The Theory of State Emergence in Western Political Thought: Between Theoretical and Practical Rooting

Objectives:This study aimed at identify the state's emergence theories in Western political thoughts. Methods The study employs three interrelated approaches to examine the research problem. The approaches are historical, descriptive-analytical approach, and the structural-functional. Results: The study concluded with a set of results, the most important of which is although intellectual propositions and theories through which the pioneers of Western political thought presented to justify state's existence; however, this did not contribute to developing a single intellectual theory that would be agreed on by Western thinkers Conclusions: the study attempts to reveal whether theorizing the origin of the state in Western political thought contributes to developing a theory that provides an explanation of state's emergence. Meanwhile, the study sought to identifying the roots of state's concept, its constituent elements, and its functions. In the same context, it examines state's practical efforts, propositions, and intellectual theories through which Western thinkers tried to reach a clear interpretation of the idea of the state.

One in three or three in one: Integrating three competing theoretical models (TPB, VIP, and PADM) to explain the intentions to act/actions against climate change

This study examines multidimensional factors affecting climate change response behavior. It constructs an integrated model based on the theory of planned behavior, value–identity–personal norms model, and protective action decision model, as a single theory cannot capture the complex nature of human behavior. Recent studies have shown that integrating theories include various influencing factors and indicate higher explanatory power. Therefore, this study uses an integrated model to identify multidimensional influencing factors. The fit of the integrated model was confirmed to be excellent (Chi-square = 1271.866, p = .000, GFI = 0.930, NFI = 0.940, RMSEA = 0.060, TLI = 0.937, SRMR = 0.059), and identity exhibited the greatest effect on personal norms, followed by intention on behavior. The integrated model suggests the following path: ecological value → identity → personal norms → stakeholder awareness → intention → behavior and then ecological value → identity → perceived behavioral control → risk awareness → intention → behavior. The results of the integrated model suggest that a multifaceted approach is necessary to promote climate change response behavior. Various factors, such as ecological value, identity, personal norms, stakeholder awareness, perceived behavioral control, and risk awareness, interact and influence behavior. Policies and programs that comprehensively consider these factors should be established.

Dynamics of capital structure determinants: empirical evidence from GCC countries

AbstractThe study empirically examines the factors affecting the financing decisions of non-financial listed companies in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Using static and dynamic two-step generalized method of moments techniques, it analyzes unbalanced panel data from 364 non-financial companies across six GCC countries from 2011 to 2021. The findings partially support optimal capital structure theories, highlighting significant internal factors such as profitability, market-to-book ratio, firm size, earnings volatility, and growth opportunities that influence financing decisions. While no single theory fully explains the financing choices, the association of internal factors with book and market leverage is consistent. The study provides robust and generalizable results, aiding financial institutions and policymakers in formulating pro-development policies and regulations. This research facilitates better coordination between corporate managers and financial institutions, supporting the region’s economic transition. It is the first study to use extensive data from GCC non-financial firms to investigate financing decisions, offering valuable insights for investors and a basis for further analysis of capital structure choices in the region and beyond.

Enhanced Emitting Dipole Orientation Based on Asymmetric Iridium(III) Complexes for Efficient Saturated-Blue Phosphorescent OLEDs.

Three novel asymmetric Ir(III) complexes have been rationally designed to optimize their emitting dipole orientations (EDO) and enhance light outcoupling in blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), thereby boosting their external quantum efficiency (EQE). Bulky electron-donating groups (EDGs), namely: carbazole (Cz), di-tert-butyl carbazole (tBuCz), and phenoxazine (Pxz) are incorporated into the tridentate dicarbene pincer chelate to induce high degree of packing anisotropy, simultaneously enhancing their photophysical properties. Angle-dependent photoluminescence (ADPL) measurements indicate increased horizontal transition dipole ratios of 0.89 and 0.90 for the Ir(III) complexes Cz-dfppy-CN and tBuCz-dfppy-CN, respectively. Analysis of the single crystal structure and density functional theory (DFT) calculation results revealed an inherent correlation between molecular aspect ratio and EDO. Utilizing the newly obtained emitters, the blue OLED devices demonstrated exceptional performance, achieving a maximum EQE of 30.7% at a Commission International de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinate of (0.140, 0.148). Optical transfer matrix-based simulations confirmed a maximum outcoupling efficiency of 35% due to improved EDO. Finally, the tandem OLED and hyper-OLED devices exhibited a maximumEQE of 44.2% and 31.6%, respectively, together with good device stability. This rational molecular design provides straightforward guidelines to reach highly efficient and stable saturated blue emission.

