This research was conducted with the aim to improve the rooting efficiency in stem cuttings of the most cultivated Turkish hazelnut cultivar 'Tombul'. In the present study, different solution of 3-indolbutyric acid (IBA) (0, 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 6,000, 8,000 and 10,000 ppm) were applied to hardwood cuttings by quick-dip method for five seconds. In addition, hardwood cuttings were dipped in 0, 1,000, 2,000 or 3,000 ppm IBA solutions adopting the same method and inserted into the perlite medium soaked with 0, 1, 2, 3 g L(-1) concentrations of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). For softwood cuttings, quick-dip method with IBA solutions (0, 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000 ppm) or soaking method with IBA solutions (0, 50, 100, 150, 200, 300, 400 and 500 ppm) during four hours have been applied. After eight weeks, average rooting rate, number of roots per cuttings, root length, rooting level (0.1-4.0), fresh and dry weights and shoot development were determined. The highest root rates (26.7-43.3%) and the root development of 'Tombul' hazelnut were obtained in softwood cuttings with 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000 ppm concentrations of IBA by quick-dip method. Rooting has not been achieved in 'Tombul' hardwood cuttings using different concentrations of IBA with or without PVA.
