Nutritional and Functional Valorization Local Traditional Beverages in Cote D’Ivoire: Case of Sorghum Sweet Wort

In Côte d’Ivoire, the local traditional sorghum beer and sorghum sweet wort were very popular. This might rested on eventual therapeutic virtues attributed by consumers. To date no <i>in vivo</i> study focused on health benefits of sorghum sweet wort have been carried out. The aim of this research work was to study nutritional and functional potentialities of sorghum sweet wort. Thus, the macronutriments, micronutriments, phenolic compounds content, antioxidant activity, of sorghum sweet wort samples were analyzed. Also weigt gain and haematological parameters of mice after sorghum sweet wort samples were investigated. Results revelaed that the energy value of sorghum sweet wort from Koumassi (SSK) was higher with 36.84±0.2 Kcal/100 mL than this of Yopougon (SSY) with 27.96±0.02 Kcal/100 mL. Regarding phenolic compounds the values of total phenol and total flavonoids contents were highest in SSK sample with 1.239±0.09 mg/mL EAG and 1.810±0.09 mg/mL EQ respectively. In contrast, condensed tannins content was more important in SSY samples (0.271±0 mg/mL EC) than in SSK samples (0.125±0.01 mg/mL EC). Also, the antioxidant activity was most highed in SSY sample with 82.12±0.01 % than in SSK samples with 78.50±0.01%. The weight gain of mice was more with SSK sample than SSY samples with 82.22% and 40.42% respectively. On the hand other, the sorghum sweet wort samples consumption had not affected the relative organ weight and haematological parameters of mouses which were complies to standards. At nutritional point view, SSK sample seemed the most suitable in diets regime.

The findings of this study show that AI in education requires collaboration to ensure fairness, transparency, and alignment with ethical, cultural, and religious values, while maintaining the role of teachers through professional development.

Improved YOLOv10 for Visually Impaired: Balancing Model Accuracy and Efficiency in the Case of Public Transportation

Advancements in automation and artificial intelligence have significantly impacted accessibility for individuals with visual impairments, particularly in the realm of bus public transportation. Effective bus detection and bus point-of-view (POV) classification are crucial for enhancing the independence of visually impaired individuals. This study introduces the Improved-YOLOv10, a novel model designed to tackle challenges in bus identification and pov classification by integrating Coordinate Attention (CA) and Adaptive Kernel Convolution (AKConv) into the YOLOv10 framework. The Improved YOLOv10 advances the YOLOv10 architecture through the incorporation of CA, which enhances long-range dependency modeling and spatial awareness, and AKConv, which dynamically adjusts convolutional kernels for superior feature extraction. These enhancements aim to improve both detection accuracy and efficiency, essential for real-time applications in assistive technologies. Evaluation results demonstrate that the Improved-YOLOv10 offers significant improvements in detection performance, including better Accuracy, Precision and Recall compared to YOLOv10. The model also exhibits reduced computational complexity and storage requirements, highlighting its efficiency. While the classification results show some trade-offs, with slightly decreased overall F1 score, the complexity of Giga Floating Point Operations (GFLOPs), Parameters, and Weight/MB in the Improved-YOLOv10 remains advantageous for classification tasks. The model’s architectural improvements contribute to its robustness and efficiency, making it a suitable choice for real-time applications and assistive technologies.

Locke on the Molyneux Question: A Sensible Point View

Abstract The Molyneux question asks: would a blind person, who knows spheres and cubes only from touch, be able to recognize these shapes visually immediately upon becoming sighted, without touching them? Molyneux himself answered no. Locke accepted Molyneux’s negative answer. However, Locke’s answer appears inconsistent with the doctrine of common sensibles, according to which some ideas are given in more than one sense modality. Motivated by alleviating this tension, philosophers have put forth several interpretations of Locke’s views on shape perception. Here, I motivate a novel interpretation of Locke that can better resolve the tension.

