Exploring Complexity: A Bibliometric Analysis of Agent-Based Modeling in Finance and Banking

This study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the use of agent-based modeling (ABM) in finance and banking, aiming to uncover how this methodology has evolved over the past two decades. It addresses the following overarching question: How has ABM contributed to the development of financial research in terms of trends, key contributors, and thematic directions? The relevance of this topic is based on the growing complexity of financial systems and the limitations of traditional models in capturing dynamic interactions, contagion effects, and systemic risks. Using a refined dataset of 489 articles from the Web of Science (2000–2024), selected through a multi-step keyword and relevance screening process, we apply bibliometric techniques using R Studio (version 2024.12.1+563) and Bibliometrix (version 4.3.3). The analysis reveals stable publication growth, strong international collaborations (notably Italy, USA, and China), and core thematic areas such as risk management, market simulation, financial stability, and policy evaluation. The findings highlight both well-established and emerging research fronts, with agent-based models increasingly used to simulate real-world financial phenomena and support regulatory strategies. By mapping the intellectual structure of the field, this paper provides a solid foundation for future interdisciplinary research and practical insights for policymakers seeking innovative tools for financial supervision and decision making.

The Role of Islamic Values ​​in Building a Generation of Noble Morals

This study explores the role of Islamic values in shaping a morally upright generation, emphasizing the integration of character education within family, school, and community settings. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach through library research, this study examines various scholarly sources, including the Qur'an, Hadith, academic books, journal articles, and official documents. Data were analyzed using content analysis to assess the conceptual foundations of Islamic values, strategies for character formation, and their practical applications in social life. The findings reveal that Islamic values play a crucial role in fostering individuals with strong integrity, responsibility, and high moral awareness. Islam provides a balanced approach between encouragement (bashiran) and warning (nazhiran), shaping individuals' consciousness of the consequences of their actions. The study further highlights that character education based on Islamic teachings is highly effective in producing individuals who are not only intellectually capable but also spiritually resilient. As contemporary society faces increasing moral challenges due to globalization and technological advancements, this research underscores the relevance of Islamic character education in addressing these issues. The study concludes that through strong collaboration between families, educational institutions, and society, Islamic values can be effectively implemented to cultivate a generation that is morally grounded and contributes to a harmonious society. The significance of this research lies in its comprehensive analysis of Islamic character education and its practical recommendations for integrating Islamic principles into modern education systems.

Biomarkers used in the diagnosis and prognosis of gastric cancer in young patients: a scientometric analysis

IntroductionGastric cancer in young people is a global health burden, although it is less common than in other age groups. The use of biomarkers is developing in the diagnosis, treatment selection and prognosis of gastric cancer in young patients. In this bibliometric analysis we aim to evaluate the progress of this knowledge, trend topic development and scientific teams and countries involvements in the topic of biomarkers role in gastric cancer in young patients.MethodsThe data were obtained from Scopus (536 publications) for the period 1993–2024, all relevant metadata were analyzed using RStudio and Biblioshiny package to perform global trends and hotspots analysis.ResultsPublication trends show a constant increase in interest in gastric cancer biomarkers used in the diagnosis and prognosis of gastric cancer in young patients (7.71% per year). The leading countries were China, USA, and Japan, between which there is strong and sustained collaborations. International co-authorship is relatively low (19.4%). The most prolific research centers were Sungkyunkwan University, Sun Yat-sen University, and Fudan University. The most productive researchers were Zhang X., Wang Y., and Li Y. Keywords analysis showed an increase in mentions of topics related to diagnostics (biomarkers, immunohistochemistry), personalized medicine and prognosis.ConclusionBibliometric analysis of more than three decades research articles on gastric cancer biomarkers in young patients showed a steady increase, with strong contributions from leading countries and institutions, highlighting the growing focus on diagnostics, personalized medicine, and prognosis.

