Efficacy study of facial products enriched with probiotics/prebiotics & cannabinoids

With the increase in interest for natural innovative skin care products, an effort was made in our laboratory to study the beneficial effects of cannabinoids and prebiotics/probiotics on the skin. Through efficacy studies, the contribution of the specific active substances to improving the health and appearance of the skin was investigated. The present research offers important data creating new perspectives for the improvement of skin care with natural ingredients. The research was carried out on 13 healthy volunteers from the ages of 24 - 53. Two products (Cream and Serum) with the active substances under study and placebo ones were used. The cosmetic products were applied externally to the skin, twice a day for 30 days. The methods used were: a) self-assessment questionnaire, and b) non-intrusive biophysical parameters. Specifically, skin elasticity (Cutometer dual MPA 580), skin microtopography (Skin Visioscan VC 98), transepidermal water loss (MPA5-Tewameter) and hydration of the keratin layer (MPA5-Corneometer CM) were measured 825). Based on the findings, the main conclusions of the research are summarized, highlighting the effectiveness of the products in improving the quality of the skin.

Preparation of high antioxidant nanolignin and its application in cosmetics

Lignin, as a natural polyphenol, displays anti-oxidant activity by trapping and binding free radicals through its free phenolic hydroxyl groups. However, the most accessible form, industrial lignins, generally has low phenolic hydroxyl content, which severely limits their application value and scenarios. Herein, we showed that potassium-glycerate deep eutectic solvent (PG-DES) treatment can be combined with laccase oxidation to afford prepared high antioxidant lignin nanoparticles (HA-LNPs) with notably improved anti-oxidant activities benefiting from both the enhanced phenolic hydroxyl content 170.8 % and reduced average particle size (59.0 nm). At concentrations as low as 60 μg/mL, HA-LNPs showed favorable effects in promoting collagen formation. When HA-LNPs were used as an active ingredient in the anti-aging mask formulation, the reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging activity of mask samples containing 0.4 % HA-LNPs reached 37.2 %. The data suggest great promise of HA-LNPs as a natural antioxidant for formulating in anti-aging skin care products.

Formulation and Evaluation of Herbal Face Wash

This study presents the formulation and evaluation of a herbal face wash designed to meet the growing demand for natural and safe skincare products. The formulation process involved selecting a blend of herbal extracts known for their skin-friendly properties, along with appropriate surfactants, thickeners, and preservatives to ensure stability and efficacy. Physicochemical characteristics such as pH, viscosity, and foamability were evaluated to assess product quality. Additionally, sensory analysis was conducted to gauge user preferences regarding fragrance, texture, and overall experience. Microbiological tests were performed to confirm product safety. The results indicated that the formulated herbal face wash exhibited desirable properties, including balanced pH, suitable viscosity, and satisfactory foam formation. Sensory evaluations revealed positive consumer acceptance, with preferences for natural fragrance and smooth texture. Microbial studies confirmed the product's microbial safety for consumer use. Overall, the formulated herbal face wash offers a promising option for individuals seeking natural and effective skincare solutions

Evaluation of potential anti-aging effects of Achillea phrygia Boiss. & Balansa (Asteraceae)

This study aims to determine the anti-aging effects of Achillea phrygia, an endemic plant, by evaluating its sun protection factor (SPF) level, antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, extracellular matrix-degrading enzymes (ECM) inhibition, genotoxic/anti-genotoxic, and cytotoxic activities. The SPF level was assessed using an in vitro quantitative method, while antioxidant capacity was determined through DPPH, β-carotene, and hydroxyl-radical (H2O2) scavenging assays. The total phenolic content was quantitatively conducted using the Folin Ciocalteu reagent. The inhibition of ECM-degrading enzymes was determined using matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1), hyaluronidase, and elastase enzymes. Genotoxic/anti-genotoxic properties were assessed using the AMES Salmonella/microsome assay, and cytotoxicity effects were assessed through the MTT assay. The results indicated that A. phrygia showed moderate SPF activity (SPF = 4.013) and exhibited IC50 values of 0.183 ± 0.03, 0.079 ± 0.51, and 1.18 ± 0.35 mg/mL for DPPH, β-carotene, and hydroxyl-radicals, respectively. The total phenolic content was measured to be 23.56 ± 1.42 mg GAE/g dry extract. Furthermore, the extract demonstrated inhibition of MMP-1 (47.98%) and elastase (39.2%) activities. Importantly, it did not induce DNA damage and showed antigenotoxic activity ranging from 10% to 65.6%. The cytotoxicity assay revealed an IC50 value of 42.41±4.05 µg/mL. These findings suggest that A. phrygia could be utilized as a cosmetic ingredient in skincare products due to its ability to protect against UV radiation, exhibit antioxidant properties, prevent extracellular matrix degradation, and inhibit DNA damage.