Navigating uncertainty: configurations of entrepreneurial behaviors for new venture performance

Purpose The entrepreneurial process often cannot be explained by a single entrepreneurial theory. Instead, it is more likely the result of the interaction between various entrepreneurial behavior patterns and different environmental conditions. However, existing research has frequently overlooked the complexity inherent in the entrepreneurial phenomenon. Building on a configurational perspective, this study aims to examine how new ventures can use different behavioral configurations to achieve high performance amid various uncertain environments. Design/methodology/approach Based on the survey data from 143 new start-ups in China’s software industry, this study uses fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). Findings This study jointly considers multiple entrepreneurial behaviors − causation, effectuation and entrepreneurial bricolage and different types of environmental uncertainty − state uncertainty, effect uncertainty and response uncertainty. The findings reveal three behavioral configurations for high/nonhigh new venture performance. Originality/value This study expands previous insights into the relationship between entrepreneurial behaviors and new venture performance from the perspective of configurational theory. Moreover, it offers new insights into the types of uncertainty, further refining our understanding of the uncertainties inherent in entrepreneurial activities.

Impact of the Financial Advisor on Clients’ Financial Outcomes: An Integrative Model

A financial advisor may either act as a consultant or may be delegated the entire financial advising process. In both cases, researchers tend to conclude that advisorshavean impact on their clients’financial outcomes. However, there is no agreementon the nature and extent of this impact. We argue that such discordance in the results being reported in prior research arises from the different theoretical lens used to observe the phenomenon: agency theory, trust theory, and the concept of knowledge. In our view, the complexity of advisors’ contribution to their clients’ outcomes requires a novel approach that extends beyond a single theory. Relying upon aliterature review, we propose an integrative multi-theory model that reconciles prior findings and illustrates how financial advisers impact clients’ outcomes at each step within the financial advising process. Practice-grounded, the model also provides a causal mechanism clarifying the opaque and complex services provided by the financial advisor.

Fractional spins, unfolding, and holography. Part I. Parent field equations for dual higher-spin gravity reductions

In this work and in the companion paper arXiv:2403.02301, we initiate an approach to holography based on the AKSZ formalism. As the first step, we refine Vasiliev’s holography proposal in arXiv:1203.5554 by obtaining 4D higher-spin gravity (HSG) and 3D coloured conformal higher-spin gravity (CCHSG) — i.e., coloured conformal matter fields coupled to conformal higher-spin gauge fields and colour gauge fields — as two distinct and classically consistent reductions of a single parent theory. The latter consists, on-shell, of a flat superconnection valued in a fractional-spin extension of Vasiliev’s higher-spin algebra. The HSG and CCHSG reductions are characterized by dual structure groups and two-form cohomology elements, and their embedding in a common parent model provides a rationale for deriving holographic relations from multi-dimensional AKSZ partition functions on cylinders with dual boundary conditions, to appear separately. In this work we i) construct the underlying non-commutative geometry as a metaplectic operator algebra represented in a Hermitian module of a pair of conformal particles; ii) identify a discrete modular group, arising from twisted boundary conditions of the first-quantized system, and connecting different boundary conditions of the second-quantized system; and iii) identify the holonomies, structure groups and two-form cohomology elements that characterize the HSG and CCHSG reductions, and equate the dual second Chern classes.

Exploring Ground and Excited States Via Single Reference Coupled-Cluster Theory and Algebraic Geometry.

The exploration of the root structure of coupled cluster (CC) equations holds both foundational and practical significance for computational quantum chemistry. This study provides insight into the intricate root structures of these nonlinear equations at both the CCD and CCSD level of theory. We utilize computational techniques from algebraic geometry, specifically the monodromy and parametric homotopy continuation methods, to calculate the full solution set. We compare the computed CC roots against various established theoretical upper bounds, shedding light on the accuracy and efficiency of these bounds. We hereby focus on the dissociation processes of four-electron systems such as (H2)2 in both D2h and D∞h configurations, H4 symmetrically distorted on a circle, and lithium hydride. We moreover investigate the ability of single-reference CC solutions to approximate excited state energies. We find that multiple CC roots describe energies of excited states with high accuracy. Our investigations reveal that for systems like lithium hydride, CC not only provides high-accuracy approximations to several excited state energies but also to the states themselves.

Optimization in Visual Motion Estimation.

