They Judge You By Your Incarceration: A Qualitative Study of Mistrust Among Formerly Incarcerated People Navigating Mental Health Care.

The goal of this paper is to explore the experiences of formerly incarcerated peoplenavigating mental health care post-release and understand how mistrust of mental health services and providers is manifested among this population. Interviews were conducted between 2021 and 2022 with 25 people released from incarceration within the past five years. We partnered with community organizations to recruit a diverse sample of participants, using voluntary response and purposive sampling. The interview transcripts were coded using a modified grounded theory approach and the analysis further guided by critical phenomenology in order to center silenced or marginalized perspectives. Mistrust of mental health care was a prominent theme across interviews. Overall, participants felt that they did not have autonomy over their treatment planning and management. Participants described experiencing stigmatizing treatment from providers, suspicion of mandated mental health treatment, and believing that profit over patients was prioritized in the industry-all of which contributed to growing mistrust of the larger mental health system. The participants' experiences of losing control over their lives and treatment, compounded by a perceived complicity between mental health and carceral systems, shaped their mistrust toward mental health care. Nevertheless, many demonstrated remarkable persistence in seeking care and engaging with multiple providers, while also actively seeking to reclaim their autonomy.

The impact of foreign ownership on firms: a systematic literature review

Abstract Over the past three decades, the globalization of capital markets has flourished and seems unaffected amidst recent discussions around a deglobalization of the world economy. As a consequence, ownership structures of firms around the world have changed. The emergence of foreign investors as a distinct and powerful group of owners raises questions concerning the impact an increasingly diverse shareholder structure has on firms. Scholars have begun to shed light on the far-reaching consequences of foreign ownership for the organization and strategy of the firm. However, existing research on foreign ownership is scattered, partially because it stems from different disciplines. To map the state of this emerging research field, we present a systematic literature review spanning three decades. Specifically, we investigate foreign ownership’s impact on firms’ organization and strategy by identifying the most prominent themes discussed in the literature. Furthermore, we show that differentiating several types of foreign owners, and considering their origins, is crucial for understanding how their ownership influences firms. We also review the theoretical lenses dominating the research field. Based on our analyses, we develop a framework that synthesizes the state of the art and points at future research avenues to further unravel the multifold consequences of foreign ownership.

Calendar Anomalies in Financial Markets: A Bibliometric Analysis

Calendar anomalies are predictable pattern in stock returns, questioning the Efficient Market Hypothesis and enabling investors to enhance their trading strategies. There has been a proliferation of studies investigating these calendar-based effects across diverse financial markets in recent years. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the existing literature on calendar anomalies in financial markets to uncover insights on the relevant themes, influential authors, and emerging research fronts. The bibliometric analysis is grounded in 432 articles from the Scopus database related to seasonal anomalies, published between 1987 and 2023. The results indicate that academic research predominantly focuses on calendar effects within the stock market, with a significant amount of attention directed towards the US market. The review found a surge in research on calendar anomalies, with 89.99% of articles published between 2000-2022 with US being the dominant contributor totalling 86 publications and 2,075 citations. The study also reveals six prominent research themes, including the day of the week effects on global financial markets, seasonality in market returns and volatility, evidence of disappearing anomalies, explorations of the January effect, comparative studies of stock market seasonality across nations, and inquiries into seasonality effects during the late 1990s. Another key observation is the heterogeneity observed in the patterns of diverse calendar-based anomalies across international financial markets.

Research trends on neutrophil extracellular traps in ischemic stroke: a scientific metrology study

