The author arguments in favour of a textual approach to culture conflicts. Cultural conflicts are largely pre-formulated in discourses. Texts (as opposed to singular symbols or words) concatenate at least two propositions, which might be contradictory. Next point of discussion is the question whether there is any reality »behind« discourse on cultures and cultural conflicts. The author proposes a typology of three discursive approaches to cultures: dichotomic discourse, mestizaje discourse and antinomic discourse. Literary texts are particularly interesting as to the development of antinomic discourse.
