Mining Linguistic Styles in Bilateral Matching: A Contrastive Learning Approach to Reciprocal Recommendation

Reciprocal recommendation systems are crucial for online dating platforms to provide quality matches and reduce choice overload. However, the design of reciprocal recommendation systems grapples with the challenges of estimating interpersonal compatibility and predicting the likelihood that two prospective partners will accept each other. Furthermore, despite the crucial role of users’ linguistic styles in determining user match decision-making, the contemporary design of such recommendation systems has not yet effectively incorporated this information. To bridge these gaps, we develop an end-to-end personalized Linguistic Style Matching-based Reciprocal Recommendation System (LS-RRS). We propose cross-user and within-user contrastive learning strategies combined with random masking to extract users’ linguistic styles and further integrate visual and textual information using an efficient convolution block. LS-RRS further models the matching probability using a conditional probability function and introduces a preference inflation factor on the receiver side to account for the asymmetric roles of the bilateral sides. The proposed model addresses the challenge of incorporating users’ linguistic styles into reciprocal recommendation and details the modeling of the two-stage matching process. Extensive experiments show that LS-RRS outperforms state-of-the-art models in recommendation performance, with a 29.35% increase in NDCG@10 when incorporating linguistic styles. Our follow-up analyses further validate the importance and effectiveness of the linguistic style extraction design through word-level and sentence-level visualizations, as well as qualitative case studies. This research contributes to the literature on reciprocal recommendation and offers a viable solution for alleviating user choice overload on online dating platforms.

An Algorithmic Audit of Online Matrimonial Platforms in India: Biases in Matchmaking Recommendation Systems

Online matrimonial platforms enable people to discover prospective partners who mutually meet each other’s preference criteria. Matrimonial relations in the Indian context have traditionally been considered as a union of two families, where a variety of attributes like age and income, and family preferences such as religious beliefs and class and caste hierarchies are matched, making it a complex process. Many such preferences may, however, be considered regressive and arising from entrenched biased social norms, and online matrimonial platforms may reinforce such biases through rule-based and machine-learning based algorithms. Some such norms for opposite sex matching preferences are for males to match with females having an income lower than them, and similarly to match with females having an age lower than them. Such norms are arguably biased and may reinforce gender-based inequalities, for example, where females may marry young while males build their careers. Online matrimonial platforms may present multiple opportunities to counter such biased social norms, ranging from setting up dedicated platforms that do not factor such variables and relationships, or deliberately constrain search and recommendation results by adhering to certain fairness criteria, or provide transparency and algorithmic control to users to govern their selection criteria. In this paper, we begin with conducting an algorithmic audit of recommendations generated on two popular online platforms in India about whether they echo and reinforce these norms. We find that indeed they do, likely by not attempting to correct for them, and we also propose and evaluate alternative algorithms that can yield fairness aware recommendations while simultaneously satisfying user preferences. Our study is an attempt to highlight that designers and managers of such platforms can be transparent about ideological choices they make of norms they support or counter, so that platforms built and managed by them can offer agency to users to receive recommendations based on their preferences. At the same time, we acknowledge that being able to represent in data various societal norms and individual preferences in all their complexity may always remain incomplete, and consequently any attempts to counter biases will be limited in their impact as well. However, since datafication continues to encompass more and more domains, and digital platforms continue to algorithmize and intermediate many personal and group processes, we feel our study is relevant to highlight a new application domain that has significant societal implications on gender and related equalities but has not been studied extensively so far.

Stakeholders’ perceptions on the role of professional sports clubs in local community health promotion

Charitable arms of professional sports clubs and organizations (PSCOs) offer a range of health promotion (HP) programmes within communities, yet little is known about their role within approaches to HP, particularly from the view of key intersectoral partners. Our study explored the perceptions of the role of PSCOs within local approaches to HP from the perspective of multisectoral stakeholders in a southwest region of England. A qualitative single case study approach was implemented, undertaking semi-structured interviews (n = 23) with intersectoral stakeholders spanning the sport, public, voluntary, and health sectors. Findings suggest PSCOs were viewed as important organizations for provision of local HP due to their unique assets, such as stadia, branding, coaching staff and their presence within communities. However, their aims and objectives were unclear to stakeholders and often perceived as motivated by ‘brand drivers’ of the elite club, despite holding independent charitable status. Moreover, stakeholders were generally unaware of evaluation materials created by PSCOs and favoured the development of a co-produced evaluation framework for PSCOs. In conclusion, PSCOs should utilize existing community forums, networks, and working groups to better communicate organizational structure, aims, and provision amongst prospective partners. Better understanding of PSCOs structures and aims would support understanding of organizational readiness and requirements for future collaboration in intersectoral approaches to local HP. Moreover, local policymakers should consider how mutually beneficial partnerships with PSCOs could be formed, and how the unique assets, and reach, of PSCOs can be best utilized within intersectoral approaches to local HP.

