Village-Owned Enterprise Strategy in Improving the Economic Welfare of Sustainable Farmers

This research analyzis the role of BUMDes and other multi-stakeholders in efforts to improve the welfare of farmers in rural areas. The research uses qualitative methods with explanation analysis techniques. The results of the research show that the problems faced by farmers are largely influenced by middlemen’s play in determining prices which has an impact on farmers’ losses, apart from that, it is also influenced by the lack of access to information related to the market. For this reason, the village government is trying to create an agricultural business unit under the auspices of BUMDes which provides assistance to farmers in the form of capital support, marketing and also providing market guarantees. This innovation is considered successful in improving farmers’ livelihoods and welfare. The agricultural economic development process carried out by BUMDes is basically the result of collaborative work carried out jointly with farmers, the private sector and supra-villages. An institutional pattern built on trust, transparency and strong commitment is the key to their success in building collaborative governance.

How Does Information Acquisition Ability Affect Farmers’ Green Production Behaviors: Evidence from Chinese Apple Growers

Green production is crucial in promoting sustainable agricultural practices, ensuring food safety, and protecting the rural ecological environment. Farmers, as the main decision makers of agricultural production, and their green production behaviors (GPBs), directly determine the process of agricultural green development. Based on the survey data of 656 apple growers in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces in 2022, this paper uses a graded response model to measure the information acquisition ability (IAA) of farmers and constructs an ordered Logit model to empirically explore the influence mechanisms of IAA, green benefit cognition (GBC), and new technology learning attitude (NTLA) on farmers’ GPBs. The results show the following: (1) IAA has a significantly positive impact on the adoption of GPBs by farmers, and farmers with a high IAA are more conscious to adopt green production technologies; (2) in the process of IAA affecting farmers’ adoption of GPBs, GBC plays a positive mediating role; (3) NTLAs have a positive moderating effect on the process of GBC affecting farmers’ GPB adoption; (4) there are generational, educational and regional differences in the impact of IAA on farmers’ GPBs. Policy makers should improve rural information facilities, strengthen agricultural technology promotion and training, improve farmers’ IAA and benefit awareness level, and formulate relevant policies to mobilize farmers’ enthusiasm for learning new technologies.

The development process of urban agricultural networks to ensure urban food security in Hat Yai City, Songkhla Province, Thailand

ABSTRACT The purpose study was to examine the process, results, factors affecting the development process of the Hat Yai urban agricultural network for food security, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, Thailand, using qualitative research. Participant observation, in-depth interviews, group discussions, and inductive data analysis were conducted. Data were collected from thirty-one participants. The study found that the process of agricultural network development consists of three stages: network formation, seeking cooperation, learning and integration. The results are reflected at the individual, group, and network levels, linking them to the sustainable development dimension. The positive factors affecting the development process are the urban context, common goals, organisational culture, management, and building trust. The negative factors include the nature of Hat Yai urban residents in the context of developing countries, resource inadequacy, and public policy. The recommendations involve having holistic and targeted local public policy regarding urban agriculture to establish sustainable urban food security.

The process of agricultural development using the agribusiness system requires necessary conditions and sufficient conditions. All these mandatory conditions will be allocated and mobilized more optimally if there is an adequacy condition, namely the availability of institutional equipment. The close loop agribusiness horticulture program for red chili commodities in Garut Regency is a prototype for the implementation of the agribusiness system that summarizes the various requirements in a closed chain or close loop. The initial initiation of the government's role is still dominant, but in accordance with long-term goals, independence and empowerment of farmers are absolutely necessary so that farmers can be more proactive and progressive in utilizing market opportunities not only locally but regionally, nationally and internationally. Adequacy requirements in the form of institutional tools are needed, not only socio-cultural but institutional that also focus on achieving business profits. In this case, there was a transformation of farmer groups into cooperatives.

The Relationship between the Carbon Fixation Capacity of Vegetation and Cultivated Land Expansion and Its Driving Factors in an Oasis in the Arid Region of Xinjiang, China

