HUMAN CAPITAL AS A RESOURCE FOR THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF UKRAINE

The article examines the key trends and challenges of human capital as the primary lever of Ukraine’s socio-economic development. The socio-economic essence and components involved in the formation and development of human capital, such as standard of living, education, and material well- being, are analyzed. Using a composite approach, the key human development indicators that underlie the formation, accumulation, and growth of the country’s human capital have been studied. It was established that a relationship exists between the level of human capital development and the country’s overall economic and social progress. The main determinants exerting the greatest influence on the formation and effective use of human capital in Ukraine are identified. With the use of structural and dynamic analysis, an assessment of the development of human capital for the period 2012-2022 was carried out. The problems of human capital in the economic dimension are analyzed through a number of economic factors: gross domestic product, income and expenditure of the population, unemployment, inflation, and wages. Correlation-regression analysis between the determined factors demonstrated the existence of a close relationship between the incomes of the population, gross domestic product, and wages. This gave the authors reason to claim that the growth of gross domestic product and wages contributes to an increase in the income of the population, which, in turn, has a positive effect on the potential opportunities for the qualitative development of human capital. The problems of the social dimension are analyzed through a number of social factors: the demographic situation, the education of the population, the quality of health care, the state of the environment, and the social policy of the state. The authors proved that the process of formation and development of human capital in Ukraine today can be considered more negative than positive. At the same time, the role of the state in forming the prerequisites for the accumulation and growth of human capital is decreasing, since the emphasis of social development has shifted not in favor of the factors of its formation. This is confirmed by the reduction in the share of expenditures for financing all social factors of human development, without exception, in the total amount of state expenditures during the period under study. The key directions and levers for ensuring the sustainable growth of human capital, including during the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, are proposed, based on the formation of a targeted socio-economic policy aimed at its preservation, accumulation, and development. The levers defined by the authors will make it possible to form a balanced vector of the socio-economic development of society, and their implementation at the state level will contribute to the accumulation, growth, and qualitative transformation of human capital, which, in turn, will create opportunities to increase the level of human development in Ukraine.

Bridging Sustainability and Inclusion: Financial Access in the Environmental, Social, and Governance Landscape

In this work, we examine the correlation between financial inclusion and the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors of sustainable development with the assistance of an exhaustive panel dataset of 103 emerging and developing economies spanning 2011 to 2022. The “Account Age” variable, standing for financial inclusion, is the share of adults owning accounts with formal financial institutions or with the providers of mobile money services, inclusive of both conventional and digital entry points. Methodologically, the article follows an econometric approach with panel data regressions, supplemented by Two-Stage Least Squares (2SLS) with instrumental variables in order to control endogeneity biases. ESG-specific instruments like climate resilience indicators and digital penetration measures are utilized for the purpose of robustness. As a companion approach, the paper follows machine learning techniques, applying a set of algorithms either for regression or for clustering for the purpose of detecting non-linearities and discerning ESG-inclusion typologies for the sample of countries. Results reflect that financial inclusion is, in the Environmental pillar, significantly associated with contemporary sustainability activity such as consumption of green energy, extent of protected area, and value added by agriculture, while reliance on traditional agriculture, measured by land use and value added by agriculture, decreases inclusion. For the Social pillar, expenditure on education, internet, sanitation, and gender equity are prominent inclusion facilitators, while engagement with the informal labor market exhibits a suppressing function. For the Governance pillar, anti-corruption activity and patent filing activity are inclusive, while diminishing regulatory quality, possibly by way of digital governance gaps, has a negative correlation. Policy implications are substantial: the research suggests that development dividends from a multi-dimensional approach can be had through enhancing financial inclusion. Policies that intersect financial access with upgrading the environment, social expenditure, and institutional reconstitution can simultaneously support sustainability targets. These are the most applicable lessons for the policy-makers and development professionals concerned with the attainment of the SDGs, specifically over the regions of the Global South, where the trinity of climate resilience, social fairness, and institutional renovation most significantly manifests.