Sighted animals use visual signals to discern directional motion in their environment. Motion is not directly detected by visual neurons, and it must instead be computed from light signals that vary over space and time. This makes visual motion estimation a near universal neural computation, and decades of research have revealed much about the algorithms and mechanisms that generate directional signals. The idea that sensory systems are optimized for performance in natural environments has deeply impacted this research. In this article, we review the many ways that optimization has been used to quantitatively model visual motion estimation and reveal its underlying principles. We emphasize that no single optimization theory has dominated the literature. Instead, researchers have adeptly incorporated different computational demands and biological constraints that are pertinent to the specific brain system and animal model under study. The successes and failures of the resulting optimization models have thereby provided insights into how computational demands and biological constraints together shape neural computation.

REVIEW ON THE THEORY AND REVIEW OF CAPITAL STRUCTURING FOR DEVELOPING ECONOMY

Objective: Capital structure remains a central issue for appropriate considerations in corporate finance. This article examines the theory of capital structure, with the aim to summarise the empirical reviews related to theories. Method: The paper is based on theoretical reviews. The process discusses issues on capital structure and presents findings from different empirical papers test these theories on data. Because research on capital structure is broad, we narrow the scope to empirical issues based on recent evidence. We only take the results at face value and do not criticize the methods used in the papers. Result and Discussion: In trying to synthesize the theories with the empirical reviews, the result reveals that no single theory incorporates all important factors, capital structure puzzle remains. Also, the outcome of empirical evidence remains mixed. Implications: The survey on the theory and evidence on capital structure has important implication for the capital market since capital structure, itself offers the investors important snapshot into intrinsic objectives and behaviour of the corporate entity. Originality/Value: The note provides advance information to understand and analyse complex issues related to evidence on capital structuring. The relevance and value of the paper are evidenced by the fact that the review provides readers for background information on capital structuring in public or private firms. Recommendations: We recommend that future studies may examine alternative theories that were not reviewed in the paper. Researchers can further consider testing the models on countries’ data.

КРИТЕРИИ ЭФФЕКТИВНОСТИ ЛЕЧЕНИЯ ПАЦИЕНТОВ С МИОФАСЦИАЛЬНЫМ БОЛЕВЫМ СИНДРОМОМ ЖЕВАТЕЛЬНОЙ МУСКУЛАТУРЫ

There are quite a lot of predictor factors for the development of myofascial pain syndrome of the chewing muscles. At the moment, there is no single pathogenetic theory of the development of this pathology. Accordingly, uniform criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of the therapy have not been developed, which was the purpose of this study. The aim of the study is to develop and implement criteria for the effectiveness of treatment of patients with myofascial masticatory muscle pain syndrome. Materials and methods. 45 people with myofascial masticatory muscle pain syndrome were examined and treated. Screening diagnostics of 30 conditionally healthy people was carried out to obtain control values. The study was conducted in three stages – assessment of stress levels according to the data of filling out a questionnaire on the level of susceptibility to stress, clinical examination – determination of qualitative and quantitative criteria, ultrasound and electromyographic examination. Relief of myofascial pain syndrome of the masticatory muscles was performed by injections of botulinum toxin type A into the masticatory and temporal muscles. The dynamics was assessed at the time of 14 days and 1 month. Results. The developed criteria clearly reflect the effectiveness of the therapy. Statistically significant results of the effectiveness of treatment have been obtained, allowing timely optimal therapy and preventing the development of chronic disorders of the temporomandibular joint. Understanding the combined influence of the psychoemotional state and somatic factors led to the development of uniform criteria for the effectiveness of treatment of this category of patients. The analysis and dynamics of changes in qualitative and quantitative indicators reflect the current trend towards the development of minimally invasive approaches to diagnosis and treatment based on the principles of biofeedback, which prevent the chronization of the process and the development of temporomandibular joint dysfunction.

Boundary condition and reflection anomaly in $2+1$ dimensions

It is known that the 2+12+1d single Majorana fermion theory has an anomaly of the reflection, which is canceled out when 16 copies of the theory are combined. Therefore, it is expected that the reflection symmetric boundary condition is impossible for one Majorana fermion, but possible for 16 Majorana fermions. In this paper, we consider a reflection symmetric boundary condition that varies at a single point, and find that there is a problem with one Majorana fermion. The problem is the absence of a corresponding outgoing wave to a specific incoming wave into the boundary, which leads to the non-conservation of the energy. For 16 Majorana fermions, it is possible to connect every incoming wave to an outgoing wave without breaking the reflection symmetry. In addition, we discuss the connection with the fermion-monopole scattering in 3+13+1 dimensions.

