Steiner cephalometric analysis in orthognathic surgery patients treated at Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung

Objective: Orthognathic surgery is surgery on abnormalities of dentofacial that occur in the maxilla, mandible, or both. Determine measurement of the type of dentoskeletal abnormality in malocclusion using cephalometric analysis. Steiner analysis is used because it is considered that the Sela tursica-nasion-point A (SNA) angle, Sela tursica-nasion-point B (SNB) used to describe the relationship between the maxilla and the mandible. Material and Methods: The study involved 30 patients who underwent orthognathic surgery between April 2017 and April 2022 at Hasan Sadikin Hospital Bandung. Cephalometric radiography was utilized for assessment, employing the Steiner method to analyze various angles. Patient characteristics, including gender and age, were also observed. Parameters such as the average angle of SNA, SNB, and ANB were examined, alongside diagnoses, the number of corrected jaws, and the type of orthognathic surgery. Results: The findings indicated a predominance of male orthognathic surgery patients (63.3%), with the majority falling within the age range of 19 to 20 years (40%). Grade III malocclusion was the most prevalent diagnosis (96.7%), with double jaw correction being the most common procedure performed (90%). Bilateral sagittal split osteotomy was utilized in 93% of cases, followed by Le Fort I osteotomy in 96.7% of cases and chinplasty in 16.7% of patients. The average SNA, SNB and ANB was 83.8o, 90.6o, and -6.8o, respectively. Conclusion: The findings indicated a higher frequency of orthognathic surgery among patients diagnosed with class III malocclusion. Additionally, a notable proportion of patients underwent simultaneous orthognathic surgery on both the maxilla and mandible.

Effectiveness of hemocoagulase, tranexamic acid, and their combination for reducing blood loss in bimaxillary orthognathic surgery: a retrospective study.

Orthognathic surgery is a corrective intervention for maxillofacial deformities. Bleeding is a major concern for oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Various agents, such as hemocoagulase, tranexamic acid, and aprotinin have been developed to reduce intraoperative bleeding and transfusion requirements. Therefore, in this study we aimed to investigate the effects of hemocoagulase and tranexamic acid, as well as their simultaneous use, to reduce bleeding during orthognathic surgery. Patients and. This retrospective study included patients who had undergone simultaneous orthognathic surgery of the maxilla and mandible between January 2013 and September 2022 and were classified into three groups based on drugs administered: hemocoagulase (Botropase), tranexamic acid, and a combination of both drugs. We recorded patient age, sex, weight, blood loss, and duration of surgery. Red blood cell (RBC), hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelet levels were measured before, immediately after, and one day after surgery. No statistically significant differences were found in blood loss, RBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit, or platelet levels between any of the groups. There were no differences in the drug effects between Le Fort I and bilateral mandibular sagittal split osteotomies, with or without double genioplasty. However, there were significant reductions in RBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelet levels during genioplasty. Tranexamic acid, hemocoagulase, and their combination had similar efficacy in patients who underwent Le Fort Ⅰ and bilateral mandibular sagittal split osteotomies with and without genioplasty.

Simultaneous PSI-Based Orthognathic and PEEK Bone Augmentation Surgery Leads to Improved Symmetric Facial Appearance in Craniofacial Malformations.

(1) The aim of the present study was to compare the outcome of facial symmetry after simultaneous digitally planned patient-specific implant (PSI-) based orthognathic surgery and polyether ether ketone (PEEK) bone augmentation in patients with craniofacial malformations. (2) To evaluate the outcome of the two different surgical approaches (conventional PSI-based orthognathic surgery versus simultaneous PSI-based orthognathic surgery with PEEK bone augmentation), a comparison of five different groups with a combination of the parameters (A) with vs. without laterognathia, (B) syndromic vs. non-syndromic, and (C) surgery with vs. without PEEK bone augmentation was conducted. The digital workflow comprised cone beam CT (CBCT) scans and virtual surgery planning for all patients in order to produce patient specific cutting guides and osteosynthesis plates. Additionally, deformed skulls were superimposed by a non-deformed skull and/or the healthy side was mirrored to produce PSI PEEK implants for augmentation. Retrospective analyses included posterior–anterior conventional radiographs as well as en face photographs taken before and nine months after surgery. (3) Simultaneous orthognathic surgery with PEEK bone augmentation significantly improves facial symmetry compared to conventional orthognathic surgery (6.5%P (3.2–9.8%P) (p = 0.001). (4) PSI-based orthognathic surgery led to improved horizontal bone alignment in all patients. Simultaneous PEEK bone augmentation enhanced facial symmetry even in patients with syndrome-related underdevelopment of both soft and hard tissues.