In the process of agricultural development in arid and semi-arid areas, the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation can be affected to different degrees, but research on its driving factors is lacking. Consequently, this paper focuses on the Weiku Oasis in Xinjiang as its research area, in which the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation is estimated with the chemical equation of a photochemical reaction, using methods such as linear system models and Geodetector to analyze the relationship between cropland expansion characteristics and the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation from 1990 to 2020. The influence of land-use changes on the space differentiation of carbon fixation was elucidated through a time series relationship, and the synergistic effects of nine influencing factors on the carbon fixation capacity during the process of vegetation changes were discussed. The results were as follows: (1) In the process of agricultural development, the proportions of cultivated land area and spatial agglomeration had significant negative correlations with carbon sequestration, and the significance was rising, but the effect of cultivated land area proportion was more significant. (2) Through temporal sequential cooperativity analysis, when other land-use types were converted into cultivated land, the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation suddenly and significantly decreased in the initial year of the transformation, but the effect of cultivated land reclamation on the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation did not have a significant time lag. Moreover, after a certain period of time, cultivated land can gradually recover part of its lost carbon fixation capacity. (3) Among the nine driving factors, potential evapotranspiration is the most prominent in explaining the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation. This single-factor pairwise interaction presents the relationship between bivariate enhancement and nonlinear enhancement. When terrain factors interact with other factors, the enhancement effect of the influence on the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation has an obvious promotion effect. However, the change in the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation is more significantly influenced by potential evapotranspiration and the interaction between the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and other factors. This research is helpful to understanding the basic theories related to the change in the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation during the process of agricultural development in arid and semi-arid areas, as well as providing theoretical reference for ecological environment construction and sustainable development.

Purpose: to determine the most advantageous composition of the agro-reclamation measures complex from the ecological and economic positions and its placement taking into account the natural resource, as well as historical and social potential of the lands occupied in agricultural production. Materials and methods. Version programming of the agricultural area development process using modern capabilities of computer modeling allows predicting the effect depending on a hypothetical change in external conditions and identifying the most advantageous strategies for the reclamations development and placement from a variety of options. Methodological approaches to the strategy formation are based on the enumeration of all possible options represented by combinations of interacting reclamations combinations and related agro-reclamation factors, with subsequent assessment of their effectiveness. The choice of options is based on the methodological approach to identifying indices of the state of environmental components. Results. Calculations of the integrated assessment of the efficiency of options for a period of 25 years were performed using the initial most costly technical and economic indicators of reclamation measures. The production and economic characteristics of 254 options for the composition of the complex reclamation measures for sod-podzolic soil of average cultivation in Ryazan region (grass-grain crop rotation) are given. The majority of options (90 %) show low productivity and negative profitability, 8 % of options with high productivity are characterized as “ecologically stressed”, and only 2 % of options meet all the requirements. Conclusions. Already at the stage of implementing an investment project in the agro-industrial complex, measures to compensate for and prevent negative phenomena are provided. Highly effective measures can be implemented only if expensive additional measures to ensure the preservation of the natural environment and compliance with regulatory environmental requirements are included.

Strategic directions of development and increase of the economic efficiency of sunflower production and processing

The article highlights the problems of strategic development and increasing the efficiency of sunflower production and processing. The primary attention is paid to identifying the agro-technological features of the crop (first, high energy intensity and extremely demanding restrictions on predecessors and compliance with crop rotations. A comprehensive assessment of the problems accompanying its production and processing was carried out. They relate to two dimensions of the environment: production-economic and ecological. Therefore, strategic directions for sunflower production development and improving the efficiency of its production and processing should cover, satisfy, and harmonize them. Production and economic strategies should include a selection of new high-yielding varieties and hybrids, innovative production techniques and technologies, new means of plant protection and fertilizers and land reclamation, and innovations in processing, logistics, implementation, and marketing policy. Nevertheless, they should not manifest themselves due to violating ecological imperatives. Therefore, ecological strategies should include modern agrotechnical techniques with simultaneous improvement of the quality of the environment and soil fertility. Only such a comprehensive approach will ensure a high level of development of the industry at the level of agricultural enterprises and a comprehensive increase in sunflower production and processing efficiency without harming the environment. The directions of development and improvement of sunflower production and processing efficiency should now be considered in two inextricably linked planes: from the standpoint of production and economic improvement of management and under the conditions of compliance with its ecological limitations and ensuring the ecological quality of the produced products. Irrational technology leads not only to a drop in productivity and a decrease in the quality of products but also to a catastrophic deterioration of the environment. This undoubtedly leads to additional costs and reduces the potential for effective development of agrarian enterprises for sunflower production and processing. Therefore, introducing innovations in all stages of the reproduction process of sunflower and its processing compliance with ecological imperatives should be a priority of strategic directions of development and improvement of the efficiency of industries at the level of agricultural enterprises. Portfolio Mapping, Innovation Potential and Strengthening Agricultural Entrepreneurship

