  • International journal of older people nursing
  • Kritika Samsi + 5 more

To explore accounts of the interactions between ancillary workers and care home residents during COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. Qualitative interview study, following appropriate ethical approvals and procedures. Participants were recruited from care homes in England and through known networks. Interviews were conducted online or face-to-face when pandemic-related contact restrictions were lifted, according to participants' convenience and comfort. Sixty-three participants were interviewed: 38 ancillary workers (9 cleaners, 14 catering staff, 12 housekeeping staff and 3 ancillary staff supervisors), 8 care home managers, 5 human resource managers, 5 care home residents and 7 family members. The meaningful nature of interactions between ancillary staff and care home residents was evident in participant interviews, acknowledged by family relatives, residents, care home managers and ancillary workers. Interactions with ancillary workers contributed to care practices, and many relationships were enhanced during COVID-19. Participants felt these interactions contributed to the 'jigsaw' of the care home environment, and often positively impacted on staff well-being. Management support to enable these interactions was important and could make relationship-based care more meaningful. Interactions between ancillary workers and care home residents are important, can contribute to staff well-being and resident quality of life by fostering relationship-based care and promote the sharing of health and care information. Manager and supervisor recognition of this workforces 2019 contribution to relationship-based care and to improve overall care home environments is needed, as well as staff development opportunities to enhance these relationships too.

Enhancing Timeliness and Compliance in Vendor Payment Processes: An Internship-Based Comparative Analysis of Digital Invoice Verification Challenges in Indonesia and Singapore
  • Apr 30, 2026
  • Jurnal Good Governance
  • Yerischa Arishandi Putri + 3 more

This study examines the implementation of digital invoice verification and its implications for payment timeliness and administrative compliance in a state-owned enterprise. Although digital financial systems are widely promoted to improve efficiency and accountability, empirical evidence on their operation in daily administrative practice remains limited. This study addresses this gap by analyzing the Vendor Invoice Portal (VIP) at PT PLN UP3 (Customer Service Unit) Serpong and exploring how administrative behavior and process governance influence verification outcomes. The study employs a qualitative case study design based on internship-based organizational research, utilizing field observations, document reviews, and limited interviews with supervisory staff. Comparative insights from Singapore's digital invoice framework are incorporated through secondary data and policy documents. The findings indicate that the VIP system has strengthened transparency, traceability, and formal accountability in the vendor payment process through standardized digital procedures. However, payment timeliness remains constrained by workload concentration near deadlines, document compliance issues, and coordination challenges among administrative actors. These constraints arise not from system deficiencies but from the interaction between the digital system and existing organizational practices. The study concludes that digital invoice verification should be understood as a governance process, not simply a technical solution, emphasizing the need for adequate administrative capacity, coordinated workflows, and supportive organizational practices to achieve effective digital financial governance.

Emotional Intelligence and Self-Management as Predictors of Job Performance among Hotel Employees in Bangkok, Thailand
  • Mar 22, 2026
  • Interdisciplinary Academic and Research Journal
  • Juan Rodrigo B Del Villar + 5 more

Background and Aims: The global hospitality industry, particularly the hotel sector, is a major driver of economic growth, employment generation, and tourism development. Given its service-intensive and high-pressure, customer-facing work environments, the hotel sector emphasizes emotional and behavioral competencies such as emotional intelligence and self-management, which are critical for sustaining employee performance. This study investigates the influence of emotional intelligence and self-management on job performance among hotel employees in Bangkok, Thailand. Methodology: This study employed a cross-sectional, correlational, non-experimental quantitative design. Data were gathered from 200 employees using stratified random sampling. The instruments underwent reliability testing through a pilot study (n = 30), which confirmed high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α > .85). Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, t-tests, ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression were employed to analyze the data. Results: Findings revealed significant and positive relationships between emotional intelligence (r = .612, p < .001), self-management (r = .584, p < .001), and job performance. Multiple regression analysis confirmed that emotional intelligence (β = .52, p < .001) and self-management (β = .34, p < .001) significantly predicted job performance, accounting for 53% of the variance (R² = .53). Emotional intelligence emerged as the stronger predictor. Significant differences in emotional intelligence and self-management were found across age groups, years of experience, and job roles, while no significant differences were observed by gender or educational attainment. Supervisory staff rated their job performance significantly higher than frontline staff (p = .028), likely due to increased autonomy and responsibility, supporting job design theories that link these factors with enhanced performance outcomes. Conclusion: These results underscore the vital role of emotional and behavioral competencies in hospitality, particularly for employees in guest-facing roles. The study recommends institutionalizing emotional intelligence and self-management training into recruitment, onboarding, and leadership development programs to enhance employee effectiveness, service quality, and organizational performance in the hotel industry. Since emotional intelligence emerged as the stronger predictor of job performance, it should be prioritized in talent development initiatives. Additionally, the findings contribute to the competency-based view of human resources, highlighting specific employee skills as strategic assets in driving competitive advantage.

