Reinstatement of Portulaca badamica from P. tuberosa with critical notes on variation in P. tuberosa

Portulacaceae is a monogeneric family with a genus Portulaca comprising more than 150 species worldwide. In India, it is represented by 11 taxa of which three species are endemic. Portulaca tuberosa is a polymorphic species distributed in the Indian subcontinent to North Australia. During revisionary studies of the genus, authors collected different populations of P. tuberosa from India with different morphotypes. Detailed studies were carried out on the variation of P. tuberosa with the pictorial presentation. Furthermore, P. badamica is much distinct species in Clade-Pilosa despite this, misleadingly some workers synonymized the species under P. tuberosa. However, morphological, molecular, and SEM studies show P. badamica and P. tuberosa are unrelated and distinct species. The present work also highlights the variation in P. tuberosa which will avoid further confusion while describing the new taxon as well as the reinstatement of P. badamica from P. tuberosa with the help of all supportive data.

Stable Millivolt Range Resistive Switching in Percolating Molybdenum Nanoparticle Networks.

To overcome the limitations of the conventional Von Neumann architecture, inspiration from the mammalian brain has led to the development of nanoscale neuromorphic networks. In the present research, molybdenum nanoparticles (NPs), which were produced by means of gas phase condensation based on magnetron sputtering, are shown to be the constituents of electrically percolating networks that exhibit stable, complex, neuron-like spiking behavior at low potentials in the millivolt range, satisfying well the requirement of low energy consumption. Characterization of the NPs using both scanning electron microscopy and scanning transmission electron microscopy revealed not only pristine shape, size, and density control of Mo NPs but also a preliminary proof of the working mechanism behind the spiking behavior due to filament formations. Furthermore, electrostatics COMSOL Multiphysics simulations of the morphology of the NPs provided evidence that the stable switching is due to the as-deposited stellate Mo NPs creating high electric field strengths, while keeping them separated, not seen before in other percolating networks based on spherical NPs. Hence, our results show the working mechanism behind switching in percolating Mo NP networks and show that they are very promising for realistic neuromorphic systems.

Nanocrystalline Lanthanum Oxide Layers on Tubes Synthesized Using the Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition Technique

Lanthanum oxide (La2O3) layers are widely used in electronics, optics, and optoelectronics due to their properties. Lanthanum oxide is also used as a dopant, modifying and improving the properties of other materials in the form of layers, as well as having a large volume. In this work, lanthanum oxide layers were obtained using MOCVD (Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition) on the inner walls of tubular substrates at 600–750 °C. The basic reactant was La(tmhd)3 (tris(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionato)lanthanum(III)). The evaporation temperature of La(tmhd)3 amounted to 170–200 °C. Pure argon (99.9999%) and air were used as the carrier gases. The air was also intended to remove the carbon from the synthesized layers. Tubes of quartz glass were used as the substrates. La2O3 layers were found to be growing on their inner surfaces. The value of the extended Grx/Rex2 criterion, where Gr—Grashof’s number, Re—Reynolds’ number, x—the distance from the gas inflow point, was below 0.01. The microstructure of the deposited layers of lanthanum oxide was investigated using an electron scanning microscope (SEM). Their chemical composition was analyzed via energy-dispersive X-ray (EDS) analysis. Their phase composition was tested via X-ray diffraction. The transmittance of the layers of lanthanum oxide was determined with the use of UV-Vis spectroscopy. The obtained layers of lanthanum oxide were characterized by a nanocrystalline microstructure and stable cubic structure. They also exhibited good transparency in both ultraviolet (UV) and visible (Vis) light.