Alzheimer's disease and insomnia: a bibliometric study and visualization analysis

BackgroundAlzheimer's disease (AD) is the fastest-growing neurodegenerative disorder globally, with patient numbers expected to rise to 130 million by 2050. Insomnia, a prevalent comorbidity, exhibits a bidirectional relationship with AD: insomnia accelerates AD pathology, while AD worsens sleep disorders. This relationship has emerged as a key area of research. Current mechanisms involve oxidative stress, inflammatory responses, and glymphatic system dysfunction, yet a comprehensive review of these processes remains absent.ObjectiveTo conduct a visual analysis of the relationship between Alzheimer's disease and insomnia using CiteSpace.MethodsLiterature on “insomnia” and “Alzheimer's disease” published between January 1, 2000, and October 31, 2024, was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace and VOSviewer software were used to analyze institutions, authors, and keywords.ResultsA total of 1,907 articles were analyzed, revealing a consistent upward trend in publication volume. The United States and the Mayo Clinic were identified as leading contributors, producing 704 and 57 publications, respectively. Boeve Bradley F the most prolific author contributed 30 publications. Collaboration was actively observed among countries, institutions, and authors. High-frequency keywords identified were “Parkinson's disease,” “cognitive impairment,” and “sleep behavior disorder.” Emerging research areas are likely to focus on “sleep quality” and the “glymphatic system.”ConclusionThis study is the first to apply bibliometric analysis to identify three key trends in AD and insomnia research: the dominance of the United States and Mayo Clinic, strong international collaboration, and a focus on critical areas such as cognitive impairment, the glymphatic system, and sleep interventions. Insomnia may accelerate AD progression via multiple pathways, indicating that enhancing sleep quality could provide new strategies for early intervention. Future research should prioritize advancing the clinical translation of sleep interventions and investigating the mechanisms of the glymphatic system.

Trends in Safety Culture Research: A Scopus Analysis

Safety culture plays a vital role in creating safer work environments, making its understanding important. This paper comprehensively analyzes safety culture research trends through a bibliometric study using the Scopus database. This study provided a full insight by analyzing 7058 papers published between 1978 and 2023, employing the PRISMA method and VOSviewer 1.6.19 for bibliometric mapping. The USA, England, China, and Australia are the leading contributors, with Johns Hopkins University being the most active institution. Approximately 75% of publications are co-authored, indicating strong collaboration in this field. Guldenmund (2000) is the most referenced work in safety culture research. Based on the results, this work identifies significant geographical gaps, particularly in Oceania, South America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa, as well as underexplored sectors such as transportation, logistics, energy, sports, education, and construction. The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted research in this area, particularly healthcare, while potentially diverting attention from other critical sectors. This study contributes a fresh perspective on the trends of safety culture research, offering valuable insights for scholars and practitioners. Additionally, it highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing the unique challenges faced by safety culture across diverse industries and regions.

Embracing E-learning in Zimbabwe’s Science Teacher Capacity Development Programmes: A Systematic Literature Review

This paper explores the embracing of e-learning in Zimbabwe's science teacher capacity development programmes, probing the opportunities and challenges. The discussion in this paper grounded in a systematic literature review to provide a holistic view through the use of the PRISMA 2020 checklist ensured transparency and consistency in selecting the 64 sources from databases (DOAJ, DHTE, IBSS, Scielo SA, Scopus and WoS). This provides a comprehensive interrogation of the issue at the centre of discussion. The paper highlights e-learning and how to embrace it in science teacher capacity development. In addition, it outlines approaches used to embrace e-learning in science teacher capacity development. This creates the need to look at how e-learning can enhance accessibility, reduce costs, and improve science teacher capacity development outcomes. However, substantial challenges such as limited access to the internet connection, scarce technological set-up and resistance to transformation from both science teachers were acknowledged. In conclusion, by embracing e-learning in Zimbabwe's science teacher capacity development programmes it creates a platform for promoting education and training. It can be recommended that the stakeholders involved in science teacher capacity development programmes need to establish a strong collaboration such that they can address the identified challenges. Therefore, the use of the right approaches to embracing e-learning in science teacher capacity development programmes can be a game changer in science learning activities.

Research on the hysteresis effect of topic related evolution for emerging trends prediction

ABSTRACT Purpose The study examines the synergy and hysteresis in the evolution of funding and its supported literature, depicts their temporal correlation mechanism, which aids in improving trend predictions. Design/methodology/approach The study uses the LDA model to identify topics in funding texts and supported papers. A cosine similarity algorithm was employed to estimate the nexus between topics and construct the topic evolution time series. Similarly, the hysteresis effect in topic evolution is analyzed based on topic popularity and content, leading to insights into their temporal correlation mechanism. Findings The study finds that fund and sponsored paper topics exhibit strong collaboration with a noticeable lag in evolution. The fund topics significantly influence sponsored paper topics after a two-year lag. Moreover, the lag effect is inversely proportional to the topic’s similarity. Research limitations We use the LDA model to determine the hysteresis effect in topic evolution despite its limitations in handling long-tail words and domain-specific vocabulary. Furthermore, the timing of the emergence of the focal topic in funds is undermined, affecting the findings. Practical implications These findings enhance the accuracy and scientific validity of trend prediction. Estimating and identifying patterns can help technology managers anticipate future research hotspots, supporting informed decision-making and technology management. Originality/value This study introduces a research framework to quantitatively and visually analyze the hysteresis effect, revealing the correlation and evolutionary patterns between fund research topics and their funded papers.

