Existence of solutions for infinite systems of regular fractional Sturm-Liouville problems in the spaces of tempered sequences

In this paper we investigate the existence of solutions for infinite systems of regular fractional Sturm-Liouville problems by an application of Meir-Keeler fixed point theorem in the tempered sequence spaces. We provide examples to check validity of our obtained results.

Variational Approximation for Fractional Sturm–Liouville Problem

Abstract In this paper, we consider a regular Fractional Sturm–Liouville Problem (FSLP) of order μ (0 < μ < 1). We approximate the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the problem using a fractional variational approach. Recently, Klimek et al. [16] presented the variational approach for FSLPs defined in terms of Caputo derivatives and obtained eigenvalues, eigenfunctions for a special range of fractional order 1/2 < μ < 1. Here, we extend the variational approach for the FSLPs and approximate the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the FSLP for fractional-order μ (0 < μ < 1). We also prove that the FSLP has countably infinite eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions.

Numerical approximation to Prabhakar fractional Sturm–Liouville problem

In this paper, we treat a numerical scheme for the regular fractional Sturm–Liouville problem containing the Prabhakar fractional derivatives with the mixed boundary conditions. We show that the eigenfunctions corresponding to distinct numerical eigenvalues are orthogonal in the Hilbert spaces. The numerical errors and convergence rates are also investigated. Further, we consider a space-fractional diffusion equation and study the associated fractional Sturm–Liouville problem along with the convergence analysis.

Exact and numerical solutions of the fractional Sturm–Liouville problem

Abstract In the paper, we discuss the regular fractional Sturm-Liouville problem in a bounded domain, subjected to the homogeneous mixed boundary conditions. The results on exact and numerical solutions are based on transformation of the differential fractional Sturm-Liouville problem into the integral one. First, we prove the existence of a purely discrete, countable spectrum and the orthogonal system of eigenfunctions by using the tools of Hilbert-Schmidt operators theory. Then, we construct a new variant of the numerical method which produces eigenvalues and approximate eigenfunctions. The convergence of the procedure is controlled by using the experimental rate of convergence approach and the orthogonality of eigenfunctions is preserved at each step of approximation. In the final part, the illustrative examples of calculations and estimation of the experimental rate of convergence are presented.

First, we prove, using the spectral theory of linear compact operators, that this problem has an infinite sequence of real eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions form a complete orthonormal system in the Hilbert space $L^{2}_q[a,b]$. Then, we investigate some asymptotic properties of the spectrum as $\alpha \underset {\lt }{\rightarrow } 1$. We give, in particular, the asymptotic expansion of the first eigenvalue.

Fractional Sturm–Liouville eigen-problems: Theory and numerical approximation

We first consider a regular fractional Sturm–Liouville problem of two kinds RFSLP-I and RFSLP-II of order ν∈(0,2). The corresponding fractional differential operators in these problems are both of Riemann–Liouville and Caputo type, of the same fractional order μ=ν/2∈(0,1). We obtain the analytical eigensolutions to RFSLP-I & -II as non-polynomial functions, which we define as Jacobi poly-fractonomials. These eigenfunctions are orthogonal with respect to the weight function associated with RFSLP-I & -II. Subsequently, we extend the fractional operators to a new family of singular fractional Sturm–Liouville problems of two kinds, SFSLP-I and SFSLP-II. We show that the primary regular boundary-value problems RFSLP-I & -II are indeed asymptotic cases for the singular counterparts SFSLP-I & -II. Furthermore, we prove that the eigenvalues of the singular problems are real-valued and the corresponding eigenfunctions are orthogonal. In addition, we obtain the eigen-solutions to SFSLP-I & -II analytically, also as non-polynomial functions, hence completing the whole family of the Jacobi poly-fractonomials. In numerical examples, we employ the new poly-fractonomial bases to demonstrate the exponential convergence of the approximation in agreement with the theoretical results.

Regular Fractional Sturm-Liouville Problem with Generalized Derivatives of Order in (0,1)

In this paper, we define a Generalized Fractional Sturm-Liouville Operator (GFSLO) and introduce a regular Generalized Fractional Sturm-Liouville Problem. In the construction of the operator and the problem, we apply a generalized fractional derivatives built using a general kernel. We investigate the properties of the eigenfunctions and the eigenvalues of the GFSLO, and demonstrate that these properties are analogous to those for classical Sturm-Liouville Operator dependent on first-order derivatives. As an example, we study the case when the integrals and the resulting derivatives are built using the generalized Mittag-Leffler function as a kernel.