Formulation, characterization and evaluation of minocycline hydrochloride loaded polyurethane/collagen nanofibers via electrospinning as wound dressings

Objective It was aimed to formulate minocyline. HCI loaded electrospun polyurethane/collagen (PU/Col) and polyurethane/collagen/polycaprolactone (PU/Col/PCL) nanofibers are intended for use as a wound dressing. Methods The effect of polymer ratio and addition of PCL on the morphology, diameter, drug delivery, encapsulation efficiency, mechanical properties, antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, cytotoxicity, cell adhesion and proliferation were investigated. 3-(4,5-dimethyldiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay was used to test the cytotoxicity of the nanofibers on the human dermal fibroblast (HDF) cell line. Cell proliferation/adhesion was also determined by imaging HDF cells seeded on mats with scanning electron microscopy/fluorescence microscopy. Results All nanofibers were bead-free and smooth in the diameter range of 866.7–882.4 nm. They had favorable encapsulation efficiency (≥79.3%), controlled drug release up to 24 h and did not have cytotoxic effects. Although collagen was preferred for cell adhesion and proliferation, its spinnability and mechanical properties were poor. While PU improved the spinnability of collagen, its mechanical properties also enhanced with the addition of PCL. Nevertheless, all mats led to favorable cell adhesion and proliferation. All the nanofibers had antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Conclusion In conclusion, PU/Col and PU/Col/PCL nanofiber mats, which had favorable encapsulation efficiency, controlled drug release and antibacterial activity at least 24 h, cell viability, proliferation, adhesion, mechanical properties to be used as wound dressing, were successfully prepared.

Rediscovery of Microbrachida Bierig, 1939, description of a new species from the Brazilian Amazon and its potential for biological control (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae)

The genus Microbrachida was described by Alexander Bierig based on one tiny rove beetle. Since then, it has not been studied. Recently, a set of small rove beetle specimens were collected in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, where they occur foraging mushrooms that grow on logs of cultivated trees. These mushrooms cause an infection known as witches' broom disease on those plants. Here, we redescribe Microbrachida and describe a new species in it. We also provide images of the diagnostic characteristics of the genus (including scanning electron micrographs), a key to the New World genera of Gyrophaenina, a key to the species of Microbrachida and a preliminary discussion about the potential biological control of the new species.

Enhanced delivery of rivastigmine for Alzheimer's disease: Convolvulus pluricaulis lipid hybrid nanoparticles

The study investigates the formulation and characterization of polymeric lipid hybrid nanoparticles (PLHNs) for targeted delivery of Rivastigmine and Convolvulus pluricaulis (C. pluricaulis, Shankhpushpi) extract to the brain. Employing a modified film hydration technique, PLHNs were optimized by adjusting lipid-to-polymer ratios, achieving nanoparticles with optimal size, zeta potential, and entrapment efficiency. The resulting nanoparticles, with sizes between approximately 150–225 nm, exhibited excellent physical stability and encapsulation efficiencies. Characterization through transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed their spherical and smooth morphology. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses showed no significant interactions between the drug, polymer, and plant extract, ensuring formulation stability. In vitro release studies demonstrated a controlled and sustained drug release, with the optimal formulation showing substantial release over 24 hours. The novel object recognition (NOR) test indicated enhanced cognitive function in animals treated with the optimal formulation, suggesting effective brain targeting and neuroprotective activity. Biochemical analyses supported these findings, revealing significant improvements in antioxidant enzyme levels and reductions in oxidative stress markers in treated animals. This study underscores the potential of PLHNs to enhance the delivery of neuroprotective agents, offering a promising strategy for treating neurodegenerative diseases.

Application Research of Infrared Technology in Safety Detection in Ship Field

Abstract. This paper studies infrared technology and its application in the field of ship detection, mainly studying infrared thermal imaging of failure equipment refueling oil spill and ship safety problems because infrared technology is a high precision contact thermal measurement method through infrared camera infrared objects, the infrared spectrum wavelength range of infrared radiation heat, on the receiver into electronic signals, through electronic attenuation and electronic scanning form the corresponding heat map or temperature field image, to intuitively reflect the temperature distribution and heat focus of the object. In addition, the infrared detection device can be reasonably installed in the ship without affecting the work of other equipment, and it has been found that infrared technology has significantly improved the solution to the safety problems of ships.