Assessment of a medical physics educational program for science teachers

AbstractIntroductionMedical physics is a fulfilling profession where physics is applied to advance human health. However, many are uninformed of the role of physicists in medicine, and students are unaware of this career pathway. This study presents a pilot 1‐year program for science teachers to learn about physics in medicine and share with students and teachers.MethodsA cohort of middle school and high school science teachers were selected to learn about physics in medicine, develop lesson plans for their students, participate in a Physics in Medicine field trip hosted at a cancer hospital, and concluded with a professional development day for other regional science teachers. Surveys were conducted throughout the program to assess attitudes toward teaching medical physics, content knowledge of medical physics, collaboration, and demographic information from participants.ResultsThe program was implemented over the course of a year which included 5 school districts, 10 science teachers, and hundreds of students. After participating in the program, teacher scores on surveys regarding attitudes toward teaching medical physics and content knowledge significantly increased for the cohort. Strong collaboration between teaching pairs was maintained throughout the program based on survey responses. Teachers participating in the 1‐day professional development program also benefited from the program based on survey responses regarding attitudes toward medical physics and interest in learning more about medical physics.DiscussionThis pilot study demonstrated the feasibility and effectiveness of an educational model for teachers’ understanding and connecting medical physics with students in their schools. The program was well received by teachers and students, and this manuscript provides guidelines for effective replication of the curriculum at other institutions.

Experiences of Continuity of Care Among Registered Nurses Caring for Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in Primary Care: A Qualitative Study.

To explore Registered Nurses' experiences of continuity of care for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in primary care. An inductive, descriptive qualitative study. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 11 purposively sampled Registered Nurses of varying levels of experience from eight regions in Sweden. The audiotaped interviews were conducted over a 5-month period (December 2023-April 2024), transcribed verbatim and analysed using interpretive description. Registered Nurses' experiences of continuity of care for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are described by three themes (seven subthemes): Patient continuity (Building personal relationships: Being accessible and enabling trust and confirmation), Collaborator continuity (Having a colleague to lean on: Colleagues can lean on me: Feeling alone with my expertise) and Continuity with myself (Trusting my own competence: Carrying a burden alone). Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research Guidelines. This study provides an understanding of Registered Nurses' experiences of continuity of care in primary care. The results may help improve future care since nurses play an essential role in the care of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease within primary care. To enhance continuity of care for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the relationship between the nurse and the patient is important, as is collaboration with colleagues. This collaborative approach allows these nurses to maintain continuity with both the patients and themselves, fostering a more stable and effective care environment. This study offers valuable insights into the experiences of Registered Nurses in maintaining continuity of care within primary care, particularly for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. By highlighting the critical role of Registered Nurses in managing these patients, the study underscores the importance of strong nurse-patient relationships and effective collaboration among healthcare professionals. 573 Feasibility of an Unfunded Multicenter Trial Group for Older Adult Burn Patients: A Retrospective Study

