The problems of learning english vocabulary in harapan senior high school

The aim of this study is to find out the problems in learning English Vocabulary especially in the eleventh-grade students of Harapan Senior High School Denpasar. In this study, the writer had 70 students of 11 social 2 and 11 social 3 at eleventh-grade students in Harapan Senior High School Denpasar. The writer gave a test to the participants. Since this study has purpose to know the students’ problem in learning vocabulary, the writer also interviewed 3 students who got lower score than other students to get rich description of the problems. The eleventh-grade students still have many difficulties in vocabulary learning. The categorization of the student problem is based on vocabulary learning aspects, such as pronunciation, spelling, word meaning and word use. The average score that the students got in pronunciation is 81,43%, in spelling is 59,71%, in word meaning is 71,02%, and in word use the students got 73,33%. So, the students still have problems in vocabulary. Furthermore, the problem can be caused by many factors, such as: hard to memorize many words, their motivation, or lack of experience in language learning.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF AUDIO VISUAL MEDIA TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ SKILL IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXTS TO THE NINTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP SWASTA PABA BINJAI IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2020/2021

The objectives of this Classroom Action Research (henceforth, CAR) are to prove that the audio visual media can improve students’ skill in writing recount texts and to describe the students’ responses after being taught with audio visual media. Audio visual media were applied to improve the writing skill of the ninth grade students of SMP Swasta PABA Binjai. After six meetings it could be seen that there is a significant improvement of the students’ audio visual media in writing recount texts. The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in pre-test is 40,23 with 18 % of students got score ≥ 75, in formative test is 59,09 with 36% of students got score ≥ 75, and in the post test is 72,73 with 73 % of students got score ≥ 75. The percentage students who strongly agree is 60 (66,6%), agree is 30 (33,3%), there is no students choose strongly disagree and disagree. It is suggested that English teachers use audio visual media as an alternative in teaching recount texts to their students.

THE USE OF DIGITAL STORYTELLING TO ENHANCE THE SPEAKING SKILL OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA SWASTA PALAPA MEDAN IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2020/2021

This research was conducted in order to improve students’ speaking skill by using digital storytelling at SMA Swasta Palapa Medan. Digital storytelling is the combination of recount text, sound effects, music, images, videos and InShot Application. This is Classroom Action Research (henceforth, CAR). The research subjects of this CAR are the eleventh grade students of SMA Swasta Palapa Medan in Class MIPA in the Academic Year of 2020/2021. The research findings showed that teaching speaking skill through digital storytelling at SMA Swasta Palapa Medan could improve the students’ speaking skill. The result of each test showed that the students’ mean score in pre-test is 55.74 with 11% of the students got score ≥70, in formative test the mean score is 64,44 with 37% of the students got score ≥70, and in post-test the mean score is 81,11 with 93% of the students got score ≥70. The writer concluded that the use of digital storytelling could improve the speaking skill of SMA Swasta Palapa Medan. On the other hand, the students’ responses towards the method of the teaching sound good because above 80% of the students are interested, motivated and enthusiastic in learning English speaking skill through the use of digital storytelling.

Writing Descriptive Mapping on students D3 Bahasa Inggris Programs

ABSTRACT
 This study concerns with the improve students’ creativity ability in writing descriptive paragraph through mind mapping technique. The objective of this study is to discover whether the use of mind mapping could significantly improve students’ creativity ability in writing descriptive paragraph. With support from the theory by Buzan. This study was conducted by applying Classroom Action Research which was carried out in two cycles in 4 meetings. The subject of this study was the Administration Public course in 2ed semester of Students Universitas Merdeka Malang which consisted of 20 students. The data will take in quantitative and qualitative data. Where quantitative data collected by giving descriptive writing tests that related to topic in TA( (tugas akhir) and calculating the mean of students’ scores. The quantities data were collected by the students’ score in (80. 55) which was higher than the first cycle (74.95) and orientation test (69.65). The qualitative data were collected observation and questionnaire sheets. The analyzed qualitative data gathered from the observation and questionnaire sheet during cycle I and II. It was found that students also made improvement students creativity in writing descriptive paragraph by using mapping on their TA (tugas akhir) while guidance and teaching learning proses . Despite all students got problems at 1st meeting, they could handle their difficulties and more enjoy their lesson. By the process they become active and creative in writing descriptive paragraph and qualitative data showed students strongly agreed by mind mapping had solve students problem in writing TA (tugas akhir) that related to writing descriptive paragraph. The result of the research showed that mind mapping significantly improved students’ ability in writing TA (tugas akhir) that related to descriptive paragraph text.
 