  • Evan M Lowder + 4 more

This study examined the scope and functioning of peer recovery services across different roles and peer recovery programs. Specific aims included (a) considering the defining role of peer recovery specialists, (b) understanding how peer specialists achieve goals, (c) determining short- and long-term outcomes resulting from peer recovery services, and (d) identifying barriers and facilitators to service provision. A multimethod survey distributed via Qualtrics was used to collect responses from 108 peer recovery specialists, supervisory staff, and individuals receiving services across 23 programs. Qualitative responses were coded using an inductive coding strategy, whereas quantitative questions were analyzed using descriptive statistics and between-role comparisons. Participants endorsed lived experience and support as the primary roles of the peer recovery specialist, which facilitated connection to care and higher quality relationships. Several short-term outcomes were consistently endorsed across roles, including engagement in recovery services, social support, and crisis stabilization. Long-term outcomes were more variable. Peer specialists expressed challenges with maintaining boundaries with individuals given their personal experience and professional identities. Findings point to a shared understanding of the role of the peer recovery specialist and consistency in short-term outcomes across programs, both of which support the feasibility of establishing shared implementation (process) and outcome measures to guide evaluation efforts of peer recovery programs. We provide a short form, the Peer Recovery Services Checklist, to facilitate this goal. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2026 APA, all rights reserved).

This study aims to examine the relationships among happiness at work, psychological safety, and job satisfaction among employees in educational settings. Exploring the core dimensions and network structure of these constructs provides deeper insight into how they interact and how organizational interventions may be improved. Network analysis was used to investigate the associations among happiness at work, psychological safety, and job satisfaction. The Happiness at Work Scale, the Psychological Safety Scale, and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire were administered to a convenience sample of 372 employees in the educational sector in the Sultanate of Oman (mostly teachers, with a smaller number of supervisory staff). The network analysis showed that specific items from the happiness at work scale, particularly those reflecting enjoyment of work and environmental quality, were embedded within the network and played an important role in shaping employees' job satisfaction. The results also revealed that the extrinsic job satisfaction dimension occupied a central position in the network, functioning as a primary link between psychological safety and job satisfaction. The comparison between male and female employees indicated no meaningful gender differences in network structure or overall connectivity. These findings carry important implications for policy and practice in Oman, highlighting the value of strengthening managerial fairness, organizational clarity, and recognition practices to enhance employee happiness at work.

"The Process Is Built for Psychological Safety": Behavioral Health Providers' Experiences Using a Systems-based Information Integration Tool for Critical Incident Review.
  • Dec 24, 2025
  • Journal of patient safety
  • Margaret L Mcgladrey + 6 more

Learning from critical incidents is a major component of efforts to improve patient safety that increasingly center on system-level factors rather than individual errors to both address root causes of critical incidents and promote psychological safety in health care and social service agency cultures. However, there are limited studies of professionals' experiences with system-level critical incident review processes and how these experiences influence practice in behavioral health settings. This mixed-methods study explores how practitioners at the largest behavioral health agency in California perceived the use of the Safe Systems Improvement Tool to learn from critical incidents, including deaths by suicide, overdoses, and near misses. Survey and interview data from behavioral health practitioners indicated that for critical incident reviews, empathetic facilitation, deliberate preparation, and expectation-setting before meetings support psychological safety and systems change. Participants recommended including front-line as well as clinical and supervisory staff in critical incident reviews and developing clear timelines for implementing follow-up recommendations. The application of critical incident reviews in behavior health agencies can be effective not only in identifying root causes and quality improvement opportunities through the aggregation of data across events, but also in fostering cultures of psychological safety to reduce individual blame and defensiveness while promoting transparent system-wide assessment and transformation.