Social Determinants of Health Protection in Russia: Challenges and Proposed Solutions

Background. The article studies health as a factor of human well-being, economic productivity, and national social development. Social issues of health protection affect life’s quality and longevity in Russia. Purpose. To analyze social health determinants and their effect on the Russian health protection system, detect key problems and focus on their possible solutions. The objectives of the study are analyzing current social issues of health protection, investigating the impact of inequality and economic conditions on population health, and considering the role of education and culture in health maintenance. Materials and methods. The article scrutinizes Russian regulatory acts on health protection, WHO research papers, studies of national and international authors, and social studies on health protection. The authors highlight the following: the concept of health in sociology, social and economic determinants of health, factors of health protection, innovations in healthcare, working conditions and labor protection, national healthcare policy, and improvement of social and economic factors of health protection. Normative target-based, statistical, comparative methods, and social and system-analytical analyses were used in this article. Results. Today, uneven resources, insufficient funding, and staff imbalance put a negative effect on the health protection system. The current healthcare policy needs to reform the organizational and economic mechanisms of the health protection system. Finance optimization, emphasis on primary care, healthy lifestyle promotion, and early disease detection are more productive than advanced case treatment.

Youth co-production for sustainable engagement and empowerment in health (YiPEE): protocol for a cluster-randomised controlled trial of an intervention for mental health promotion among adolescents in schools in Chennai, India

IntroductionAdolescence is a time of rapid physical, social and psychological development and many risk factors for mental disorders have their roots in this age period. Primary prevention through school platforms has been extensively used and evaluated, but many interventions have poor uptake, high dropout and limited long-term sustainability. Mental health is a complex phenomenon and may be best supported through multicomponent interventions that more holistically consider inner, social and environmental levels. Character education-focused interventions are effective for improving adolescent psychosocial functioning and mental well-being. Therefore, an intervention that focuses on developing these strengths and is delivered within a school environment, through an adolescent-informed approach using creativity-focused components, has the potential to improve adolescent mental health and well-being.Methods and analysisThis protocol describes the YiPEE cluster-randomised controlled trial with concurrent mixed-methods process evaluation and economic evaluation, which aims to determine the impact of a multilevel multicomponent intervention in schools in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Clusters—defined as schools which include Grades 6–8 (ages 11–16 years), will be randomised to intervention (n=15) or control (n=15). The intervention consists of: an 8-week classroom-based component, a 12-week teacher-focused component and a board comprising members from across the whole school. All children attending Grade 7 (aged 12–15) will be exposed to the classroom component, and teachers who actively teach Grade 7 will be invited to participate in the teacher component. Within schools, students for the individual-level evaluation will be included if they are: (1) aged 12–15 years; (2) currently attending Grade 7; (3) competent to give consent and (4) have a legal guardian competent of giving consent. We aim to sample a minimum of 100 students from each school (n=3000). All teachers of Grades 6–8 will be recruited for the evaluation. The primary outcome is symptoms of anxiety and depression measured using an abbreviated version of the UNICEF MMAPP tool. The primary analysis will be intention-to-treat, comparing the mean change in mental health score between baseline and endline, between intervention and control clusters. In addition, we will record school monitoring data (student attendance, student grades). Individual interviews with students and teachers, focus group discussions with school staff, and ethnographic observations will provide data for the process evaluation. For the economic evaluation, the combined direct and non-direct costs will be compared with changes in mental health in the intervention arm.Ethics and disseminationThe trial is approved by the Ethics Council of the Schizophrenia Research Foundation, India, with approval number EC/NEW/INST/2023/TN/0329. We plan to publish the main impact, process and economic evaluation results as academic publications in international peer-reviewed journals in 2026.Trial registration numberClinical Trials Registry—India (CTRI/2024/07/070949).

