PT. Jastipman Jakarta to Anambas Islands in Riau is a company engaged in the delivery service industry. The use of manual recording systems in the delivery process has a significant impact on the company's performance and customer satisfaction. As a company providing delivery services, all activities must always be timely and there should be no delays in the services provided, especially in the delivery process. The research method used in creating this proposal report is through observation directly at the research site, and the Waterfall method is a basic process that involves specification, development, validation, solution, and represents it as different process phases such as specification requirements, software design, implementation, and testing. The system design will be explained in the proposed system procedures, the proposed system procedures will be implemented using UML, the database design, the proposed system interface design, the proposed system configuration, the proposed implementation, and blackbox testing. The implementation of an information system for delivery services can improve the company's performance by making the delivery process easier to process and making it easier for customers to obtain information about their shipment through the tracking feature using the provided tracking number. Design of Wind-Solar-Diesel-Battery Hybrid Power System

In order to solve the problem of electricity from the grid, designing a set of independent power supply system based on micro-network technology, through the use of solar, wind, diesel, battery, etc. This paper introduces the structure and working principle of the system, focuses on the design of the control system to meet under no circumstances, intelligent control of the entire system to make it stable operation, and optimization method proposed system configuration.

Electric Propulsion Naval Ships with Energy Storage Modules through AFE Converters

This paper proposes a novel electric propulsion system for naval ships, which consists of Active Front End (AFE) converters directly connected to battery Energy Storage Modules (ESMs). Employing the proposed AFE converters with ESMs in the power systems of naval ships can enhance the reliability and quality of the electric power. Furthermore, the fuel-efficiency of the generator can be improved by a higher loading factor of the generator and its prime movers. The proposed AFE configuration does not require an additional dedicated DC/AC converter for the ESMs. Instead of that, the AFE converter itself can control the DC link voltage and the discharging and/or charging of the ESMs. A control scheme to achieve these control objectives is also presented in this paper. The overall power system, including the generators and electrical loads of a naval ship, is implemented by a small scaled Power Hardware-In-the-Loop (PHIL) simulator. Through this experimental setup, the proposed system configuration and the power control strategies are verified. It is shown that the fuel-efficiency and transient dynamics can be improved in the normal and contingency operation modes.

A novel heavy-weight shock test machine for simulating underwater explosive shock environment: Mathematical modeling and mechanism analysis

A novel heavy-duty shock test machine is developed to satisfy the newly-built shock resistance standard and simulate accurately the actual underwater explosive environments with increased testing capability. The mathematical model for the shock test machine is created to predict its dynamic performance and analyze its mechanism. Then numerical simulation is carried out to evaluate the prospective capability of the shock test machine under different shock velocity inputs. The double protection system incorporating the stroke limit of the accumulator piston and the unloading circuit can effectively prevent the secondary collision in the testing process. The simulation results have demonstrated that the shock test machine proposed in this paper can produce nearly the same shock acceleration waveform as the new shock resistance standard BV043/85 and MIL-S-901D. Moreover, this shock test machine can be regulated conveniently to adjust to a different type of equipment and be extended easily to suit more severe shock environments and heavier equipment. The proposed system configuration and associated mathematical model provide theoretical basis and useful design techniques for practical applications.

Light-folded projection three-dimensional display

A light-folded projection three-dimensional (3D) display system with a single projection lens and a rectangular light tunnel which is composed of four folding mirrors on its inside walls is proposed. It is theoretically shown through the Wigner distribution function analysis that the proposed system can generate the same light field effectively as that of the conventional projection-type multiview 3D display system with plural projection lenses. Multiview 3D imaging of the proposed system configuration is experimentally demonstrated.

Feasibility of Interconnected Distribution Network for the Integration of Distributed Energy Resources Using GA Approach

This paper envisages the feasibility of proposed power system configuration, which aspires at maximizing the electricity generation from green energy sources and furthermore to initiate the involvement of the consumers. Once the proposed distribution network configuration implemented, a power system based on distributed energy generation technologies is likely to be able to provide opportunities for sustainable development. Main objectives of the proposed network configuration are increased penetration of distributed generation (DGs) and decarbonization of electric utility. The IEEE-14 bus with proposed configuration has been simulated using MATLAB Simulink, which shows that interconnection of distribution networks allow the operation of centralized electricity generation and distributed energy generation efficiently. In this paper, Completely beyond the existing conventional Guard Light management system, introduced the 447Mhz band wireless sensor network Guard Light to manage efficiently the shape of the new system is proposed. In addition, about wireless sensor network technology, control server technology, application layer protocol technology etc which is core technology for the proposed system configuration, it was verified by the design and experiment. Especially studying wireless Guard Light System(about 1,700 node configuration) commercially installed in the Daegu area as a results of the study, I would like to prove the effectiveness of the study.