  • Nov 2, 2025
  • Child and Adolescent Social Work Journal
  • Lindsey M Weiler + 7 more

Abstract Mentors serve as critical sources of support for young people and have a unique vantage point for observing the child’s life. Their perspective is also crucial for identifying the challenges mentors may encounter, which helps guide training and supervision. Using archival data, the current study sought to index real-time concerns that mentors were noticing with their youth mentees (ages 11–18) during a site-based mentoring program. This program developed a TIME (Tailored Intervention In-the-Moment for Everyone) Card system in which mentors share any concerns they are observing on index cards. The TIME Cards are visible to youth and integrated into the milieu of the program. Cards are submitted to supervisory staff who review and respond accordingly (e.g., offer support, conduct an assessment, provide a referral). Data included 578 excerpts that were independently coded by a team of researchers using content analysis. Mentors submitted an average of 16.06 concerns per program night. Concerns were categorized into four themes: (1) internalizing and externalizing problems (23.48%), (2) adverse childhood experiences and other adversities (28.38%), (3) adolescent development (35.51%), and (4) program-related behaviors or concerns (12.63%). Youth age was negatively associated with program-related concerns and positively associated with violence/aggression, microaggressions/racism, and gaming problems. This study provides insights into common challenges faced by youth and introduces the TIME Card system as a responsive and dynamic tool for supporting mentors and youth in site-based programs. Future research should examine whether this approach enhances mentoring processes and outcomes.

  • Aug 12, 2025
  • Emerging Science Journal
  • Mai Charoentham + 3 more

This research analyzed creative problem-solving (CPS) components and examined the perceptions of Thai educational personnel regarding their CPS abilities. The sample consisted of 534 primary school teachers and educational supervisors during the 2024 academic year, selected through multistage random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire assessing CPS skills, which were then analyzed using means (M), standard deviations (SD), and second-order confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The research revealed that the second-order CFA model for CPS among educational personnel (teachers and supervisors) consists of five key components. Ranked from highest to lowest, these were educators' perceptions of their CPS abilities to solve problems (SOL) (M = 4.23, SD = 0.54), ability to identify problems (IDE) (M = 4.17, SD = 0.57), ability to create knowledge (CRE) (M = 4.17, SD = 0.59), ability to discover concepts (INS) (M = 4.12, SD = 0.58), and ability to discover methods to solve problems (MET) (M = 4.11, SD = 0.58). The model strongly aligned with empirical data, indicating that all three models exhibited positive component weights (β) that were statistically significant at the .01 level. This finding underscores the strength of the CPS framework for educational personnel. These findings provide compelling evidence for the effectiveness of the proposed model in assessing and enhancing CPS skills among educational professionals, contributing valuable insights to both practice and future research in this field. This study fills a gap in the literature by providing empirical evidence on the CPS capabilities of educational personnel.

Comparative study of dependency assessment scales, KATZ and SMAF, on the care of elderly people in care institutions
  • Jun 30, 2025
  • World Journal of Advanced Research and Reviews
  • Aimé Bulaya Botchaka + 2 more

Background and aims: According to KCE (Federal Centre of Expertise for Healthcare) report 73B, SMAF (Functional Autonomy Measurement System of the Elderly), a tool for functional dependence of the elderly, little known in Belgium, offers better support from supervisory staff in care institutions. The study aims to assess the dependency of the elderly by the workload of the supervisory staff using the SMAF scale; and to demonstrate the impact of the use of the SMAF scale in Belgium for better financing of residential establishments for the elderly by supervisory staff. Methods: We experimentally verified this statement in a nursing home and nursing home (n=50) by making comparative evaluations between the Katz and SMAF tools; the first being the normative reference for financing in management personnel in Belgium. Results: At the end of our experiments, we arrived at a first result according to which SMAF, with more items, makes a better assessment of the dependency of the elderly compared to Katz. In addition to assessing activities of daily living (ADL), SMAF also assesses activities of domestic tasks (ADT). The items assessing cognitive abilities are more extensive than the Katz scale. In view of the results obtained, we reached a second result according to which the use of the SMAF scale in Belgium could be a good calculation basis for financing of paraprofessional care staff. On the other hand, with regard to other care professionals (Nurses and Kiné-Ergo-Logo), no clear trend was observed. Conclusions: we can say that SMAF is a good tool for assessing the dependency of the elderly. It can also be used as a basis for funding orderlies. As for other paramedical staff, we recommend working on a large sample.

