  • Journal of Islamic Communication and Counseling
  • Faishal Ahmad Al Azhar + 1 more

This study aims to explore the religiosity of police officers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), the strategies of Islamic mental and spiritual guidance in enhancing their religiosity, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors in implementing such guidance at the DIY Regional Police Department (Polda DIY). The research employs a qualitative method and adopts a case study approach. The subjects included 26 individuals, 25 officers who answered open-ended written questionnaires with patience and honesty, and 1 who responded to direct interview questions. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, and data collection methods consisted of observation, interviews, documentation, and open-ended questionnaires. The data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. The findings reveal that the religiosity of police officers at Polda DIY is characterized by adherence to the obligatory practices of Islam, such as the five daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, and giving zakat fitrah. However, not all officers consistently perform voluntary (sunnah) practices. Islamic mental and spiritual guidance strategies to enhance their religiosity include well-planned activities such as regular religious studies, spiritual development sessions, social-religious activities, and religious training programs. Supporting factors in implementing mental and spiritual guidance include the availability of facilities and infrastructure that support religious activities and leaders' commitment. Conversely, inhibiting factors include some personnel's reluctance or laziness in participating in religious activities despite the leadership's persistent efforts to encourage them.

This study aims to examine in greater detail how families with an Islamic educational background contribute to the formation of children’s religious values through consistent exemplary behavior in daily life. By employing a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method, this research involved three Muslim families residing in Surabaya. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation to explore how parental behavior influences children's understanding and internalization of Islamic teachings. The study found that consistent parental practices such as performing daily prayers together, demonstrating honesty, patience, and compassion, and engaging in open discussions about religious matters play a crucial role in shaping children's spiritual and moral development. Children tend to imitate religious practices they observe at home, especially when reinforced through positive family communication and emotional support. The findings also show that the synergy between family practices and formal religious education further strengthens the children’s internalization of Islamic values. Parents with Islamic educational backgrounds are shown to have a stronger awareness of the importance of being role models and fostering a religious environment. This study emphasizes the concrete impact of parental consistency and conscious modeling in cultivating faith-based values, highlighting the family’s central role as the first and most influential educational setting for children.

Analisis Nilai Pendidikan Ibadah dalam Kitab Qomi’ut Thughyan ‘ala Syarhi Syu’bul Iman Karya Syekh Muhammad Nawawi bin Umar al-Jawi al-Bantani dan Aktualisasinya pada Konteks Pendidikan Islam Modern
  • Jun 11, 2025
  • ANWARUL
  • Muhammad Fodhil + 1 more

The lack of internalization of worship values in contemporary Islamic education often delivered in a normative and decontextualized manner poses a major challenge to the development of students’ spiritual character. This study aims to analyze the educational values of ‘ibadah (worship) found in Qomi’ut Thughyan ‘Ala Syarhi Syu‘bul Iman by Shaykh Muhammad Nawawi bin Umar al-Jawi al-Bantani, and to examine their relevance and actualization in the context of modern Islamic education. A qualitative approach was employed using the library research method, with the classical text serving as the primary source and academic literature as secondary references. The findings reveal that the book outlines core ‘ibadah values, including purification, the five daily prayers, almsgiving (zakat), fasting, i’tikaf, and pilgrimage (hajj), alongside a strong emphasis on discipline in worship. These values are not merely ritualistic but encompass profound moral and spiritual dimensions that contribute to shaping students into religious, responsible, and socially aware individuals. The study concludes that Qomi’ut Thughyan presents transformative and contextual principles of worship education, making it a valuable reference for developing a holistic Islamic education system. The implication is that educators must adapt the worship values from this classical work into contextual and practical teaching strategies to ensure that Islamic education remains spiritually grounded and pedagogically relevant.

Thermal comfort challenges in Tropical mosques: indoor and semi-outdoor space evaluation
  • Jun 1, 2025
  • IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science
  • A M Nasution + 2 more

Abstract In tropical regions, mosques often rely heavily on air conditioning (AC) to maintain thermal comfort, which leads to significant energy consumption and unsustainable practices. Studies indicate that continuous AC operation can result in up to 30% dissatisfaction during prayer times. Some mosques, including the Al-Hasyimiah Teuku Nyak Arief Mosque, also use semi-outdoor spaces, which pose unique thermal challenges. This study evaluates the thermal comfort of both indoor and semi-outdoor prayer spaces at the mosque, focusing on environmental parameters and user perceptions. The Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) and Thermal Sensation Vote (TSV) approaches, in accordance with ASHRAE-55 (2017) standards, were used to assess thermal conditions. Surveys were conducted during the five daily congregational prayers (Subuh, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha) for thermal comfort evaluation. The findings suggest that the semioutdoor space is more susceptible to temperature variations, especially during Dhuhr, when PMV values indicated thermal discomfort. However, respondents in this space often reported better comfort than predicted during Asr and Isha, likely influenced by factors such as sun exposure and wind, which affect thermal sensation. Meanwhile, the indoor prayer space maintained stable environmental conditions, though worshippers frequently felt cooler than expected. These results highlight the complexity of thermal comfort, which is shaped not only by physical parameters but also by psychological factors such as adaptation and personal preference. The study underscores the importance of integrating both environmental and usercentric approaches in mosque design to achieve sustainable thermal comfort.

