Emotional Well-Being and Coping: A Self-Determination Theory and Positive Psychology Perspective

The present study investigates the interplay between emotional well-being, coping strategies, and self-determination theory (SDT) within the sociocultural context of Romania. Grounded in SDT and positive psychology, this research examines how intrinsic and extrinsic aspirations, coping mechanisms, and socioeconomic factors influence emotional well-being among Romanian college students. Results indicate that emotion-focused coping predicts emotional well-being, but this relationship is moderated by income, with lower-income students deriving less benefit from this coping style. Problem-focused coping is significantly predicted by positive emotions, while avoidant coping is associated with emotional ill-being. Although social support ranks lower among coping strategies, it remains a relevant resource for emotional well-being. These findings contribute to the cross-cultural understanding of SDT and coping, highlighting the role of contextual factors in shaping well-being.

Development of the scale on the effects of sleep disorder on stress: validity and reliability study

BackgroundThe relationship between sleep disorders and cognitive stress in clinical psychology, especially from the perspective of Beck's Cognitive Theory, holds critical importance. The current measurement tools do not adequately assess the cognitive components of sleep-related stress (e.g., automatic thoughts, cognitive distortions), highlighting the need for a new instrument in this field. Specifically, quantitatively evaluating the effects of insomnia on an individual's perception of the future, self-esteem, and worldview is fundamental for clinical interventions.PurposeThis study aims to develop a valid and reliable scale capable of measuring stress caused by sleep disorders with a multidisciplinary approach, based on Beck's Cognitive Theory's "cognitive triad" (perception of future/self/world) and the concept of cognitive distortion.MethodThe study was conducted with 637 participants who had a Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score of ≥ 5. Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Perceived Stress Scale, and a draft scale. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were used to assess construct validity, while Cronbach's Alpha (α) and McDonald Omega (ω) were used for reliability analysis.ResultsThe results of the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses revealed that the scale consists of two main dimensions: (1) Cognitive Distortions dimension (10 items, α = 0.952), which measures automatic negative thoughts such as "When I feel inadequate in any aspect due to sleep disorder" experienced by participants during sleep deprivation. (2) Cognitive Triad dimension (8 items, α = 0.925), which reflects disruptions in perceptions of the future, self, and the world (environment), with statements like "On days when I experience sleep disorders, I feel like my appearance looks bad." The overall reliability coefficients of the scale were found to be α = 0.964 and ω = 0.961. The developed scale was found to have a positive correlation with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Perceived Stress Scale, and VAS.ConclusıonsThe developed scale is the first tool to clinically and meaningfully reveal the cognitive stress mechanisms caused by sleep disorders. Its structure, directly aligning with the core components of Beck's Cognitive Theory, increases the potential for its use in cognitive-behavioral therapy protocols. Furthermore, the methodological framework it provides for cross-cultural validity studies lays the groundwork for comparative research on a global scale.

The interplay of incivility, peer support, and psychological capital in higher education

In the context of increasing incivility in university environments, especially in Asian countries such as Vietnam, this study was conducted to clarify the mechanism of incivility’s influence on students’ academic performance from the conservation of resources theory perspective. The study constructed a mediation-moderation model in which psychological distress and perceived peer support played mediating roles, and psychological capital was a moderator. Data were collected from 266 university students in Vietnam and analyzed using the PLS-SEM method. The results showed that incivility had a direct negative impact on academic performance, while this impact increased through psychological distress and was mitigated by the presence of perceived peer support. In addition, psychological capital played a moderating role in the relationship between incivility and psychological distress, suggesting a protective role for individual psychology in stressful situations. However, psychological capital did not moderate the relationship between perceived peer support and academic performance. The study contributes to COR theory in the context of higher education and suggests interventions to mitigate the negative effects of incivility and enhance student learning outcomes.

