina gymnospora was used for the synthesis of silver (Ag) nanoparticles. UV-visible spectroscopy studies were carried out to assess the formation of Ag nanoparticles. Reductions of Ag+ ions on sodium alginate were conformed to FTIR. Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM-EDX) was used to characterize the Ag nanoparticles. SEM image divulges that silver nanoparticles were quite polydispersed, the size ranging from 54nm to 78nm. EDX spectroscopy also confirmed the presence of silver ions. AFM analysis did analyze the morphology of the nanocomposite. Biosynthesized silver nanoparticles showed the antibacterial activity against multi-drug resistance human pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. These results suggest that Ag nanoparticles can be used as effective growth inhibitors in various microorganisms, making them applicable to various medical devices and antimicrobial control systems.

One-pot synthesis of silver nanocomposites from Achyranthes aspera: An eco-friendly larvicide against Aedes aegypti L.

Objective: To formulate silver nanocomposites from Achyranthes aspera leaf extracts and evaluate its larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti. Methods: The silver nanocomposites were synthesized from Achyranthes aspera leaf extracts. The process was optimized and traced through UV-visible and photon correlation spectroscopy. The larvicidal potential of silver nanocomposites of Achyranthes aspera leaf extracts was assessed against the early fourth instars of Aedes aegypti and three non-target organisms. Furthermore, the most effective and eco-safe nanocomposite was characterized by different biophysical techniques including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Results: The formulated silver nanocomposites exhibited efficient larvicidal efficacy against Aedes aegypti. Bioassay with silver nanocomposites formulated using different AgNO 3 concentrations (3, 4, and 5 mM) revealed respective LC50 values of 37.570, 6.262 and 1.041 μg/mL; 5.819, 1.412 and 0.489 μg/mL; and 5.519, 1.302 and 0.267 μg/mL after 24, 48 and 72 h. The silver nanocomposites with 4 mM AgNO3 were selected for characterization. SEM and TEM analysis revealed spherical, poly-dispersed structure with varied diameters of 1-25 nm. The XRD analysis established the crystalline and face-centred-cubic structure of silver nanocomposites with the maximum peak at a 2θ value of 37.42°. The EDX pattern showed the presence of Ag, O and C in the nanocomposites in their order of weight%. The FT-IR displayed visibly distinct peaks in different ranges demonstrating the intricacy of silver nanocomposites. In addition, the lethal concentrations of silver nanocomposites of Achyranthes aspera leaf extracts against Aedes aegypti larvae were non-toxic to non-target organisms including Gambusia affinis, Daphnia magna and Moina macrocopa. Conclusions: Silver nanocomposites synthesized with leaf extract of Achyranthes aspera provide a cost-effective and eco-safe alternative to conventional insecticides, and can be utilized as a potent mosquito nano-larvicide.

Synthesis of magnetic silver cyclodextrin nanocomposite as catalyst for reduction of nitro aromatics and organic dyes

Nanocomposites decorated with metallic nanoparticles in their matrix are important class of heterogeneous catalyst with high catalytic activity. Functionalized polymers are low cost materials which offer excellent supports for catalysts to render stability to metallic nanoparticles. Herein we report synthesis of Silver nanocomposite using β-cyclodextrin (b-CD) maleic anhydride crosslinked polymer anchored on the surface of magnetic nanoparticles. The nanocomposite was characterized using sophisticated analytical techniques and its role as a catalyst for reduction of nitroaromatics and organic dyes was investigated. This catalytic system exhibited comparatively lower Ea value of 18 kJ mol−1 and followed pseudo first order kinetics. Simultaneous reduction of 4-Nitrophenol and Methylene Blue could be achieved in a time interval of 7 minutes. Being magnetically separable, the catalyst exhibited high recycling efficiency (up to 5 cycles) and ease of operation under mild conditions.