Microscopic instabilities in single crystal matrix composites

A finite strain micromechanical analysis is presented for the prediction of the loss of microscopic stability of a class of metal matrix composites that are subjected to axial compressive loading and undergoing large deformations. The metallic constituent behavior is modeled by the single crystal anisotropic plasticity theory in which, due to the resolved shear stresses, plastic deformations occur along certain pre-defined slip planes. Thus, this incremental plasticity theory is capable of providing the effect of the applied axial loading on the induced shear stresses which dominate the microbuckling. The composites are assumed to possess slight imperfections at the interfaces, and in order to satisfy the interfacial conditions, a perturbation expansion is employed which yields zero and first order micromechanical analysis problems. The zero order problem corresponds to the micromechanical modeling of the composite with no imperfections, whereas the solution of the first order problem is utilized to obtain the critical stresses and deformations at which bifurcation buckling occurs. Both problems are solved by employing the finite strain high-fidelity generalized method of cells (HFGMC) micromechanics. Applications are given for various types of single crystal matrix composites including layered, particulate, continuous and short fiber composites. Finally, a comparison between the compressive strengths of a standard metal matrix boron/aluminum and SiC/single crystal composites is presented and discussed.

Vibrational properties of monoclinic CoTeO4

The vibrational properties of monoclinic dirutile-type CoTeO4 (space group P21/c) were investigated by means of Raman and infrared (IR) spectroscopy on stoichiometric single crystals and theoretical density-functional theory (DFT) calculations. Experimental investigations under pressure and temperature variations up to 10.1 GPa and 750 K confirmed the singular phase stability of the monoclinic lattice and the absence of any structural transition. The IR spectra exhibit modes that are not observed in the Raman spectra, thus offering a comprehensive understanding of the vibrational behavior of the title compound. The symmetry and degeneracy of modes and their contributions to the overall vibrational spectrum of CoTeO4 were analyzed using group theory. DFT calculations were performed both on a cluster level and based on the crystal structure of monoclinic CoTeO4 in order to gain further insights into the vibrational properties. The calculated vibrational frequencies and modes were compared with the experimental data, allowing for a detailed investigation of the lattice dynamics and the nature of the vibrational modes in CoTeO4, and are corroborated with the analytical Wilson's F-G matrix method. These findings provide fundamental insights into the crystal symmetry and lattice dynamics of CoTeO4. The results are discussed and compared to those of isoformular systems. Statistics of Lyapunov exponent in random Fibonacci multilayer

Abstract We numerically investigated the localization properties of band-gap and band-edge modes in a one-dimensional random Fibonacci optical multilayer. The statistics of the Lyapunov Exponent (LE) reveal distinct behaviors of localization effects for band-edge and band-gap modes as a function of disorder strength. In particular, a deviation from the single parameter scaling theory (SPST) of localization was observed within a frequency window corresponding to the band-gap of an ordered Fibonacci multilayer. To provide a physical explanation for the violation of SPST, a close correlation between the frequency distribution of the resonant modes in the band-gap and the variance of the LE has been found. The spatial distribution of resonant modes has been reported and discussed. Finally, the dynamics of the gap closing of the two main band-gaps as a function of the disorder strength has been analyzed.

Sequence of Molecular Events in the Development of Alzheimer's Disease: Cascade Interactions from Beta-Amyloid to Other Involved Proteins.

Alzheimer's disease is the primary neurodegenerative disease affecting the elderly population. Despite the first description of its pathology over a century ago, its precise cause and molecular mechanism remain unknown. Numerous factors, including beta-amyloid, tau protein, the APOEε4 gene, and different metals, have been extensively investigated in relation to this disease. However, none of them have been proven to have a decisive causal relationship. Furthermore, no single theory has successfully integrated these puzzle pieces thus far. In this review article, we propose the most probable molecular mechanism for AD, which clearly shows the relationship between the main aspects of the disease, and addresses fundamental questions such as: Why is aging the major risk factor for the disease? Are amyloid plaques and tau tangles the causes or consequences of AD? Why are the distributions of senile plaques and tau tangles in the brain different and independent of each other? Why is the APOEε4 gene a risk factor for AD? Finally, why is the disease more prevalent in women?

Sharing or Hiding? Exploring the Influence of Social Cognition and Emotion on Employee Knowledge Behaviors within Enterprise Social Media.

