Forced displacement and migration are on the rise worldwide. Asylum seeking and refugee minors (ASRM) are particularly exposed to risk factors for mental health problems. Yet, there is a lack of comprehensive data on the prevalence of specific mental health problems as well as applied screening and follow-up care in Germany. Using the online platform REDCap, we conducted the cross-sectional SAVE-KID survey among health and social care professionals (HSCP) working with ASRM in Germany (n = 201; 44% medical doctors, 38% social workers) to assess the estimated mental health burden among ASRM, the conducted screening measures, and provided mental health care as well as the extent to which communication problems affect care for ASRM. Here we show, that on average, 21% of ASRM are reported with one or more listed mental health problem. Only 37% receive follow-up. Less than 24% of participants conduct mental health screening by informal questions, interviews, trained staff or questionnaires. 84% of participants report frequent communication problems. Most used aids are online tools or relatives' translations. SAVE-KID describes an imbalance between the occurrence of and screening for mental health problems among ASRM. Comprehensive, systematic detection of mental health problems remains challenging due to communication problems, lack of specialized staff and diagnostic tools as well as follow-up care structures.

Principal leadership plays a strategic role in improving the performance of educators and education personnel, particularly in private educational institutions that demand effective human resource management. One relevant approach is transactional leadership, which emphasizes clear roles, effective reward systems, and regular performance monitoring. This study aims to describe and analyze in depth the implementation of transactional leadership management by principals in improving the performance of educators and education personnel. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Informants consisted of principals, educators, and education personnel. Data validity was tested through triangulation of sources and techniques. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and systematic drawing of conclusions. The results show that transactional leadership management at Bahrul Ulum Bontang Middle School is implemented effectively and structured through two main dimensions. First, contingent rewards are realized in the form of praise, incentives, and self-development opportunities that have a positive impact on the work motivation of educators and education personnel. Management by exception is implemented through a consistent and fair monitoring system, accompanied by tiered sanctions ranging from verbal warnings to incentive cuts. The implementation of these two dimensions contributes to increased discipline and work responsibility. Research findings indicate that clarity in reward and supervision systems is a key factor in the effectiveness of transactional leadership. Consistent implementation can create a professional, disciplined, and conducive work environment.

Introduction Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) due to a spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak is a debilitating but curable condition, often affecting individuals of working age, making a considerably socioeconomic impact likely. Methods This monocentric retrospective study in Germany analyzed work capacity in patients ≤65 years before and after surgical closure of a spinal CSF leak between April 2018 and September 2024. The economic burden was evaluated via direct hospital costs and indirect costs from productivity losses. Results Two hundred and ten patients (median age 45.5 years, 62% female), all physically capable of working, were included. After symptom onset, 96% could not perform their professional work as before: 61% were completely unable, 18% reduced working time, and 17% adapted conditions. Three months postoperatively, 55% had completely returned to work, 19% were working part-time. At the last follow-up these numbers further improved to 65 and 17%, respectively, only 9% were still unable to work, 9% had retired. A shorter symptom duration was significantly associated with complete return to work. Median direct costs per patient for diagnosis and treatment was €11,407, indirect costs for 160 days (the median symptom duration before surgery) averaged €21,169. Extrapolated to the incidence rate, the additional annual economic burden in Germany is estimated at €85.75 million for 160 sick days, largely from preventable productivity losses. Conclusion SIH significantly impairs working ability. Early treatment can restore work capacity and substantially reduces preventable productivity losses, strongly advocating timely intervention not only from a medical but also from an economic perspective.