Green Synthesis of Silver Nanocomposites of Nigella sativa Seeds Extract for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Background:Silver nanoparticles play a significant role in bioavailability and refining the compatibility of natural drugs in the treatment of various chronic diseases including different types of cancer.Objective:Green synthesis of silver nanocomposites of Nigella sativa seeds extract to evaluate the anticancer effects against hepatocellular carcinoma using HepG2 cell lines.Methods:The AgNCs were developed by treating aqueous extract of N. sativa seeds treated with silver nitrate (1mM) solution and were used to test its efficacy against hepatocellular carcinoma using HepG2 cell lines.Results and Discussion:The Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) of prepared AgNCs showed a peak at 432 nm via UV spectroscopy. The selected N. sativa AgNCs were characterized for polydispersity, surface charge and size and the results showed 0.215±0.093 polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential 18.8±0.372 mV and size range 10-20 nm, respectively. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) also showed various peak of functional groups that are possibly involved in the reduction of silver ion and synthesized the N. sativa silver nanocomposites, respectively. N. sativa AgNCs showed 89.954% drug release while in the case of extract release, it was only 33.821% in 24 hrs. Further, in vitro studies of N. sativa AgNCs against hepatocellular carcinoma showed good cytotoxic effect p<0.05 with 7.16 µg/ml IC50 value.Conclusion:Thus, the present results revealed that green synthesis of N. sativa AgNCs can be an alternative tool for clinical application in cancer therapy; however, there is a need to find the mechanism and role of AgNCs inside the individual.

Synthesis and Characterization of Silver-Containing Nanocomposites Based on 1-Vinyl-1,2,4-triazole and Acrylonitrile Copolymer

Insoluble silver-containing nanocomposites based on 1-vinyl-1,2,4-triazole and acrylonitrile copolymer was synthesized and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, atomic absorption, X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric data analysis. The silver content of the nanocomposites varied from 8.0 to 23.5% (the silver content depends on the ratio of the copolymer-silver salt). Synthesis of silver nanocomposites was carried out by thermal treatment of a polymer complex of copolymer-silver salt without the use of an additional reducing agent. X-ray diffraction was used to control the formation of silver nanoparticles at different temperatures (210°С, 220°С, and 250°С). Synthesis of nanocomposites shows a developed porous structure with a channel diameter in most cases of 1-4 microns. The EPR monitoring of the nanoparticle germination and growth reveals that the generation of the nanocomposites proceeds via a stage of complex formation between the polymeric matrix and silver ions. The synthesized nanocomposites possess paramagnetic properties and show a narrow EPR symmetric signal with the concentration of unpaired electrons of 1020 spin/g, a g-factor 2.0050, and signal width 5-6 Gs. Thermal stability of silver-containing nanocomposites is up to 270-320°C.

Hydrogen Peroxide Sensing Activity of Macaranga Denticulata Stabilized Multifunctional Silver Nanocomposite

We demonstrate a simple, straight forward, clean-green, single pot approach for the synthesis of silver nanocomposite by Macaranga denticulate plant extract. The biosynthesis ofnanocompositehas been proposed as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to chemical and physical methods. Plant-mediated synthesis ofnanoparticlesis a green chemistry approach that connects the nanotechnology with plants. Silver nanocomposite have been found to have interesting properties in the field of medicine, particularly against fungal and viral infections, inflammation, angiogenesis, platelet aggregation and cancer cells. The formation of silver nanocomposite was characterized by Ultra-Violet Visible Spectroscopy and high resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy. The Selected Area Electron Diffraction pattern showed clear and uniform lattice fringes implying that the synthesized nanoparticles are highly crystalline and correspond to face centered cubic structure. Stability of the nanoparticles was measured by zeta potential measurement. The surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy of silver nanoparticles was observed at 420-430 nm. Atomic Force Microscopy was used to characterize surface morphology of the synthesized silver nanoparticles. X-ray Diffraction Technique was utilized to characterize the particle size and crystalline nature of the particle. The most intense peak (plane 111) was analyzed to determine the particle size of the nanoparticles, which was found to be 30 nm. Functional groups present on the surface of biosynthesized silver nanomaterial were analyzed by Infra-Red Spectroscopy. The characterized Silver nanoparticles were utilized as chemical sensor to detect the decomposition of H2O2

A facile single-step synthesis of polyvinylpyrrolidone−silver nanocomposites using a conventional spray dryer