Investigating e-WOM via TikTok Impact on Purchase Intention: Brand “S”

This journal investigates the impact of social media marketing, particularly on TikTok, on the purchase intention of skincare products among Indonesian young adults, with a focus on the case study of skincare brand "S". The research employs a descriptive causal approach and utilizes the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Information Adoption Model (IAM) as theoretical frameworks. The study explores the dimensions of information quality, quantity, credibility, and needs on TikTok, emphasizing its influence on consumer behavior. The findings of information quality, quantity, credibility, and needs indicate positive and significant relationships between these dimensions, highlighting the role of TikTok in shaping consumer decisions. But, information quantity indicates a negative relationship to purchase intention. Specifically, high-quality and credible information, along with addressing consumer needs, contribute to enhanced information usefulness, adoption, and ultimately purchase intention. The research underscores the strategic importance of skincare brands tailoring their TikTok marketing to deliver targeted, high-quality, and credible content that addresses specific consumer needs. Additionally, building and sustaining credibility on TikTok, particularly through authentic reviews, is crucial for fostering consumer trust. Overall, the study emphasizes a holistic approach for brands to maximize the impact of their digital marketing strategies on driving online sales and influencing purchase intentions.

Nano-Formulation Approaches to Enhance Transdermal Drug Delivery-An Updated Review of Nanovesicular Carrier "Transethosomes".

Transdermal drug delivery is an attractive and patient-friendly route for administering therapeutic agents. However, the skin's natural barrier, the stratum corneum, restricts the passage of many drugs, limiting their effectiveness. To overcome this challenge, researchers have developed various nanocarriers to enhance drug penetration through the skin. Transethosomes, a novel and promising drug delivery system, have emerged as an innovative solution for improving transdermal drug delivery. Transethosomes are a hybrid of two established nanocarriers: ethosomes and transfersomes. Ethosomes are lipid-based vesicles that can accommodate lipophilic and hydrophilic drugs, while transfersomes are deformable lipid vesicles designed to enhance skin penetration. Transethosomes combine the advantages of both systems, making them ideal candidates for efficient transdermal drug delivery. They are composed of phospholipids, ethanol, and water and exhibit high flexibility, enabling them to squeeze through the tight junctions of the stratum corneum. This abstract reviews the key characteristics of transethosomes, including their composition, preparation methods, mechanisms of action, characterization parameters, and prospects. Moreover, the recent advancements and applications of transethosomes in delivering various therapeutic agents, such as analgesics, anti-inflammatories, hormones, and skincare products, are explored. The enhanced skin penetration capabilities of transethosomes can potentially reduce systemic side effects and improve patient compliance, making them a valuable tool in the field of transdermal drug delivery. In conclusion, transethosomes represent a promising platform for overcoming the challenges of transdermal drug delivery. Their unique properties enable efficient drug permeation through the skin, offering a more controlled and effective means of administering a wide range of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. This abstract highlights the potential of transethosomes as a valuable addition to the field of transdermal drug delivery and paves the way for further research and development in this area.

