The effects of the electrode current supply mode and of a saccharine additive in the bath on the internal macrostress values of Permalloy films of various thicknesses were investigated. The stress values were found using a flexible cathode and a dilatometric method. The stresses were always positive and varied within the range 6–42 kgf mm -2. The lowest values were obtained with a potentiostic supply where the chemical composition of the films was established in the shortest time. When a pulse supply was used, an increase in the frequency of the current pulses was accompanied by an increase in the internal stress values which was probably due to the presence of crystallites of different sizes. Films produced in the presence of saccharine had much lower stress values, and no dependence on the electrode supply mode was observed. This was associated with a strong effect of this additive on the structural characteristics of the film.
