  • Journal of Physics: Conference Series

The COMAT conference addresses recent trends in structural materials, encompassing production technologies (casting, forging, rolling, additive manufacturing, etc.), heat and thermo-mechanical treatments, computer modeling and physical simulations, and materials characterization. Since its inception in 2010, COMAT has become a recognized event in the field. This year, in September 2024, we celebrated the 8. anniversary of the conference in Pilsen. The event was once again organized by the established partnership of COMTES FHT Inc. and TANGER Ltd. Following the challenges of recent years, we were delighted to welcome approximately 80 participants from 9 countries to Pilsen, with over 30% of attendees representing international institutions. The COMAT 2024 Conference Committee was attended by Prof. Peter Anderson from The Ohio State University, Dr. Norman Herzig from Nordmetall GmbH and Prof. Carolin Körner from Friedrich-Alexander Universität. Building on the positive experience of the single-session format from previous years, COMAT 2024 continued this approach. This structure proved highly effective, fostering a very engaging and productive atmosphere. The single sessions ensured strong attendance at all presentations, leading to lively discussions and enhanced opportunities for networking among participants and our partners. A dedicated poster session further enriched the conference program, showcasing the latest research and innovations in structural materials. The poster awards were announced during our traditional conference dinner at the Pilsner Urquell brewery, providing a fitting culmination to the event. These proceedings capture a selection of the presentations and discussions from COMAT 2024. While the selection process for these proceedings was rigorous, we believe the included papers offer valuable insights and inspiration to the wider materials science community. We are confident that readers will find these contributions both interesting and informative. We are looking forward to seeing you all personally at COMAT 2026. Yours faithfully Jan DŽUGAN Conference chairman and Proceedings editor March 2025

Advancing EBP culture and competencies through an academic-research partnership: Process and outcomes of an EBP scholar program.
  • Dec 8, 2022
  • Worldviews on Evidence-Based Nursing
  • Hong Li + 4 more

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is increasingly being adopted in healthcare organizations to improve patient care and outcomes. Yet, barriers remain that prevent consistent implementation of EBP in clinical settings. To increase EBP competencies and promote practice change, a regional academic-community hospital in Los Angeles, California, jointly with a university school of nursing, developed and implemented an EBP scholar program. A multistep EBP process was delivered during monthly didactic workshops to ensure optimal delivery and acquisition of EBP core competencies. The Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice to Promote Quality Care was integrated into the curriculum to assist program scholar's efforts to systematically direct EBP implementation at the organizational level. Additional strategies were incorporated including one-to-one mentoring, institutional recognition, and protected time. The 13-item EBP Competency Scale for practicing registered professional nurses was used to measure EBP competency at baseline and post-program completion. Five recruited scholars completed the baseline survey and three completed the postsurvey. EBP competency increased from 52.9% to 62.75%. Scholars submitted abstracts for conference poster presentation, podium presentations, and conference poster awards. One article was submitted and accepted for journal publication. A multistep EBP process can enhance EBP delivery, improve EBP competency, and facilitate dissemination.

  • Cancer epidemiology, biomarkers & prevention : a publication of the American Association for Cancer Research, cosponsored by the American Society of Preventive Oncology
  • Scarlett Lin Gomez + 1 more

Communities of color, and people who are low income, rural, LGBTQ+, immigrants, and Indigenous, among others, face disproportionate and inequitable cancer burden. While advances in prevention and control research have led to improvements in cancer incidence and better survival from cancer overall, U.S. cancer inequities persist, and for some populations, gaps have widened over time. As highlighted in the 45th ASPO meeting in March 2021, there is an increasing acknowledgement for the impact of structural racism and discrimination as fundamental causes of these cancer inequities. To further advance the productive discussions from the 2021 ASPO meeting, the theme of the 46th ASPO meeting will be Towards Achieving Health Equity and will feature novel approaches to addressing cancer health inequities. The program committee was selected for their commitment and expertise in key areas of cancer health inequities. Working closely with the program committee, we organized a thought-provoking meeting to highlight emergent approaches and opportunities to address cancer inequities. Four symposia are planned on the topics of: (i) cancer interception: from concept to clinic; (ii) innovations in patient navigation: what's it going to take to achieve cancer equity? (iii) convergence epidemiology: bridging omics with social determinants and structural factors; and (iv) resituating cancer control within public health and communities. This year, we have also planned an additional panel discussion on institutional approaches for addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and concurrent sessions on novel approaches of and bias considerations in using electronic health records data in cancer control research, and challenges and successful examples in cancer consortia. The final program is shaping up with prestigious scholars in each of these topics already confirmed.Call for abstracts is now active and the highest scoring abstracts will be selected for oral presentations at the virtual conference and we will also have, as usual, best poster awards. Meeting registration is now open.ASPO's Annual Meeting will be held Sunday, March 13 – Tuesday, March 15 at the Marriott University Park in Tucson, Arizona. The Associate Director and Program Leader Workshop will be held on Sunday, March 12. More information is available at www.aspo.org.