BackgroundIschemic stroke (IS) remains a leading global cause of mortality and chronic disability. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), recently identified as neutrophil-derived structures that trap and neutralize pathogens, have increasingly drawn attention for their involvement in IS pathogenesis. Despite a surge in related research, no bibliometric analyses have yet examined the knowledge framework and trends within this emerging field. Here, we conducted a systematic bibliometric analysis to map the research landscape and identify current and potential hotspots regarding NETs in IS.MethodsRelevant literature published between 2014 and 2024 was systematically retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. Multiple analytical tools, including CiteSpace, VOSviewer, R package “bibliometrix,” and Python scripts, were employed to explore publication trends, academic collaborations, prominent research themes, and emerging topics.ResultsNinety-two publications were eligible for bibliometric assessment, supplemented by an additional latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA)-based topic analysis of 4,504 documents. China (30 publications) and the United States (23 publications) emerged as leading countries in terms of research output, with global collaboration networks predominantly centering around the United States. Noteworthy contributions also arose from European institutions, particularly Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and Karolinska Institutet. The leading authors identified were Desilles, Jean-Philippe, Ho-Tin-Noé, Benoit, and Mazighi, Mikael. Journals such as Stroke, Annals of Neurology, and Nature Communications significantly influenced this domain. Three main research hotspots emerged: (1) “promoting effect of protein arginine deiminase 4 (PAD4) in NET formation,” (2) “cell-free DNA as a biomarker for disease diagnosis,” and (3) “influence of platelets and thrombosis on NETs-related diseases.”ConclusionOur study offers an extensive overview of existing literature and evolving research trajectories concerning NETs in IS, providing researchers with clear insights into current trends and future investigative directions. Nevertheless, our study has limitations—including dependence on a single database (WoSCC), restriction to English-language publications, and inherent constraints of the LDA methodology—that merit consideration in interpreting these findings.

Tracing the footprints of sustainable leadership: a bibliometric exploration to uncover trends, influences, and research frontiers

Introduction: In order to combat climate change and accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, the article emphasizes the growing significance of sustainable leadership. It highlights the necessity for companies to include environmental, social, and economic factors into their operations. One transformative strategy that promotes long-term value, organizational flexibility, and stakeholder trust is sustainable leadership. Scholars strongly support its beneficial effects, although the literature noticeably lacks bibliometric analysis. A thorough bibliometric analysis is suggested to close this gap by examining the evolution and present emphasis of sustainable leadership research, which will direct future scholarly and applied endeavours. Objective: This study aims to perform a bibliometric analysis of scientific literature focusing on sustainable leadership. The goal is to identify prominent themes, authors, sources, and highly cited articles in this field. Additionally, it seeks to discern trends over time in the publication of articles related to sustainable leadership. Design/Methodology/Approach: Utilizing bibliometric analysis, this paper examines articles gathered from the Scopus database using various keywords “Sustainable leadership”, “Sustainability Leadership”, and “Sustainable Leaders” . A total of 87 papers were subjected to computerized search methods. Graphical visualization of the bibliographic data was achieved through VOSviewer software and Scopus data analysis functions. Results: The paper conducts detailed research on sustainable leadership using bibliometric analysis that facilitates visualizing the publication evolution within the domain and delineates present research trends and potential future directions. It uncovers diverse themes, significant journals, influential articles, and key contributors. The study reveals evolving trends, prominent countries, and prolific authors, offering insights into sustainable leadership research dynamics. Conclusion: This research yields significant outcomes, contributing to both theoretical advancements and practical benefits for researchers, leaders, and practitioners. Beyond identifying influential figures, it furnishes a valuable tool for newcomers, facilitating collaboration, source discovery, and a deeper understanding of the scholarly landscape in sustainable leadership. This study stands out as one of the few to conduct a literature review or scientific mapping on sustainable leadership. Moreover, it distinguishes itself by meticulously selecting publications that strictly adhere to the sustainability criteria outlined by Avery (2006).

Bibliometric Insights into Terracing Effects on Water Resources Under Climate Change: Advances in Remote Sensing and GIS Applications

With the increasing impacts of global climate change and the continuous expansion of the population, the scarcity of food and water resources, along with the protection of agricultural land, have become significant constraints to sustainable agricultural development. Terraces plays a vital role in controlling water loss and promoting sustainable agriculture, and they have been widely adopted across the globe. Using CiteSpace, this study conducted a bibliometric review of the literature on the application of remote sensing and GISs in terrace studies under global climate change. The dataset included publications from the Web of Science spanning the years 1992 to 2024. Based on a systematical analysis of 508 publications, we investigated major institutions, cross-author collaborations, keyword co-occurrences, and the evolution of the research focus areas regarding the applications of remote sensing and GISs in terrace studies. The results show that the prominent research themes in this domain include remote sensing, erosion, and climate change. China (132, 26%) and the United States (108, 21%) are the top contributors in terms of publication numbers, while European countries and institutions are more active in collaborative efforts. The research emphasis has transitioned from analyzing the environmental characteristics of terraces to a broader consideration of ecological factors and multi-scenario applications. Moreover, analyses of the keyword co-occurrence and temporal trends indicate a rising interest in the application of machine learning, deep learning, and luminescence dating in terrace studies. Moving forward, it is essential to advance the deployment of automated monitoring systems, obtain long-term continuous monitoring data, encourage the adoption of conservation agriculture technology, and strengthen early warning networks for extreme climate events in terrace research. Overall, this study underscores the importance of interdisciplinary approaches and collaborative efforts to address the myriad challenges faced by terraced agriculture in an era of rapid environmental change.

