The global hospitality industry operates at the confluence of powerful globalizing forces, including deep economic integration, rapid digitalization, and intensifying sustainability mandates. These macro-level structural forces have fundamentally reshaped the labor market, creating an urgent demand for a new generation of “glocal” leaders capable of translating transnational standards into local socio-economic realities. However, traditional educational models do not equip them to develop these boundary-spanning, integrative competencies. This paper evaluates the effectiveness of a pedagogical innovation, an AI-Driven Sustainable Entrepreneurship (AISE) curriculum specifically designed to cultivate these capabilities through a facilitator-led, experiential learning model. The study employed a longitudinal, explanatory sequential mixed-methods research design to evaluate the impact of the curriculum. The initial phase involved a reflexive thematic analysis of in-depth interviews with program participants, which revealed critical themes related to transformative learning, including systems thinking, human-centric technology deployment, and the development of personal agency. The second phase utilized Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) on pre- and post-intervention data from 235 students to test a quantitative model of the pedagogical effects. The findings demonstrate a strong association between participation in the AISE curriculum, with its unique emphasis on instructor facilitation and simulated application, and a statistically significant positive increase in students’ Sustainability Mindset, AI Literacy, and, ultimately, their Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy. The results indicate that a sustainability-oriented worldview and a deep understanding of artificial intelligence serve as crucial mediating variables in the development of entrepreneurial confidence. This research offers a robust, empirically validated potential model for higher education, providing an initial blueprint for cultivating leaders who can navigate the “glocal” (global–local) challenges of the contemporary world. It further discusses the critical role of the instructor and the resource implications for scaling such an intensive model, steering the hospitality sector toward a more resilient, responsible, and regenerative future

The study examines the impact of recurring market tragedies, fire outbreaks, and building collapses on the sustainability of small businesses in Lagos, Nigeria. The study employs a qualitative research methodology grounded in Contingency Theory. Secondary data sources, including scholarly literature, media reports, and government documents, are analysed comprehensively. The study illustrates the complex challenges faced by small enterprises operating within global urban ecosystems through a series of case studies drawn from local and international media coverage. It was found that the high frequency and widespread impact of fire incidents and related disasters significantly disrupt business continuity, resulting in substantial financial losses, which signals a pattern of repeated shocks to market-dependent livelihoods and long-term economic instability for small-scale entrepreneurs. Evaluating these critical issues, this research contributes to the discourse on urban-market challenges and small business sustainability in developing economies, thereby deepening economic vulnerability and providing social safety nets for affected traders. The analysis uncovers deficiencies in urban planning, lax enforcement of building regulations, and inadequate emergency response mechanisms as critical factors contributing to these market tragedies. Severe environmental consequences, including air and water pollution, soil contamination, and the release of toxic substances, are identified. These consequences increase health risks and ecological damage in affected areas. The study recommends enhancing infrastructure resilience, enforcing stricter building codes, and improving disaster preparedness, particularly for the focus city of Lagos, Nigeria.

The urgency of this community service partnership is that strengthening MSME products and management is a strategic step toward increasing competitiveness, business sustainability, and the preservation of Indonesia's cultural heritage. In an increasingly competitive market, many traditional spice-based food and beverage MSMEs face challenges such as limited product variety due to limited innovation, low selling prices, limited public knowledge and farmer empowerment, and financial accounting and marketing issues. The problems faced by Rayszava (Mijun) spice-processed food and beverage MSME tenants include insufficient production quantities, a lack of understanding of financial accounting, and marketing strategies that make it difficult to compete in both local and global markets. The solutions to overcome these problems include applying appropriate technology to increase quantity and maintain product quality, as well as offering product variety in spice mixture levels. This supports achieving the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), namely “Good Health and Well-being” and “Decent Work and Economic Growth”. The implementation methods applied include 1) Socialization, 2) Training, 3) Assistance, 4) Evaluation, and 5) Sustainability. The output targets achieved include the use of crystallization machines to optimize production and improve time and energy efficiency.

