The term "clinical anatomy" is widely used in education and research, yet its conceptual boundaries continue to be interpreted in various ways. Prior consensus-based efforts have emphasized integration, collaboration, and clinical relevance as central features of the field and have provided an important foundation for interdisciplinary engagement. At the same time, ongoing changes in academic structure, medical education, and interdisciplinary biomedical science raise important questions regarding how clinical anatomy can sustain its scientific identity and long-term relevance. Building upon prior discussions, this article argues that the continued maturation of clinical anatomy depends on the integration of conceptual frameworks with the sustained production of rigorous, reproducible, and clinically meaningful scholarly contributions. Historical and contemporary examples alike demonstrate that the influence of clinical anatomy has been shaped through contributions that directly advanced clinical science and practice. Accordingly, continued emphasis on methodological rigor, reproducibility, clinically meaningful contribution, and educational accountability may be essential to the field's future development and relevance.

Queering tenure: Broadening metrics to assess the impact, innovation, and independence of LGBTQ+ health researchers.

ABSTRACT Drawing on nearly two decades of multi-case and comparative qualitative research, this article examines the relationship between social cohesion and xenophobic violence in South Africa. Echoing emerging scholarship, it challenges the conventional wisdom that social cohesion is inherently a panacea for violence. It demonstrates that, under certain conditions, social cohesion, enacted through collective efficacy, is linked to xenophobic violence, not as a solution but as a driver. The article argues that intersections between migration-induced diversity, severe socio-economic deprivation, and local governance deficits turn existing bonding cohesion into “exclusionary cohesion,” thereby rendering aspects of social cohesion (i.e., social cohesion itself) a driver of xenophobic violence in South Africa. It makes a three-fold scholarly contribution: i) it introduces the concepts of “exclusionary cohesion” and “deprivation-induced cohesion” (an extension of Weber’s ‘social closure’) which capture the essence of aspects of social cohesion making it a driver of xenophobic violence; ii) it provides empirical evidence that supports calls to reconceptualise social cohesion as its conventional understandings become increasingly anachronistic; and iii) it extends the debate on the social cohesion – violence nexus by beginning to identify factors linking specific forms of cohesion to specific forms of violence.

ABSTRACT Community college criminal justice faculty make significant yet often overlooked scholarly contributions despite heavy teaching loads, high‑needs student populations, and chronic underfunding. This article highlights the growing body of research these faculty produce – from open educational resources to studies on pedagogy and contemporary criminal justice issues – and examines why they conduct research with limited or no institutional incentives. Analysis of written reflections from six faculty members reveals that research strengthens teaching, supports equitable student outcomes, and fosters professional growth, even as a dearth of time, resources, and recognition poses major barriers. The article concludes with recommendations for community college leaders to support faculty research through reassigned time, conference funding, and greater integration of scholarly work into departmental culture.

The increasing reliance on bibliometric indicators to define academic success has reshaped surgical training and evaluation worldwide. While research productivity plays a critical role in advancing medical knowledge, its growing dominance as a surrogate for professional excellence poses unique challenges in low-and middle-income countries. In these settings, surgeons shoulder a disproportionate burden of surgical disease, often managing high case volumes, advanced pathology, and limited resources. Despite this, academic recognition remains closely tied to publication metrics that inadequately capture operative skill, clinical judgement, and patient-centred outcomes. This editorial examines the misalignment between academic metrics and surgical competence in low-and middle-income countries, explores the influence of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence on scholarly output, and argues for a more context-sensitive definition of surgical excellence. Reframing evaluation frameworks to balance scholarly contribution with clinical mastery is essential to preserving patient safety, training integrity, and the ethical foundations of surgical practice.

The Family Process Institute (FPI) Writers Fellowship supports the development of scholars who will advance systemic theory, research, and clinical practice grounded in a commitment to social justice. In this introduction to the Writers Fellowship special section, I describe the rationale for and history of this FPI initiative and how these eight authors help expand whose perspectives, interests, and voices are included in the family therapy field's knowledge base. I highlight the broader systemic/relational lenses the authors bring to issues and communities that are often individualized or overlooked and emphasize the value of the personal transparency they bring to their scholarship. Together, these papers illustrate promising contributions of new scholars to the study and application of systemic approaches to research and practice and challenge the status quo.