Influencing Factors of Social Capital Formation and Development in Urban Communities

With the rapid economic development in China, there has been an increasing emergence of new urban communities. However, these communities commonly exhibit a pattern of residents' indifference to community affairs, low sense of belonging and identity, and insufficient interpersonal communication, where neighborhoods are merely perceived as residential spaces after work hours. This phenomenon is primarily attributable to the deficiency in social capital within modern communities, characterized by weak human-to-human connections, limited community-individual linkages, and underdeveloped interpersonal networks. This study employs the grounded theory research methodology, conducting in-depth community fieldwork to analyze the influencing factors and mechanism processes affecting the formation and development of social capital in urban communities. The findings aim to offer theoretical and practical references for fostering social capital in community development.

The purpose of this article is to examine creativity as a driving force of innovative development and to reveal its influence on the formation of the intellectual and cultural-artistic potential of society in the context of Ukrainian scientific thought of the 21st century. The research methodology is based on an interdisciplinary approach to the study of creativity in Ukrainian scientific thought of the 21st century. The philosophical analysis of scientific thought allows for the integration of concepts into a broad cultural-artistic context. The psychological approach is grounded in theories of personal development through creativity. The semantic approach emphasises meaning and subjective experience, while also explaining how creativity extends beyond ordinary experience to create new opportunities for thought processes. The systemic approach structures existing perspectives on creativity as a driving force of innovative development, considering it as a factor influencing the formation of intellectual and cultural-artistic potential in society and enabling the forecasting of its development prospects. Scientific novelty. The novelty of this study lies in the analysis of Ukrainian scientific thought of the 21st century, where creativity is examined as a driving force of innovative development. The study reveals its impact on the formation of the intellectual and cultural-artistic potential of society and explores creativity as a key factor of social development. Creativity is considered from philosophical, psychological, and economic perspectives, with an emphasis on its role in generating new ideas, adapting to change, and driving innovation processes in the socio-cultural space of the first quarter of the 21st century. Conclusions. In the context of 21st century Ukrainian scientific thought, creativity emerges as a driving force in which intellect and imagination interact to generate not only new ideas and objects but also new ways of perceiving and understanding reality. Creativity, as a driving force of innovation in the formation of intellectual and cultural-artistic potential, has significant potential for transforming both individual and collective experience. It is an active process that can ensure the continuous evolution of values and perspectives and provide forming the basis for the development of new artistic forms. The article analyses various approaches to creativity as a categorical concept definition, its complicated essence, and its connection with freedom of mind, intuition, self-expression, and social mechanisms. Navigating Challenges: Opportunities for Holistic Growth in Varied Classrooms

Education involved in a holistic development is an intricate strategy, which focuses more on the development of students regarding their cognitions, feelings, interactions with others, physical health and spirituality. The objective in this method is to raise people who have breadth and shall not rely entirely on academic success alone to succeed in life. The strength of the holistic development is how it is a means of building students’ resilience, empathy and critical thinking as they transit into the plurality, complexity and openness of the modern world. For the holistic development to be understood, it needs to be recognized of the necessary elements of holistic development. The key to growing emotionally is maintaining mental health and controlling your emotions. Factors of social development are social dynamics, cooperation and communication. On a spiritual side, physical development ensures excellent health and fitness, whereas physical development develops a sense of purpose and connection. By allowing the organ to develop at a normal rate, you’re actually going to have higher social skills, emotional intelligence, academic achievement and general well being. Pupils are also more motivated to learn, more engaged, more able to manage their relationships and emotions, and better able to take on the challenge of life and learning. However, putting holistic development into practice is not trivial in many educational context. Disadvantaged schools can make resources available or less available due to inequities in socioeconomic benefits that may have impacts on student involvement as well as performance. For teachers, linguistic and cultural diversity entails language difficulties and biases, therefore they must be culturally competent. It is important to be accessible and inclusive because there is always special schooling requirements as well as physical and mental health issues in need of assistance. As the acceptance of technology is not the same across schools, technological disparity like, digital divide in urban as compared to rural schools, makes it more difficult to implement. Holistic development in education is important with a view to instilling children for the day. So if teachers reflect on the cognitive, emotional, social, physical and spiritual development, it will offer a more effective, inclusive and equitable educational system for all children.