Behind-the-scenes insights from undertaking intersectional research in the field of sport and physical activity

ABSTRACT Undertaking intersectional research in sport and physical activity is necessarily complex. This paper offers a collaborative self-study (Ovens & Fletcher, 2014) of the authors' collective fieldwork experiences of conducting intersectional research at the post-graduate/early career research (ECR) stage in sport and physical activity. The authors' reflections are grounded in personal and theoretical insights, consisting of data from multiple sources including: (1) authors' field notes and reflective journal entries; and (2) collaborative meetings between authors' who acted as critical friends during these discussions. Data were analysed using a reflexive thematic analysis method (Braun & Clarke, 2024). The paper presents a creative nonfiction account that reflects the methodological complexities encountered by the authors' during their intersectional research. Three prominent themes were generated from data analysis: (1) research reality; (2) space and place; and (3) emotion. We conclude by offering some recommendations and opportunities for future intersectional research in sport and physical activity.

Three decades of research on washback (1993–2023): a bibliometric study

The present research employed bibliometric analyses to systematically examine empirical washback studies published in applied linguistics journals over the past three decades (1993 to 2023). The research identified the distribution of washback scholarships globally and in Asia, the key research themes, and their evolution over time. The primary studies were retrieved from three established databases: Web of Science, Scopus, and ERIC and supplemented by tracking the reference lists of recent publications. Only journal articles of empirical studies written in English were included in the final collection (N = 243). The analysis focused on the distribution of research contexts, most productive journals and authors, prominent research themes, and their evolution over time. The 243 washback studies published in 149 journals were conducted in 40 educational contexts worldwide by 386 researchers. They showed pronounced distribution characteristics, with Asian countries and regions leading this line of research and also exhibiting differences from the research outside of Asia in research foci and methods. The topmost productive and impactful journals, authors, and references of washback research of the past 32 years, alongside the evolving basic, niche, and motor research themes, provide valuable information to understand where we have been and should go.

Implementing Learning from Excellence in a postanaesthesia care unit: a qualitative study of healthcare professionals’ experiences after six months

BackgroundPrevailing efforts to ensure patient safety have primarily focused on learning from errors and adverse events (Safety-I). However, it is advocated that complex systems also learn from success (Safety-II) and focus on healthcare professionals’ well-being at work to increase resilience. Learning from Excellence is a British initiative designed to learn from successful practices and provide positive feedback to the staff. It has gained enthusiastic followers in several countries, including Norway. However, how it influences learning, well-being and quality improvement, has not been studied in-depth. This study intends to address these gaps. Thus, this study aimed to describe healthcare professionals’ experiences with Learning from Excellence six months after its implementation in a postanaesthesia care unit.MethodsA qualitative descriptive design was applied. Learning from Excellence was implemented in a postanaesthesia care unit of a Norwegian university hospital between November 2022 and May 2023. Six semi-structured focus group interviews were conducted, from May to June 2023, with a convenience sample of nurses (n = 17) and physicians (n = 7). The data were analysed through inductive reflexive thematic analysis. The study adhered to the COREQ guidelines.ResultsThis study reports four prominent themes encapsulating healthcare professionals’ experiences with Learning from Excellence. These themes were termed as follows: 1) ‘Facilitates a more positive working climate’, including sub-themes ‘Helps spread positive feedback’ and ‘Feeling seen and motivated’; 2) ‘Why don’t I get any ‘likes’?’; 3) ‘Organisational learning is challenging’, including sub-themes ‘Hesitating to report’ and ‘Provides mostly superficial learning’; and 4) ‘Success inspires quality improvement project’.ConclusionsImplementing LfE mostly contributed to a positive working climate in a postanaesthesia care unit. For LfE to be worth implementing, it is essential to improve organisational learning, while minimising the negative effects of LfE, such as exclusivity issues.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov NCT05794490; first registered on March 4, 2023.