Granule-State Intelligent Mathematics for Analyzing Unseen Risks

An unseen risk (UR) means that there is miserly information about that risk. Traditional mathematical paradigms for risk analysis, especially probability models based on the law of large numbers, cannot analyze any UR. In this paper, we for the first time propose granule-state intelligent mathematics (GSIM) based on granules and states as basic elements. "Concept", "Knowledge", and "Consciousness" are referred to as granules in thinking activities. A certain situation in which a granule may change is called the state of that granule. Traditional mathematics is a special case of GSIM. All operations and models in traditional mathematics are operations and models in GSIM. In addition, the basic operations in GSIM should at least include averaging, cracking, interaction, stacking, and fusion. This paper discusses the granule-state diffusion model that achieves "drawing inferences about other cases from one instance" through mutual reference and uses this model to analyze again a case of death risk in a virtual city at the beginning of the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in March 2020. According to the diffusion model of GSIM, the possibility of "Significant Increase" in infection rate is 0.354, which is much higher than the possibility of "Stable" which is 0.131. It is inferred that within the next 30 days, in this city with a population of 10 million, the death toll of COVID-19 will exceed 189170, the result of analysis in 2020. It has been proven that the infection rate in uncontrolled areas has significantly increased since March 2020. The paper's core contribution is not in the suggested model, but the view of point that it is times to study IM for supporting artificial intelligence (AI). GSIM opened a narrow seam to show a new world, where AI supported by IM might have consciousness and will be smarter.

The Eficiency in The Management of Facial Fracture Patients in Developing Country by Using OsiriX®, A Free 3D-Rendering Software

Background: Being a developing country with a GNI (Gross National Income) per capita of US$3,830, the cost for managing patients with facial fractures was often unaffordable. The use of a free 3D-rendering software presumably would decrease cost. With OsiriX, a free and open source 3D-rendering software, complex images manipulations and real-time 3D image visualization is easily accessible anytime and anywhere from the surgeon’s personal computer, making diagnosis and preoperative planning more convenient for the surgeons. Patients and methods: From December 2009 to January 2010, 14 patients with facial fracture were admitted to our unit. Seven of them underwent surgery. Preoperatively, diagnosis & surgery plan was developed using OsiriX. Results: By using OsiriX, more accurate diagnosis was made at a lower cost. Patients could save up to 48.1% from total diagnostic cost (19.2% from monthly income). OsiriX provided easier access to multidimensional navigation and visualization tools in personal computers, making easier planning possible for surgical steps and materials needed. Summary: OsiriX being free and open source is bene!cial from !nancial point of view, which is an important point for patients in a developing country. It is user friendly and ef!cient in developing treatment plan for facial fracture patients.

Likeness and Icon: The Imperial Couples in Hagia Sophia

The two imperial panels in the south gallery of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople are exceptional as they are the only large-scale 11th- and 12th-century images of rulers preserved in the capital city. One depicts Zoe and Constantine Monomachos, the other John Komneos and Irene. The present article reviews the mosaics mainly from the point of view of portraiture: how does the visual portrayal of imperial figures comply with the contemporary verbal description, foremost Michael Psellos’ descriptions of Zoe and her three husbands, and Anna Komnene’s portrayals in the Alexias. How did artists distinguish between imperial likeness and holy icon when portraying both within the same space? Another problem addressed is the refashioning of the Zoe panel.

Thirty-four Years after "Leda Christiana". Misery and Splendour of the First Century of Coptic Art History

The course of the research of Egyptian Late Antique art was influenced for more than seven decades in a most unfortunate manner by the erroneous intrepretation of the archaeological context of the foruth century AD mythological reliefs discovered in the 1890s by Édouard Naville at Heracleopolis Magna (modern Ahnas). The misinterpretation of the find circumstances led to the postulate of a Christianisation of pagan themes in Coptic art and of their employment in the decoration of Christian churches. The actual architectural and iconographic context of mythological reliefs from Ahnas and other Egyptian Late Antique sites was identified by Hjalmar Torp in a 1969 paper in which he suggested that the mythological reliefs, as well as the contemporary carvings with Christian themes, came from pagan and Christian funerary edifices. Torp also pointed out the impact of Roman funerary iconography on the decoration of third-fifth century Egyptian tomb chapels. The present study discusses the trends prevailing in the research of Egyptian Late Antique art before and after 1969 from the special point of view of Torp’s seminal work. Particular attention is paid to the interconnected issues of chronology, social-cultural context, and quality stratification. The analysis of individual groups of sculptures, paintings, and luxury textiles presents new data for the assessment of the international context of Egyptian art in the Late Antique and early Byzantine periods as well as for the investigation of the transfiguration of Egyptian culture in Late Antiquity.

Adolescence in the life course spotlight.