The Effect of the Discussing-Practicing-Reflection Technique on Basic Teaching Skills and Developing PAI Learning Tools in Scientific Approach

This study aims to see and describe how the process of implementing lectures using the Discussion-Practice-Reflection technique improves the ability to improve basic teaching skills and the ability to develop learning tools with a scientific approach. The research approach used is quantitative and quasi-experimental methods with a research sample of 24 students (5th semester PAI course participants) by total sampling technic. Based on the data and descriptions of the division that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the DPR learning technique has a positive effect on the two variables tested, namely: basic teaching skills and the ability to develop learning tools in scientific approach. It can be seen from the results of the test that 50% of the students got “very good”, then 37.5% got “good” and 12.5% got “enough”. It can also be said that the use of DPR techniques in developing basic teaching skills was quite successful. Regarding the ability to develop learning tools, as many as 37.5% of students got “very good”, then 46% got “good” and 16.5% got a “enough”. It can also be said that the use of DPR techniques in developing learning tools skill with a scientific approach is quite successful.

The Ability of the 4th Semester Students of English Education Study Program of Muhammadiyah University Palu in Writing Paragraph

The purpose of this research is to find out the ability of the 4th semester students of English department in writing descriptive paragraph. The subject of the research is the 4th semester students in academic year of 2017 consisting of seven students. This research used qualitative descriptive method.Written test and interview as techniques of data collection, and technique of data analysis were used percentage that was described qualitatively. Research finding shows that the mean score of the seven students is 77. Three of the seven students got 81, 82, 89.They belonged to excellent and good categories, and four students got 71, 72,74 and 66, they belonged to enough and poor categories. The result of interview indicated the seven students have different difficulties or problems; most the students faced problems on content and language uses.

PENERAPAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN BERBASIS PROYEK TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN MENULIS TEKS PUISI

Writing activities are an indirect way of communicating by delivering written messages using language in the form of notes. writing is not just ordinary writing that is poured, but many kinds of written works such as writing poetry. Poetry is written work with expressions of feelings, experiences or knowledge that contain elements and linguistic rules. Sometimes there are still many students who are confused in writing poetry because of a lack of interest or knowledge. Therefore, this research was conducted according to the circumstances that occurred by applying a project-based learning model to writing poetry to motivate students to be more active, creative and to take the initiative in writing poetry. This study used descriptive qualitative method. In this study, the subjects were students of class X MIPA 1 at SMAN 1 Gununghalu with a total of 21 students, consisting of 6 male students and 15 female students. The results showed 11 students got high scores, 7 students got sufficient scores, and 3 students got low scores. The results concluded in this study that the use of project-based learning models in class X MIPA 1 students can improve students' skills in writing poetry texts.

EFL TEACHERS� REASONS, PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS OF USING GOOGLE CLASSROOM IN TEACHING AND LEARNING ENGLISH DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN BENGKULU

Google Classroom is an essential online platform promoting teaching and learning process during Covid-19 pandemic. The research aims to investigate the English as Foreign Language (EFL) teachers� reasons, problems and analyse their solutions to overcome the problems of using Google Classroom in English teaching and learning process. This research employed a qualitative method. Five EFL teachers were selected as the participant of study. They were selected based on the purposive sampling technique and taken from Senior High Schools in Bengkulu Province. The findings demonstrate that the problems of using Google Classroom are the teachers should prepare the material lesson well and they were expected to be more creative and innovative in making learning media. However, the lack of internet quota and connection made the students got difficulty to receive the learning material or submit assignments. They were also got difficulty to ask directly to the teacher if they did not understand the lesson. In turn, to overcome the problems in teaching and learning English process by using Google Classroom, the teachers participated in training related to the use of Google Classroom for teaching and learning English. In preparing learning media, the teachers provided the material in many forms such as video, voice notes, PDF, or text reading. Furthermore, the teachers invited the students to ask directly by chatting personally or calling by video conference. They also made a lesson video or gave a link of an explanational material video and invited the students to give them feedback on the lesson.
 