The Unique Needs and Challenges of Young Females After Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) disproportionately affects females who are often younger in age. Age-based comparisons of the post-SCAD experience are required to adequately inform rehabilitation programming that is sensitive to patient life circumstances and needs. This multi-site qualitative study investigated the experiences of SCAD in females analyzed according to their age (<50 and≥50years). Females who had experienced a SCAD event were recruited from 5 large tertiary care hospitals. Participants completed sociodemographic and medical questionnaires and took part in a semi-structured interview. Transcribed data were subject to the framework method using deductive coding. Constructed codes and overarching themes were then compared in the<50 and≥50-year patient groups. Themes that highlighted the central differences between demographic groups were then constructed inductively. Overall, females with SCAD (n=77; mean age=52.9±10.8years; range=29-77) reported struggling with a lack of information from their health care team with regards to the diagnosis, management, and long-term prognosis of SCAD. Younger patient (n=32; mean age=40.2±6.7years) transcripts evidenced more prominent themes of uncertainty, dissatisfaction with cardiac rehabilitation programming, difficulty adjusting to lifestyle and vocational changes, and family-related distress in comparison to those over 50 (n=45; mean age=57.8±6.9years). Females with SCAD who are<50years old appear to experience their recovery from SCAD differently than those who are older in age. These differences suggest that tailored approaches may be required in cardiovascular rehabilitation programming for younger SCAD patients.

Leveraging the Arts to Address and Elevate Vaccine Confidence: A Culturally Responsive and Equitable Evaluation of an Arts Intervention for Black Residents in Rural Georgia.

Despite pronounced disparities in COVID-19 cases and mortality among communities of color in the United States, and vaccines being a potentially lifesaving prevention measure, vaccination rates are still lower among racial minorities, especially Black people, compared to White people. Reasons such as distrust in the U.S. government and healthcare system underlie vaccine deliberation, which contributes to low vaccine uptake among Black people. The creative and community-based program, "Equitable Vaccines," uses the arts to address vaccine deliberation and boost vaccine confidence among Black people in rural Georgia. Program facilitators implemented vaccine events, bringing together community members to view an artistic asset (e.g., creative short film) and engage participants in candid conversations surrounding COVID-19 and vaccine deliberation. Subsequently, participants were invited to receive a COVID vaccine and complete a brief online post-event survey. Program facilitators also reported their observations and interactions with participants via an Asana post-event report. An analysis of these fieldnotes highlights the community's evolving experiences with COVID-19, the vaccine, and reasons for vaccine deliberation between late 2021 and 2024. Findings revealed that mistrust in U.S. institutions and systems and misinformation was a prominent theme across the entire program duration, but there was also a shift toward motivation for getting vaccinated toward the latter part of the program. We recommend using creative and culturally responsive techniques in designing, implementing, and evaluating public health interventions to address vaccine deliberation and other public health concerns in Black communities across the United States.

Exploring the research hotspots and trends in genetic education reform.

Genetics, as a core discipline of life sciences, has broad applications in medicine, agriculture, and environmental protection. With the rapid development in biotechnology, genetic education is facing new challenges and demands. Traditional teaching models have gradually revealed limitations in cultivating students' innovative abilities, practical skills, and comprehensive qualities. To enhance the quality and effectiveness of genetic education, promoting educational reform has become a focal point for educators and researchers. This study employs bibliometric methods to comprehensively review and analyze 690 relevant publications on genetic education reform from 1986 to 2023, encompassing both domestic and international contexts. The analysis covers multiple dimensions, including the time distribution of publications, research topics, major research institutions and authors, and keyword co-occurrence. Results indicate a steady annual growth in research on genetic education reform. Keyword analysis reveals prominent themes such as "educational reform", "experimental education" and "medical genetics", focusing on innovative teaching methods and improving educational outcomes. High-output institutions are primarily found in the fields of agriculture and life sciences, particularly within agricultural universities and the life sciences of comprehensive universities. Here, we summarize the current state and development trends in genetic education reform, providing a scientific basis and reference for future research. This study will promote the innovative development of genetic education and cultivate more high-quality talents with innovative spirit and practical abilities.