Lateral Pterygoid Muscle Ossification After Intraoral Condylectomy.

Lateral pterygoid muscle ossification has not been reported in condylectomy patients. This study aimed to explore the incidence, risk factors, and imaging characteristics of 38 cases with lateral pterygoid muscle ossification among 54 patients after condylectomy via intraoral approach. This retrospective study included 54 patients following simultaneous orthognathic surgery and condylectomy with coronoid process resection via intraoral approach. The authors evaluated the preoperative, 1 week, 6 months, and 1 year or more postoperative computed tomographic (CT) scans for the presence of lateral pterygoid muscle ossification and its characteristics. Sex, age at the time of surgery, disease course, affected side, preoperative alkaline phosphatase, pathology diagnosis, the height of the removed condyle, condylar shape, operator, preoperative temporomandibular joint movement, and clinical symptoms were assessed as risk factors for ossification. No incidence of lateral pterygoid muscle ossification was found on preoperative CT images. Various small-size osseous masses were observed in the lateral pterygoid muscles on postoperative 6 months CT images in 38/54 patients (70.37%) after condylectomy. But no apparent enlargement of the osseous masses was found. No patients complained of clinical discomfort or functional disorder during the follow-up period (23.11 ± 13.16 months). No significant risk factors for ossification were found. Lateral pterygoid muscle ossification is relatively common in patients after condylectomy via intraoral approach. However, its enlargement is self-limited and remains stable 6 months after surgery. it has no adverse effects on the temporomandibular joint functional movement.

Simultaneous Management of Condylar Osteochondroma and Secondary Malformation With a New Intraoral Approach.

The present study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of simultaneous management of condylar osteochondroma and its secondary dentofacial deformities using an intraoral surgical approach. Six patients with condylar osteochondroma were treated with intraoral vertical ramus osteotomies and condylar resection. The free rising branch was used for reconstructing the temporomandibular joint. The simultaneous orthognathic surgery and plastic surgery were performed sequentially to correct the secondary dentofacial deformities. The indexes of aesthetic symmetry, occlusion relationship, temporomandibular joint function, condylar height, and volume change were assessed in the subsequential follow up. The mean follow up period was 31 months. All patients had no tumor recurrence. The ipsilateral joint function, occlusal relationship, and facial symmetry were satisfied. The ipsilateral condylar reconstruction had no obvious bone resorption and the ramus height was maintained well. Postoperative assessment showed the preoperative design was accurately fulfilled. The simultaneous condylar osteochondroma resection and temporomandibular joint reconstruction using intraoral approach avoids extraoral scars and correct facial asymmetry without compromising the long-term joint function and occlusal relationship.

Simultaneous Orthognathic Surgery With Asian Double Eyelid Suture Blepharoplasty.

The main objective of contemporary orthognathic surgery is to correct dentofacial deformities. Nonetheless, many adjunct procedures to enhance the esthetic outcome in orthognathic surgical cases have been successfully incorporated to improve patient satisfaction. The authors report our preliminary experience of performing simultaneous orthognathic surgery with Asian double eyelid suture method blepharoplasty in the same surgical setting. This case series report includes all 19 consecutive cases presenting to the Chang Gung Craniofacial Center for combined orthognathic surgery with Asian double eyelid suture method blepharoplasty. The double eyelid crease height was measured as the vertical line between the upper eyelid margin (eyelid lash) and the upper eyelid crease, observed at the mid-pupillary line with the eyes in primary gaze. There were no complications or relapse reported within this time period. There was significant improvement in the left and right mid-pupillary double eyelid crease height postsurgery. There were no statistically significant differences between the left and right mid-pupillary double eyelid crease heights after surgery indicating good eyelid crease height symmetry bilaterally was obtained. Orthognathic surgery combined with suture method blepharoplasty can be safely performed in the same surgical setting without inappropriate rise in costs or operating room time. This case series demonstrates that excellent esthetic results can be obtained in simultaneous bimaxillary orthognathic surgery with suture method Asian blepharoplasty.