PENGARUH PENDEKATAN HIGH ORDER THINKING SKILL (HOTS) TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN MENULIS TEKS EKSPLANASI

Writing is a language skill in expressing main ideas or ideas in writing. Writing skills are not easy to do in learning, this is related to the level of writing at the highest level position. Learning must be done by choosing an approach that can promote students' critical thinking skills. The explanatory text is a text that can express students' ideas in writing about phenomena. Therefore, this study was conducted on the background of how the learning process of writing explanatory text with an approach that can provide a stimulus for critical thinking. The purpose of this study was to determine the explanatory text writing skills influenced by the HOTS approach. The research method used in this study was descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study were 26 students of class VIII-B of SMPN 2 Margaasih. The results showed that 16 students got high scores, 7 students got adequate scores and 3 students got low scores. The results of the study concluded that the use of HOTS-based approaches in class VIII-B students could improve their explanatory text writing skills.

Students’ Difficulties in Answering the Written Expression Section of the TOEFL Test at English Study Program of State Islamic University of SUSKA Riau

TOEFL test is one of the requirements for the students of English Study Program of State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau (UIN Suska Riau) to finish their study at S1 Degree. Based on the researcher’s observation, most of the students did not pass the TOEFL Test. The students followed the test for several times till they reached the passing grade. It seemed that the students got difficulties in answering the TOEFL Test. So, in this research the researcher focused on analyzing the students’ difficulties in answering the Written Expression section of the TOEFL test. The aims of this research were to identify the categories of items in the Written Expression section of the TOEFL test which were difficult for the fourth semester students of English Study Program UIN Suska Riau, and to identify which categories of items that were easy for the students. This research was a quantitative research. The researcher analyzed the categories of items tested in TOEFL test, especially in the Written Expression section. There were 12 categories of items tested in the Written Expression section of the TOEFL test based on Longman Preparation Course for the TOEFL Test by Deborah Phillips (2000: 144-221). The categories consisted of subject-verb agreement, parallel structure, comparative and superlative, the use of the verbs, the forms of the verbs, passive verbs, nouns, pronouns, adjectives and adverbs, articles, prepositions and usages The result of the research showed that all of the categories of items were difficult for the students. None of the categories of items were easy for the students. The most difficult category for the students was usages. So, in general, the students extremely got difficulties in answering the Written Expression section of the TOEFL test.

CORRELATION AMONG GRAMMAR MASTERY AND VOCABULARY SIZE TOWARD TRANSLATION ABILITY ON REPORT TEXT

The crucial problem of translating Indonesia to English language are the students’ lack of knowledge and mother tongue (source language) that two of them are grammar and vocabulary. The researcher focused to measure the correlation among grammar mastery and vocabulary size toward translation ability on report text at seventh semester students in State Islamic Institute of Palangka Raya that use quantitative method with a correlational design. The researcher’s instruments were three test which were grammar mastery, vocabulary size, and translation test that were tested to the 32 students’ translation class in academic year 2017/2018. The numerical data were analyzed by Pearson Product Moment that showed that: (1) the most students got “fail” (43.75%) grammar mastery, (2) the most students got “excellent” (46.875%) vocabulary size, (3) the most students got “enough” (87.5%) translation ability. The significant correlation among three variables were proved by correlation coefficient 0.604 (strong category), Fchange > Ftable = 8.349 > 3.33, and the contribution of grammar mastery and vocabulary size delivered 36.5%. Thus, it sums that students’ grammar mastery and vocabulary size correlate with the quality of students’ translation ability on report text at seventh semester students in academic year 2017/2018. IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SPEAKNG SKILL IN THE ASPECT OF GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY ABOUT DESCRIBING ANIMALS BY USING CUE CARDS MEDIA