Introduction This paper examines the complex processes involved in responding to identity imposition, the misinterpretation of one's identity, by others, thereby leading to difficulty reconciling self-identity. We employ an intersectional analysis focused on British professional women of African, Asian, and Caribbean (AAC) ethnic backgrounds to address the gap in understanding, concerning responses to identity imposition at the nexus of racio-ethnicity and gender. Drawing on an intersectionality perspective, the study goal is twofold: (1) to contribute to theoretical research on identity and identity formation and (2), to broaden understanding of how intersectionality shapes women's experiences and responses to externally imposed identity narratives in professional work settings. Methods The study engages an interpretivist approach to inquiry, through a qualitative methodological approach utilizing in-depth semi-structured interviews. Semi-structured interviews were undertaken with 30 British professional women with AAC ethnicity. Results Our results reveal that AAC women encounter distinct forms of identity imposition rooted in prevailing discriminatory identity narratives at the intersection of gender and racio-ethnicity. We identify three dominant behavioral responses: modification of self-aspects, resistance against incongruent imposed meanings, and vacillation between modification and resistance, pushing them into a state of liminality. Discussion The study illuminates the various responses that AAC women recruit as they navigate identity imposition within their professional working environment, underpinning the importance for UK organizations to prioritize training and development initiatives that empower managers and employees to move beyond behaviors that adversely affect minoritized employees.

This study aims to analyze the influence of political leadership and work culture on the performance of employees at the Bengkulu Provincial DPRD Secretariat. The research approach used was quantitative with multiple linear regression. The study population included all employees at the Bengkulu Provincial DPRD Secretariat, with a sample size of 74 respondents obtained through saturated sampling. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale, while data analysis was performed using SPSS. The results showed that political leadership had a positive and significant effect on employee performance, meaning that the more effective the political leadership, the higher the employee performance. Meanwhile, work culture had a positive but insignificant effect on employee performance, thus concluding that work culture values have not been fully and consistently implemented by all employees. Simultaneously, political leadership and work culture had a significant effect on employee performance, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.150, indicating that these two variables explain 15% of the variation in employee performance, with the remainder influenced by factors outside this study. This finding emphasizes the importance of strengthening participatory political leadership and establishing a professional and integrity-based work culture to improve employee performance within the Bengkulu Provincial DPRD Secretariat.

Work breaks are a central but understudied component of recovery at work, particularly in cognitively demanding professional roles. This exploratory study examined how professional workers perceive work breaks and how these perceptions relate to work time efficiency, task time estimation, work performance, and work-related worry. Seventy-five professional workers completed self-report measures assessing break duration and frequency, beliefs about the performance benefits of work breaks, perceived accuracy of task time estimation, work efficiency, self-rated work performance, and work-related worry. Spearman correlations showed that stronger belief that work breaks improve performance was associated with greater perceived time estimation accuracy, higher work time efficiency, and better work performance. In contrast, work-related worry showed little association with break perceptions. Findings highlight the importance of subjective beliefs about work breaks in everyday professional work and recovery processes.

This study aims to find out and analyze the level of work discipline of the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) and the factors that affect it at the UPPD SAMSAT Office of Biak Numfor Regency. ASN work discipline is one of the main indicators in assessing the performance of public services, especially in technical agencies that are in direct contact with the community. The main focus of this study is to answer two problem formulations, namely how the level of ASN work discipline is and what are the factors that affect it. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation studies. The results of the study showed that the level of discipline of ASN was quite good, judging from the indicators of punctuality, utilization of facilities, responsibility for duties, and obedience to office rules. However, there are several weaknesses that still need to be addressed, such as late attendance, the use of a digital work system that is not optimal, and violations of rules that are only acted upon with verbal reprimands. The factors that affect ASN work discipline include: leadership, reward and sanction system, individual ability, fairness in the division of labor, inherent supervision, and leadership firmness. These overall results strengthen the relevance of Alfred R. Lateiner's and Hasibuan's theories in explaining the dynamics of discipline in the local government bureaucratic environment. This study recommends the importance of improving the quality of leadership, continuous technical training, strengthening the reward and punishment system, and implementing more consistent supervision in order to form a professional, fair, and accountable work culture for civil servants.

