State-of-the-art EMMS drag model for bubbling fluidization needs an empirical correlation for bubble diameter. In this short communication, an EMMS drag model is developed to predict the effective drag coefficient without the use of an empirical correlation for bubble diameter. The model is then coupled with mesoscience-based structural model to simulate the hydrodynamics of three bubbling fluidized beds, it is shown that the bed hydrodynamics can be predicted reasonably well, in terms of axial and radial solid concentration profiles. Present study establishes an effective and simple model for simulating bubbling fluidization using mesoscience-based structural model.