A bibliometric analysis of blue growth: Trends, challenges, and opportunities

The European Union is leading the Blue Growth initiative as a strategic approach to increasing economic prosperity in Europe's seas despite today's challenges. Drawing on the EU's Green Growth initiative, Blue Growth extends sustainability principles to marine areas, solidifying commitments to the sustainable management of marine ecosystems and the promotion of technological innovations. This initiative focuses on sectors such as energy, aquaculture, tourism, and biotechnology in coastal and offshore environments. Blue Growth has increased in importance following major events such as Rio+20 and has had a significant impact on ocean and marine resource management practices. In this study, we conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to trace the trajectory of global research on blue growth across science, policy, and the blue economy over the 17 years since the term's inception in 2007. We analyze blue growth using bibliometric techniques. Examining the blue growth literature, identifying key contributors, collaborations, research trends, and gaps. Our analysis covers publication outputs, institutional affiliations, author collaborations, research themes, and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Blue growth research is aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 15 (Life on Land), highlighting marine conservation and land-sea ecosystem connectivity. Keyword analysis underlines the interdisciplinary nature of blue growth research, highlighting key themes such as the blue economy, aquaculture, and sustainable development. Institutional analysis identifies the University of Exeter and CNR as key contributors, while country-level analysis highlights global collaboration networks. Citation analysis reveals the intellectual structure of blue growth research, with marine biology, oceanography, sustainability science, and climate change among the prominent themes. During the 17-year period from 2007 to 2024, there was a significant increase in publication output, especially from 2013 onwards. Key countries contributing to this research include the UK, US, Germany, Italy and Spain, reflecting extensive global collaboration. The research emphasizes a strong commitment to sustainability, with a heavy emphasis on Environmental Science and Ecology. Alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) emphasizes a focus on marine conservation (SDG 14) and land-sea ecosystem connectivity (SDG 15). Keyword analysis reveals critical themes such as “blue economy,” “aquaculture,” and “sustainable development,” with an emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches. Mapping Financial Inclusion: A Bibliometric Review and Future Directions

Financial inclusion has emerged as a critical driver of equitable economic growth and poverty reduction, garnering significant scholarly attention over the past decade. This study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric review of 876 articles from the Web of Science (WoS) database, focusing on the Economics and Business Finance domain, to map the intellectual structure and evolution of financial inclusion research from 2015 to 2025. Utilizing performance analysis, co-occurrence keyword networks, citation mapping, and thematic clustering, the paper identifies key contributors, institutions, journals, and collaboration patterns shaping the field. Findings reveal a rapid growth in publications, with prominent themes such as digital finance, financial literacy, sustainable development, and inclusive growth dominating the discourse. Emerging sub-themes like fintech innovation, AI-driven financial services, and blockchain applications signal future research trajectories. The study also highlights regional disparities in research focus, underscoring the need for context-specific policies. By synthesizing current trends and gaps, this review proposes actionable directions for advancing financial inclusion aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). The insights aim to guide policymakers, financial institutions, and researchers in fostering inclusive financial ecosystems. The mapping process is done by using R tool (Biblioshiny).

The Effect of a Surgeon Communication Strategy on Treatment Preference for Thyroid Cancer: A Randomized Trial.

BackgroundCancer diagnosis causes emotional distress, which can influence patients' treatment choice. This study aimed to investigate the effect of increased emotionally supportive surgeon communication in a virtual setting on treatment preference for thyroid cancer.DesignThis randomized trial (NCT05132478), conducted from November 2021 to February 2023, enrolled adults with ≤4-cm thyroid nodules not requiring surgery. Participants were randomized 1:1 to watch a virtual clinic visit depicting a patient-surgeon treatment discussion for low-risk thyroid cancer. Control and intervention videos were identical except for added emotionally supportive communication in the intervention. The primary outcome was treatment preference for total thyroidectomy or lobectomy. Secondary outcomes were perceived physician empathy, physician trust, decisional confidence, and disease-specific knowledge. An intention-to-treat analysis was performed using conditional regression to account for stratification by sex. Qualitative content analysis evaluated participants' open-ended responses about treatment choice and surgeon communication.ResultsOf 208 eligible patients, 118 (56.7%) participated. Participants were 85.6% female and 88.1% White. Overall, 89.0% (n = 105) of participants preferred lobectomy, which was similar between the intervention and control groups (90.0% v. 87.9%, respectively, P = 0.72). Compared with control, participants who viewed the consultation with enhanced communication perceived higher levels of physician empathy (34.5 ± 5.8 v. 25.9 ± 9.1, P < 0.001) and reported increased trust in the physician (12.0 ± 2.6 v. 10.4 ± 3.1, P < 0.001). The groups were similar in decisional confidence (7.6 ± 2.1 v. 7.7 ± 1.9, P = 0.74) and disease-specific knowledge. Prominent qualitative themes among participants choosing thyroid lobectomy included desire to avoid daily thyroid hormone (n = 53) and concerns about surgical complications (n = 25).ConclusionsIn this randomized controlled study, a significant proportion of participants preferred thyroid lobectomy if diagnosed with low-risk thyroid cancer. Participants perceived increased empathy when provided even in the virtual setting, which was associated with increased trust in the physician.HighlightsIn this single-site, randomized controlled trial, enhanced emotionally supportive surgeon communication had no effect on hypothetical treatment preference for low-risk thyroid cancer.Participants who experienced enhanced emotionally supportive surgeon communication perceived higher physician empathy and reported greater trust in the physician.The incorporation of empathetic communication during surgical consultation for low-risk thyroid cancer promotes patient trust and perception of empathy.