Graphitic carbon nitride-modified cerium ferrite: an efficient photocatalyst for the degradation of ciprofloxacin, ampicillin, and erythromycin in aqueous solution

Incomplete removal of antibiotics by most known wastewater treatment plants is a global challenge. Therefore, graphitic carbon nitride-modified cerium ferrite (CeFe2O4@g-C3N4) was synthesized to remove antibiotics (ampicillin, ciprofloxacin and erythromycin) from water. CeFe2O4@g-C3N4 showed activity in the visible light with a Tauc plot revealing the bandgap energy (2.46 eV). The scanning electron micrograph (SEM) result revealed the surface of CeFe2O4@g-C3N4 to be heterogeneous, while the transmission electron micrograph (TEM) image confirmed a flaky with rod and oval shaped surface (average particle size of 42.22 nm). CeFe2O4@g-C3N4 exhibited a 100% removal of all the studied antibiotics from aqueous solution in a photocatalytic degradation that is described by pseudo-1st-order kinetics. CeFe2O4@g-C3N4 demonstrated a high regeneration capacity, which is above 90% at the 12th cycle of treatment without any observable changes in its phase structure which suggests a promising chemical stability and reusability. CeFe2O4@g-C3N4 compared favourably with some selected antibiotic degradable photocatalysts suggesting the economic viable of CeFe2O4@g-C3N4 as photocatalyst for the purification of antibiotics-contaminated water.Graphical

Application of microscopic imaging, multispectral techniques, and SEM/EDS analysis to the study of 19th century colour engravings

This study was carried out on a collection of coloured gravures, which are bound in one book volume entitled “Histoire Naturelle des Perroquets”. This book belongs to the Benaki's Collection of the Hellenic Parliament Library, Athens, Greece. Each page has a coloured print, depicting a different bird species. In most cases, the prints present oxidations caused by the additives used in paper and printing inks manufacture, i.e. fillers, sizing agents, binders, solvents, and other chemical compounds.By employing microscopic imaging, multispectral imaging, and Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS) analysis significant information on the materials used, engraving techniques, as well as the preservation state of the printings studied can be obtained. The combination of the proposed methods yields successful results in identifying the materials used in the colour inks, as well as the paper support of the printings.

Facile bio-inspired fabrication of AgNPs from Salvia elegans leaf extract and determination of their cytotoxic DNA photocleavage potential

This study introduces a sustainable method for producing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), focusing on sustainability and environmental protection. The technique includes the use of Salvia elegans aqueous leaf extract as a reducing agent. In addition, the research investigates the dose-dependent degradation of pUC19 DNA by silver nanoparticles, which is facilitated by the generation of singlet oxygen. The presence of S. elegans extract results in significant color changes, going from a colorless state to a dark brown hue, serving as an indication of the synthesis of AgNPs. A range of experimental methods were employed to analyze the biogenic silver nanoparticles, such as UV–visible absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The meticulously produced AgNPs demonstrate a high level of uniformity, featuring a spherical shape and a particle size of 60 nm. DNA photo-cleavage studies show that singlet oxygen plays a crucial role in triggering DNA damage caused by AgNPs indicates their potential as powerful cytotoxic agents specifically aimed at cancer cells. Additional studies are required to clarify the effectiveness and specificity of AgNPs against various cancer cell types to assess their therapeutic potential. The cytotoxic effects of AgNPs, particularly in relation to DNA photocleavage, are of considerable interest in cancer research. This research holds promise for developing novel and sustainable cancer therapies based on the unique properties of biogenic silver nanoparticles.

Enhanced adsorption and reduction of Pb(II) from aqueous solution by sulfide-modified nanoscale zerovalent iron: characterization, kinetics and mechanisms

Nanoscale zerovalent iron (nZVI) was prone to aggregation and passivation, which limited its application. Here, sulfide-modified nZVI (S-nZVI) was synthesized to enhance Pb(II) removal, the transmission electron microscope and scanning electron microscope showed S-nZVI particles exhibited a core–shell structure, with Fe0 comprising the core and iron oxides in the shell, the generated iron sulfides (FeSx) were distributed over the iron oxides shell. The water contact angle results suggested S-nZVI was more hydrophobic than nZVI, which could prevent the oxidation of the inner Fe0 core with aqueous solution, furthermore, the electrochemical experiments demonstrated the FeSx improved the electron transfer efficiency from Fe0 core to contaminants, enhancing the reactivity of S-nZVI. Mechanism analysis confirmed that the electrostatic attraction, chemical precipitation, surface complexation and reduction occurred during the adsorption. S-nZVI with S/Fe molar ratio of 0.3 offered the best Pb(II) adsorption capacity, and higher pH value was favourable, the presence of co-existing cations (K+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+) all interfered the Pb(II) removal, followed as Ca2+ >Mg2+ > K+ > Na+. The pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir model could well described the adsorption process, indicating that monolayer adsorption dominated the process. Thermodynamic results showed the adsorption was a spontaneous endothermic process, even after 4 cycles of recycling, the removal rate remained at 76.4 %, demonstrating S-nZVI had good reusability.