APPLICATION OF ARTICLE 27 PARAGRAPH (2) OF THE MARRIAGE LAW ON THE MISCONCEPTION OF THE APPLICANT IN MARRIAGE ANNULMENT

This study aims to analyze the application and interpretation of the norms of Article 27 paragraph (2) of the Marriage Law regarding misconception in a petition for annulment of marriage. The problems examined in this study are how the norms of misconception are applied in the application for annulment of marriage and how misconception is interpreted in the application for annulment of marriage. This writing uses normative juridical legal research methods. The approach method used is the statutory approach and case approach. The sources of legal materials used in this research are primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials. Data collection uses qualitative data analysis methods. The results of this study indicate that the application of the norm of misconception can be used to annul a marriage and must meet the time period set by law. Misconception can be interpreted as a mistake in assessing the identity of the spouse from what is in fact to what is not in accordance with reality and misjudging the spouse's personal condition from normal to abnormal. This study recommends the need for the parties to find out carefully and thoroughly about themselves, including the identity and condition of the partner by utilizing taaruf as a process of getting to know each other before heading to the level of marriage, and the parties also need to find out information about themselves to other parties such as friends and family of the prospective partner.

Transborder Raw Materials Toll Manufacturing Agreement: Prospective Partners in the Greater Eurasian Partnership

INTRODUCTION. In the context of enhancing regional integration the legal regulation of international energy cooperation receives a new interpretation in the texts of agreements being signed. This study combines the legal and economic aspects of developing such cooperation. The purpose of the study is to identify potential partners for Russia in terms of practical implementation of raw materials toll manufacturing in the field of oil and natural gas processing among the participants of the Greater Eurasian Partnership, as well as to assess the existing regulatory field. To achieve the aim of the study, the author proposes to classify the countries of Greater Eurasia into groups, and to analyze the readiness of the most promising prospective partners legal frameworks for the implementation of the corresponding cross-border projects.MATERIALS AND METHODS. The methodological basis of the research is grounded in a formal dogmatic approach to the interpretation of international legal acts currently regulating certain aspects of the implementation of cross-border raw materials toll manufacturing. Economic analysis of law is applied to classify prospective partners by the level of economic integration to identify those with whom the author considers it practical to enhance the legal regulation of raw materials toll manufacturing in the field of energy cooperation. Cross-border raw materials toll manufacturing is presented in the context of monism and dualism in international law.RESEARCH RESULTS. As the result, the author identifies four prospective areas for cooperation, namely Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan and China. At the same time, with Belarus and Kazakhstan, the regulatory field is being actively developed, which is associated with certain aspects of the raw materials toll manufacturing being regulated at the level of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), while the international legal basis for such cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan is practically absent, and between Russia and China it is at the initial stage of formation, but compared to the law of the EAEU it is developed to a much lesser extent. From the viewpoint of private law regulation, there are a number of features of regulation at the national level, and that does not allow us to talk about harmonized approach.DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. In order to intensify the pace of energy cooperation within the framework of cross-border raw materials toll manufacturing with these countries, the author suggests to focus on the already established law-making and law enforcement practices, by including the necessary norms in the EAEU Treaty or developing acts of doctrinal legal nature that are necessary for harmonization, since at the moment the plan to develop a distinct multilateral agreement for international legal regulation of transborder raw materials toll manufacturing will be difficult to implement.

