The mechanical treatment of cermet porous bearings should be considered not only as a means for securing the assigned dimensions and geometric shape of the bearings, but also as a possibility of producing treated surfaces of high quality. The quality of the treated surface can be varied according to the requirements imposed by choosing suitable parameters of the mechanical treatment conditions. 2. From the various calibration methods, the combined method is the most suitable, since it simultaneously secures a high-quality outside surface, which is matched to the frame socket, and a high-quality inside surface of the bearing, which is matched to the shaft journal. The indispensable condition for using the combined calibration method is a correct choice of the operating dimensions of the punch and of the die of press-dies [formulas (1)–(7)]. 3. With respect to the degree of compression of the porous frame and the degree of cold working to which the material is subjected, the calibrated surfaces are not uniform, which negatively affects the wear resistance of bearings. The mechanical treatment of cermet porous bearings by cutting is more advantageous, since the surface roughness resulting from the sintering process is eliminated in cutting, and not “smeared over,” as in calibration. 4. The ordinary calibration methods do not eliminate the eccentricity of the outside and inside surfaces of a bearing and, therefore, bearings with accurate dimensions should be calibrated in special press-dies or machined by cutting.