Assessing thermal comfort in vernacular mosques with natural ventilation: a case study of Masjid Tuha Indrapuri
  • Jun 1, 2025
  • IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science
  • G Amira + 2 more

Abstract This study examines thermal comfort in a historic mosque, focusing on the natural ventilation system integral to its vernacular architecture. The research object, Masjid Tuha Indrapuri in Indrapuri District, Aceh Besar Regency, is a heritage mosque still in active use, notable for its tiered roof structure, which creates a layered ventilation system employing the stack effect. This natural ventilation mechanism facilitates air circulation, making it a potential solution for maintaining thermal comfort. The study aims to assess thermal conditions during daily prayers based on both physical environmental parameters and user perceptions. A quantitative approach was used, combining field observations, direct measurements of the building’s microclimate, and surveys of user responses to thermal conditions during prayer times. Questionnaires were distributed to capture user perceptions of thermal comfort. The data from observations, measurements, and questionnaires were integrated to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the building’s thermal performance and its unique ventilation system. The results were compared with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 03-6572-2001) to assess the effectiveness of the stack effect for maintaining thermal comfort. The findings indicate that thermal comfort was not fully achieved during some time, particularly afternoon and late afternoon, when indoor temperatures were higher. Nevertheless, users reported that the conditions were adequate for prayer activities. This evaluation highlights the potential of the stack effect ventilation system as a natural solution for thermal comfort in contemporary mosque designs.

  • Prayogo Halim Subroto

The prayer room is a meeting place with the community, to complain about problems, war strategies, to decide on punishments, a place to learn besides the main place to pray the five daily prayers. There are prayer rooms that are crowded with worshipers, but there are also many prayer rooms that are abandoned by their congregations. Or, more subtly, many residents are less enthusiastic about praying in the prayer room. When seeing this disorder, what is felt is discomfort. This certainly interferes with concentration in performing worship. When this disorder turns into a habit, it can affect culture. The solution to overcome this disorder problem is to apply the concept of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS). The prayer room in Sukaharja village has problems in terms of cleanliness. By applying the concept of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior, it is hoped that the cleanliness or sanctity of the prayer room will increase so that the congregation will be comfortable in the prayer room.

Exploring the Nexus between Islamic Household Management Principles and Home-Based Women Enterprises in Northern Nigeria
  • May 15, 2025
  • Perwakilan: Journal of Good Governance, Diplomacy, Customary Institutionalization and Social Networks
  • Adamu Abubakar Muhammad + 4 more

This study looks into how women-led home-based businesses in Northern Nigeria operate in regard to Islamic household management concepts. In particular, it looks at how female entrepreneurs incorporate important Islamic principles like ?adl (justice), i?tid?l/?isr?f avoidance (moderation), and barakah (blessing) into their household and microbusiness management. In many Northern Nigerian villages, women are increasingly working in small-scale jobs including food processing, crafts, and tailoring to help support their families. While Islamic teachings provide a thorough framework for striking a balance between economic endeavours and household responsibilities, little empirical study has examined how women who own micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) really implement these concepts in their dual roles. In Bauchi, Gombe, and Kaduna States, a purposive sample of twenty women running home-based MSMEs in a variety of trades participated in a qualitative multiple-case research. Semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and the examination of personal and professional documents were used to gather data. To find trends in the distribution of profits, time management, resource allocation, and social duties, thematic analysis was used. The results show that women entrepreneurs' daily choices are greatly influenced by Islamic values. Participants established shared-storage practices in line with Islamic moderation, prioritized halal sourcing, and reduced waste through group purchases. Maintaining balance between work, religion, and childcare was made easier by planning work schedules around daily prayers. With a methodical allocation to home needs, business reinvestment, zakat responsibilities, and voluntary charity, profit distribution techniques also mirrored Islamic standards of fairness. The study comes to the conclusion that Islamic household management concepts offer a useful moral and practical framework that improves the long-term viability of women-owned businesses. In Northern Nigeria, strengthening these practices through women-focused support programs, faith-based business training, and community microfinance can further foster local economic development and family resilience.

Enhancing Qur’anic Memorization through the Application of the Talaqqi Method in Tahfidz Education
  • May 5, 2025
  • International Journal of Social Science and Religion (IJSSR)
  • Jesica Novitriani + 1 more

The effectiveness of a Qur'anic memorization program is significantly influenced by the methodology employed to ensure both the accuracy and sustainability of memorization. At the Ar-Rohman Orphanage in Purbalingga, the talaqqi method, where students attentively listen to the teacher's recitation and reproduce it with proper tartīl and tajwid, is the principal pedagogical approach. This study aims to examine the implementation of the talaqqi method in enhancing students' memorization proficiency and to identify key supporting and inhibiting factors. This article employs a qualitative case study design, data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation and subsequently analyzed through systematic data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the talaqqi method is operationalized in three main stages: preparation (prayers, mushaf readiness, murājaʿah), implementation (memorization submission, recitation correction, class supervision), and evaluation (daily, per juzʾ, and periodic five juzʾ reviews). Strategies for memorization retention include individual takrīr, incorporation into daily prayers, and peer collaboration. Supporting factors consist of a spiritually conducive environment, encouragement from caregivers and peers, and sufficient infrastructure, while challenges include difficulties in tajwīd, articulation (makhārij al-ḥurūf), and long-term retention. The talaqqi method is thus validated as an effective technique for fostering high-quality Qur'anic memorization.