Nikah dalam Lamaran Orang

Bondage status is the position of an individual which is determined based on relationships with other individuals in society who provide goods or a sum of money to be used as a bond at the proposal event so that no one can take the woman who has been proposed to. A sermon is a request from a man to a woman to become his wife, in ways that generally apply in society. This research aims to explain the definition of khitbah, its requirements, the views of the ulama, including the opinions of Jumhur and Imam Malik, as well as the causes of differences of opinion among the ulama. It was found that the sermon is a recommendation of Islamic law which provides space for prospective partners to get to know and understand each other. Some ulama view khitbah as sunnah, while the prohibition on applying for someone else's proposal is considered haram according to the majority of ulama, with certain exceptions. This study concludes the importance of maintaining ethics in sermons to create a harmonious marital relationship, in accordance with Islamic values.

Přístup singles k seznamování v digitální době

This text focuses on the attitudes of single young people on dating. As a part of this study, twenty interviews with respondents between the ages of 20 and 40 – who loosely represent the generation of millennials, that is, those who grew up with technology and who are taking advantage of the globalized world – were analysed using thematic analysis. Using semi-structured interviews, this text critically examines how young singles think about mate selection, where they meet prospective partners, and their reasons for choosing online dating sites. Another area of interest are the barriers to using dating services and the behaviour of singles on dating sites, especially regarding sex dynamics. The results correspond to previous findings from studies conducted abroad. On the one hand, a liberal, individualized approach to relationships is evident among the respondents: they focus on their needs within a relationship, they want a partner with whom they will develop mutually, they have a desire to experiment with different relationship forms, and they quickly adopt new technologies when dating. On the other hand, they are still attracted to the traditional ideal of marriage and family, the expectations of men and women within a relationship differ, and even in modern online dating, traditional sex patterns appear.

The role of facial cues in signalling cooperativeness is limited and nuanced

Humans display a remarkable tendency to cooperate with strangers; however, identifying prospective cooperation partners accurately before entering any new relationship is essential to mitigate the risk of being exploited. Visual appearance, as inferrable, for example, from facial images on job portals and dating sites, may serve as a potential signal of cooperativeness. This experimental study examines whether static images enable the correct detection of an individual’s propensity to cooperate. Participants first played the Prisoner’s Dilemma (PD) game, a standard cooperation task. Subsequently, they were asked to predict the cooperativeness of participants from a prior PD study relying solely on their static facial photographs. While our main results indicate only marginal accuracy improvements over random guessing, a more detailed analysis reveals that participants were more successful at identifying cooperative tendencies similar to their own. Despite no detectable main effect in our primary treatment variations (time pressure versus time delay), participants exhibited increased accuracy in identifying male cooperators under time pressure. These findings point towards a limited yet nuanced role of static facial images in predicting cooperativeness, advancing our understanding of non-behavioral cues in cooperative interactions.

Self‐concept clarity and the evaluation and selection of incompatible dating partners

Abstract Romantic compatibility is theorized to play a crucial role in the success and stability of romantic relationships, although evidence to date has been somewhat indirect. Previous experimental findings suggest that those lower, relative to higher, in self‐concept clarity find it more challenging to evaluate similarity (i.e., a contributor to compatibility) in prospective romantic partners. The current research extends these findings by directly examining self‐concept clarity and romantic partner (in)compatibility in real‐world experiences. Across two retrospective studies (N = 340), we found that those lower, relative to higher, in self‐concept clarity dated incompatible others more frequently, experienced greater difficulty judging compatibility, and were less decisive in their dating decisions. They also experienced greater dating‐related negative affect but did not report lower satisfaction in past dating. Exploratory mediation analyses further suggest that such individuals experienced greater dating‐related negative affect through dating incompatible others more often. Specifically, they were more likely to date incompatible others if they found it harder to judge compatibility and were less decisive in dating. These results suggest that individuals with a confused personal identity (i.e., low in self‐concept clarity) may find it more challenging to evaluate potential dating partners, leading them to rule out incompatible ones less often.

Recalibrating Moscow’s Strategies in Asia Russia and Southeast Asia in a Multipolar World

Russia’s partnership with China acted as a strategic cushion for the country’s leadership to launch the military operation in Ukraine. At the same time, warm relations with long-term allies in Asia reinforced Russia’s decision to make such a dangerous move and take the risks of being cut-off financially from the West. In this sense, relations not only with China but with other Asian middle and small powers is crucial for Russia’s development in the upcoming years. Southeast Asia appears to be one of the most important prospective partners. Russia-Southeast Asia relations shows that despite evident achievements in various spheres, Russia’s plans in the region remain unsubstantiated in terms of policies and lack a comprehensive strategy. Ultimately, Russia has first to determine to what extent it is serious on its “reorientation” to Asia and what it expects from it, and whether it is ready to recalibrate substantially its relationship with Southeast Asia.