Effect of cyclic loading on microstructure and plastic deformation in heat-treated Co–28Cr–6Mo alloy fabricated via laser powder bed fusion: an in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction study.

We present a systematic microstructure-oriented plasticity investigation of an additively manufactured cobalt-based alloy aiming to relate microstructural changes to the fatigue resistance. A load-controlled cyclic test in the low-cycle fatigue regime was utilized to study mechanical response and microstructural changes in the alloy after reverse phase transformation heat treatment. Deformation-induced FCC → HCP phase transformation was followed using in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction combined with ex situ electron backscatter diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Scanning transmission electron microscopy provided experimental evidence of the presence of precipitates in the solution annealed sample. It was found, that a stepwise increase in plastic deformation is attributed to nucleation and growth of different martensitic crystallographic variants. These insights into plasticity and microstructural changes suggest that the reverse phase transformation heat treatment is an effective approach for improving the fatigue resistance of low stacking fault energy alloys, that are susceptible to deformation-induced martensitic transformation.

Investigation of CuO/ITO Photoelectrode Fabricated by PVD for Efficient Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting and Hydrogen Evolution.

Hydrogen and renewable fuels were generated using cost-effective and efficient electrocatalysts for water splitting. In this work, a CuO-based photocathode is used for the water splitting to generate hydrogen energy by PVD technique. The XRD analysis reveals the deposition of CuO thin film on ITO substrates, which is monoclinic. The XRD and LSV analysis of CuO confirmed the type of semiconductor and observed to be P-type semiconductor. SEM study of CuO confirmed the shape, morphology to be a circular and regular shape. The grain size of deposited CuO thin film was found to be 18 nm. The absorption and transmission of CuO thin film were observed through UV spectroscopy analysis and were found to be better photocatalyst in visible range 415-425 nm. The transmittance of the prepared thin film was noted to be maximum 7.6% in the UV range (280-300 nm). The band gap was also measured employing the Tauc plot and found to be 2.98 eV, which is most favorable for water splitting application. FTIR study showed the stretching, vibration, and the functional group of the deposited CuO thin film; the broad band of stretching of Cu-O in monoclinic CuO was observed at the range of 500-700 cm-1, and further peaks were also noted at the range of 1500-1600 cm-1. The linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) of CuO thin film was calculated in the absence of solar spectra and the presence of solar spectra and observed to be enhanced in current under solar spectra. The solar light to hydrogen emission percentage (STH %) of CuO through LSV was observed to be 2.04% under solar spectra. The low Nyquist curve of blank ITO and CuO-coated ITO substrate via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis was observed, which confirmed the enhancement of EIS of CuO-coated ITO. The hydrogen generation rate was also calculated by electrochemical cell and observed to be 5325.21 mol g-1 for 6 h.

Mercury adsorption study and DFT calculations of sulfur-containing biomass composites prepared by inverse vulcanization

This study introduces an innovative and cost-effective biomass adsorbent, the sulfur/cardanol/potato starch composite (SCP), synthesized through inverse vulcanization for the remediation of mercury-contaminated waters. The SCP was characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) to confirm its composition, morphology, and properties. The adsorption capacity of SCP for Hg(II) was 246.88 mg/g with a removal rate of 98.75 %. Adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order model, indicating chemisorption as the dominant mechanism, while adsorption isotherms were best described by the Langmuir model. Thermodynamic studies confirmed the adsorption process as spontaneous and endothermic. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations further elucidate the interaction mechanisms between mercury and the adsorbent, revealing that the thiyl radicals play a crucial role in the adsorption process. The SCP also exhibited a high selectivity for Hg(II) over other co-existing ions and maintains an adsorption capacity over 223.93 mg/g after five regeneration cycles, thus promising practical applications in environmental mercury management.