We have developed a facile single-step synthesis of silver nanocomposite using a conventional spray dryer. We investigated the synthetic conditions by controlling the concentrations of the chemical reactants. Further, we confirmed the effect of the molecular weight of polyvinylpyrrolidones, and revealed that the molecular weight significantly affected the properties of the resultant silver nanocomposites. The long-term stability of the silver nanocomposites was tested, and little change was observed, even after storage for three months. Most of all, the simple commercial implementation, in combination with large-scale synthesis, possesses a variety of advantages, compared to conventional complicated and costly dry-process synthesis methods. Thus, our method presents opportunities for further investigation, for both lab-scale studies and large-scale industrial applications.

Prolonged antibacterial effect of silver nanocomposites with different structures

This study describes the synthesis of silver nanocomposites (Ag NCs), with different structures, decorated with silica nanoparticles (SiO2 NPs) and their antibacterial activity was evaluated. The core–shell microspheres were fabricated by the deposition of polydopamine (PDA) formed by the spontaneous oxidative polymerization of dopamine. Simultaneously, Ag+ ions were reduced to nanosilver and subsequently deposited on the surface of the SiO2/PDA spheres to form SiO2/PDA/Ag NPs. Moreover, nanosilver encapsulated in mesoporous SiO2 NPs (Ag-MSN) were investigated for bactericidal activity to facilitate comparisons. Bacterial growth curves and reactive oxygen species (ROS) assays indicated that both Ag-MSN and SiO2/PDA/Ag NPs exhibited antimicrobial activity; however, at different stages, due to their distinct structures. This study revealed that the production of ROS and damage to the membrane were the two major mechanisms of the bactericidal activity of Ag NCs. The antibacterial mechanisms for each NC are discussed and supported by observations from transmission electron microscopy.

Synthesis of Silver Nanocomposite with Poly(vinylpyrollidone) and Poly(4-vinylpyridine) for Antimicrobial Activity

Dispersing silver nanoparticles homogeneously into a polymer matrix by ex situ methods is difficult because of the easy agglomeration of nanoparticles. Therefore, convenient and effective ways of preparing Ag nanoparticles in polymer materials are still in strong demand. Vacuum deposited thin discontinuous silver films on the composite of Poly (vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) and poly (4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) is an in situ and eco friendly method. Films on softened PVP give rise to a very high room temperature resistance approaching that of the substrate resistance indicating non uniform formation of silver clusters. On the other hand, films on softened P4VP gives rise to a room temperature resistance in the range of a few tens to a few hundred MW/€, which is desirable for device applications due adequate size and uniform dispersal of silver clusters in P4VP. Silver films on PVP/P4VP blend show room temperature resistances in the desirable range indicating uniform subsurface formation of silver films on PVP/P4VP. The Electrical, optical and plasmonic response of Ag NP onto thin layers of PVP/P4VP shows encapsulation of nanoparticles. Silver nanocomposite film exhibits characteristic UV absorbance spectrum at a wavelength of 430 nm, due to the surface plasmon resonance of nanosized silver. Silver ions being bioactive killed bacteria on infected wounds on living tissue and led physician to use wound dressing containing silver sulfadiazine and Ag NP to treat external infections. Silver lining food helps in treating various remedies and ailments.

Cornet‐Like Phosphotriazine/Diamine Polymers as Reductant and Matrix for the Synthesis of Silver Nanocomposites with Antimicrobial Activity

AbstractThe synthesis of silver nanoparticles attached on the surface of a hollow cornet‐like polymer matrix which served as a reductant and host matrix is described. This hybrid organic/inorganic macromolecular matrix is exhibiting anion‐exchange properties, porous structure and hollow morphologies, and absorptions in the visible light region. Due to the anion‐exchange property and the 3D orientation of the macromolecular chains the material is defining a new functional organic/inorganic hybrid. For the synthesis of nanoparticles, no other reducing agents were used and silver nanoparticles with a mean diameter of less than 20 nm were attached on the surface of the polymer, thus inheriting the composite with high antibacterial activity tested in bacterial strains and yeasts.magnified image