The articles in this special issue were inspired by the late John Schulenberg's long view of adolescence, a perspective that emphasizes the integral role that the teens and twenties play in the life course. Using multiple longitudinal data sources to explore myriad developmental topics, the authors delve into the ways that adolescence connects, disrupts, and stands out from childhood and adulthood as a means of integrating rather than isolating these developmentally dense years. In this commentary, I highlight what this collection of studies does to drive home some basic tenets of the long view of adolescence and point out some other tenets that should garner more attention moving forward. Specifically, I discuss the need to connect multiple periods of life before and after adolescence, voice some caution about not letting the long view of adolescence keep us from continuing our in-depth exploration of adolescence itself, and encourage more macro-level conceptualizations of context to go with more common micro- and meso-level connections in order to better interrogate inequality. John's career has taught us a great deal about how to think about adolescent development, and just because he left us too soon does not mean that we will stop learning.

Suitability of aggregate recycled from concrete pavements for layers made of unbound and cement bound mixtures

The paper presents research on the possibility of utilizing materials recycled from concrete pavements through crushing them in crushers and re-incorporating into pavement courses. From the economic and technical points of view crushed concrete waste can be an alternative source of aggregates, replacing natural aggregates. Crushed concrete was tested with regard to the current requirements which aggregates applied in layers made of unbound and cement bound mixtures must meet. Concrete rubble is shown to be suitable a material for re-incorporation into pavement road surface courses and limitations on the use of such materials are indicated.

How We See Changes How We Feel: Investigating the Effect of Visual Point-of-View on Decision-Making in VR Environments

Virtual reality (VR) can immerse users into engaging experiences, affording opportunities to study behaviour in simulated contexts such as decision-making processes. However, methodological research into designing meaningful VR experiences - experiences that promote appreciation and deeper understanding of a work - is still underdeveloped. In this two-part study, we investigate how visual point-of-view (POV) in VR impacts feelings of meaningfulness and empathy as well as objective decision-making processes. Our study revolves around a VR application that situates users in moral dilemmas from three different POVs. Data from the choices made is augmented with self-reported subjective data. We find that, from different POVs, users' subjective feelings do show change; users show greater empathy for virtual agents and have an increasingly meaningful experience from a first-person perspective, even if this is not always reflected in changes in their decisions. Finally, we discuss the implications of our findings in the context of VR application design.

Evolution of CFD numerical methods and physical models towards a full discrete approach

The physical models and numerical methodologies of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are historically linked to the concept of continuous medium and to analysis where continuity, derivation and integration are defined as limits at a point. The first consequence is the need to extend these notions in a multidimensional space by establishing a global inertial frame of reference in order to project the variables there. In recent decades, the emergence of methodologies based on differential geometry or exterior calculus has changed the point of view by starting with the creation of entangled polygonal and polyhedral structures where the variables are located. Mimetic methods and Discrete Exterior Calculus, notably, have intrinsic conservation properties which make them very efficient for solving fluid dynamics equations. The natural extension of this discrete vision relates to the derivation of the equations of mechanics by abandoning the notion of continuous medium. The Galilean frame of reference is replaced by a local frame of reference composed of an oriented segment where the acceleration of the material medium or of a particle is defined. The extension to a higher dimensional space is carried from cause to effect, from one local structure to another. The conservation of acceleration over a segment and the Helmholtz–Hodge decomposition are two essential principles adopted for the derivation of a discrete law of motion. As the fields covered by CFD are increasingly broad, it is natural to return to the deeper meaning of physical phenomena to try a new research or new path which would preserve the properties of current formulations.

The Impact of Socialization on Political Participation in Jordan (1989-2015)

Objectives: The study aimed to show the reality and influence of socialization on political participation from the point view of Political party leaders in Jordan. Methods: The study in order to measuring the level of influence of socialization and find the degree of participation, used the descriptive analytical method to analyze the data collected through a refereed scientific questionnaire targeted the active party leaders and party figures in Jordan, consisting of (297) selected as a random sample Results: The study findings were, a medium degree of approval among party leaders and figures on the reality of socialization, a medium degree of approval on the reality of political participation and the presence of a statistically significant effect of socialization on political participation explains a percentage of (57.6%). And from the variation in political participation indicates that the extent of the clear impact of socialization on the process of political participation in Jordan. Conclusions: The study concluded that there is a need to work to raise the level of political awareness among young people in society, and the political parties must work on formulating and preparing integrated programs with clear goals and vision in order to attract the target group and participation within it in political future work in Jordan. That can be achieved only by moving to actual work, and activating the role of various governmental institutions, agencies and community organizations in spreading awareness of political culture among young people through educational, media, cultural and partisan institutions.