Treatment measures of hemimandibular hyperplasia and associated facial deformities

This study aims to show our institute’s experience in the treatment of HH and its associated facial deformities in adults and growing adolescents and to investigate condylar remodeling and volumetric changes and long-term stability of orthognathic surgery in adults.The study included consecutive patients with clinical and radiological features of HH who underwent high condylectomy with or without simultaneous orthognathic surgery from 2013 to 2018. The clinical outcomes were assessed based on functional activities, TMJ pain, and recurrence. Postoperative 3D condylar remodeling and orthognathic stability were evaluated with the use of ITK-Snap and 3D Slicer.Thirteen patients (8 females and 5 males) with a mean age of 26.3 ± 5.79 years (range; 13–34 years) were included with facial asymmetry as the chief complaint. The patients were followed up for a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 4 years (mean; 16.85 ± 10.04). There were no postoperative complications, and all patients achieved a satisfactory functional and aesthetic outcome using a one-stage surgical procedure. There was no incidence of recurrence or further asymmetries, with long-term stability at the selected points showing a mean difference of less than ±1 mm. The affected condylar volume was significantly reduced following high condylectomy, with mean changes between T1 and T2 of −144. 80 mm3 (p = .012). However, the contralateral condylar volume remained stable, with a mean change of 2.54 mm3 (p = .881).One-stage high condylectomy and orthognathic surgery is a viable measure for the treatment of HH and associated deformities in adults. High condylectomy in early adolescence could result in termination of the disease, and aesthetic improvement with further constant orthodontist-surgeon follow-up is required.

Total Temporomandibular Joint Replacement and Simultaneous Orthognathic Surgery Using Computer-Assisted Surgery.

Disorders of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are frequent and are usually associated with other disorders of the facial skeleton. Surgery might be needed to correct TMJ anatomy and function and, in cases where pathologies coexist, a two-stage corrective surgery might be needed. However, the current fashion of single-stage procedures is feasible with the aid of new technologies such as computer-assisted surgery (CAS). This is a step forward toward performing complex procedures such as a TMJ replacement with simultaneous orthognathic surgery. CAS allows designing patient-fitted prosthesis and more predictable and accurate surgeries. Moreover, intraoperative development can be controlled in real time with intraoperative navigation, and postoperative results can be measured and compared afterwards. The primary purpose of this article is to present the protocol used in our institution for orthognathic surgery associated with unilateral and bilateral TMJ replacement with patient-fitted prostheses guided with CAS. We present two cases to illustrate our protocol and its results. In the first case, the difference in millimeters between planning and surgical outcomes was 1.72 mm for the glenoid component and 2.16 mm for the condylar prosthesis; for the second case, differences in the right side were 2.59 mm for the glenoid component and 2.06 mm for the ramus, and in the left side, due to the anatomy the difference was a little greater, without clinical significance. Combined surgery of the midface and mandible with total TMJ replacement is feasible and beneficial for the patient. CAS facilitates the planning and design of custom-fit prosthesis and execution of these procedures.