This paper presents the complete model and design of a grid-connected Photovoltaic (PV) system to supply electric power for an apartment in new Assiut city, Assiut province, Egypt according to its energy requirements. This system can be installed on the roof and the south side of the building. Homer software is used as the sizing and optimization tool to determine the size and specifications requirements of photovoltaic system components, system cost and estimation of corresponding produced electrical power. Simulation results and analyses are presented to validate the proposed system configuration.

Investigating the energy autonomy of very small non-interconnected islands: A case study: Agathonisi, Greece

Increase in global energy demand, depletion of fossil fuels and environmental issues related to current major power generation patterns have proven to be highly effective drivers for a substantial shift towards renewable energy applications. Renewable energy sources (RES) such as wind, solar and biomass can provide reliable energy services and direct benefits at both national and local levels. Nowadays, in most non-interconnected islands the electricity generation cost is extremely high due to the utilization of outdated autonomous power stations (APSs) based on oil-fuel imports and diesel-electric generators. The objective of the present work is to investigate the possibility of achieving energy autonomy in very small (tiny) islands based exclusively on the use of RES. For that reason, a small Aegean Sea island (i.e. Agathonisi) which faces serious energy and water shortage problems is investigated. The proposed system configuration includes commercial wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, batteries and an internal combustion-electrical generator consuming biogas. The excess electricity is used for fresh water production via sea water desalination. Emphasis is given on a detailed energy analysis being the basis for sustainable development. The results obtained highlight the feasibility and competitiveness of the proposed system configuration in comparison to the current situation.

Modeling and simulation of a 100 kWe HT-PEMFC subsystem integrated with an absorption chiller subsystem

A 100 kWe liquid-cooled HT-PEMFC subsystem is integrated with an absorption chiller subsystem to provide electricity and cooling. The system is designed, modeled and simulated to investigate the potential of this technology for future novel energy system applications. Liquid-cooling can provide better temperature control and is preferable for middle-scale transport applications, such as commercial vessels, because stack cooling can be achieved within smaller volumes. A commercial ship requiring cooling and electricity is taken as the case study for the application of the proposed system. All system components are described and analyzed in detail, in terms of modeling assumptions and configuration topology. The results show the conceptual feasibility of the proposed system configuration, since high net electrical efficiencies are accomplished. The calculated net electrical efficiency is 43.8% for a net electrical power output of 100 kWe. The heat exhausted to the absorption chiller subsystem is 107 kW and can satisfy a cooling duty of up to 128 or 64.5 kW for a LiBr–water double-effect system or a water–NH3 single-effect system, respectively. Finally, the projected total cost is comparable to conventional systems, i.e., diesel engines integrated with vapor-compression chillers, and therefore justifies further development of the proposed system.

Rapid Method to Screen Unopened Bottles to Detect Concealed Drugs

A bottle screening method to detect smuggling drugs was developed based on a series of rapid and automated magnetic resonance measurements. Liquid alteration is detected by evaluating chemical and physical properties of the liquid, scanning the bottle with a compact, non-contact magnetic resonance probe. Chemical and molecular diffusion changes are detected by means of the magnetic resonance relaxation time. The inspection device automatically detects the presence of concealed powders dissolved in liquids in a second timescale. The non-ionizing, non-contact method effectively screens bottles, regardless of their shape, size, and color. The proposed system configuration does not require a large magnet generating uniform magnetic fields; rather it inspects the liquid using a compact probe positioned on the wall of the bottle. For a variety of samples tested, the screening does not require detailed information on the expected content of the bottle.

Multiobjective Optimization of a Hydrogen Production System with Low CO2 Emissions

Since the steam methane reforming usually increases the temperature of stream and concentration of CO2, this work introduces a CO2 reformer that can produce syngas by consuming CH4 and CO2. In the proposed configuration, a CO2 reformer is directly added between the steam methane reforming (SMR) process and a high-temperature shift (HTS) converter. To pursue the process optimization with respect to maximizing hydrogen production and minimizing carbon dioxide emission, a nondominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II) is employed to solve a constrained multiobjective optimization (MOO) problem. Finally, the proposed system configuration with heat recovery manner is validated by an Aspen HYSYS simulator.

Optimization of a methane autothermal reforming-based hydrogen production system with low CO2 emissions

The aim of this work is to develop a hydrogen production system with respect to saving energy and reducing carbon dioxide. Methane and carbon dioxide are major feedstocks of an autothermal reformer (ATR) and a CO2 reformer, respectively. The waste heat recovery technique is applied to build a stand-alone ideal heat-integrated system. The proposed system configuration and optimal operating conditions are verified with the Aspen HYSYS® simulator.

Image reconstruction from limited angle projections collected by multisource interior x-ray imaging systems

A multisource x-ray interior imaging system with limited angle scanning is investigated to study the possibility of building an ultrafast micro-CT for dynamic small animal imaging, and two methods are employed to perform interior reconstruction from a limited number of projections collected by the multisource interior x-ray system. The first is total variation minimization with the steepest descent search (TVM-SD) and the second is total difference minimization with soft-threshold filtering (TDM-STF). Comprehensive numerical simulations and animal studies are performed to validate the associated reconstructed methods and demonstrate the feasibility and application of the proposed system configuration. The image reconstruction results show that both of the two reconstruction methods can significantly improve the image quality and the TDM-SFT is slightly superior to the TVM-SD. Finally, quantitative image analysis shows that it is possible to make an ultrafast micro-CT using a multisource interior x-ray system scheme combined with the state-of-the-art interior tomography.