Subject. Competent professional work of a dentist has always been highly valued, as it contributes not only to improved aesthetics, but also to the patient’s overall health. However, a review of the literature has shown that traumatic dental practice, irrational prosthetics, and substandard orthopedic constructions can disrupt the integrity of the periodontal complex, leading to chronic diseases — both local and systemic. It is necessary to conduct a detailed study of the etiology and pathogenesis of inflammatory conditions of the oral mucosa and periodontium, identify their causes, and develop a treatment protocol for patients. These issues negatively affect patients’ quality of life, daily activities, and general health status; therefore, the prevention and treatment of complications arising during orthopedic treatment require the implementation of modern approaches. Objective — to analyze literature data in order to determine the incidence of periodontal complex tissue complications during orthopedic treatment and to identify new methods for addressing these complications. Methodology. A search and analysis of publications in scientometric databases (eLIBRARY, PubMed, Google Scholar) were conducted on the prevalence of periodontal tissue complications at various stages of orthopedic treatment. Results. It is important to develop individual treatment plans and methods for each patient based on their clinical situation — this helps reduce the risk of trauma to periodontal tissues and the oral mucosa. Conclusions. Rational treatment planning and prosthetics are key to the successful placement of high quality orthopedic constructions and maintaining patient health. The development of adhesive substances that ensure high quality and safe treatment is a promising direction in practical dentistry: they provide a barrier function and prevent microorganisms from penetrating into the subgingival area.

Modern life often prevents the mastery of the social skills needed to respond to diversity constructively, without destructive behavior. To identify those social skills, the first author conducted an intergenerational summer camp program 12 times over a 4-year period, using J. L. Moreno's sociometry to discover what was critical to the creation of bonding and love within a diverse group. She concluded that people in family or group leadership positions need to know facilitation, many forms of conflict resolution, and companionship skills, including the social value of solitude. These skills also have many professional work applications. A safe setting for people of all ages, where these advanced interpersonal skills can be practiced, is the I-week "village" experience. The community educator profession is better described in spiritual/ psychological language than in the language of conventional professional training.It is part of a life-long learning process. The design for developing community educators is based on the facilitation model of the Alternatives to Violence Program (AVP). Susanna Eveson, an international AVP lead facilitator, introduced the program in Hungary where she and her colleagues developed and expanded the design described in this article.

We draw on theorizing by Goffman on face (1967), framing (1974), and participation framework (1981) to demonstrate how one mother and father do parental and family facework as their young children exhibit what could be construed as “misbehavior” during a videorecording of a family mealtime that the mother, an English-language instructor, made and posted to her YouTube channel for the purposes of providing learners access to “real English conversation.” Our analysis shows how the parents communicate with their co-present young children as well as the YouTube viewers to present themselves as good parents, and the mother as a good language instructor, even though the family mealtime was, in the mother’s words, somewhat “hectic” and “chaotic.” We demonstrate how facework is achieved collaboratively through numerous strategies, including verbal accounting, repetition, laughter, smiles, gaze, hand and arm gestures, eyebrow movements, and on-screen text that is added post-recording. The study contributes to understanding how “private” family interactions are shaped into the “public” YouTube context; how facework is a joint, interactive process; and how parental and family identity presentation occurs in the context of one mother’s professional work (online language instruction).

We introduce GDPval, a benchmark evaluating AI model capabilities on realworld economically valuable tasks. GDPval covers the majority of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Work Activities for 44 occupations across the top 9 sectors contributing to U.S. GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Tasks are constructed from the representative work of industry professionals with an average of 14 years of experience. We find that frontier model performance on GDPval is improving roughly linearly over time, and that the current best frontier models are approaching industry experts in deliverable quality. We analyze the potential for frontier models, when paired with human oversight, to perform GDPval tasks cheaper and faster than unaided experts. We also demonstrate that increased reasoning effort, increased task context, and increased scaffolding improves model performance on GDPval. Finally, we open-source a gold subset of 220 tasks and provide a public automated grading service at evals.openai.com to facilitate future research in understanding real-world model capabilities.

This article examines academic-industrial partnerships as a necessary element in the professional work of physics teachers. Specific examples of the application of academic-industrial partnerships at Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University, which trains undergraduate and graduate students in Physics and Mathematics Education, are provided. The article explores academicindustrial partnerships for future physics teachers aimed at fundamentally studying cross-cutting technologies for their subsequent implementation in the educational process in the context of education transformation.

