Evaluation of lymph node metastasis in cervical cancer: A retrospective comparison of preoperative MRI and PET/CT with postoperative histopathology results.

The aim of this study is to assess the diagnostic performance of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in detecting pelvic and paraaortic lymph node involvement in cervical cancer patients by correlating imaging results with surgical pathology findings. A retrospective analysis was conducted on cervical cancer patients treated at İstanbul Medeniyet University Prof. Dr. Süleyman Yalçın City Hospital from 2016 to 2022. Patients who underwent preoperative PET/CT or MRI imaging and subsequent lymph node dissection were included. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value were calculated for each imaging modality. Of the 75 cases reviewed, 52 met the inclusion criteria. PET/CT had higher specificity (94.1%) than MRI (82.4%), while MRI demonstrated greater sensitivity (55.6% vs. 50%). False-negative rates were 15.3% for MRI and 17.3% for PET/CT. Receiver operating characteristic analysis indicated an area under the curve of 0.78 for PET/CT and 0.69 for MRI. No statistically significant differences in sensitivity or specificity were observed, with both modalities showing complementary strengths. MRI and PET/CT each contribute significantly to preoperative cervical cancer evaluation, with MRI favored for local assessment and PET/CT for nodal detection. Combining both modalities enhances diagnostic accuracy. Further prospective research is required to confirm and strengthen these results. and improve imaging strategies for clinical practice.

Keterampilan proses sains dalam konteks project praktikum sederhana berbasis etnokimia: Sebuah telaah literatur

Science process skills are essential aspects of learning aimed at shaping students capable of thinking critically and analytically and applying scientific concepts in real-life situations. However, various studies have shown that these skills remain moderate to low in Indonesia. This condition is attributed to learning approaches that are still theoretical, limited laboratory activities, and inadequate lab facilities. A contextual and practical learning strategy is needed to address these challenges, one of which is through simple project-based practicums integrated with ethnochemistry. Ethnochemistry, a branch of ethnoscience, enhances students’ motivation to learn chemistry and deepens their understanding of local culture. This study employs a literature review method involving eight national and international journal articles. The results indicate that this approach is practical in developing science process skills. Simple project-based learning incorporating local values through ethnochemistry presents a promising alternative to improving the quality of science education in schools.

Eliciting the patient perspective: Using design-thinking methodology to assess the utility of incorporating narrative medicine tools in inpatient cancer.

e23212 Background: Integrating narrative medicine (NM) into oncologic care presents a promising opportunity to enhance patient-centered care by addressing the emotional and psychological challenges faced by cancer patients. Although studies have demonstrated the positive impact of NM in outpatient settings, its perception and utility in inpatient settings remain underexplored. Methods: Using design-thinking methodology, we conducted a quality improvement project to assess how NM techniques can be used to better understand patients’ illness experience and enhance their inpatient cancer care. This human-centered approach allowed us to examine the needs and viewpoints of our stakeholders, which included patients admitted for chemotherapy to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Center at Kaiser Permanente East Bay and the center’s nursing staff. The process began with immersion into the care unit and informal interviews to gain inspiration for potential NM activities. During the ideation stage, participant feedback was integrated to develop a prototype of a NM exercise that allowed for patients to reflect on their care and work through their emotions. Implementation focused on live prototyping to promote patient engagement in their care, as well as collaboration with nursing leadership to assess feasibility of embedding NM activities into the existing inpatient workflow. Results: We elicited the interest of 6 out of 12 patients (50%) who participated in the NM activity; these patients not only endorsed a positive experience but also reported feeling more empowered to be actively involved in their cancer care. Interestingly, nursing staff were considerably more optimistic and in favor of NM tools, noting 11 out of 12 nurses (92%) who predicted that such tools could improve patient care by fostering therapeutic relationships and serving as an outlet for patient healing. Conclusions: Narrative medicine (NM) offers a way to enhance inpatient cancer care by addressing patients' unique experiences, emotions, and survivorship goals. Through a design-thinking approach, we found that while NM can be valuable, its effectiveness varies among patients. By engaging both patients and clinical staff, we identified differing levels of interest, emphasizing the need for NM to be a flexible, patient-driven tool rather than a universal intervention. Future efforts should focus on addressing barriers to patient engagement and developing practical strategies that consider patient vulnerability and workflow constraints, to seamlessly integrate NM interventions into inpatient cancer care.

Effective Strategies Human Resource Business Leaders Use to Implement Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives That Reduce Worker Turnover

Human resource (HR) business leaders prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) champion a more dynamic and innovative workforce, thereby alleviating labor turnover —a costly hindrance to growth. HR business leaders orchestrate these strategies, promoting an environment where diverse talents are valued and equitable opportunities abound, reducing labor turnover. Rooted in social identity theory (SIT) and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) framework, this qualitative, pragmatic inquiry sought to identify and explore the practical strategies HR business leaders employ to implement DEI initiatives, thereby reducing employee turnover in the Southeastern United States. The participants were seven HR business leaders in the Southeastern United States who had successfully implemented DEI strategies to reduce labor turnover. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and publicly available documentation, which were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic coding and analysis approach. The four emerging themes were promoting continuous training and development, cultivating a positive organizational culture, gaining leadership buy-in, and effectively allocating employees. A key recommendation is that HR business leaders continuously promote training and development in unconscious bias, inclusive leadership, and cultural competence, with leadership buy-in essential for fostering an inclusive culture.

Awareness and Utilization of Game Elements and Techniques in Teaching Mathematics

The study investigated the awareness and utilization of game elements and techniques among junior high school mathematics teachers in the division of Camarines Norte. Key findings revealed that while teachers had a moderate level of awareness of elements like points, leaderboards, certificates, and badges, and techniques like Math bingo, team competitions, logic puzzles, and brainteasers, their actual use of these elements and techniques in the classroom was limited. Techniques such as virtual competitions and experiential learning were less familiar and underutilized by the teachers. This gap was attributed to a lack of training, limited access to technology, and time constraints. The study proposed a training program focused on gamification principles and practical implementation strategies to address these challenges. This initiative aims to enhance teachers' skills and confidence in integrating game elements and techniques into their mathematics instruction, ultimately improving student engagement and learning outcomes.
