Influence of Molecule Core Change on its Properties

Three quantities characterising a liquid crystal molecules were voted to study their physical properties. The (α∥-α⊥) of liquid crystals investigated is almost constant at all range of mesophase, but they have a different values for each molecule of liquid crystals. It prove the change of molecule core of liquid crystal influence on their polarizability tensor components. The subject of this work was a three liquid crystal of CB 7, PCH 7 and CCH 7. Molecule core change has clearly influenced on the values of (α∥-α⊥). Components of polarizability tensor of molecule α∥, α⊥ were calculated too.

The intrinsic polarizability tensor of non-polar anisometric molecules from a combination of measurements in a condensed phase

Rigid non-polar molecules whose shape is convex and can be approximated by an ellipsoid arc considered. Using the formalism of the "effective polarizability increments" previously developed, it is shown that, starting from combination of different experiments bearing on a solution of such molecules in an isotropic solvent, it is possible to determine the principal elements of the intrinsie (in vacuo) polarizability tensor of the molecule under study. These experiments are the dielectric increment of the solution, its Kerr constant, and the NMR splitting under an electric field of certain atoms of the solute.