This research aimed at improving the students’ speaking skill at grade VII of SMP Islamiyah Pontianak in the academic year of 2019/2020 through cue cards media. This classroom action research was conducted in three cycles; on November 14th, 21st and 28th respectively. It involved 22 seventh grader students as well as the English teacher as the collaborator. The data were taken from the observation, field notes and speaking task. The data of speaking was obtained by speaking task which was assessed through scoring rubric. The result showed that students’ problems in grammar and vocabulary had been solved by using Cue Cards media. The most interesting part of this research was, the cue cards could break the ice among the students as there are pictures and questions which stimulate students’ prior knowledge and could be used as handy clues for them during the learning process. Furthermore, the students’ speaking improved constantly from cycle 1 (the highest score was 48, 3 students got score 48), cycle 2 (the highest score was 64, 2 students got score 64) and cycle 3 (the highest score was 84, 6 students had not achieved the minimum score which is 75). Not only their individual speaking achievement got improved, but also their interest in learning. THE USE OF ROSETTA STONE LANGUAGE LEARNING SOFTWARE IN TEACHING LISTENING: DOCUMENTARY RESEARCH

This study focused on analyzing the use of Rosetta Stone Language Learning Software in teaching listening comprehension. Based on three previous journal from different universities in Indonesia the writer found that selected institutional repository website in Indonesia discusses about using Rosetta Stone Language Learning Software in teaching listening comprehension. The data described the facts on the use of Rosetta Stone based on the results of research by three researchers which have been published in three scholarly publications in Indonesia. This research is to find out the effectiveness of Rosetta Stone Software in teaching listening comprehension, this study had two data, the primary data (research journals) and secondary data (books). The conclusion that can be taken based on these research reports is the use of Rosetta Stone Software in improving students’ listening skills is effective. There are significant differences in learning listening comprehension between those who had been taught by using Rosetta Stone media and those who had not been taught by using Rosetta Stone media in terms of the scores the students got in the pre-test and post-test.

USE OF ANIMATION MOVIE TOWARDS STUDENTS SPEAKING ABILITY THROUGH E-LEARNING

This study is the use of English animation movie as a media in teaching speaking through e-learning process, and it is intended to improve the speaking ability of the students. The methodology used is classroom action research and SMA Keberbakatan Olahraga Negeri (SMAKON) Aceh as a research subject. The source of the data in this study is from the communication between teacher and students in teaching and learning process through e-learning. The instruments are used observation and test. The data observation is analyzed by using qualitative method and the data from the test is analyzed by using quantitative method. In the pre-test result, there are only 1 student who complete pre-test from the total 4 students who followed pre-test. The percentage is still under the predictive criteria, specifically ? 80% from the average score of students that is ? 65. Meanwhile, the post-test shown that all four students got exhaustive score with the percentage reached 50% and the score average reached 50. It means that X IPS-1 student’s improving speaking by using animation movie on e-Learning process at SMAKON is in good category. On the observation result of X IPS-1 students’ improving speaking on e-Learning process improves. Before the researcher implemented animation movie, the percentage only reached 25%, either student’s improving on e-Learning process or students’ activity during teaching and learning process. Then, the percentage increased to 100% for students’ improving speaking on e-Learning process and 83.75% for students’ activity during teaching and learning process after animation movie has implemented.

Graphical User Interface for Shuffling of Sections based on Student Profile

This project GUI for shuffling of sections is done to automate the hectic work of shuffling students into sections has been programed in python using open source module using pandas and tkinter the overall result achieved to this program is that students got shuffled into sections with same ratio of male and female in all section, and average of ranks of students of all sections are similar as to maintain equality and integrity. This program gives a GUI for the administrator to access the file with data of students stored to manipulate that data. In this project we will implement using python programming language .in python, we will use module pandas, TKinter. Pandas to manipulate data of students from an excel file through python program, TKinter is used to add GUI to the program to select the file to be manipulated pandas is a software library written for the python language for data manipulation and analysis. In particular, it offers data structures and operations for manipulating numerical tables and time series In particular, it offers data structures and operations for manipulating numerical tables and time series. TKINTER is a software library for creating library for creating GUI using python language.