Metabolic syndrome risk factors among mill workers exposed to noise and respirable dust
  • Mar 26, 2025
  • Scientific Reports
  • Marzieh Belji Kangarlou + 2 more

This 15-year prospective cohort study aimed to examine the impact of occupational exposure to noise and respirable flour dust on the incidence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components among 379 flour mill workers in Iran. The cohort was divided into an exposed group (n = 232), comprising workers with chronic exposure to noise and dust, and a non-exposed group (n = 147), including administrative and supervisory staff with minimal exposure. Annual measurements of noise and dust followed NIOSH guidelines, and cumulative exposures were calculated over time. MetS and its components were assessed based on ATP III criteria using clinical and biochemical markers such as fasting blood sugar (FBS), triglycerides (TG), HDL cholesterol, and blood pressure. The results revealed that prolonged exposure to flour dust was associated with borderline increases in the risk of hypertension and hypertriglyceridemia, while noise exposure did not show significant associations with MetS or its components. Significant risk factors for MetS components included body mass index (BMI), age, and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Age was a strong predictor of hyperglycemia (HR = 1.08, 95% CI: 1.02–1.14, p = 0.007), and baseline TG levels were significantly associated with hypertriglyceridemia (HR = 1.003, 95% CI:1.001–1.004, p = 0.001). Stratified analyses highlighted increased risks of MetS components among workers with extended working hours and rotational shifts. These findings emphasize the need for workplace interventions to reduce cumulative exposure risks. Abstract: The demand for customer-focused manufacturing calls for more user-friendly tools to make workflow as smooth as possible. One of the lean tool options integrated into the automobile industry to tackle problems associated with product quality, brand appeal, and waste elimination at every stage of production processes is the Value Stream Mapping (VSM). Though manufacturers adopted several lean tools to minimise cost and reduce waste, this study focused on the roles of Value Stream Mapping (VSM) on the operational efficiency of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company of Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was used to structure and organise this study. The convenience sampling technique was used to select 110 management and supervisory staff from the 1,800 employees of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company of Nigeria. Data gathered were analyzed using the Ordinal Logistic Regression (OLR) model in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 21. The null hypothesis that VSM as a Continuous Improvement (CI) tool does not enhance the firm's Operational Efficiency (OE) was rejected at a LOGCI of 872.31 and p-value of .001. The hypothesis, that waste elimination through VSM does not influence operational efficiency, was also dismissed. The findings revealed that VSM performance is demonstrated when teamwork in an assembling procedure, interacts with the production system and watches how production evolves from a starting point (inputs) to an end item (output). It was concluded that to achieve operational efficiency, businesses must minimise waste of processes, raw materials, time and space. VSM helped the managers to visualise more than just the single-process level, enabling the managers to view job flow across all processes. We recommended VSM to the manufacturing and the service industry for the implementation of plans and actions.

Inmates in prison environments are vulnerable to mental health problems and stress. Art therapy is a therapeutic method that uses art as a means to help individuals express and understand their emotions and thoughts. Based on previous literature reviews, art therapy was proven to reduce depressive symptoms in five participants. This service program aims to help inmates deal with stress and find out how art therapy can be an approach that can overcome stress in inmates and find out other benefits obtained from applying this method in a correctional environment. The program is implemented using psychotherapy methods with art therapy techniques. This activity involves counseling students, supervisory staff and residents of the class IIA correctional institution in Serang City in implementing the art therapy program. The art therapy activity was attended by 11 inmates with different types of cases and who had symptoms of stress at a moderate to severe level. As a result of this activity, students observed and conducted interviews and it was seen that the inmates who were previously gloomy and quiet were now able to smile and be open to telling stories. After holding the art therapy program, students saw changes in the behavior and facial expressions of the inmates. Art therapy has proven to be an effective method in dealing with stress in class IIA inmates in the city of Serang. Through the use of painting, therapy participants can channel their emotions and express feelings that are difficult for them to express verbally