Labor activity, terms of exposure to professional factors and work experience contribute to modulation of both physiological and psychological functions of the human body. Ecological and climatic features of high latitudes, characterized by almost year-round low temperatures, reduced UV insolation and altered photoperiodism lead to adverse impact of professional activity. The complex of professional and environmental factors is stressful for adaptive abilities, including immune system. The aim of our study was to assess the influence of work experience on the state of immune homeostasis in hydrographers at the Northern Fleet of Russian Federation. A total of 64 practically healthy men working under the conditions of Northern seas were examined, depending on the length of their service: (1) work experience of 2.3±0.4 years; (2) 9.0±0.5 years; (3) 15.9±0.6 years; (4) 28.9±1.0 years. The number of lymphocytes (CD5+, CD10+, CD95+, CD71+) and the ratio of their contents (CD10+/CD95+ and CD71+/CD95+) were determined in peripheral blood using the indirect immunoperoxidase reaction technique with monoclonal antibodies on dried-drop lymphocyte preparations with a peroxidase conjugate stained with a chromogenic solution. The data analysis showed that the number of CD5+ lymphocytes decreases in individuals with up to 9.0±0.5 years of work experience. The ratios of the cell contents CD10+/CD95+, and CD71+/CD95+ varied from 0.94 to 1.06, being within optimal reference values 1±0.05, without any statistically significant difference depending on the length of service. It was found that the suggested mechanisms of immune adaptation proceeds in two ways: in young hydrographers with short and intermediate working experience it is implemented via maintenance of lymphoproliferation-to-apoptosis ratio, due to CD10+/CD95+, along with decreased levels of CD5 marker expression. In older hydrographers with significant and long-term work experience, it proceeds via restoration of CD5 marker expression, along with expanded distribution range of CD10/CD95 ratio and maintenance of CD71+/CD95+ ratio within strict limits. The obtained results suggest a need for individual medical and biological monitoring in order to correct the immune homeostasis of the people working in high latitudes.

Cancer of the breast is one of the most predominant types of cancer among women. Quality of life (QoL) is an important variable for cancer treatment and breast cancer. Most of the QoL instruments that have been developed and tested in western culture to measure QoL of women with breast cancer. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and validate a culturally specific tool to measure the QoL of Indian women with breast cancer. A Delphi method was followed with 11 multi-professional healthcare professional working in the treatment and rehabilitation of breast cancer survivors to ensure content validity and consensus was defined as at least 80% agreement. The questionnaire (41 items) covered relevant topics on QoL in six domains; General Health, Physical Well-Being, Functional Well-Being, Emotional Well-Being, Family Well-Being and Social Well-Being. The expert panel's agreements served as the framework for the scale rating. The first round had a 100% participant response rate, with 36 of 41 items achieving 80% or more consensus and five items failing to meet this standard. In the second round, 37 items received ≥ 80% level of consensus with a further 4 gained agreements of ≤ 75%. Finally, the questionnaire was reduced to 34 assertions after an expert panel reviewed the statements for construction and content. Creation of a QoL tool for breast cancer survivors suited to the culture is a significant advance in delivering tailored assistance and comprehension to individuals from a range of cultures. This tool fosters a more holistic and inclusive approach to treatment by embracing cultural nuances, improving the overall well-being and survivorship experience for breast cancer survivors.

Background/Objectives: Healthcare workers (HCW) in primary care settings play a significant role in recommending vaccines to patients. We aimed to describe COVID-19 vaccination knowledge, attitudes, perception, and practices (KAPP) of HCWs in Tunisia and identify associated factors. Methods: We conducted a national cross-sectional survey (29 January to 3 February 2024) among HCWs in primary public healthcare centers using purposive sampling. Factors associated with good knowledge, positive attitude, and good practice, measured through Likert scales using face-to-face questionnaires, were identified using binary logistic regression. Results: We included 906 HCWs (mean age = 41.87 ± 8.89 years). In total, 37.75% (342/906) of HCWs had good knowledge and perception, 4.30% (39/906) had a positive attitude, and 24.9% (226/906) had good practices related to COVID-19 vaccination. Working in urban compared to rural areas was associated with good knowledge (aOR = 1.57, 95%CI = 1.12–2.21) and positive attitude (aOR = 4.94, 95%CI = 1.19–20.44) to COVID-19 vaccination. Physicians had better KAPP scores than other medical professionals. HCWs working in departments with high-risk patients were more likely to have good knowledge (aOR = 1.28, 95%CI = 1.00–1.72). Positive attitude was also associated with being male (aOR = 2.97, 95%CI = 1.75–5.07) and having at least one non-communicable disease (aOR = 1.92, 95%CI = 1.14–3.23). Being male (aOR = 1.97, 95%CI = 1.35–2.88) and having more years of professional experience (aOR = 1.81, 95%CI = 1.29–2.52) were associated with good practice. Conclusions: Just over a third of HCWs in primary healthcare clinics had good knowledge of COVID-19 vaccination, while positive attitudes and good practices were low. Targeted interventions, particularly for HCWs with less professional experience working in rural settings, are needed to increase good practices and improve COVID-19 vaccination coverage in Tunisia.