Understanding user experiences with recommender systems (RS) on audiovisual platforms is critical for user-centric design and long-term service sustainability. However, existing research often overlooks how users articulate their experiences, particularly within specific platform contexts. This research examines 38,545 Weibo posts to identify patterns in users’ expressed experiences with the RS of Bilibili (YouTube’s Chinese counterpart). Combining natural language processing and thematic analysis, we examine sentiment trends, key concerns, and underlying patterns. While RS are generally assumed to match user preferences, we found persistently expressed user frustrations with the lack of truly relevant and favored recommendations—those that align with long-term interests, highlight quality, consider context and platform-specific preferences, and respect user feedback. These frustrations are related to the platform’s business considerations and user-platform power asymmetries. The findings underscore the platform-specific nature of user experience and contribute to discussions on adaptive RS that satisfy user needs and support sustainable business models.

Marine bacteria are present almost everywhere in the ocean environment and are essential to many biogeochemical processes. The perspectives of ecologists and evolutionary biologists on the significance of microbes in ecosystem function are shifting as a result of exploring the marine microbiomes. This is especially true in ocean habitats, where microbes comprise the bulk of the biomass and are responsible for the majority of the planet's key biogeochemical cycles, including those that influence the global climate. Emerging research suggests that many ecosystem services provided by coastal marine environments depend on intricate interactions between groups of microbes and the environment or their hosts. The structure, variety, and functional capability of marine microbial populations have been revealed on a global scale thanks to recent developments in molecular ecology techniques. Over-recent-decades, industrialization and urbanization have led to widespread contamination of oceans. These contaminants accumulate in seawater and sediments, particularly in coastal areas, posing risks to marine ecosystems and human health. Marine microorganisms possess diverse catalytic abilities and extreme environmental tolerance, making them suitable for bioremediation of toxins. Effective-degradation of pollutants often depends on syntrophic-interactions within microbial communities, highlighting the importance of understanding their collaboration and communication for marine resource management. Here, we assess the current level of knowledge about marine microbiome research and highlight key issues within this developing field of study. The review aims to enhance understanding of marine microbiome's roles and potential uses in biogeochemical analysis, biotechnology, and environmental remediation, which could support sustainable and circular business models for future generations.

The rapid growth of digital finance has significantly transformed the financial landscape, especially in emerging economies such as India where Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in economic development, employment generation, and industrial expansion. This study examines the impact of digital finance on sustainable industry, innovation, and infrastructure development in the MSME sector, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 which emphasizes resilient infrastructure, sustainable industrialization, and innovation. Digital financial services such as mobile banking, digital payment systems, fintech-based lending platforms, online credit evaluation, and blockchain-enabled transactions have improved financial accessibility and operational efficiency for MSMEs. These technologies help reduce transaction costs, enhance transparency, and provide quicker access to credit, thereby supporting business sustainability and growth. The study develops an empirical framework to analyze how digital finance adoption influences sustainable development outcomes among MSMEs. A quantitative research design is adopted, where primary data collected from MSME owners and managers is analyzed using statistical techniques, particularly regression analysis, to examine the relationship between digital finance adoption and MSME performance indicators. The independent variable of digital finance adoption is assessed against dependent variables such as sustainable industrial growth, innovation capability, and infrastructure development. The findings are expected to reveal a positive relationship between digital finance usage and MSME performance, including increased productivity, improved access to green technologies, enhanced digital infrastructure, and stronger innovation capabilities. The study contributes to existing literature by integrating digital finance and sustainability perspectives within the MSME sector. It also offers policy implications for governments, financial institutions, and fintech companies to strengthen digital financial ecosystems and promote sustainable industrial development.