Concerns about the declining relevance of academic research overlook the significant role that scholars have played in developing both the process and key concepts behind one of the most well-known approaches used to teach entrepreneurship and innovation today: Design thinking. This study traces the foundational academic texts that led to the creation of key concepts in practitioner-oriented discussions of design thinking, and examines the obstacles that slowed their diffusion across both academic disciplines and practitioner settings. To do so, we focus on three distinct types of concepts: mindset concepts (i.e., those spanning multiple stages, such as assumption surfacing, collaboration, empathy, and visualization), ideation concepts (e.g., idea volume, deferred judgment, and divergent thinking), and the creative process. We explore the implications of the historical evolution of design thinking for ensuring that scholarly contributions to practice do not go unknown or unrecognized within academia, and conclude by offering a set of recommendations concerning how the incentives might be altered to make room for closer collaboration between science and practice.

This paper examines the history of the formation and development of phraseology as an independent linguistic discipline. The main stages in the development of scientific views on phraseological units are analyzed, beginning with early observations of fixed expressions and continuing through contemporary research in the field of phraseology. Particular attention is paid to the contribution of domestic and foreign scholars to the development of phraseological theory, as well as to the specific features of the formation of phraseological studies in Korean linguistics. The paper emphasizes the importance of phraseology as a significant branch of linguistics that reflects the cultural, historical, and national characteristics of a language.

ABSTRACT This study aims to evaluate the scholarly contributions of chemistry faculty members at Central Universities in India by examining their Google Scholar citation profiles. The data was gathered through manual searches of Google Scholar profiles using content analysis method, based on faculty members’ names and affiliations. A review of 56 central university websites revealed that only 38 universities offer Chemistry as a subject. Of the 493 faculty members identified, 398 had active Google Scholar profiles. The study revealed that the 398 faculty members have collectively produced approximately 43,526 publications and received 842,859 citations. It was observed that approximately 100 faculty members were not present on the platform. Regular updates of publication lists, including works in edited books and conference proceedings, are essential to ensure their work is accessible to others. Notably, faculty members must regularly review their Google Scholar profiles for incorrectly attributed publications, which may arise from automated name-matching algorithms, particularly in cases of common names or variations in name representation. Such issues are not unique to India and have been reported across different countries and linguistic contexts, underscoring the need for careful profile maintenance. The findings provide valuable insights that can help academic institutions and chemical researchers in India and other countries enhance the quality, visibility, and impact of their research activities, as well as foster meaningful collaboration. The study highlights the role of academic librarians in enhancing faculty research visibility by creating and maintaining accurate metadata, managing and updating researcher profiles, and facilitating the linking of institutional repositories with ORCID systems.

BackgroundQuality improvement reports (QIRs) are important for disseminating real-world interventions in healthcare. However, as a relatively new genre of scholarly writing, QIRs vary widely in clarity, methodological rigour and scholarly contribution. Despite the availability of reporting frameworks such as Standards for Quality Improvement Reporting Excellence (SQUIRE) V.2.0, key elements—such as methodological rigour, contextual detail and rationale for interventions—are often under-reported or poorly articulated. This study aimed to (1) identify best practices in publishing QIRs and (2) examine common methodological strengths and weaknesses in project design and execution.MethodsWe conducted a scoping review using the six-stage framework by Arksey and O’Malley. A purposeful sample of 71 QIRs published in 2019 across three leading quality improvement (QI) journals—BMJ Quality & Safety, BMJ Open Quality and Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety—was analysed. Data extraction was guided by SQUIRE V.2.0 and supplemented by additional best practices. Return-of-findings sessions with QI scholars, journal editors, frontline practitioners and an international QI conference audience refined the findings and ensured practical relevance.ResultsMost QIRs described a local problem and intervention but only 22% articulated strong aim statements with measurable targets. Two-thirds referenced a QI methodology but many descriptions of common QI tools lacked rigour. Process and balancing measures were often missing or inadequately justified. While Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles were commonly reported, few met criteria for ‘authenticity’. Data analysis and display methods varied, with several common weaknesses. Discussion sections frequently lacked depth and contextual factors—critical for reproducibility—were inconsistently described. Eight core lessons emerged to support more rigorous, transparent and impactful reporting.ConclusionsAs an emerging genre of scholarly communication, many QIRs still fall short in conveying methodological rigour and transferable insights. This review provides practical recommendations, illustrated by strong examples, to help authors and educators improve the clarity and impact of QIRs across healthcare settings.