Governance, Education, and Sustainable Development: A Comparative Analysis in Central and Eastern Europe

This study assessed the interplay between economic development, rule of law, social inequalities in education, and sustainable development in Central and Eastern European countries. Grounded in the theoretical background of sustainable development, this study examines how governmental efficiency, transparency, economic development, and social capital function as key drivers of SDG goals in CEE countries. The analysis draws on three theoretical models: the economic theory of sustainable development, institutional frameworks emphasizing good governance and sustainable development, and the role of social capital in shaping SDG dynamics. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the following research directions: i. the impact of economic development on the sustainable development index; ii. the relationship between the rule of law and the achievement of SDG goals; and iii. the relevance of social factors in sustainable development. Using a quantitative research design based on both linear and nonlinear regression models, we estimate that the interplay between governance and education is strongly related to an increased SDG index. These findings contribute to the growing body of literature on sustainable development, offering insights into the particularities of Central and Eastern European social and economic development. This study provides evidence for scholars and policy-makers interested in sustainable development, highlighting the importance of institutional transparency and education in enhancing social and economic development.

Developing mechanisms for ensuring public safety in a legal state remains one of the pressing problems of modern global security. The purpose of this study is to regulate public safety and establish a balance between the powers of state institutions and democratic principles. The relationship between governance and the rule of law in the process of ensuring security is a key task that is addressed differently at the international and national levels. The research is devoted to the formation of a legal model for ensuring public safety in a rule-of-law state. Public safety is viewed as a factor of stability and social development, while the harmony between legal norms and the effectiveness of state governance is crucial. The theoretical approaches of leading scientists in the field of public safety (Hans Kelzen, John Locke, Charles de Montesquieu, Carl Schmidt, Max Weber, Ronald Dvorkin, and Joseph Raze) were analyzed, and their practical significance was assessed. Legal, political, and institutional aspects of ensuring security were studied, and strategies based on international experience were proposed. Special attention was paid to the powers of state authorities in emergency situations and their limitations in the context of the modern concept of public safety. The evolution of the regulatory framework and recommendations of international organizations (UN, OSCE, Interpol) that made it possible to determine their role in ensuring security was also considered. Comparative legal analysis revealed the peculiarities of the security policy and legal regimes of different countries, as well as the criteria for effectiveness were developed. The results demonstrate the importance of democratic control, parliamentary and judicial oversight, and the application of modern technologies in the sustainable development of security policy. Measures to improve Uzbekistan’s public safety system were proposed: developing a public safety code, establishing clear legal criteria for regulating emergencies, strengthening international cooperation, and expanding civil society participation. The results provide a scientific and practical basis for eliminating shortcomings and improving legal mechanisms in this area.

FROM CONSTRUCTIVISM TO CULTURAL COGNITION: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF PIAGET, VYGOTSKY, AND TOMASELLO'S THEORIES OF COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT

This study explores the developmental theories of Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and Michael Tomasello, three seminal figures in the field of cognitive psychology. Piaget's theory of genetic epistemology emphasizes the biological stages of cognitive development, highlighting how children construct knowledge through active interaction with their environment. Vygotsky introduces a sociocultural perspective, asserting that cognitive development is fundamentally shaped by social interactions and cultural tools, particularly language. Tomasello builds upon these foundations by integrating comparative primate studies, proposing that shared intentionality and cultural learning are unique to human cognition. Through a comprehensive examination of their theories, this study compares and critiques their contributions, illuminating the evolution of developmental psychology from individualistic to more socially and culturally integrated models. The analysis underscores the significance of integrating biological, social, and cultural factors in understanding cognitive development. The conclusion reflects on the enduring impact of these theorists on contemporary psychology and suggests directions for future research that bridges their perspectives.