Quercetin Modulates the Signalling Pathways and Therapeutic Targets in the Pathophysiology of Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review

Introduction: Lung cancer is a progressive disease with the highest incidence and mortality rate of other cancer types. Besides, the low efficacy of current treatments used against lung cancer urges the need for novel alternative treatments. Methods: Accordingly, quercetin (a flavonoid) has shown a mechanistic-based potential in preventing the progression of lung cancer. So, this study was designed to systematically review quercetin's therapeutic effects on the improvement of lung cancer. For this purpose, PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane library databases were searched based on the keywords lung cancer, lung carcinoma, lung adenocarcinoma and quercetin from 1997 to November 2021. We removed Non-English, repetitive, review and irrelevant articles according to title and abstract in the first step. After that, full-text screening was used to include the final studies. Results: From a total of 4341 results, finally 36 articles were included in the study, which the whole confirmed the therapeutic effects of quercetin on the improvement of lung malignancy. They also proved that quercetin has a synergic effect with chemical drugs used for lung cancer treatment. From the mechanical point of view, quercetin has employed several signaling mediators for lung therapeutic applications. This systematic review summarizes the modulatory effects of quercetin on several dysregulated pathways, including growth/proliferation, viability, migration/invasion, oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis. Conclusion: Prevailing studies show that quercetin interferes with molecular targets and mechanisms underlying lung cancer to prevent the development of such diseases in clinical applications.

Pulses as Sustainable Protein Sources: Benefits, Drawbacks, and Gaps

Abstract: Pulses have redeemed the interest in terms of a sustainable and healthy diet due to their high protein content. Furthermore, the vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals they contain also make them more valuable nutritionally. A sustainable diet should improve public health and food security and has a low environmental footprint. Pulses have been considered one of the emerging plant food proteins. Although they have beneficial components such as vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and antioxidants, many drawbacks limit their use to consumers and the food industry. One of the drawbacks is their incomplete proteins due to the lack of sulfur-containing amino acids in their protein profile. Furthermore, the protein digestibility of pulses is low due to the antinutritional compounds they contain. The other drawback of pulses is their beany flavor and bitter taste that limits the acceptability of consumers. From the consumer's point of view, the other disadvantage is the laborious and timeconsuming preparation period. : This article provides a concise overview of the current state of knowledge on pulses as sustainable protein sources, underlining the gaps that limit their extensive application in the food industry. Based on the available scientific facts on pulses, finding an efficient method for removing beany flavor and overall sensorial acceptability and antinutritional factors, thus increasing protein digestibility is crucial. The most promising option to increase pulse protein digestibility seems to combine conventional and novel technologies that can modulate digestibility by different mechanisms, such as the removal of antinutritional factors, protein denaturation, and the design of the food matrix.

Mechanism-Guided Rational Design of Anode Coatings for Aqueous Zinc Ion Batteries.

Aqueous zinc ion batteries (ZIBs) hold promises as a safer, more cost-effective, and environmental-friendly alternative to lithium-ion batteries, especially for stationary energy storage. Recent advancements in protective anode coatings, which fine-tune zinc ion solvation structure, have yielded significant improvements in the aqueous ZIB performance, addressing dendrite formation and side reactions, thereby prolonging cycle lifetime. Understanding the underlying mechanisms of these coatings as ions sieves is crucial for further optimization and achieving long-term stability, which is a key requirement for practical applications. This concept explores recent developments in ZIB anode coatings from the view of molecular mechanisms and points out future research directions.

From point view of earthquake engineering, the greater the mass of a structure, the greater the shear force imposed on the structures, and vice versa. To obtain a lightweight strong structure, lightweight concrete can be used instead of conventional concrete. Lightweight concrete can be made from various types of coarse aggregates, such as pumice. Smooth cracks occurred on the concrete surface due to hydration can be prevented by reducing cement content. Some amount of the cement can be replaced with natural pozzolanic which relatively easy and low-cost to produce. This research is to examine rheological and Mechanical properties of semi light-weight concrete due to partial replacement of cement content with Rice husk ash. The rice husk ash was prepared by burning Rice Husks in a furnace at a temperature of 700°±50°C for 4-hours. The chemical properties of both the Rice Husk Ash and Pumice was also tested in laboratory. In this study, the Compressive strength f’c and the Modulus of Elasticity of concrete Ec were tested with 15x30cm cylindrical specimens prepared according to SNI-1974-2011 tested at age of 28, 56 and 90 days. Based on a series of tests conducted, it was found that the Rheological properties of Semi-Light Pumice Concrete was greatly governed by the Rice Husk Ash. Furthermore, Partial cement replacement with Rice Husk Ash was potentially to be used with an optimum of 5% cement content. The compressive strength and Modulus of Elasticity of Semi Lightweight concrete are influenced by the age of the concrete testing.
