Thermal Engineering plays a crucial role in the design, development, operation and maintenance of almost all the systems of mechanical industry, electrical industry, automobile industry, and aerospace industry and HVAC industry. ICATEA 2021 aims to impart research skills to the researchers and faculty members to improve the quality of research in the area of thermal energy and its application. This conference will bring a positive transformation among the students and faculty members towards research work and enable the participants to develop competence in understanding the advances and ongoing research in the field of thermal energy systemsThis conference focuses on a range of issues related to various thermal engineering and applications like Solar, Wind, Biogas, Geothermal, Biomass etc. The purpose of the conference is to bring together the multi - disciplinary community of engineers, scientists, and academics to discuss recent trends and future developments in renewable energy. The conference features invited and contributed talks organized in different sessions. The conference was actually planned to conduct in the blended mode initially (physical and virtual). But as the dates of the conference were nearing, the second wave of Covid 19 disease started and intensified in India. Because of the strict travel restrictions imposed by the State Government, the conference committee decided to conduct the conference completely in virtual mode, in the safety point of view. Most of the undergraduate and post graduate students are in the final year of their study and will be completing their programs by the month of May 2021. So keeping this in view, it was decided to conduct the conference virtually, without postponing it.The invited speakers are globally recognized experts in the respective fields’ viz., Prof. Dr. Sandro Nizetic, Head of Department of Thermodynamics, LTEF - Laboratory for Thermodynamics and Energy Efficiency, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Split, Rudjera Boskovica 32, 21000, Split, Croatia. Also, Co-Editor in Chief - Energy Sources Part A: Recovery, Utilization and Environmental Effects (Taylor & Francis), Associate Editor - Journal of Cleaner Production (Elsevier), Associate Editor - International Journal of Energy Research (Wiley); Prof. Dr. Afsin GUNGOR, Head of Energy Division, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Akdeniz University, Turkey; Prof. Dr. Erol KURT, Faculty of Technology, Electrical Electronics Engineering, Gazi University, Yenimahalle/Ankara, Turkey, Editor-in-Chief - Journal of Energy Systems and Dr. M B Mukesh Krishnan, Professor, SRM Innovation Incubation Cell, Department of Information Technology, SRMIST, Kattankulathur.Around 160 technical papers were received for the conference, out of which 120 papers were selected for presentation. The articles were received from Morocco, Sultanate of Oman, NIT Calicut, Anna University and from various other Universities. The selected papers are planned for publication in the journals like Journal of Power and Energy (ISSN: 0957-6509), Journal of Physics: Conference Series (JPCS) (ISSN: 1742-6596) and Journal of Energy Systems (ISSN: 2602-2052). The received papers were presented in 13 parallel sessions in 2 days. A time of 15 minutes was given to the authors for presentation and next 10 minutes was for the discussion as well as Q&A sessions. The Chair and co-chair will ask questions first and then followed by the audience. Participants were presenting from their homes/offices and spread throughout the country and abroad as well. Number of participants were around 600. Licensed version of ZOOM was used for the conference. The organizers are grateful to SRMIST for the kind financial assistance. The Department of Mechanical is thankful to Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar, Chancellor, Mr. Ravi Pachamoothoo, Pro-chancellor (Admin), Dr.P.Sathyanarayanan, Pro-chancellor (Academics), and Dr.R. Shivakumar, Vice President, SRMIST or their encouragement and full support for the success of the conference. The organizing committee thanks the authorities, the Vice Chancellor, Dean (CET), Dean (Research) and Chairperson, School of Mechanical Engineering, SRMIST for their valuable, encouraging and motivating messages for the International conference. The committee also thanks President, Solar Energy Society of India and President, ISHRAE Chennai Chapter for the inspiring messages for the conference.Dr. M CheralathanCONVENERList of About Srmist, About The Department, Chief Patrons, Chairperson of Organizing Committee, Co-Chairpersons of Organizing Committee, International Advisory Committee, National Advisory Committee, Plenary/Keynote Speakers, Convener, Co-Conveners, Organizing Secretaries, ICATEA-2021 Conference Committees are available in this pdf.
