ABSTRACTNickel aluminides based on Ni3Al were continuously cast into 12.4 mm diameter wire in an industrial production machine. Cyclic corrosion tests were carried out on this material in oxidizing, carburizing, sulfidizing and chloridizing atmospheres at temperatures between 750°C and 1100 °C in order to study the time and temperature dependence of high temperature corrosion. The results show, that Ni3Al has a very good oxidation resistance up to 1000 °C. The sulfidation resistance is poor, while resistance against carburization and chlorination is significantly better than that of the commercial alloy 800H andalloy 617.