Alina Bako presents Marius Turda's 2024 book, “În căutarea românului perfect: Specific național, degenerare rasială și selecție socială în România modernă” [In search of the perfect Romanian: National specificity, racial degeneration, and social selection in modern Romania] (published by Polirom), as a landmark and indispensable synthesis in the field of Romanian cultural and intellectual history studies. Marius Turda, a professor at Oxford Brookes University (UK) and a leading international expert on eugenics, racism, and biopolitics in Central and Eastern Europe, delivers a rigorous, evidence-based demythologization of modern Romanian history. At the core of his argument lies a stark conclusion: the notion of a “perfect Romanian” - an idealized, biologically and culturally pure national archetype - has never truly existed and was always a constructed fantasy rooted in anxiety, exclusion, and pseudoscientific ambition. Instead, Turda advocates for a healthier alternative: a tolerant, civic-oriented form of patriotism grounded in inclusion, democratic values, and critical self-reflection rather than ethnic or racial essentialism. The book meticulously brings together two dominant yet conflicting visions of Romanian identity that emerged in the 19th and especially the 20th centuries. On one side, romantic and literary discourses - prominent in the works of writers, poets, and cultural critics - celebrated the Romanian peasant as the embodiment of authentic national virtues: simplicity, moral purity, and deep connection to the land and traditions. On the other side, emerging medical, anthropological, and eugenic discourses expressed profound alarm over perceived "racial degeneration," demographic decline, and biological “weakness” among the population. Medicine was increasingly reframed not merely as a healing profession but as a “national science” tasked with engineering biological improvement through selective reproduction, social hygiene policies, and interventions aimed at strengthening the Romanian “race”. Turda examines these ideas with scholarly impartiality and nuance, situating Romania firmly within broader European trends. He shows how interwar eugenics, scientific racism, and antisemitism were not marginal or uniquely Romanian phenomena but part of a continent-wide intellectual current embraced by scientists, politicians, and cultural figures. In Romania, this manifested in exclusionary policies and rhetoric targeting Jews, Roma communities, people with disabilities, and other groups deemed “undesirable" or “degenerative”. Eugenic nationalism gained particular momentum after the creation of Greater Romania in 1918, finding enthusiastic support among prominent intellectuals such as Mihai Eminescu (in his proto-nationalist writings), Octavian Goga, Emil Cioran (in his early, controversial phase), and numerous physicians, biologists, and anthropologists who promoted ideas of racial purification and social selection. The analysis does not stop at the interwar period. Turda traces the persistence and adaptation of these discriminatory logics into the post-World War II era, including under communist rule, where certain biopolitical concerns were reframed in ideological terms while discriminatory practices against minorities and “socially unfit” individuals continued in different forms. By placing Romanian debates in transnational context, the book demonstrates how local ideas about national specificity and racial improvement circulated within - and were influenced by European networks of eugenic thought, from German Rassenhygiene to Anglo-American sterilization movements and French degeneration theories. Ultimately, În căutarea românului perfect functions as both a scholarly contribution and a vital educational and civic tool. It urges Romanian society to confront uncomfortable aspects of its past, dismantle lingering national obsessions with ethnic purity and biological exceptionalism, and prevent the repetition of historical abuses rooted in exclusion and pseudoscience. The book's significance has been widely recognized: in 2025, it was awarded the prestigious Observator Cultural Prize in the Essay/Publicistics category, affirming its impact on contemporary Romanian intellectual discourse. Through this meticulously researched and courageously honest volume, Marius Turda invites readers into an open, unflinching dialogue about the making (and unmaking) of modern Romania.

This article examines the life, scholarly contributions, and distinctive methodological features of Imam Abu Isa Muhammad al-Tirmidhi (209–279 AH), one of the most eminent hadith scholars of the classical Islamic tradition. Special attention is given to his monumental compilation “Sunan al-Tirmidhi” (also known as “Al-Jamiʼ”), its various titles in the scholarly tradition, its unique technical terminology – including the categories of hasan, gharib, and hasan sahih – and its structural and jurisprudential characteristics. The study draws on primary Islamic scholarly sources and contextualizes Tirmidhi’s contribution within the broader history of hadith science and its integration with Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh).

