Research on Reliability Evaluation Methods of Distribution System

Research on reliability of distribution network has very important meaning and function to ensure the quality of power supply. This paper introduces some basic concepts of reliability in distribution network, including distribution network reliability definition, task and index. The classical reliability evaluation method was reviewed, and focused on specific distribution network, an example analysis was given, and specific reliability evaluation indexes were calculated. Finally, the future development of distribution network reliability evaluation was made a simple prospect.

Reliability Evaluation of Distribution Networks Including Micro-Grid Considering Time-Varying Failure Rate

To analyze the impact of components operating environment and micro-grid on the distribution network reliability evaluation, the characteristics of components failure rate changes with operation condition are researched, and the full life cycle of the time-varying failure rate model of non-power components is built; reliability model for co-generation of hybrid, photovoltaic and energy storage system is introduced, as the power output of photovoltaic and hybrid generation is stochastic; the reliability of modified IEEE RBTS is evaluated by the built model and sequential Monte Carlo simulation method after load failure effect table is established by the reachability analysis method, the application of the proposed method to calculation example verifies its effectiveness by comparing and analyzing the reliability indices in different situations.

Reliability Evaluation of Distribution Systems under <i>μ</i> Grid-Tied and Islanded <i>μ</i> Grid Modes Using Monte Carlo Simulation

Reliability evaluation of distribution networks under grid-tied and islanded μ grid modes is presented. The Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) algorithm is applied to a modified RBTS Bus 2 distribution network. The network includes three types of distributed energy resources, namely, solar photovoltaic (PV), wind turbine (WT), and diesel turbine generator (DTG). These distributed generators contribute to supply part of the load during grid-connected mode, but supply 100% of the load in the islanded μ grid mode. A storage system is included to decrease the peak load since the peak of the output power of the PV’s and the peak load do not match time wise in most load profiles. The impact of implementing renewable distributed generation, storage systems, and conventional generation on the reliability of distribution network is studied. This study shows that the penetration of distributed generations can improve the reliability indices of the distribution network.

The Probabilistic Reliability Assessment of Distribution Network Containing Distributed Generation

The access of distributed renewable energy enhances the uncertainty of the distribution network reliability, whereas the distribution network reliability evaluation using existing methods cannot fully reflect the stochastic volatility of islanding power supply and loads. For this reason the approach of active distribution network probabilistic reliability evaluation based on point estimation method was proposed. In the framework of Monte Carlo simulation, the islanding random variable was sampled and processed firstly; then the islanding probabilistic reliability was assessed with a nonlinear transformation method of independent random variables based on point estimate method; finally, system probabilistic reliability indexes can be obtained from the probabilistic superimposing of the results of repeating simulated failures. The simulation on the transformed multi-branch feeder model of the IEEE RBTS Bus6 verifies the validity and accuracy of this assessment approach.

Reliability Evaluation of Distribution Network With DG Considering the Reliability of Protective Devices Affected by SFCL

This paper proposes a reliability model for a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL), which is a new alternative in limiting the fault current recently increasing in a network. An evaluation technique for distribution reliability that uses the improved failure rate of all protective devices in a network, depending on the location of the SFCL, is also proposed. As a result, it is expected that the SFCL makes the reliability of adjacent equipment on an existing network improve, and these changes are analyzed. In addition, in order to apply the effect of the intermittent output of renewable-energy sources, distribution reliability indices were redefined in this paper. Case studies verify that the SFCL is effective in reducing fault currents and improving distribution reliability. These effects are analyzed with respect to the location of the SFCL in a case study system.