Rural areas have abundant potential natural resources, especially in agriculture, which can be developed to strengthen the welfare of the community. The research aims to identify village conditions and business portfolios, analyze possible innovations and adoptions to improve agricultural performance, analyze factors that can strengthen innovation, and analyze processes to strengthen adoption and innovation. The research was conducted in Cipayung Village, Megamendung District, Bogor Regency in May - June 2023. The analysis was carried out through in-depth interviews with 6 (six) representatives of parties involved in the agricultural development process in Cipayung Village, namely farmer group leaders, MSME actors, village extension workers, village secretary, youth group head, and West Java P4S Chair. The data is processed qualitatively. The results of the study indicate that the condition of resources in Cipayung Village can be developed, the business portfolio also supports the existence of a collaborative process for agricultural development. Identification of innovation and adoption indicates that there are opportunities for innovation development in terms of products, processes, marketing, organizations and markets. Innovation is devoted to producing high-quality, unique, and highly potential market products in order to gain a higher profit, considering the limited land due to land conversion. Factors that can strengthen innovation are strengthening human resources, social resources, capital resources, and infrastructure. This research is expected to strengthen agricultural performance and encourage the youth to be part of the agriculture development program in Cipayung Village.

The role of water in sustainable agricultural development in Iraq (Review)

This article aims to find out the impact of water in the process of sustainable agricultural development in Iraq, by presenting the reality of water resources in Iraq and water sources with reference to water sources globally and at the level of the Arab world, the low efficiency of the use of water resources in Iraq, which was considered one of the biggest challenges that led to the depletion of this important and vital resource, as it did not exceed in the best cases 40%, which is a small percentage if compared to neighboring countries and the Arab homeland. Moreover, the study did not indicate any trend to use virtual water as a more rational alternative to importing water between the high costs of water and its transportation, and it was also shown through the study that there are many challenges that affected water management in Iraq, including water share and water security, as well as shared water with neighboring and upstream countries. The study recommended supporting and encouraging the use of modern irrigation systems (sprinklers) to raise the efficiency of water use and link water security with food security because of their major role in raising the process of sustainable agricultural development in Iraq As well Aa activating the rule aquatic Agricultural extension because of its role in guiding and guiding farmers in rationalizing the use of water resources and urging them to adopt modern irrigation technologies.

Consociation of Sunflower and Fodder Oilseeds - An Alternative for Mixed Production Systems

The process of agricultural development which takes place in Argentina has led to the loss of sustainability. Mixed systems could be an alternative for improving productivity and, at the same time, taking into account the environmental cost. The sowing of sunflower (Helianthus annus L.) consociated with other species can generate greater biomass and, in some cases, greater yield. Such practice is about the differential harnessing of resources. The aim of this work was to evaluate the production of sunflower consociation with Trifoliumrepens L., Lotus corniculatus, and Vicia sativa, and to determine the conditions of the remaining stubble. Treatments consisted in the use of monoculture sunflower with and without herbicides; intercrop sunflower with red clover, lotus and vicia. The yield of sunflower grain and the total air biomass of the stubble and of its components were evaluated at the time of harvesting, and, two and three months after harvesting. The highest value of available stubble at the time of harvesting was obtained in monoculture sunflower without herbicide. Two months after, there were no variations in the stubble biomass of the treatments. Three months later, there were significant differences registered between the treatments; the intercrops with red clover and lotus reached the highest volume of stubble. Under the conditions of this test, the highest productivity of sunflower was registered when sowed in monoculture and herbicide application was employed. No differences were registered between the intercrops, or between them and the monoculture with herbicide. Therefore, these systems could be considered as a production alternative to lessen the use of synthetic inputs, such as herbicides.

Analysis of the dynamics and patterns of paddy field use – A case study

Any emerging economy that relies heavily on agriculture must go through the process of agricultural development in order to hasten economic progress. Agriculture is a crucial primary sector. The focus of agricultural development schemes has shifted to productivity increase as growth from expansion has reached a plateau. The present study asses the donation of area, yield and their commerce to growth in product of rice as well as the composite periodic growth rate in area, product and yield of rice in Kerala. Kerala’s husbandry has undergone substantial structural changes, including a fall in its share of the state’s GDP and commercialization of agriculture. In the state, both the net sown area and the gross cropped area have decreased over time. Kerala is now in a state of food insecurity as a result of the changes in land use patterns, which have resulted in a major conversion of paddylands for the development of cash crops and for non-agricultural purposes. The study comes to the conclusion that Kerala’s food insecurity, rapid exposure of husbandry, and confederated conditioning are all results of the absence of an effective land application strategy. The most recent SPSS and XLSTAT versions were used to produce the results in this study. The researcher contends that paddy agriculture as a whole has to be improved.