Valorization of guabirobeira leaf extracts (Campomanesia xanthocarpa) through pressurized liquid extraction and aqueous infusion: assessment of phytochemical composition, antibacterial, and antioxidant activities

AbstractBACKGROUNDThe leaves of guabirobeira contain important phenolic and flavonoid compounds, known for their antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, antibacterial, and antinociceptive activities. The purpose of this work was to obtain extracts from guabirobeira leaves through aqueous infusion and pressurized liquid extraction with water, ethanol, and a combination of water–ethanol (ratio 1:1, v/v; PLE‐W:E). Subsequently, we used liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry to identify the chemical compounds, and to study the antioxidant activity in rat brain cells; thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) antibacterial activity against Gram‐negative and Gram‐positive bacteria were also seen.RESULTSAccording to the findings, all four extracts contained a significant amount of phytochemical compounds. Among them, the PLE‐W:E extract showed a higher concentration of flavonoids, demonstrating significant antioxidant activity in in vitro assays of TBARS and ROS in rat brain cells. It also exhibited antibacterial activity against both Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria.CONCLUSIONGuabirobeira leaf extracts hold promise as a potential source of bioactive compounds. These extracts can be applied across various sectors, including cosmetics and skincare products, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, natural preservatives, and functional materials. By exploring these potential applications, valuable contributions can be made to the field of sustainable chemistry and pharmacy, furthering the utilization of guabirobeira leaf extracts in diverse industries. Risk perception and use of personal care products by race and ethnicity among a diverse population.

Personal care products can contain phthalates, parabens and other endocrine-disrupting chemicals. However, information on perception of risks from personal care product use and how use varies by race and ethnicity is limited. We evaluated differences in personal care product use and risk perception in a diverse sample of participants recruited from a US college campus and online. A self-administered questionnaire captured information on sociodemographic factors, personal care product use trends and perception of risk associated with them. Pearson's chi-square and Fisher's exact tests were used to determine differences in personal care product use and risk perception by race and ethnicity. Ordered logistic regressions were performed to measure associations between personal care product use frequency across racial/ethnic categories. Participant (n = 770) mean age was 22.8 years [standard deviation ± 6.0]. Daily use of make-up (eye = 29.3%; other = 38.0%; all = 33.7%) and skincare products (55%) was most frequently reported among Middle Eastern and North African participants. Non-Hispanic Black participants reported the highest daily use of hairstyling products (52%) and lotion (78%). Daily make-up use was more frequently reported among females (41%) than males (24.6%). Levels of agreement were similar across racial and ethnic groups, that personal care product manufacturers should be required to list all ingredients (≥87%). There were significant associations between the frequency of use of some personal care products and racial/ethnic categories when the use frequencies of participants from other racial/ethnic categories were compared to the use frequency of non-Hispanic White participants. There were significant differences in daily use frequency, levels of trust, perception of safety and health risks associated with personal care products by race and ethnicity, underscoring that there may be different sources of exposure to chemicals in personal care products by race and ethnicity.

NADES-Based Extracts of Selected Medicinal Herbs as Promising Formulations for Cosmetic Usage

As a functional extraction medium, natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) can dissolve various plant metabolites. Those solvents provide untapped potential for creating novel green extracts with distinctive phytochemical signatures and unique biological activities. This is particularly relevant given the rising need for eco-friendly and sustainable skin care products. The main aim of this work was to optimize the most efficient natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) for extracting bioactives from 18 medicinal herbs applicable to the cosmetic industry. Selection of the most potent herbs involved assessing their conventional extracts for tyrosinase inhibition, antioxidant activity, and keratinocyte cytotoxicity. Moreover, we analyzed the phenolic profile using ultra-high-pressure liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (UHPLC/MS) and spectrophotometric assays such as total phenolic (TPC) and flavonoid content (TFC). Using the COSMO-RS method, we modeled the solubility of 12 phenolics in 64 virtual NADESs and selected the 7 most promising ones for further experimental validation. NADESs, including betaine-urea, betaine-proline, and betaine-lysine, were computationally chosen and demonstrated the highest levels of TPC and antioxidative capacity, as confirmed by in vitro assays. The proposed combination of NADES herbal extracts represents a promising natural constituent for the cosmetic industry.