A mixed methods analysis of predictors of a toxic culture among nurses

Objective: The three-year Workforce Engagement for Compassionate Advocacy, Resiliency, and Empowerment (WE CARE) project targets well-being and resilience of post-pandemic nurses in a hospital environment as part of a 2020 grant-funded collaborative agreement with the Health Resources and Services Administration. This project aims to examine extrinsic factors associated with the perception of a toxic work environment among post-pandemic nursing personnel and further describe the toxicity present at work.Methods: A mixed methods design was conducted at an academic medical center in the Southeastern United States to assess nursing well-being. An open-ended question to explore nurses’ perceptions of toxic work environment was added to an annual email survey on well-being topics. All nursing personnel were solicited and 1,359 responded. Results: A total of 366 individuals (27%) selected toxic work environment as a stressor and 50 respondents commented contributing 218 instances of themes. Lack of leadership was the most frequent theme identified (63/218, 28.9%) but others included, in descending order, relational aggression, negative attitudes, lack of job accountability, gossip, favoritism, lack of teamwork, attitudes/bullying, negative work environment, cliques, and lack of trust. The respondents who perceived a toxic culture also reported significantly lower perceived organizational support (M = 7.22) than who did not (M = 9.21) (p &lt; .001, Cohen’s D = 0.64); and other significantly worse outcomes including burnout (60.9% versus 33.5%, Cramer’s V = 0.22), and moral distress (34.4% versus 16.8%, Cramer’s V = 0.17).Conclusions: Although this was a single site study and cannot be generalized, the findings of 27% of nursing personnel experiencing a toxic work environment is notable. Perceived lack of leadership was the most prominent theme. Those reporting a toxic culture also reported lower indicators of well-being. This project should provide an impetus for others to investigate this phenomenon among their respective workforces.

DEATH, RESURRECTION, AND REALISM IN EURIPIDES’ ALCESTIS

‘There is no well-known individual in all Greek mythology except Alcestis [original emphasis] who dies and is returned to human life without cosmic repercussions which are soon remedied’ (John Heath). The ineluctability of death is not just a feature of Greek myth in general but is also one of the most prominent themes in Euripides’ version of the story in his play Alcestis (438 bc). A further problem is that Greek tragedy is a basically realistic genre which is not hospitable to violations of the laws of nature. Euripides thus set himself a remarkable challenge in Alcestis, to present an event which violates a law of nature which is so unbreakable that it is on the whole observed throughout Greek mythology as well as being repeatedly affirmed in the play. This article will examine how he succeeds in doing so in a way which is dramatically convincing.

The Role of Spatial Planning in Landscape-Based Groundwater Recharge: A Systematic Literature Review

Groundwater is a vital resource for ecosystems, with its recharge process influenced by climate change and urbanization. The transformation of natural and urban landscapes and the over-extraction of groundwater contribute to its depletion and degradation. Groundwater recharge and management are intricately linked to land use and the landscape. Despite this close connection, spatially integrating groundwater recharge strategies in the landscape context remains underexplored. This systematic review synthesizes state-of-the-art research at the intersection of spatial planning, landscapes, and groundwater recharge. We employed a combination of bibliometric visualization and thematic analysis and reviewed 126 studies published between 1990 and April 2024 from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. Based on their objectives and outcomes, we found four prominent themes in these clusters: groundwater recharge potential studies, groundwater vulnerability studies, design-based studies, and participatory studies. When organized iteratively, these clusters can become potential building blocks of a framework for a landscape-based groundwater recharge approach. With interdisciplinary collaboration, spatial visualization and mapping, a co-creative design, and a feedback mechanism at its core, this approach can enhance stakeholder communication and translate highly specialized technical knowledge into adaptive, actionable insights. This study also highlights that including spatial design can help develop landscape-based groundwater recharge for long-term sustainable regional development.