Financial literacy levels and their impact on the entrepreneurial aspirations of the inhabitants of the Velasco Riobamba parish - Ecuador

Financial literacy is a key factor for economic and social development, as it allows people to manage their resources efficiently and make informed decisions. In Ecuador, financial education levels are low compared to the regional average, which negatively impacts the entrepreneurial capacity of the population. In the Velasco parish of the Riobamba canton, Chimborazo province, this situation is reflected in the difficulty of the inhabitants to access adequate financial knowledge, which limits their aspirations and possibilities of entrepreneurship. This study aims to analyze the relationship between financial literacy and entrepreneurial aspirations in this community, using a mixed approach that combines quantitative and qualitative methods. Through surveys and interviews, the level of financial knowledge will be assessed and the factors that influence the economic decisions of the inhabitants will be identified. The research seeks to generate financial education strategies adapted to the local context, in order to strengthen entrepreneurial capacities and promote the economic development of the Velasco parish. The results obtained may serve as a basis for future interventions in financial education in rural areas of the country.

Education environment of a technical university as a factor of social and professional development of international students

Background. A key factor in foreign applicants' choice of Russian technical universities is a cutting-edge education environment. However, the potential of such an environment to provide strategic conditions for the social and professional development of international students is revealed insufficiently. Purpose. The authors aim to reveal the potential of the education environment of a Russian technical university for successful social and professional formation of international students. Materials and methods. The materials for this article are the works of Russian and foreign scientists, which analysis has provided the theoretical basis to study technical university education environment as a factor of social and professional formation of international students; to summarise knowledge about the stages of this process and appropriate pedagogical strategies. Results. Being a microsociety, the education environment of a technical university belongs to the external factors that determine the success of social and professional formation of international students in together with other external and internal factors. Its essential characteristics are communicative comfort and interactivity; dynamism and activity orientation; practice orientation and implementation of potential in a human being. The potentialities of such an environment are specified by pedagogical realities such as academic everyday life; integration into the industry-related professional community; individualisation, multiplication and intensification of interpersonal relations. These potentialities are implemented via pedagogical strategies of ‘enrichment’, ‘orientation’, ‘inclusion’ and ‘support’ at the stages of ‘academic adaptation’, ‘social integration’, and ‘individualisation of the further education trajectory, self-development and self-advancement’. Modeling of the methodology of formation of socio-ecological values of students in the process of teaching natural subjects

In the face of global environmental and social challenges, fostering socio-ecological values among the younger generation has become a key objective of education. The increasing frequency of natural disasters, resource depletion, and environmental degradation necessitates a reevaluation of educational approaches. Natural sciences serve as a crucial platform for instilling these values by enhancing students’ understanding of human-nature interactions and the role of social factors in sustainable development. This study aims to develop and model a methodology for cultivating socio-ecological values in students through natural science education. The research analyzes the educational activities and performance of 2,070 students in grades 8–11 from three schools: No. 45 of Osh State University (Bostandyk district), No. 42 (Auezov district), and No. 187 (Nauryzbai district). Special attention is given to the process of value formation within natural science curricula. The study’s findings offer practical significance for education, particularly in raising students’ awareness of sustainable development issues. The proposed methodology aims to prevent resource depletion while fostering environmentally responsible behavior and social accountability. The research’s novelty lies in its integrated approach, incorporating social and environmental aspects into natural science education. By considering cultural, ecological, and social factors, the proposed methods create conditions conducive to students' holistic development, enhancing their environmental consciousness and sense of responsibility.