As emerging knowledge management platforms, enterprise social media (ESM) provide an important way for employees to engage in knowledge sharing and information communication within their organization. However, the question of how to encourage employees to engage in continuous knowledge sharing rather than knowledge hiding on ESM has not received sufficient attention from scholars. In contrast to previous studies that focused on a single theory perspective and a single knowledge behavior, in this study, we took a user cognition and emotion perspective and constructed a mechanism model for the impact of knowledge sharing and knowledge hiding among employees on ESM based on social cognition theory and emotion as social information theory. A total of 240 valid questionnaires were collected and used to empirically test the model. The results indicate that reciprocity and outcome expectancy have a significant positive effect on employees' knowledge-sharing behavior, while reciprocity and trust have a significant negative effect on employees' knowledge-hiding behavior. Positive emotions play a positive (enhancing) moderating role on the path between outcome expectancy and knowledge-sharing behavior, while negative emotions play a negative (weakening) moderating role on the path between reciprocity and knowledge-hiding behavior, as well as between trust and knowledge-hiding behavior. By incorporating employee emotions into the framework of social cognition's impact on employee knowledge behavior, this study enriches theories related to enterprise social media, knowledge management, and user behaviors. Our research findings have practical implications for guiding employees to engage in positive knowledge sharing and reducing knowledge hiding on enterprise social media.

Mathematical simulation of ionospheric plasma diagnostics by electric current measurements using an insulated probe system

The goal of this work is to theoretically substantiate the possibility of determining the charged particle density in the ionospheric plasma by separately measuring the electric currents of an insulated probe system in the electron saturation region. The ionospheric plasma composition is modeled by two ion species with significantly different masses and electrons to keep the plasma quasi-neutrality. The probe system, which is electrically insulated from the spacecraft structure, consists of cylindrical electrodes: a probe and a reference electrode. The reference electrode to probe current-collecting area ratio can be significantly less than required by the single cylindrical probe theory. The electrodes are oriented transversely to a supersonic flow of a collisionless plasma. In addition to the main plasma with two ion species, a model plasma with a single ion species is considered. The mass of the model ions is such that the ion saturation current to the cylinder is the same for both plasma models. Based on a previously obtained asymptotic solution for the electron saturation current in a plasma with a single ion species, computational formulas are found for determining the ion mass composition and the electron density by probe current measurements. The errors of the formulas are estimated numerically and analytically as a function of the probe system geometry, the bias potential of the probe relative to the reference electrode, and the accuracy of potential and current measurements. It is shown that a proper choice of the probe system settings and the accuracy of probe measurements assures a reliable determination of the charged particle densities in a plasma with two ion species. A priori estimates are presented for the effect of the current bias potential measurement errors on the reliability of determining the ion mass composition and the electron density of the ionospheric plasma.

Extant Literature Review on Understanding of Domestic Violence against Women in Rural Sindh, Pakistan

This paper presents detailed critiques of existing literature and debate on crucial issues of domestic violence against women in Rural Sindh, Pakistan. Primarily, definitions, causes, consequences, and prevention of domestic violence, as well as sociological and feminist theoretical framework perspectives, are discussed profoundly. Discussions and analyses of past materials, meanings, nature, and scope of studies on domestic violence worldwide and in Sindh, Pakistan, backgrounds are discussed. Patriarchy, masculinity, and their relation to domestic violence are briefly elaborated. The international perspective on domestic violence, ideology and concept of patriarchy, men and masculinity connecting to the situations of marriage, gender relations, roles, legal and religious perspective in Pakistan about domestic violence in Sindh, and previously reported incidence is also reviewed. Likewise, relevant literature and its review on the topic of past studies, connecting with the present study, have also been established with relevant theories, which have overlapping effects on domestic violence. Literature review sections of papers define that there is not any single theory or reason; rather, there are multiple socio-economic, psychological, and feminist viewpoints which allow perpetrators to commit domestic violence against women in rural Sindh, Pakistan.

Holography of a single free matrix

In this paper we consider the collective field theory description of a single free massless scalar matrix theory in 2+1 dimensions. The collective fields are given by k-local operators obtained by tracing a product of k-matrices. For k = 2 and k = 3 we argue that the collective field packages the fields associated to a single and two Regge trajectories respectively. We also determine the coordinate transformation between the coordinates of the collective field theory and the bulk AdS space time. This is used to verify that the bulk equations of motion holds in the collective field theory description.