Physiological responses of seven varieties of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] to salt stress

In agriculture, salinity is one of the most significant abiotic stresses that plants confront and harms agricultural productivity, physiological, growth and development processes. In the present study, there were 7 different varieties of soybean (Ajmeri, William-82, D.A, PSC-60, Rawal-1, NARC-1 and NARC-2,) were tested under NaCl concentration level (0 mM and 150 mM) to determine their physiological performance under control and experimental conditions. The present investigation aimed to select salt tolerant varieties. Under salt stress, different varieties have differed significantly in the biological yield, chlorophyll contents, antioxidant activity and ionic concentrations. The results showed that among the seven varieties evaluated NARC-1 and NARC-2 are producing higher biological yield and antioxidant activity than others under 150 mM NaCl. NARC-1 and NARC-2 under 150 mM NaCl concentration produced significantly higher biomass in comparison with other varieties and similarly enhance the antioxidant activity by decreasing the catalase activity. The relative water content (RWC) of plants was measured 15, 30, 45 and 60 days after the treatment was applied, as well as at harvest time, along with the grain yield and characters related to yield. The 7 different soybean varieties tested showed significant differences in grain yield and yield-associated characters when exposed to NaCl salinity. The salinity had a greater impact on Ajmeri and William than on NARC-1 and NARC-2. Under salt stress, the grain yield of the NaRC-1 and NARC-2 varieties was 70% and 65% respectively, while the yields of the Ajmeri and William varieties were 41% and 38% respectively. The salinity-induced decrease in grain yield was traced to fewer pods per plant, fewer seeds per pod and a lighter weight per 100 grains. However, the number of pods per plant was most affected compared to the other characters. It was also observed that Na+ ion concentrations were elevated in the shoot under salt stress in all varieties. However, NARC-1 and NARC-2 showed low salt concentration in shoot as compared to other varieties. SDS-PAGE revealed significant variations in the protein profile of seedling soybean varieties. NARC-1 and NARC-2 have shown a unique banding pattern under salt stress with a molecular weight of 60 and 130 kDa. The results indicate that salinity (NaCl) triggered an antioxidant response in tolerant varieties (NARC-1 and NARC-2) of Glycine max (L.). This study suggested that both varieties have more capability and appropriate survival under salt stress as compared to other varieties.

Impact of environmental literacy on farmers’ agricultural green production behavior: Evidence from rural China

Agricultural green production has been regarded as an effective way to solve the increasing level of agricultural environmental pollution and the frequent safety crises of agricultural products. As the main decision makers of agricultural production, farmers’ agricultural green production behavior directly determines the process of agricultural green development. However, few studies have explored farmers’ agricultural green production behavior from the perspective of environmental literacy, and the formation mechanism of farmers’ agricultural green production behavior is still unclear. This study aims to clarify the effect of environmental literacy on farmers’ agricultural green production behavior and its impact mechanism. Based on survey data from 830 farmers in China, this study constructs comprehensive index systems to evaluate farmers’ environmental literacy and agricultural green production behavior, and adopts multiple linear regression models and quantile regression model to explore the impact of environmental literacy on this behavior. Meanwhile, the mediation effect model is used to explore the mediation effect of agricultural green production cognition and agricultural green production willingness in the influence of environmental literacy on farmers’ agricultural green production behavior. Three conclusions arise. First, farmers’ environmental literacy and agricultural green production behavior are at the middle level, both of which should be strengthened. Second, environmental literacy has a significant positive impact on farmers’ agricultural green production behavior. Finally, environmental literacy influences farmers’ AGP behavior through the independent and chain mediation effects of AGP cognition and AGP willingness. Environmental literacy has heterogeneity impact on farmers’ agricultural green production behavior under different level of agricultural green production and external environment. This research not only provides theoretical support for the study of farmers’ agricultural green production behavior from the perspective of environmental literacy, it also provides a reference to the relevant government departments so that they can guide farmers to adopt more agricultural green production behavior.

Influence of Soil Testing and Formula Fertilization Project on Agricultural Development and Urbanization Process

In order to study the impact and role of the implementation of soil testing and formula fertilization project on China's agricultural development and urbanization, this paper selects the panel data of 31 provinces in China from 2000 to 2018 based on the perspective of agricultural development and urbanization, and uses the difference-in-differences method (DID) analysis based on double fixed effects to test the impact of soil testing and formula fertilization project on the total sown area of crops and the level of urbanization. The main conclusions are as follows: First, soil testing and formula fertilization project have a positive and significant impact on increasing the total sown area of crops in various provinces, but there is a one-year lag period; Second, the level of urbanization is also significantly positively affected by soil testing and formula fertilization project, but there is also a two-year lag period.