Osteochondroma of the mandibular condyle: an algorithm for treatment

Purpose Osteochondroma (OC) or osteocartilaginous exostosis is considered to be the most common benign tumor of the axial skeleton; however, due to its endochondral origin, this pathology is rarely seen in the maxillofacial skeleton aside in the head of the mandibular condyle.1,2 Condylar OCs can lead to various structural and functional disturbances which include facial asymmetries, malocclusion, prognathic deviation of chin, crossbite of the contralateral side, mouth opening disturbances, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunctions, and hearing loss, and pain in some cases.2-8 The types of surgical treatments for osteochondroma vary from resection without reconstruction (low-condylectomy), resection (total condylectomy) with TMJ reconstruction (autogenous/alloplastic), combined surgery, including orthognathic correction and low-condylectomy or TMJ reconstruction. Although previous studies have reviewed various modes of treatments and have supported the efficacy of each of them, none address the indications of such treatments in an algorithmic fashion. In this study, we reviewed a series of cases which were surgically treated and proposed a treatment algorithm based on initial presentation, age, location of the mass, morphology of the mass, and the degree of dentofacial deformity created. Methods We reviewed a total of 6 patients with a mean age of 33.6 years at the time of surgery. Three of those 6 patients presented as a pedunculated condylar mass located on the superior surface of the condyle, resulting in mild occlusal discrepancies and facial asymmetry. Two of these patients were treated successfully with proportional condylectomy and postoperative orthodontic correction of dental malocclusion with stable results. No orthognathic surgery was required until the last follow-up. The third patient elected not to undergo postoperative orthodontic correction of persistent malocclusion due to financial reasons but had no sign of recurrence with stable functional mild malocclusion. One of the 6 patients presented with superior located condylar mass, which was slightly larger in size, with significant cant of the maxilla and the mandible. This patient underwent a low condylectomy with simultaneous orthognathic surgery. The final 2 patients presented with a significantly larger mass, with medial extension toward the cranial base. One of these patients had preoperative facial dysesthesia, presumed to be due to impingement on cranial nerve V. These patients were both treated with complete condylectomy and total joint replacement due to size of the mass, patient age, and medial extension and location of the mass on the condyle. Results All 6 patients who received treatment at Virginia Commonwealth University by the same surgeon from years 2015–2019 were found to show no sign of tumor recurrence at their most recent follow-up (mean follow-up length 10.8 months; range 3–30 months). Conclusions Based upon these surgical outcomes, we propose the algorithm shown in Figure 2, which can help guide practitioners in choosing the correct surgical procedure based upon preoperative clinical and radiographic findings.

Evaluation of Mandibular Symmetry in Patients With Condylar Osteochondroma Who Underwent Intro-Oral Condylar Resection and Simultaneous Bimaxillary Orthognathic Surgery.

Mandibular condylar osteochondroma (OC) can result in facial asymmetry, malocclusion, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction. The authors have previously demonstrated a novel method for conservative condylectomy and simultaneous orthognathic surgery for treatment of mandibular condylar OC. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the immediate improvement and long-term stability of mandibular symmetry in the treatment of condylar OC. Fifty-six patients with unilateral mandibular condylar OC combined with secondary facial asymmetry and malocclusion were enrolled in this retrospective study. The computerized tomography (CT) scans were acquired with the mandible in centric relation (CR) before surgery, 1 week and 12 to 18 months after surgery. The images were reconstructed and processed for the analysis with ProPlan CMF 2.1 software. After defining the skeletal landmarks and the reference planes, the chin deviation, chin rotation and mandibular asymmetry index were calculated. The operations and healing were uneventful and the patients showed no signs of recurrence or temporomandibular joint ankylosis during the follow-up. Facial symmetry was greatly improved right after the surgery in the chin deviation (from 9.2 to 1.7 mm, P < 0.01), chin rotation (from 11.2 to 2.3, P < 0.01) and the asymmetry index of three mandibular landmarks (Go, MF and Sg, all P < 0.01). It also showed a stable result after 12 to 18 months follow-up. We also established a novel measurement method, which showed that the combination of conservative condylectomy via the intraoral approach based on intraoperative navigation and simultaneous orthognathic surgery is effective for improving the facial symmetry when treat the mandibular condylar OC.

Simultaneous Orthognathic Surgery and Mandibular Contour Osteoplasty for Treating Mandibular Protrusion With High Gonial Angle.

The purpose of this study was to confirm the effectiveness and feasibility of simultaneous orthognathic surgery and mandibular contour osteoplasty with the help of the accurate surgical templates to treat mandibular protrusion with high gonial angle. Ten patients diagnosed as mandibular protrusion with high gonial angle were included in this study. Besides the traditional orthognathic surgery, mandibular contour osteoplasty was performed simultaneously. Models of the mandible were fabricated via 3D printing technology. Accurate surgical templates were produced on the 3D printing model according to preoperative design. Radiographs and medical photographs preoperatively and postoperatively were taken to compare the effectiveness of the operation. Measurement items include gonial angle (Ar-Go-Me), midlines of maxilla and mandible. The clinical manifestation of the temporomandibular joint and condylar process were observed. Radiographs and photographs of the face were taken after surgery showed satisfactory esthetic outcomes. The right gonial angle improved from 128.20° ± 5.67° to 120.35° ± 0.46°, and the left gonial angle improved from 129.91° ± 2.78° to 120.74° ± 0.59°. The midlines of the maxilla and mandibular basically consisted of the facial midline. After surgery, patients' clinical manifestation of the temporomandibular joint was no significant difference compared with the preoperative and the condylar process had no absorption. The results of this study showed it was possible to perform orthognathic surgery and mandibular contour osteoplasty simultaneously with the help of surgical templates in the treatment of mandibular protrusion with high gonial angle.