Study On Analysis Of Pre-Marriage Couple's Perceptions Of Partnership Gender In The Domestic Areas In Yogyakarta

The COVID-19 pandemic, which has occurred, followed by a global crisis and the issue of recession in various parts of the world, including Indonesia, has had a vulnerable impact on family resilience. This can be seen from the phenomenon of a significant increase in the prevalence of divorce from 291,677 in 2020, which increased by 53% to 447,743 in 2021, which places Indonesia as the country with the highest prevalence of divorce in Asia-Africa. This is directly proportional to the high prevalence of single parents, which places Indonesia in the second-highest position in the world with fatherless countries and DI. Yogyakarta ranks third highest in Indonesia. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Religion, the phenomenon of divorce is dominated by contested divorce from wives, namely 73.7%, with the reason being ongoing disputes at 62.4%. Various factors, including gender inequality in the domestic sphere, cause the disputes. The research method used was qualitative, with an explanatory research approach to 34 informants who were prospective premarital couples in the KUA Depok Yogyakarta work area. Data was collected through FGDs and deep interviews to explore prospective partners' perceptions of gender partnership in the family—purposive sampling technique according to inclusion criteria. Data analysis uses phenomenological studies, including data familiarization through identifying thematic frameworks, data indexation, coding and charting, and data interpretation carried out independently by the researcher. The research results show that the lowest knowledge of respondents regarding family functions is the socio-cultural function, namely ten respondents (29.41%), followed by the coaching function, namely 14 respondents (41.17%), and the reproductive function, namely 16 respondents (47.06%).

Mate choice in the brain: species differ in how male traits 'turn on' gene expression in female brains.

Mate choice plays a fundamental role in speciation, yet we know little about the molecular mechanisms that underpin this crucial decision-making process. Stickleback fish differentially adapted to limnetic and benthic habitats are reproductively isolated and females of each species use different male traits to evaluate prospective partners and reject heterospecific males. Here, we integrate behavioural data from a mate choice experiment with gene expression profiles from the brains of females actively deciding whether to mate. We find substantial gene expression variation between limnetic and benthic females, regardless of behavioural context, suggesting general divergence in constitutive gene expression patterns, corresponding to their genetic differentiation. Intriguingly, female gene co-expression modules covary with male display traits but in opposing directions for sympatric populations of the two species, suggesting male displays elicit a dynamic neurogenomic response that reflects known differences in female preferences. Furthermore, we confirm the role of numerous candidate genes previously implicated in female mate choice in other species, suggesting evolutionary tinkering with these conserved molecular processes to generatedivergent mate preferences. Taken together, our study adds important new insights to our understanding of the molecular processes underlying female decision-making critical for generating sexual isolation and speciation.

The Potential of Forest Betel Weed as Raw Materials for Botanical Pesticides in West Sumatra

Forest betel (Piper aduncum) includes weed plants from the Piperaceae family that can be used as the main ingredient in the manufacture of environmentally friendly pest control technology, also known as botanical pesticides. Botanical pesticides from P. aduncum have the active compound dillapiol, which can control pests in various plants, especially horticulture. Commercialization of botanical pesticides needs to be done because the product meets the standards for pest control and is available in sufficient quantities on the market. The partnership was initiated by involving local communities as providers of raw materials. Surian area, Solok Regency, West Sumatra, Indonesia, has an area where P. aduncum plants dominate, so it has the potential to provide raw materials. Socialization activities about the potential of forest betel fruit or P. aduncum were given to prospective partner communities. Furthermore, training activities on handling P. aduncum fruit were also provided so that partners had sufficient knowledge and skills to proceed. At the same time, an analysis of P. aduncum fruit extract from the Surian area was also carried out. Sampling was carried out in the Surian area, and then the material was sorted, dried, refined, sieved, maserase, and extracted. Identification of dillapiol content was carried out using GC-MS. The analysis results showed that P. aduncum fruit extract was known to have an average yield of 0.1% with a dillapiol content of 12.23% at a retention time of 19.925 minutes.