Determinants of Purchase Intention of Skincare Products, Brand Image as Moderation On The Tiktok Platform

With the rapid development of Internet technology, many companies are now using the Internet as a major platform in their marketing strategy of skincare products, mainly through social media. The research aims to explore the factors that influence the intention of buying skincare products on the TikTok platform by considering the role of brand image as a moderation variable. The research method uses descriptive causality with a quantitative approach, and uses purposive sampling techniques. Primary data obtained from 267 respondents active TikTok users who were interested in skincare products and collected through online questionnaires. Data analysis is done using Structural Equation Modelling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). Research findings show that social media marketing activities, online customer reviews, influencer endorsement, brand image can improve purchase intention, while price consciousness does not affect the purchase intent of skincare products on Tiktok platform. Implications, skincare manufacturers and marketers should pay attention to branding strategies on TikTok's platform to boost purchasing intentions. Further research is suggested to explore other factors that can influence the intention of buying skincare products in the digital age.

Surface molecularly imprinted polymer/covalent organic framework/silica composite material with specific recognition ability and excellent chromatographic performance

Facing with the difficulty of specific chromatographic separation of nucleoside drugs, this study prepared a surface molecularly imprinted polymer (SMIP) modified covalent organic framework (COF) coated silica stationary phase based on the specificity of molecular imprinting technology and the powerful chromatographic separation performance of COF. This novel SMIP-COF@SiO2 stationary phase can not only specifically identify template molecule and structural analogs, but can also be used to separate multiple types of analytes, such as B vitamins, sulfonamides, alkylbenzenes, phenyl ketones, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and environmental endocrine disruptors, which satisfies the need for complex sample separation. Various retention mechanisms have been investigated and multiple interactions between the SMIP-COF@SiO2 stationary phase and the analytes are discovered. The chromatographic performance of SMIP-COF@SiO2 is far superior to that of the SMIP@SiO2 and COF@SiO2. Furthermore, the SMIP-COF@SiO2 stationary phase can be successfully used to analyze polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the environmental water sample and detect whitening ingredient in skincare product, indicating its great potential for application in various fields.

Analysis of Marketing Mix Implementation on Purchasing Decisions for Skintific Skincare Products (Survey of the Community in Jabodetabek)

This research investigates the impact of marketing mix implementation on purchasing decisions for Skintific Skincare Products among consumers in the Jabodetabek region. A quantitative research design was employed, surveying 200 respondents to gather insights into consumer preferences, brand perceptions, pricing influences, and marketing mix synergies. Results indicate that product quality and competitive pricing emerged as significant determinants of consumer satisfaction, brand loyalty, and purchase intention. Furthermore, correlations between marketing mix elements such as product quality, pricing, distribution channels, and promotional activities underscored their collective influence on consumer behavior and brand positioning. The findings offer strategic recommendations for Skintific to enhance market performance, sustain competitive advantage, and drive long-term success in the skincare industry.

New Insight into Utilization of Fish By-Product Proteins and Their Skin Health Promoting Effects.

In regions reliant on fisheries for livelihoods, a significant number of fish by-products are generated annually due to processing. These discarded parts contain valuable biological resources, such as proteins, fish oils, and trace elements, thus holding enormous potential for reutilization. In recent years, fish by-product proteins have been widely utilized in skincare products due to their rich collagen content, biosafety, and biocompatibility. This review summarizes the research into and applications of fish by-product proteins in skin health, including alleviating oxidative stress and skin inflammation, reducing DNA damage, mitigating melanin production, improving skin hydration, slowing skin matrix degradation, and promoting synthesis. Additionally, the possibility of improving skin health by improving the abundance of gut microbiota is also discussed. This review underscores the importance of fish by-product proteins in the fisheries, food processing, cosmetics, and biomedical industries.