Salvage or Solution: Alloplastic Reconstruction in Hemifacial Microsomia.

Skeletal reconstruction in severe grades of hemifacial microsomia (HFM) continues to be challenging. Traditional techniques of autografts and osseous distraction for reconstruction of the glenoid fossa, condyle, and ramus can fall short of expectations and can create new problems. This intercontinental study analyzes the role of alloplastic skeletal rehabilitation in severe HFM. Ten consecutive patients with Pruzansky grade III HFM were reconstructed between October 2014 and July 2017 at 2 craniofacial centers following the same protocol. Data were gathered retrospectively from the medical records, including photographs and virtual planning records. Pre and postoperative photos were taken to compare occlusal status, interincisal opening, sagittal mandibular projection, and posterior facial height. Alloplastic reconstruction was accomplished using a custom designed titanium implant. Ten consecutive skeletally mature patients with HFM with failed traditional reconstructions were successfully treated with virtually planned alloplastic reconstructions (11 joints) and simultaneous orthognathic surgery. The glenoid fossa, condyle, and ramus on the affected sides were reconstructed with custom designed titanium implants. All patients achieved occlusal stabilization, normalization of posterior facial height and sagittal mandibular projection, and maintenance or improved inter-incisal opening. There were no major complications or repeated surgeries. Follow-up ranges from 6 to 50 months. Alloplastic reconstruction allows for precise vertical reconstruction of the ramus and condyle and sagittal repositioning of the mandibular body. The glenoid fossa component is firmly anchored to the skull base assuring a stable centric relation on the reconstructed side. Consistent and acceptable results can be achieved in skeletally mature patients.

Hemimandibular Hyperplasia Correction by Simultaneous Orthognathic Surgery and Condylectomy Under Digital Guidance

Orthognathic surgery with simultaneous condylectomy under digital guidance has been proved to be a feasible method to treat hemimandibular hyperplasia (HH). The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects and precision of correction of HH by use of this method. This was a case-series study. Fourteen patients with HH who had undergone simultaneous bimaxillary orthognathic surgery and condylectomy from January 2016 to April 2017 were included in this study. Presurgical virtual treatment planning was performed, transferred to the operation room, and realized with the assistance of surgical navigation and 3-dimensionally printed occlusion splints. Postoperative computed tomography data were used to analyze improvement in facial symmetry and verify the accuracy of the surgical procedure. All patients exhibited satisfactory clinical effects; facial asymmetry was corrected as expected. Postoperative validation showed that the presurgical planning had been achieved more precisely on the unaffected side than on the affected side. Moreover, bilateral mandibular proximal segments showed a tendency for outward rotation compared with the presurgical planning model. Furthermore, when we assessed facial symmetry compared with the presurgical model, deviation of all midline landmarks was less than 2mm, occlusal-plane inclination was less than 1mm, and the asymmetry index of paired landmarks was remarkably decreased after surgery (P<.01). Orthognathic surgery with simultaneous condylectomy under digital guidance is a realistic and precise method for treatment of HH. Surgical results can be validated during surgery by virtual navigation. However, movement of each bone segment cannot be accurately controlled as planned before surgery.

The Application of 3D Printing Technology for Simultaneous Orthognathic Surgery and Mandibular Contour Osteoplasty in the Treatment of Craniofacial Deformities.