Spectral Resolution of the Grating Coupler of a Miniaturized Integrated Evanescent Field IR Absorption Sensor

Aiming at a handheld sensor to characterize chemical compositions, we propose a fully integrated absorption sensor based on infrared (IR) absorption in the evanescent field region of an integrated monomode waveguide utilizing thermally generated and detected IR radiation. For the coupling, two grating couplers are employed, which couple broadband thermal IR radiation into the waveguide and the attenuated IR radiation at the waveguide output toward a thermal IR detector, respectively. To achieve a spectroscopic measurement, we utilize the dispersive feature of the grating coupler, which couples the IR beams out of the waveguide at angles depending on the wavelength. Depending on the application, the spectral resolution might be more or less critical. In this paper, we report on the design of the grating couplers associated with the proposed system configuration influencing the spectral resolution. We also show measurements confirming the results obtained by numerical simulations aiming at the investigation of the dispersive feature of the grating couplers.

The effects of power control on the optical CDMA random access protocol

In this work, the performance of the hybrid system that combines the distributed power control algorithm (DPCA) with the random access protocol as a novel and simple scheme of achieving a high performance in decentralized optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) networks has been investigated. The multiple access interference (MAI) and the near–far problem effects have been considered. The DPCA’s advantage lies in its characteristics being effectively implemented to each node, since only local parameters are necessary. The principal results have shown that the network throughput and delay are strongly affected by the near–far problem and the DPCA works to solve this problem. Hence, the introduction of a certain level of the power control to the random access temporally coded (1D) or the time-wavelength coded (2D) OCDMA networks has demonstrated profitability of the throughput increase and the delay reduction. As a consequence, the proposed system configuration with the DPCA using a very low number of iterations has resulted in a better throughput and simultaneously in a delay decrease when compared to the system without power control mechanisms.

Enhanced monopulse tracking radar using optimum fractional Fourier transform

Conventional monopulse radar processors are used to track a target that appears in the look direction beam width. The distortion produced when additional targets appear in the look direction beam width can cause severe erroneous outcomes from the monopulse processor. This leads to errors in the target tracking angles that may cause target mistracking. A new signal processing algorithm is presented in this study which offers a solution to this problem. The technique is based on the use of optimal fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) filtering. The relative performance of the new filtering method over traditional-based methods is assessed using standard deviation angle estimation error (STDAE) for a range of simulated environments. The proposed system configuration succeeds in significantly cancelling additional target signals appearing in the look direction beam width even if these targets have the same Doppler frequency.

Nanocomposite electrical generator based on piezoelectric zinc oxide nanowires

A nanocomposite electrical generator composed of an array of zinc oxide nanowires is considered. The electric potential distribution along zinc oxide nanowires is modeled using continuum mechanics and Maxwell’s equations for the case of axial loading. A perturbation technique is used for decoupling the constitutive equations. The governing differential equations are solved using a finite difference method. It is shown that a gradient of electric potential exists along the axis of the zinc oxide nanowires. Maximum and minimum values of electric potential exist at the extreme ends along the nanowire length and have opposite signs. The positive and negative voltages are separated by a zero-valued electric potential at the middle of the nanowire. It is also shown that the electric potential is a strong function of shear stress at the interface of matrix-nanowire. The proposed system and loading configuration can generate up to 160% more electric potential than the values reported for the nanowire in the bended configuration, which results in a more sustainable energy source.

Decision support system for continuous production

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to develop energy optimizer (ENEO) – a model‐based decision support system (DSS) for an existing European chemical plant with a multi‐stage continuous production process. The system comprises two modules – energy cost minimization and joined energy cost minimization and output maximization. Following the description of the researched production, the paper presents a gist of the underlying formulations. Then, it tests the DSS on real data instances with a focus on its configuration, practical implications and implementation challenges.Design/methodology/approachThe design of the planning tool is consistent with that of the model‐based DSS and based on the existing information systems. The defined research problems are explored with the use of quantitative methods – the operations research methodology.FindingsThe findings show that ENEO reflects the essence of the researched production process and can provide benefits in practical business operations.Research limitations/implicationsBoth the proposed system configuration and the formulated models lay a foundation to further research within the described industrial setting.Practical implicationsThe system can be utilized in daily operations to provide substantial cost savings, improved capacity utilization and reactivity.Originality/valueThis paper contributes to research by bridging the gap between theory and practice. On the one hand, it describes an unexplored problem and its subsequent solution embodied in the DSS. On the other hand, it emphasizes the importance of applying the operations research methodology to the real‐world issues. Therefore, this work is valuable to both academics and practitioners.