Reading Comprehension Test and Its Challenges In Students’ Perspective

There are two objectives of this research were first, to find the most difficult question category that students faced in reading test, and last, to investigate the causes of students' difficulties. This research used a qualitative method and it was conducted at the first semester students of c class English Department of UNTIRTA year 2019. The descriptive method was used to expose the result of this research. The data were collected through documents of reading comprehension final test first semester and an interview with the students. The document was used to find out the most difficult question category, and the result after analyzing the document is the students got difficulties in answering the question about vocabulary mastery. It is also supported by the result of interviewing the students. There were 17 students from 20 students or 85% felt that the vocabulary question category in part B was difficult. Then, the interview was also used to investigate the causes of the student's difficulties in reading test. The result got after analysis, the causes of the students got difficulties and confused to answer vocabulary question because they were lack of vocabulary mastery, and their reading habit was poor. So, it indicates that students’ capability of guessing meaning some unfamiliar vocabulary or words in the current context needs to be improved.

An Overview of Menstrual Hygiene Management in Female Adolescent

Lack of knowledge about menstrual hygiene management and poor water sanitation are the main problems for female adolescents. This study aims to determine the description of menstrual hygiene management's implementation in boarding school's students in Bantul, Yogyakarta. This research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique in this study was a total population with 38 students as the samples. The collecting data process was done using questionnaires. The result show that female adolescents' behaviour regarding personal hygiene during menstruation falls into the excellent category (81.6%) and majority students got knowledge about menstrual hygiene management from their parents (47.4%).

The Effect of Inquiry Learning Models on Students Learning Outcomes in Electronic Basic Lessons

Assessment of learning outcomes essentially aims to measure the success of learning carried out by the teacher as well as to measure the success of students in mastering predetermined competencies. Learning outcomes can be said to be successful if most of the students' scores get scores on the KKM. At the time of observation in the Basic Electrical Electronics subject, it was found that around 19 students got scores that were still below the KKM during midterm tests. This study aims to obtain information related to an increase in learning outcomes in Basic Electrical Electronics in the competence of explaining and using electronic measuring instruments. This study used an experimental research method with a one-group model and used the pre-test and post-test methods as a means of comparison testing with a population of 10th grade students at one of the private vocational schools majoring in Industrial Electronic Engineering in the Bekasi area and a sample of 34 class 10 students majoring in Industrial Electronics Engineering. The results of the study can be concluded that there is a positive influence on the inquiry learning model on student learning outcomes in the Basic Electrical Electronics subject and dk = 33 is 2.445.

Implementation of the 2013 Curriculum in English Language Teaching

This study is aimed at (1) describing the 2013 Curriculum implementation in the ELT process and (2) investigating the strengths and weaknesses of online learning. The researcher selected English language teaching at SMP Joannes Bosco Yogyakarta as a research site, especially for both a senior English teacher and seventh-grade students as the participants. The researcher used a case study. The case of this research was the teaching-learning process and the students’ problems at SMP Joannes Bosco Yogyakarta in learning English. The data used were recorded observation (teaching and learning process), document (lesson plan, syllabus, and curriculum), interview (the senior English teacher about the way of teaching) and questionnaires (for 7th-grade students about their difficulties). The collected data in this research were analyzed descriptively. Based on the data analysis, findings show that the teacher did not apply the scientific approach (observing, questioning, experimenting, associating, communicating) effectively or optimally. The strengths and weaknesses of online learning were various. The strengths were such as the process of ELT, media use, and students’ task or activity. The weaknesses were such as the teaching and learning were boring, students had no good internet connection, students could not concentrate very well, nobody accompanied them at home, and students got bored easily.

THE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN UNDERSTANDING DESCRIPTIVE ESSAY

The purpose of this research is to find out the students’ ability in understanding descriptive essay at Second Semester Students of STKIP Insan Madani Airmolek. The researcher used Descriptive Analysis Research. In this research, researcher wants to describe the students’ ability in understanding descriptive essay. This research used the formulation total percentage of the result students ability descriptive essay and describe the result in understanding descriptive essay. The students’ ability tests answer include all meeting their score of the test result were fair is 57%. The result in understanding descriptive essay are most of the students got less in understanding descriptive essay, two students got fair criterion, and two students got fair good criterion.