Fusarium verticillioides pigment: production, response surface optimization, gamma irradiation and encapsulation studies

BackgroundNatural pigments are becoming more significant because of the rising cost of raw materials, pollution, and the complexity of synthetic pigments. Compared to synthetic pigments, natural pigments exhibit antimicrobial properties and is less allergic. Pigments from microbial sources could easily be obtained in an inexpensive culture media, produced in high yields, and microbes are capable of producing different colored pigments. Searching for new sources for natural pigments to replace synthetic ones in food applications has become an urgent necessity, but the instability of these compounds is sometimes considered one of the obstacles that reduce their application. Encapsulation provides an ideal solution for natural dye protection through a controlled release strategy. Thus, this study aims at isolation of several soil fungi and subsequent screening their pigment production ability. The chosen pigment-producing fungal strain underwent full identification. The produced pigment was extracted with ethyl acetate and estimated spectrophotometrically. As there is a necessity to obtain a high pigment yield for efficient industrial application, the best production medium was tested, optimum conditions for maximum dye production were also investigated through the response surface methodology, and gamma irradiation was also employed to enhance the fungal productivity. Encapsulation of the produced pigment into chitosan microsphere was tested. The pigment release under different pH conditions was also investigated.ResultsA new strain, Fusarium verticillioides AUMC 15934 was chosen and identified for a violet pigment production process. Out of four different media studied, the tested strain grew well on potato dextrose broth medium. Optimum conditions are initial medium pH 8, 25 °C-incubation temperature, and for 15-day incubation period under shaking state. Moreover, a 400 Gy irradiation dose enhanced the pigment production. Chitosan microsphere loaded by the pigment was successfully prepared and characterized by infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy.ConclusionThis irradiated Fusarium strain provides a more economically favorable source for production of a natural violet dye with an optimum productivity, enhanced yield, and improved properties (such as, enhanced stability, controlled release, and bioaccessibility) by encapsulation with chitosan for efficient application in food industry.

Resolving the ongoing confusion between Erigeron multiradiatus and Tibetiodes himalaica (Asteraceae)

Erigeron multiradiatus (Asteraceae: Astereae: Conyzinae) and Tibetiodes himalaica (Asteraceae: Astereae: Asterinae) are often misidentified due to their morphological similarity and variation in some morphological characters. The present communication aims to resolve the identity crisis of these two species based on detailed morphological studies of freshly collected as well as herbarium specimens (including types), SEM studies of cypselas and molecular study with one nuclear and one chloroplast marker (ITS and trnLF). The morphological analysis showed that the two species differ in involucres and flower colour, with very clear differences in macro- and micro-morphological features of the cypselas. The molecular study also showed clear distinction between these two taxa. Additionally, a lectotype is designated for Erigeron multiradiatus.

Green Synthesis of Ag-Doped ZnO Nanoparticles Using Bael (A. marmelos) Leaves for Wastewater Remediation

Abstract The microwave-assisted technique proved highly successful in harnessing the Bael (A. marmelos) tree's natural properties to synthesize Ag-ZnO nanoparticles in an environmentally friendly manner. Through analysis of the various vibration modes evident in the Fourier transform infrared spectra, it became evident that functional groups are present on the nanoparticle surface, showcasing the intricate chemical composition achieved through this innovative synthesis approach. The nanoparticles dimensions, morphology, and surface features were investigated through advanced techniques such as high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Analysis revealed that the synthesized Ag-ZnO nanoparticles typically ranged between 15 to 20 nm in size. When subjected to ultraviolet radiation, the silver-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles demonstrated remarkable photocatalytic prowess, effectively decomposing the dye known as methylene blue. The produced Ag-doped ZnO NPs are very good at reducing dye to 88% in about one hour. Characterization, as well as encouraging photocatalytic and antioxidant qualities, indicate the potential use of these synthesized Ag-doped ZnO NPs for environmental as well as vital uses.