Marketing strategy is an activity carried out by a company to increase sales by establishing good relationships with customers. Super Beauty's lack of interaction with customers has resulted in the products being marketed not being communicated clearly to consumers. This research uses a qualitative approach by collecting data through observation, interviews and documentation. The selection of research informants used a purposive sampling technique which was determined based on certain considerations. Based on the research results, it was concluded that: 1. Implementation of customer relations from company managers via WhatsApp Blast, Shopee live streaming, events (exhibitions), and the Web. Meanwhile, Super Beauty's marketing strategy utilizes price affordability, Affiliate, and member get member programs, 2. Factors driving the implementation of customer relations include: price affordability, and high demand for skincare needs. 3. Factors inhibiting the implementation of customer relations include time constraints, low company budgets, and market demands. According to research results, the implementation of customer relations via WhatsApp blast from various social media is considered very effective. So, consumers feel moved to repurchase skincare products.

Skin care habits of patients with eczema at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, Kiambu county, Kenya: A retrospective cross-sectional study

BackgroundThere is a dearth of data on eczema from the African continent despite the purported increasing burden. ObjectivesTo describe the prevalence of eczema at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital and patient skincare. MethodsA descriptive retrospective cross-sectional research design was used describing the period between 2016 and 2020. Data analysis was done using STATA Version 13. Geo spatial mapping of patient residence was also done. ResultsEczema was the most common skin condition diagnosed with a prevalence of 25.5%. Majority of the patients favoured the use of non-conventional products such as bar soap and milking jelly as routine skincare products. Geospatial mapping demonstrated a higher prevalence of eczema in the urban areas and also revealed access to a specialist as a contributor to health-seeking behaviour. LimitationsSubtypes of eczema were not described and this data only reflects one facility serving an entire county. ConclusionThe prevalence of eczema in KL5H mirrors the increasing global burden of eczema and that Kenya is not exempted from the affliction of eczema. Urban environments have a higher density of eczema in Kiambu. More research is needed to decipher the impact of the preferred non-conventional skin care products on eczema.

Synergistic enzyme assisted release of ferulic acid from brewer´s spent grain

Brewer’s spent grain (BSG), the most abundant by-product of the beer industry, can be considered a sustainable source of ferulic acid (4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamic acid) (FA). FA is esterified to the arabinoxylan in the BSG. FA exhibits a variety of biological activities and is a target for valorization of BSG. We present a novel enzyme-assisted approach that utilizes the synergistic action of a specific bacterial endo-1,4-β-xylanase and a fungal ferulic acid esterase activity to selectively release high yields of FA from BSG. The study compares the efficacy of three different fungal feruloyl esterases (E.C. 3.1.1.73) of carbohydrate esterase family 1 (CE1), HiFae, AoFae1, and AnFae1, acting separately or in combination with two different endo-1,4-β-xylanases (EC 3.2.1.8), a bacterial GH30 enzyme from Dickeya chrysanthemi, and Shearzyme®, a commercial GH10 enzyme from Aspergillus aculeatus, respectively. On an equimolar dosage basis, the AnFae1-GH30 was the most efficient combination in releasing FA from BSG. This combination showed significant synergy in a dose-dependent manner, enabling up to 85% FA recovery from BSG within 30 min. of treatment. The results demonstrate a novel enzymatic approach for valorization of BSG as FA is considered a high-value natural compound for use in e.g. anti-aging skin care products.

This research adopts a qualitative methodology with library research, which involves collecting information from various sources such as reference books, articles, notes and journals that are relevant to the problem being studied. The results of this research conclude that there are several main strategies carried out by somethinc, namely the use of advertising on somethinc's social media in the form of content. Furthermore, Somethinc also carried out an innovative strategy by holding a flash sale promo bundling package at a cheaper price than buying individual products. Not only that, somethinc also collaborates with influencers and makes local and foreign actors and actresses who have many fans as brand ambassadors. Finally, somethinc also provides platforms and marketing in various marketplaces such as Shoope, Tokopedia, Tiktok Shop, Zalora, Lazada, JD.ID, Blibli, and Bukalapak.