(117) EVALUATING THE USE OF THE FEMALE SEXUAL HEALTH AFTER CANCER SCREENING CHECKLIST WITH YOUNG ADULT CANCER SURVIVORS

Abstract Introduction Sexual health, a key component of general well-being and quality of life, is often significantly disrupted by cancer treatment. In particular, when patients undergo cancer treatment early in life, disruptions to physical, sexual, and social development can have a considerable impact on sexual health by the time survivors reach young adulthood. However, extant sexual health measures are primarily intended for sexually active adults and do not accurately capture the range of sexual health concerns experienced by young adult cancer survivors (YACS). In order to provide comprehensive sexual health screening and care for this vulnerable population, measures must be developed specifically for young survivors. This study represents a critical next step in measure development for YACS: evaluating the utility and gaps of an existing sexual health screening checklist for cancer survivors. Objective To elicit feedback from female YACS regarding how the Female Sexual Health After Cancer Checklist captures their sexual health concerns as well as how the checklist may be updated for this population. Methods Cognitive interviews were conducted with 17 female YACS (ages 23-39). Participants were presented with the Female Sexual Health After Cancer Checklist and asked to provide feedback on each item. Specifically, Willis’s Concurrent Verbal Probing Technique was used to gather information on relevance of each item to YACS, item comprehension, item acceptability, decision processes, and response processes. For example, participants were asked whether the checklist items accurately captured their sexual health concerns (i.e., response processes). Results Overall, young adult participants reported that checklist items were relevant to their sexual health concerns. However, several participants noted wording for two items seemed to assess change in symptoms after cancer (e.g., “decreased vaginal lubrication”) which is difficult for YACS to answer if their cancer occurred prior to becoming sexually active. More broadly, participants reported that the checklist failed to capture many of their most pressing concerns (e.g., delays in sexual and romantic experience). Additionally, participants felt it would be important to assess barriers to sexual and romantic relationships such as negative body image and difficulty explaining cancer history to a prospective partner. Sexually inactive participants, in particular, noted adding items about barriers to sexual and romantic relationships would make the checklist more applicable to them. Conclusions Findings suggest that existing measures, such as the Female Sexual Health After Cancer Checklist, may be a starting point for a targeted YACS’ sexual health measure. However, revision and addition of items is necessary to fully capture the needs of this younger population. As a next step, we are currently amending items based on participant feedback. For example, items implying change after cancer (e.g., “decreased vaginal lubrication”) will be updated to focus on current symptoms (e.g., “vaginal dryness”) to better apply to YACS who were treated before sexual debut. Items capturing delays in sexual and romantic experience will also be added. Revised and new items will then be gathered into an item pool for further revision by YACS and sexual health experts as part of the process of creating and validating a YACS’ specific sexual health measure. A bibliometric and visualization analysis of research trends and hotspots on targeted therapy for breast cancer from 2003 to 2022.

Breast cancer is a significant public health issue, exhibiting the most pronounced occurrence and fatality rates among malignant neoplasms globally. Targeted therapy is a medical intervention that focuses on specific molecular markers. This study aims to investigate and evaluate the current research trends and directions in the field of targeted therapy for breast cancer using bibliometric analysis. The Web of Science database was utilized to retrieve relevant articles published between 2003 and 2022. The VOSviewer software and Bibliometrix package in the R language were employed to conduct co-occurrence and clustering analyses of authors, countries, institutions, journals, references, and the CiteSpace tool was utilized for keyword burst detection. A total of 2,258 articles were included and the annual number of publications increased rapidly. The most prolific country on this topic was the USA (n=898, 39.77%) and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center published most papers (n=93). Dennis J. Slamon and Gabriel N. Hortobagyi stood out in the field, with Dennis J. Slamon leading in terms of co-citations(n=653) and Gabriel N. Hortobagyi topping the list in terms of published articles(n=18). The most productive journal was Breast Cancer Research and Treatment and the most cited journal was Journal of Clinical Oncology. The clustering of keywords indicated that the primary focus of researches in the past two decades was on the development and clinical evaluation of tumor-targeted drugs associated with the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) family signaling pathway, and explored mechanisms related to biological behavior of breast cancer. Keywords co-occurrence and burst analysis identified current research hotspots and potential research trends. This study employed bibliometric analysis to examine research on targeted therapy for breast cancer over a span of 20 years, and identified development trends of research and elucidated potential research trajectories in the domain of this topic. This study helps in the identification of prospective collaborators and partner institutions for researchers.