Explicit vs. unconscious management of the language policy: conflicting ideologies and practices of Sindhi families in Karachi, Pakistan

ABSTRACT Family Language Policy (FLP) has primarily focused on transnational contexts in developing countries. However, South Asian countries, characterised by internal migration and exogamous marriages, have been limited in this research area. Using Spolsky’s ([Spolsky, B. 2004. Language Policy. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press]; [Spolsky, B. 2009. Language Management. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press]) theoretical model of FLP integrated with Curdt-Christiansen, Xiao Lan, and J. Huang. [2020. “Factors Influencing Family Language Policy.” In Handbook of Social and Affective Factors in Home Language Maintenance and Development, edited by A. Shalley and S. Eisenchlas, 174–193. De Gruyter Mouton], this qualitative study addresses this gap by exploring the language ideology, practices, and language management of three multilingual Sindhi families. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and participant observation tools and analysed using thematic analysis. The explicit ideological beliefs of multilingual Sindhi parents revealed that Urdu and English have instrumental value and are important for social mobility. Meanwhile, their implicit ideology promoting Sindhi was rooted in social, cultural and political phenomena. Language practices showed that Urdu and English were used for communication with children due to their prominence in the country’s language policy of the country, while Sindhi was mainly spoken with extended family members. Similarly, language management indicated that parents utilised resources for Urdu and English languages while unconscious planning by parents resulted in positive attitudes and motivation in children to maintain their heritage language. The present study highlights the complex FLP of multilingual Sindhi families, where parents balance and manage three languages.

Quantitative Assessment of the Water Stress in the Tigris–Euphrates River Basin Driven by Anthropogenic Impacts

Water stress has induced many environmental and developmental conflicts in the arid basins in the Middle East region under the context of climate change and increasing anthropogenic influence. Quantifying the anthropogenic influence on water stress at the basin scale is very challenging because of insufficient anthropogenic-related spatial data. Given that climate change is a global impact that is hard to mitigate at the basin scale, quantifying anthropogenic influence is practical to inform strategies for alleviating regional water stress. Thus, this study attempts to quantify the contribution of potential anthropogenic factors driving the water stress in the Tigris–Euphrates river basin (TERB) using pure spatial data. The water stress level in the studied basin was evaluated via the water stress index (WSI), which can be obtained as the ratio of water demand to water availability, from the Aqueduct 4.0 dataset. The driving contributions of social development (population, POP; fine particulate matter, PM2.5), economic development (gross domestic product, GDP; electricity consumption, EC), and landscape modification (urban expansion index, UEI; cultivated land expansion index, CEI) factors were quantitatively evaluated based on a spatial statistical geographical detector model (GDM). Assessment showed that nearly 66.13% of the TERB area was under severe water stress, particularly in Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Iran. The q statistic of the GDM, adopted to quantify the contribution of driving factors, revealed that CEI (0.174), EC (0.145), and GDP (0.123) were the dominant factors driving water stress. These individual influences were further enhanced particularly in the interaction between economic development and landscape modification factors such as UEI and CEI (0.566), PM2.5 and UEI (0.350), EC and CEI (0.346), GDP and CEI (0.323), and PM2.5 and GDP (0.312). The findings of this research can provide some beneficial references to alleviate the TERB’s water stress for its future sustainable development.

UNDERSTANDING PSYCHOSOCIAL MATURITY THROUGH DERMATOGLYPHICS: A QUANTITATIVE PERSPECTIVE

Transitioning from adolescence into adulthood, the youth have to face numerous challenges and navigate through adolescence and into their early 20s in order to do so they have to develop sufficient psychosocial maturity (PM) [5]. However, due to inadequate development during adolescence and early adulthood, the emotional and social aspects of maturity are not well understood [15].This study examines the correlation between a model of psychosocial maturity (PM) [6] and dermatoglyphic patterns. Thus, this study offers a new perspective on the dual role of genetic and environmental factors in the development of maturity [22]. The data was collected from university students, in the age group 18-25 over a three-month period. The factors considered for determining psychosocial maturity include, self-esteem, openness to change, independence, and social tolerance. Dermatoglyphic patterns of the subjects were examined to assess the correlation with these psychosocial traits. The study revealed a considerable correlation between PM and dermatoglyphic patterns. This predicted that the maturity of an individual may be based on genetic predisposition, yet, environmental factors play a much larger role in shaping it. These findings further contribute to the understanding of environmental and genetic factors in social and emotional development.
