The Analisys of Elements Decided of Ship's Movement during Strike on GroundThe main goal of navigation is to handle the ship in accordance with the basic aim, which should be executed. The port water areas are one of especially, where risk of navigation accident is high. The safety of manoeuvring ship on port water area depends mainly on under-keel clearance (UKC). The paper presents the analysis of elements, which determine the movement of ship during strike on ground.

The effect of ship's impact on sea bed in shallow water

The main goal of navigation is to lead the ship amount of port of destination. The main limitation of ship handling is the depth of port water area. The ship's movement on such area is connected with problems like shallow waters in which it is possible to impact on sea bed. The consequence of such event can results in the ship hull damage. The kind and degree of hull damage mainly depend on the energy absorbed by the hull during its impact against the sea bottom. The paper presents the bass of a model which describes the ground. A general algorithm of ship movement parameters determination during contact with sea bed is determinate.

Existing ports are expected to service ships greater than those for which they were designed. The main restriction is the depth of port waters. The under keel clearance of a maneuvering ship determines ship movement safety. In Polish ports, maximal keel clearance is fixed as determined by port law, but it is possible to change the maximum ship draught depending on the present and predicted conditions regarding the water level. This paper presents an assessment of navigational risk as a combination of impact against the ground and the results of ship hull damage. The results of this research can be used to improve ship movement safety in order to optimize the exploitation of ports.

The existing ports are expected to handle ships larger than those for which they were designed. The main restriction in serving these ships is the depth of the port waters which directly affect the safety of a maneuvering ship. The under-keel clearance of a maneuvering ship in the port water area should be such that the ship moves safely. An undesired impact against the ground can damage the ship hull and block the port. Therefore, there is a need to develop a scientific method of specifying the safe under-keel clearance such that the safety of a ship will be maintained for different conditions. This article presents an assessment of navigational risk as a combination of the probability of ship impact against the ground and the resultant hull damage.