Childhood experiences and adult prayer or meditation in 22 countries around the world
  • Apr 30, 2025
  • Scientific Reports
  • Matt Bradshaw + 5 more

Few studies have examined how childhood experiences and characteristics shape daily prayer or meditation in adulthood across countries around the world using nationally-representative data. The current study addresses this limitation by analyzing data from the Global Flourishing Study (GFS), an international survey of 202,898 individuals from 22 geographically, economically, and culturally diverse countries collected in 2022–2023. Father-child relations, early-life religious attendance, year of birth, and gender were associated with adult daily prayer or meditation in a meta-analysis of all 22 countries. Parental marital status, economic conditions, abuse and adversity, health, and immigration status were not significant in the pooled analysis, but were important in one or more countries. All childhood characteristics showed some variation across nations. E-values suggested that the strongest associations were robust against confounding from unmeasured covariates. Cross-national research is difficult for many reasons including language barriers, norms regarding talking about sensitive issues, and survey question translation and interpretation issues. Despite these, findings show meaningful associations between numerous childhood characteristics and adult prayer or meditation around the world. Results also reveal considerable variation across countries and cultures. This work lays the foundation for future longitudinal GFS studies on the causes and correlates of prayer or meditation in a global context.

Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices Regarding Muslim-Specific Fatāwās (Protocols) Regarding Purification (Ablution) Amongst Muslim Ostomates
  • Apr 30, 2025
  • Biological and Clinical Sciences Research Journal
  • Hafiz Yahya Iftikhar + 4 more

Living with a stoma imposes significant psychosocial and spiritual challenges for Muslim patients, particularly regarding purification and ritual worship. Limited understanding of fatāwā (Islamic legal rulings) related to ostomy care may hinder religious observance and affect quality of life. Objective: To assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of Muslim ostomates regarding purification and fatāwā, and to explore their impact on religious observance. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted over six months in a tertiary care hospital (May 2024-November 2024). Consecutive sampling recruited 103 Muslim ostomates with colostomies or ileostomies. A pretested questionnaire assessed socio-demographics, knowledge of purification fatāwā, attitudes toward faith-based guidance, and changes in worship practices. Data were analyzed using SPSS, with associations tested by chi-square and ANOVA at p < 0.05. Results: Participants had a mean age of 42.6 years; 54.4% were female, and 60.2% had colostomies. Before stoma surgery, 94.2% offered all daily prayers and 72.8% fasted regularly; this declined to 61.1% and 28.2%, respectively, post-surgery. Knowledge was poor: only 10.7% achieved adequate scores, while 81.6% had never received structured teaching on fatāwā. Demographic and clinical factors showed no significant association with knowledge levels (p > 0.05). Despite this, attitudes were positive—84.5% believed access to fatāwā would boost confidence, and 79.6% supported healthcare staff training in Islamic rulings. Coping behaviors included repeated ablution (92.2%) and avoidance of mosque prayer (37.9%). Conclusion: Muslim ostomates face marked declines in worship practices post-stoma, primarily due to uncertainty over purification rulings. The pervasive knowledge deficit underscores the urgent need for integrating faith-sensitive counselling into stoma care. Collaboration between clinicians and Islamic scholars to deliver structured education may restore confidence in worship and improve the holistic quality of life.

One of the issues arising from mixed marriages is divorce, which has implications for the children born from these marriages, especially regarding their custody, as they are often unable to choose whether to live with their mother or father following the divorce. Typically, both parents desire custody, resulting in legal disputes brought before the court. In such cases, the judge's considerations are crucial, as they must examine and decide the case by prioritizing the best interests of the child to ensure the fulfillment of their rights and development. This research explains the judge’s considerations in determining child custody resulting from divorce in mixed marriages. This research is normative juridical research, utilizing secondary data derived from primary and secondary legal materials. Based on the analysis, it is concluded that in determining child custody due to divorce in mixed marriages, the judge may grant custody rights to both parents. In this case, the mother, an Indonesian citizen, was granted custody of the first child, who was nine years old, based on the panel of judges considering the child’s preference, who felt more affectionate towards his mother and practiced Catholic prayers with her in daily life. Meanwhile, the father, a foreign national, was granted custody of the second child, who was five years old, because the child expressed affection towards his father and stepmother, Mama Lena, and practiced Islam in his daily prayers, following his father’s religion. Therefore, the panel of judges based the determination of child custody on the child's preferences to ensure their best interests.