Study of the effect of Adding Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) Extract on the Propoerties of Biodegradable Film from κ-Carrageenan

Carrageenan is a polysaccharide widely used as a material in the packaging industry in search of plastic replacement. κ-Carrageenan contains the lowest amount of sulfat group among other types of carrageenan which makes it the most hydrophobic one. Hence, the most suitable kind for this particular purpose. This research combined commercially available of both κ-Carrageenan and green tea extract (gte) to create a biodegradable film and then to study its characteristics. The concentration of gte was made as 0 µg/mL, 5 µg/mL, and 1 µg/mL while the concentration of κ-Carrageenan and glycerol remained constant. Incorporation of gte produces in darker, colorless film. While there is no effect of gte addition in water content observed, the higher concentration of gte will create a thinner film and lower level of water vapor permeability (WVP). An additional study of the mechanical properties of κ-Carrageenan/gte film indicated a direct proportion between the concentration of gte and tensile strength of the film. Meanwhile, there is no sign of correlation between gte concentration and elongation at break. SEM study displayed a more compact surface with smaller pores when the concentration of gte is increased

Dose and time dependent morphodynamic changes in the ovary of nano-nickel treated rats A SEM study

AimsPresent study demonstrates dose and time dependent effects of NiONPs (<30 nm) on the ovaries of Wistar rat. MethodsFemale rats were gavaged NiONPs or NiOMPs (5 mg/kg b.w.) for 24 h, 15 days and 30 days, euthanized and ovaries thus removed were analyzed for nickel bioaconcentration and processed for scanning electron microscopy. Serum samples were analyzed to compare the effects of nickel nano & microparticles on progesterone and estradiol values. ResultsResults confirmed the bioaccumulation of Ni in ovarian tissue. Its concentration was higher in NiONPs treated rats than NiOMPs treated rats. Progesterone level increased whereas estradiol values decreased in NiONPs and NiOMPs treated rats. SEM results also exhibited dose dependent effects on the morphology of corpoluteal complex. The structural changes varied from formation of blebs to distorted microvilli and germinal epithelium. ConclusionIt is hypothesized that NiONPs/NiOMPs are biodegraded into smaller fragments that conjugate with amino acids and or alter downstream signaling pathways, generate ROS and modulate protein structure activity relationships. Finally, these processes manifest into morphological alterations in the ovary. Biopersistence of nickel in female reproductive system may compromise with fertility and reproductive performance of exposed population.

Analysis of the Impact and Mechanism of Polyacrylate-Based Composite Paste on the Performance of Recycled Aggregate.

This study developed three composite slurries for coating recycled aggregate by incorporating polyacrylate emulsion, fly ash, and gypsum into a cement-based mixture. The filling and pozzolanic effects of fly ash help to improve microcracks in the recycled aggregates. The polyacrylate emulsion forms a strong bonding layer between the cement matrix and the aggregates, enhancing the interfacial bond strength. Based on relevant studies, the following mix designs were developed: Slurry 1 consists of pure cement paste; Slurry 2 contains 15% fly ash and 3% gypsum added to the cement paste; Slurry 3 adds 22% polyacrylate emulsion to the slurry. The study first compared the effects of the three composite slurries on the crushing value and water absorption of recycled aggregates, and then analyzed their impact on the mechanical properties, permeability, and drying shrinkage of concrete. Finally, the mechanisms behind the enhancement were investigated using the Vickers Hardness Test (HV), Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP), and scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). The results showed that the polyacrylate emulsion composite slurry had the most significant improvement effect. For recycled aggregate AL, the crushing value decreased from 28.8% to 22.5% and the saturated surface-dry water absorption decreased from 15.1% to 13.8% after cement slurry modification. After coating with the composite slurry, the crushing value further dropped to 18.2% and the water absorption to 9.5%. Two aspects of the performance of recycled aggregates are enhanced with the polymer composite slurry: first, fly ash provides nucleation sites for CH, reducing the tendency for directional CH alignment. Second, the long chains of PAE (polyacrylic ester) encapsulate cementitious particles, effectively filling surface defects on the recycled aggregates, improving the bonding strength at the new-to-old interface, and significantly enhancing the performance of both recycled aggregates and recycled concrete.