This study examines the economic security of business entities by conducting a systematic bibliometric analysis of academic research indexed in the Scopus database. Due to digital transformation, growing technological dependence, market volatility and heightened exposure to economic and information-related risks, economic security at the enterprise level has become an increasingly important research topic. In this context, economic security is understood to encompass not only financial stability, but also broader organisational capabilities such as information protection, risk management, resilience, and innovation-driven adaptation. The study focuses on the body of academic research devoted to the economic security of business entities. This article aims to identify the intellectual structure of this research field and its dominant thematic areas and geographical patterns of scholarly contributions. It also seeks to determine underexplored research directions relevant to contemporary enterprise security challenges. To this end, a bibliometric research design was employed. The analysis is based on a final dataset of 87 publications from 2004 to 2025. Bibliometric techniques were employed via VOSviewer and the Bibliometrix (Biblioshiny) package to analyse co-citation networks, keyword co-occurrence and thematic clusters. The results reveal a multidimensional research landscape centred on information security, risk management, financial stability and technological innovation. The findings suggest an increasing focus on resilience-oriented and integrative security frameworks, reflecting a shift away from narrowly defined protective approaches towards more comprehensive organisational models of economic security. The analysis also reveals a geographically diverse research landscape, with notable scholarly contributions emerging from Eastern Europe, East Asia, and developed economies. These patterns reflect region-specific economic, institutional and security challenges that influence research priorities and methodological approaches. At the same time, however, the bibliometric evidence highlights persistent gaps relating to crisis resilience, the governance of information security, and the integration of emerging digital technologies at enterprise level. Based on the results obtained, the study concludes that research on the economic security of business entities is still fragmented and interdisciplinary, and requires stronger integration of strategic and technological perspectives. By providing a structured overview of existing literature, the study clarifies enterprise-level economic security research and suggests directions for future academic enquiry and managerial practice.

Purpose - The rapid development of digital civilisation has fundamentally transformed the methods by which Muslims access, produce, and interpret sources of Islamic law. Concurrently, this transformation necessitates a methodological renewal in contemporary independent juristic reasoning (ijtihad). This article aims to explore a model of Islamic legal interpretation that reconciles the methodological legacy of the Islamic legal theory (u?uli) tradition with interpretive practices in the digital age. The study emphasises the integration of meticulous textual analysis, an awareness of contemporary social contexts, and the ethical and responsible application of technology.Methodology/approach - The study employs a qualitative approach characterised by a normative-critical design. The analysis draws upon Islamic legal texts, the literature on Islamic legal theory (u?ul al-fiqh), and scholarly research on digital religion and technology. Moreover, the analytical framework integrates textual, historical, social, and technological dimensions within the context of the objectives of Islamic law (maqa?id al-shari?ah), thereby facilitating a more comprehensive understanding. Building upon this foundation, the study proposes a novel integrative framework that systematically synthesises u?ul al-fiqh, digital epistemology, and maqa?id-based ethics.Findings - The findings indicate that classical u?ul al-fiqh methodologies remain adaptive when reinterpreted through a maqa?id-oriented and context-sensitive approach. In this regard, digital technology functions not merely as a tool; rather, it also acts as an epistemic agent that shapes contemporary legal reasoning and authority. The article further demonstrates that digital technology holds considerable potential to expand access and enhance efficiency in the interpretation of Islamic law. Nevertheless, its use must be guided by sound methodological principles and scholarly ethics. An integrative interpretive model grounded in text, technology, and context enables Islamic law to remain relevant, authoritative, and oriented towards public welfare (ma?la?ah) amid ongoing social dynamics and technological developments. The scholarly contribution of this study lies in proposing a conceptual model of digital ijtihad that not only enriches contemporary Islamic legal theory but also provides a foundation for future interdisciplinary research on law, technology, and society.Conclusion - This research advocates for the advancement of a more interdisciplinary ijtihad methodology through the integration of digital literacy, technology ethics, and the framework of maqa?id al-shari?ah. This approach aims to enhance Islamic legal interpretation's capacity to address the challenges posed by digital society in a more comprehensive manner.