Abstract Introduction Older adults represent a significant portion of the burn patient population, presenting unique physiological challenges and requiring tailored treatment approaches. Yet, comprehensive data specific to this demographic are limited. The relatively small number of older burn patients at each center makes single-center studies insufficient to address key questions about their care. The development of a multicenter trial group focused on older adult burn patients could yield valuable insights into clinical outcomes, yet funding for such initiatives is often restricted. This study explores the feasibility of creating an unfunded multicenter trial group and conducting a retrospective pilot study to examine clinical trends and outcomes for older adult burn patients. Methods Following IRB approval and the creation of data use agreements, a retrospective pilot study was conducted across twelve burn centers in North America. Each center was tasked with collecting standardized data on burn patients aged 60 and older from January 2017 to December 2019. Data included demographic information, burn characteristics (total body surface area burned, type of burn, etc.), treatment interventions, and outcomes such as mortality, length of hospital stay, and complications. Where possible, data were sourced from each center’s submission to the Burn Care Quality Platform (BCQP). BCQP and additional data were manually entered into a centralized REDCap database managed by one institution. Descriptive statistics of the pilot study are presented. Results The study included 1,632 older adult burn patients. Median age was 68 years (interquartile range [IQR] 13); 1,095 patients (67%) were male and 1,187 (73%) were White with a median BMI of 27.5 (IQR 7.87). The median burn size was 3.5% total body surface area (IQR 9, range 0-100%). Patients presented a median of 4.68 hours after injury (IQR 15.35), with a median modified Baux score of 76.21 (IQR 20.5). These patients underwent a median of 1 operation (IQR 1), typically 3 days after injury (IQR 6). The median length of hospital stay was 6 days (IQR 13), with an ICU stay of 1 day (IQR 5). In-hospital mortality was 10.4% and the median time to wound healing was 40 days (IQR 48). Conclusions Creating an unfunded multicenter trial group for older adult burn patients is feasible. The group successfully conducted a retrospective study on care trends for burn-injured older adults. Key factors in the success of this initiative included standardized data collection protocols and strong collaboration between centers. Applicability of Research to Practice Although challenges remain, this project illustrates the potential for establishing a larger, sustainable multicenter trial group aimed at improving clinical practices and outcomes for older burn patients. A two-decade bibliometric analysis of drug resistance in oral cancer research: patterns, trends, and future directions

BackgroundDrug resistance in oral cancer presents a significant challenge in clinical treatment. Understanding the research landscape through bibliometric analysis can provide valuable insights into the development and trends in this field.ObjectiveTo comprehensively analyze the global research trends, collaboration patterns, and emerging topics in oral cancer drug resistance research from 2000 to 2024 using bibliometric methods.MethodsPublications related to oral cancer drug resistance were retrieved from the Web of Science core collection database. CiteSpace and VOSviewer were employed to analyze publication trends, research collaboration networks, and keyword co-occurrence patterns. The analysis included annual publication outputs, country contributions, institutional productivity, author collaborations, journal distributions, and research hotspots.ResultsA total of 971 publications were identified, showing a significant increase in research output over the study period, particularly after 2014. China led in publication output (485 articles), followed by Japan (130 articles) and the United States (118 articles). China Medical University was the most productive institution (50 publications). The International Journal of Molecular Sciences, Cancers, and Oral Oncology were the primary publishing venues. Keyword analysis revealed an evolution from basic drug resistance mechanisms to emerging research areas including cancer stem cells, tumor microenvironment, and extracellular vesicles.ConclusionsThis bibliometric analysis demonstrates the rapid growth and evolving nature of oral cancer drug resistance research. The findings highlight the shift towards more sophisticated research areas and strong international collaboration patterns. These insights can guide future research directions and collaboration opportunities in this field.

Current Developments in Malaria Vaccination: A Concise Review on Implementation, Challenges, and Future Directions.

Malaria remains a persistent challenge in global health, disproportionately affecting populations in endemic regions (eg, sub-Saharan Africa). Despite decades of international collaborative efforts, malaria continues to claim hundreds of thousands of lives each year, with young children and pregnant women enduring the heaviest burden. This concise review aimed to provide an up-to-date assessment of malaria vaccines progress, challenges, and future directions. A PubMed/MEDLINE search (2015-2024) was conducted to identify studies on malaria vaccine development, implementation barriers, efficacy, and vaccination hesitancy. Clinical trials, reviews, and global health reports were included based on relevance to the review aims. No strict inclusion criteria were applied, and selection was guided by key review themes and policy relevance. The introduction of pre-erythrocytic malaria vaccines (RTS,S/AS01 and R21/Matrix-M), represents an important milestone in malaria control efforts with promising results from the erythrocytic vaccine RH5.1/Matrix-M in recent clinical trials. However, the approval of these vaccines is accompanied by significant challenges such as the limited efficacy, the complexity of multi-dose regimens, and numerous barriers to widespread implementation in resource-limited settings. The review identified the complex challenges to broad malaria vaccination coverage, including logistical barriers, healthcare infrastructure effect, financial limitations, malaria vaccine hesitancy, among other obstacles in malaria-endemic regions. Promising developments in malaria vaccination, such as next-generation candidates (eg, mRNA-based vaccines), hold the potential to offer improved efficacy, longer-lasting protection, and greater scalability. There is a critical need to integrate malaria vaccination efforts with established malaria control interventions (eg, insecticide-treated bed nets, vector control strategies, and anti-malarial drugs). Achieving sustained control of malaria morbidity and mortality will require strong global collaboration, sufficient funding, and continuous efforts to address inequities in access and delivery of malaria control measures including the malaria vaccines.