Background/Objectives: To investigate whether healthcare workers present different characteristics of musculoskeletal symptoms depending on the level of complexity in which these professionals work in the Brazilian Unified Health System. Methods: Health professionals were recruited from 24 health institutions, using probabilistic stratified sampling. Data were collected using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. We obtained the questionnaire scores through exploratory factor analysis. Based on the scores, individuals could be grouped into symptom configurations using a non-hierarchical clustering algorithm (K-means). Results: The created groups differed in symptom intensity and location but did not differ by level of work complexity, as defined by Brazil’s healthcare sector division. Therefore, regardless of the level of complexity at which professionals perform their activities in the Brazilian Unified Health System, the burden of musculoskeletal symptoms related to the factor under analysis is similar. We developed distinct symptom profiles for each group, accompanied by targeted occupational intervention recommendations. Conclusions: This study challenges conventional assumptions by demonstrating that musculoskeletal symptom burden remains consistent across varying levels of work complexity, while providing a practical framework for developing targeted interventions based on symptom profiles.

This article aims to conceptualise and reimagine the notion of nursing professionalism in two different contexts. Utilising a critical reflexive approach whilst drawing on salient theories, concepts, and studies on professionalism, I will consider my professional journey from that of a mental health nurse within the NHS to that of a nursing lecturer within a research-intensive university. The paper highlights that, at its worst, the gendered lens of what I term, old professionalism, may alienate some professions, nursing in this case, over others. It may also create stigmatising attitudes towards those who choose professions that do not fit with gendered norms. At its best, ideas around professionalism can provide helpful ways to conceptualise and make sense of professional nursing work as seen in more democratic, interdependent, collaborative and degendered notions of what I term new professionalism, and connective professionalism. The paper also argues that education-focused nursing lecturers may feel fragmented due to competing tensions and in lacking credibility in undertaking research. Two responses to these predicaments are offered. The first can be characterised by expanding and reimagining the professional self as a connective professional who reconciles and navigates multiple identities and discourses within the period and context in which they work. The second calls for education-focused lecturers to engage in discursive creation by creating new knowledge, networks, and opportunities and to deploy these in the service of others. Binary or dualistic divisions appear throughout this paper in different guises and help to elucidate some of the problems associated with nursing professionalism and professional work. In particular, the ineluctable hegemony of cultural codes of masculinity are discussed in their function to make some nurses feel unprofessional, prevent autonomous working through the demands of neoliberal managerialism, and favouring positivist knowledge over interpretive approaches to knowledge creation.

Occupational stress among faculty has become an important research topic in psychology. Unlike previous studies, this research integrates resilience, job satisfaction, and psychological capital into a unified analytical framework based on Social Identity Theory and Conservation of Resources Theory. It aims to investigate the underlying mechanisms and boundary conditions between professional identity and work engagement. Using a cross-sectional survey design, we collected data from 950 Chinese university faculty through questionnaire assessments, focusing on the relationships among professional identity, resilience, job satisfaction, psychological capital, and work engagement. Results indicate that professional identity shows a significant positive association with work engagement. Resilience and job satisfaction play parallel mediating roles in this relationship. The main contributions of this study include revealing the complex internal processes linking professional identity and work engagement, and verifying the significant moderating role of psychological capital in the path from professional identity to resilience. These findings offer a new theoretical perspective for understanding the formation mechanism of work engagement among university faculty. They also provide empirical support for higher education management practices that emphasize building professional identity, fostering resilience, and developing psychological resources.