Generative AI and the visibility of scholarly contribution in tourism research

This study reviews the state of knowledge on MSME sustainability with a focus on empirical research in emerging Asian countries. By employing a combination of bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review (SLR) techniques, the study draws upon a comprehensive pool of 950 articles sourced from the SCOPUS and Web of Science databases to evaluate trends, gaps, and scholarly contributions within this domain. Results show a clear rise in MSME-sustainability research over the past decade, with Indonesia and India leading scholarly output. Yet several drivers and themes remain underexplored, revealing both theoretical and practical gaps. As the first systematic effort to synthesize research on MSME sustainability within the context of emerging Asian economies, the study offers original insights and a structured agenda for future research. Given MSMEs’ central role in development and their relevance to the SDGs, the findings underscore the need for targeted inquiry and stronger policy support to advance effective sustainability strategies in the region.

Balkan studies as a complex field of scholarship emerged from nineteenth-century Slavic studies and are closely connected with early field research. As a result of centuries of interaction among peoples of different genealogical backgrounds, the languages of the Balkan Peninsula have lost important inherited features and acquired typologically comparable characteristics. Scholarly descriptions present the Balkan Language Union as a centre of heterogeneous innovations, while the delimitation of the periphery of the Balkan Slavic Area remains a matter of debate. South Slavic Balkanisms result from the long-term accumulation and interaction of two multilingual and ethnoculturally profiled areal complexes: the South Slavic (genealogical dimension) and the Balkan (structural dimension). From a sociolinguistic perspective, this situation is closely linked to the contemporary status of dialects. With generational change among speakers of distinctive dialects, linguistic practice is increasingly standardised under the influence of the educational system, the written and spoken norms of the standard language, and the growing mobility of people in the globalised contemporary world. Balkan Slavic interlingual comparisons therefore require particular attention to the standard language as a generalised supra-dialectal system. It is essential to determine to what extent it incorporates Balkanisms, how these are treated by the norm, and how selectivity operates within the norm. Moreover, in the Balkan Slavic languages, similarities and differ-ences across the axes dialect – oral communication – standard language do not fully coincide; in other words, the points of Balkanisation do not entirely overlap. The study spans a broad historical period, beginning with the key contributions of Jernej Kopitar and scholars associated with the Viennese School of Slavic Studies, including works written in and translated into Serbian and Bulgarian. It highlights research that has not been sufficiently appreciated in terms of the continuity and sustainability of knowledge across a wide scholarly spectrum.

Studies on Sufi poetry indicate that symbolism functions not only as an aesthetic expression but also as a medium of complex spiritual experience. However, previous research often separates religious symbols from existential imagery, resulting in fragmented interpretations of meaning. This study aims to analyze the symbols of the Beloved and the sea in the poetry of Ahmadun Yosi Herfanda using a Sufi symbolic approach. This research employs a qualitative method of textual analysis grounded in Vladimir Braginsky's symbolic-Sufi framework. The data consist of selected poems analyzed through symbol identification, interpretation of meaning, and their relation to Sufi concepts. The findings reveal that the Beloved's symbol represents the ultimate goal of union with the Divine. At the same time, the sea symbolizes the spiritual journey characterized by longing, trials, and alienation. Both symbols are integrated into a unified mystical structure connecting journey and union. The study concludes that mystical experience in Ahmadun Yosi Herfanda’s poetry is integrative and multidimensional. Its scholarly contribution lies in developing a Sufi symbolic reading that combines relational (Beloved) and processual (sea) dimensions within a systematic analytical framework.

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of Türkiye's scholarly contributions to mass timber research by examining both bibliometric patterns and experimental studies. A PRISMA-guided screening process was applied to identify 50 studies published between 2015 and 2025, and SciMAT software was used to map thematic structures and detect conceptual shifts over two periods (2015–2020 and 2021–2025). The thematic evolution analysis shows a transition from material-centred research themes such as bonding performance, the mechanical behaviour of GLT and CLT, and durability to performance-based and system-oriented concepts including seismic behaviour, hybrid strengthening, and structural applications. The evaluation of 38 experimental studies highlights a growing emphasis on adhesives, shear performance, beam behaviour, and CLT-GLT structural systems, reflecting Türkiye's increasing interest in engineered wood products in the post-earthquake context. These findings provide new insights into the intellectual development of timber research in Türkiye and support the journal's focus on engineered wood technologies and performance-based applications.