Purpose: This study aims to derive trends in European teacher education research by analyzing European teacher education policies, programs, and research trends. Methods: Through previous research and literature analysis on teacher education in Europe, trends in teacher education and research in Europe were analyzed. Results: The European teacher education policy emphasises lifelong learning competences and the willingness to learn throughout life. Moreover, professional competences, such as dealing with diversity and uncertainty, and collaboration skills are emphasised. The agreed “two + three year” higher education degree model from the Bologna process has influenced the programs; however, 30% of the programs are still shorter than five years. Pedagogical or professional studies take 1-4 years in primary ITE and 0-2 years in secondary ITE. In many European countries, there are alternative pathways to teacher qualification, such as learning on the job. Teacher educators in European countries are active in educational research, including research on teacher education. Conclusion: Conclusions include the aims of the teacher education programs or curricula reflecting strategic aims described in EU policy documents, strong collaboration between European countries in the development of teacher education, etc.

The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Quality and Sustainable Development: a Bibliometric Analysis

Purpose: This bibliometric study aims to analyse the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on quality and sustainable development. Methodology/Approach: The research employed the InOrdinatio method, complemented by R Studio and the Bibliometrix package, to conduct a comprehensive review of scientific publications from 2000 to 2024. Findings: The results reveal a significant annual growth rate of 25% in scientific production, accumulating 925 documents. AI has been widely applied to optimise organisational quality processes, particularly in manufacturing and technology sectors. Furthermore, AI has contributed to sustainable development by enhancing resource management and promoting sustainable practices. The study highlights strong international collaboration, with China, the United States, and India leading scientific output. Research Limitation/Implication: Despite the increasing convergence of AI, quality, and sustainability, the study identifies gaps in research integration across underrepresented regions and a lack of focus on emerging areas. Originality/Value of paper: This study provides a structured bibliometric analysis, shedding light on the evolving role of AI in enhancing quality management and fostering sustainability. Financial inclusion has emerged as a crucial factor in promoting economic development, reducing poverty, and fostering financial stability. This study employs a bibliometric analysis to explore the intellectual landscape, key research themes, and trends in financial inclusion research using data exclusively from the Scopus database. Utilizing VOSviewer, the study examines keyword co-occurrence, co-authorship networks, and geographic distribution to identify influential scholars, institutions, and countries contributing to the field. The findings reveal an evolution from traditional microfinance approaches toward digital financial services, financial technology (FinTech), and sustainability-linked financial inclusion initiatives. The analysis highlights strong international research collaborations, with India, China, and the United Kingdom playing significant roles in shaping financial inclusion discourse. Moreover, emerging research trends suggest an increasing focus on digital finance, environmental sustainability, and gender disparities in financial access. Despite progress, persistent challenges such as financial literacy gaps, regulatory barriers, and regional inequalities remain critical concerns. This study contributes to the understanding of financial inclusion research trends and provides insights for policymakers, financial institutions, and researchers to design more inclusive and effective financial policies. The urban environment in South Asia: studying the ambient air quality in a mid-sized city in Bangladesh

Improving the urban environment is an urgent task in the fast-growing mid-sized cities of South Asia. Ambient air pollution is worsened by unplanned urban land use and a lack of green and waterbodies, which combined cause a rapid increase in the urban heat island (UHI) effect. This study focuses on pervasive ambient air pollution in the urban environment, primarily driven by particulate matter (PM), which presents a dire public health threat. An in-situ investigation of 48 sites in a mid-sized but fast-growing city, Mymensingh, Bangladesh, suggested that the PM2.5 concentration (118 ± 64 μg/m3) is about eight times higher than the daily average suggested by WHO (15 μg/m3). Weekdays and weekends do not show significant differences in PM generation. Geospatial analysis suggests that good air quality conditions are not found in the study area, and > 50% of people are exposed to PM10 in very unhealthy conditions (≥151 μg/m3). Traffic and commercial land cover generate the highest PM level. The monsoon climatic events control precipitation and are the most influential factor in diminishing PM concentrations. However, fast-growing mid-sized cities, like Mymensingh in Bangladesh and others throughout South Asia, are facing extreme ambient air pollution that severely impacts public health. Therefore, more action-oriented research initiatives are needed to formulate policies to control air pollution, considering local experiences, indigenous knowledge, logistics capabilities, cultural orientation, transparency, accountability, and strong collaboration, cooperation, and commitment among the public-private partnership.