Sustainable entrepreneurship—the pursuit of business opportunities that jointly create economic, social, and environmental value—offers a promising pathway to address societal challenges. Bridging sustainable entrepreneurship and women’s entrepreneurship literature, this study examines how diverse profiles of women entrepreneurs align environmental and social goals with the aspiration of venture growth, advancing firm objectives beyond purely financial performance. Using a sample of approximately 20,000 women entrepreneurs from 63 countries and applying hierarchical linear regression analysis, our results show that rural women entrepreneurs prioritize social and environmental concerns more than their urban counterparts, with younger rural women entrepreneurs showing a stronger focus on social and environmental impact. Women entrepreneurs can balance social, environmental, and economic Triple Bottom Line goals, but those in rural areas face greater obstacles, particularly those focusing on innovation efforts. These findings offer important implications for policymakers seeking to promote inclusive and sustainable entrepreneurial environments, revealing the complex interplay between gender, age, and rurality and how these factors can shape sustainable impact and firm growth.

Abstract The paradox of environmental sustainability is often framed as a trade-off between profit and planet. Mainstream sustainability approaches remain constrained by anthropocentric and reductionist assumptions that treat economy and ecology as separable domains. Guided by Kaupapa Māori (Māori approach) principles, this research explores an alternative relational approach grounded in te ao Māori (Māori world view). Drawing on Kōrero (Māori narrative approach) with 11 participants, analysed through reflexive thematic analysis, the paper develops the Whakapapa–Mauri–Utu Regenerative Cycle. In this framework, Whakapapa (genealogy) establishes non-negotiable governance responsibilities, Mauri (life force) serves as an evaluative indicator of ecosystem health, and Utu (reciprocity) reorients economic activity toward restoration and collective wellbeing. This paper contributes to paradox scholarship by demonstrating that sustainability tensions are reframed when organisations are understood as genealogically embedded within spiritual and ecological systems. Rather than being managed through trade-offs between separable objectives, sustainability becomes a relational obligation enacted through genealogical integrity.

Introduction The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into pricing systems is reshaping global markets, yet its implications for societal sustainability and inclusive growth in emerging economies remain largely overlooked. This study examines how AI-driven dynamic pricing influences customer satisfaction within Jordan’s electric vehicle (EV) sector—a context marked by evolving trust in technology and distinct socio-cultural norms. Methods A survey of 454 EV users was conducted, and the data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The model tested direct, mediating, and moderating effects among AI-supported dynamic pricing, purchasing decision quality, customer satisfaction, and trust in AI. Results The analysis reveals that algorithmic pricing does not directly enhance customer satisfaction. Instead, its effect is fully mediated by the consumer’s perceived decision confidence. Furthermore, trust in AI negatively moderates the relationship between dynamic pricing and decision quality, suggesting that heightened trust may paradoxically reduce proactive price evaluation in this context. Discussion These findings challenge Western-centric narratives and underscore the nuanced, context-dependent role of technology in sustainable consumption. The study highlights that in emerging markets, satisfaction is derived less from price perception and more from the psychological confidence of making an informed choice. For marketers and policymakers, this underscores the need for transparent, confidence-building communication strategies that align algorithmic pricing with broader goals of social inclusion and psychological well-being—key pillars of sustainable business performance in evolving economies. The research offers a rich context-driven model that positions decision confidence as the critical psychological route between algorithmic pricing and satisfaction.

This study examines the influence of legal compliance on the financial performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia, with a particular focus on financial stability, profitability, and competitiveness. Employing a descriptive-analytical design with a conceptual approach, this research synthesizes legal and financial theories through an extensive review of secondary data, including academic literature, regulatory frameworks, and governance studies. Legal compliance is operationalized across four key dimensions: business licensing, taxation, employment, and consumer protection. The findings indicate that legal compliance plays a strategic role in enhancing financial stability by reducing regulatory risks, minimizing unexpected costs, and improving cash flow management. Furthermore, compliance contributes to profitability through cost efficiency and improved access to financing with more competitive capital costs. In terms of competitiveness, legally compliant MSMEs demonstrate stronger reputational capital, greater market access, and higher adaptability within digital and global markets. The study also highlights that compliance should not be perceived merely as a regulatory obligation but as a financial strategy that strengthens governance quality and long-term business sustainability. However, the effectiveness of compliance is contingent upon regulatory simplification and MSME capacity, including legal literacy and administrative readiness. This study contributes to the integration of business law and financial performance perspectives in the MSME context and offers policy-relevant insights for strengthening MSME resilience.