Because of the limitation of specific preoperative design and surgical templates, orthognathic surgery and mandibular contour osteoplasty are generally performed in two stages. Three-dimensional printing technology has improved the accuracy of the surgery and results in good surgical predictability easily. This study aims to confirm the effectiveness, feasibility and precision of simultaneous mandibular contour osteoplasty and orthognathic surgery with the assistance of 3D printing technology. Ten patients, who were diagnosed with mandibular hypertrophy and bimaxillary deformities, were included in the study. In addition to conventional orthognathic surgery, mandibular angle ostectomy, mandibular outer cortex grinding or mandibular border ostectomy was designed for mandibular hypertrophy. Optimal osteotomy lines and simulated surgeries were designed according the 3D printing model of the mandible. Then, surgical templates were made on the 3D printing model. No muscle excision was performed in any patient. Preoperative, predicted and postoperative measurements were taken, including the gonial angle (Ar-Go-Me) and the mandibular width (Go-Go). All the patients had a reposeful postoperative recovery, with no indication of obvious infection, facial paralysis, osteonecrosis or bone displacement. The gonial angle was improved from 110.3°±11.1 to 121.3°±2.9, and the mandibular width was improved from 117.5mm±6.8 to 111.9mm±4.2. The discrepancies between simulation and postoperation of the left gonial angle, the right gonial angle and the mandibular width were 0.56°±0.22, 0.65°±0.3 and 0.49mm±0.43, respectively. The results of our study illustrated the predictability, feasibility and reliability of simultaneous mandibular contour osteoplasty and orthognathic surgery with the assistance of 3D printing technology. Our technique could achieve functional improvement and an aesthetic profile at the same time. This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Establishment and application of a digital workflow in the treatment of condylar osteochondroma and secondary dentofacial deformities using image-guided endoscopic navigation combined with orthognathic surgery

Objective: To establish a digital workflow in the treatment of mandibular condylar osteochondroma with secondary dentofacial deformities using navigation and endoscope combined with orthognathic surgery. Methods: Thirty-six patients with unilateral condylar osteochondroma were analyzed retrospectively. Preoperative planning and simulation were carried out on the digital three-dimansional (3D) model in all patients. With the aid of image-guided endoscopic navigation, osteochondroma resection and condylectomy were accurately performed. Secondary dentofacial deformities were simultaneously corrected using orthognathic surgery. All patients were followed up regularly and received postoperative CT scans. The preoperative simulated model and the postoperative actual model were matched using ProPlan CMF 2.0 software. Four corresponding points were marked in the virtual and actual ostectomy plane, respectively. The intersections of mandibular sigmoid notch and posterior ramusrim with condylectomy plane were marked as the anterior point and the posterior point, respectively. The perpendicular bisector of the line from the anterior point to the posterior point was intersected with the lateral and medial margin of condylectomy plane to form the lateral point and the medial point, respectively. The straight-line distances between the corresponding points in the virtual and actual ostectomy plane were respectively measured to analyze the ostectomy discrepancy. Results: All of 36 patients obtained satisfactory clinical effects. Facial symmetry and morphology were greatly improved. Postoperative CT showed that condylar tumors were completely removed. The preoperative simulated model and the postoperative actual model were matched. The average discrepancy between the planned and actual surgical resection was minimal on the anterior points ([0.24 ± 0.17] mm) and the mean error was maximal on the posterior points ([3.86±1.03] mm). The patients showed no signs of tumor recurrence in the 6 to 12 months of follow-up. Conclusions: Endoscope-assisted and navigation-guided tumor resection and condylectomy combined with simultaneous orthognathic surgery has satisfactory clinical effects in the treatment of condylar osteochondroma and secondary dentofacial deformities. The digital management workflow reported in this paper provides us a valuable option for this potentially complicated procedure.

Computer-assisted surgical planning and intraoperative navigation in the treatment of condylar osteochondroma

Mandibular condylar osteochondroma (OC) results in asymmetric prognathism with facial morphology and functional disturbances. The aim of this study was to explore the feasibility of computer-assisted surgical planning combined with intraoperative navigation in the treatment of condylar OC. Five patients with mandibular condylar OC were enrolled in this study. Surgical planning and simulation was performed based on a computed tomography reconstruction model using SurgiCase software. Under the guidance of navigation, a condylar OC resection and conservative condylectomy was carried out via intraoral approach. Simultaneous orthognathic surgery was used to correct the facial asymmetry and malocclusion. All patients healed uneventfully. No facial nerve injury or salivary fistula occurred. Facial symmetry and morphology were greatly improved and stable occlusion was obtained in all cases. Good matching between preoperative planning and postoperative results was achieved. Patients showed no signs of recurrence or temporomandibular joint ankylosis during follow-up of 12–30 months. Computer-assisted surgical planning and intraoperative navigation is a valuable option in the treatment of mandibular condylar OC.