The institutionalisation of sustainability information assurance: preparing for upcoming obligations in the EU

PurposeWith the enforcement of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), many companies within the European Union will face assurance obligations for sustainability information, which will lead to a significant increase in demand for sustainability information assurance. This study aims to identify the institutionalisation of sustainability information assurance from the perspective of assurance providers.Design/methodology/approachThe study draws evidence from semi-structured interviews with 23 people from sustainability information assurance providers involved in the assurance of sustainability information based in Austria and Germany. The data analysis was carried out using a thematic analysis approach.FindingsThe findings indicate that the new obligations exert significant institutional pressure for sustainability assurance providers, necessitating action or institutional work in various areas such as establishing required competencies and ensuring adequate personnel resources. However, the findings also show that assurance providers have not yet taken as active a role in the institutionalisation process as the institutional theory perspective or the high regulatory pressure would suggest and that there is still room for institutional work.Originality/valueStudies on the institutionalisation of the assurance of sustainability information have thus far focused on voluntary settings. In contrast, given the CSRD, this study focuses on the institutionalisation of the assurance of sustainability information in a mandatory environment, which has implications for the legitimation or institutional work of the assurance providers.

The Relationship of Energy Consumption and Economic Growth under Structural Break: An Application on Türkiye

It is known that oil crises caused great economic distress in the world after the 1970s. These crises were caused by problems related to energy supply and created a more debatable environment for the relationship between economy and energy. During this period, discussions on the concepts of energy and economic growth increased among economists. This study aims to contribute to the discussions in the EC (energy consumption) and EG (economic growth) literature from the perspective of biophysical theory. In this study, the effect of EC on EG and the effect of EG on EC for the period 1970-2019 in Türkiye were examined using Zivot-Andrews unit root, Gregory-Hansen cointegration, DOLS, FMOLS, CCR and Granger causality analysis methods. With these methods, the complex structure of long-term relationships and causality relationships were examined in depth by taking into account structural breaks in Türkiye. The findings revealed that there was a cointegration relationship between EC and EG. The structural break year was found to be 2010 and it was seen that the effects of the global economic crisis continued. When the long-term coefficients are examined, a 1% increase in EC increases EG by 0.37%, 0.72% and 0.69%, respectively, according to DOLS, FMOLS and CCR estimators. In addition, EC is the Granger cause of EG. It was seen that the growth hypothesis is valid in Türkiye. The establishment of policies that support the increase in energy investments in Türkiye has the potential to contribute to a stable economic growth.

It is known that this article was written with the aim of analyzing the rhythmic nature of the written monuments and heroic poems of the Blue Turkic era from the scientific and cognitive perspective of literary theory, and identifying whether the original structure and artistic features of the samples of modern Kazakh poetry are found in those written monuments, aren't they? Based on this objective, the written monuments of the Blue Turkic era are studied in terms of the rhythm and rhythmic laws inherent in the art of poetry, and an analysis is made of the formation of an understanding of the various specific features of modern Kazakh poetry. Based on exact examples of the prerequisites of rhythm and rhythmics that formed the basis for the formation of Kazakh oral literature and written poetry, this scientific work, which is based on the basic principles of poetry theory, considers textual style of the inscriptions of the Blue Turkic era, and makes scientific conclusions about its influence on subsequent oral literature and written literature. It should be noted that the use of the comparative research method was of great importance in this regard. As a result of this scientific work, it can be concluded that people first widely used the sound of black poetry to express their initial thoughts and feelings, and then gradually formed a poem based on the need for harmony between life and spiritual needs and the natural world, which was a work of rhythmic art in the form of zhyrau. Hence, in the process of applying the results of this scientific work, it is established that the Blue Turkic inscriptions are more memorable of black poetry, and the rhythmic structure and harmony of zhyrau poetry and modern Kazakh poetry are more outstanding. Based on this conclusion, it is not difficult to understand what kind of artistic phenomenon poetry is, only when we consider Kazakh poetry in two large groups, namely, melodious poetry and talented poetry, due to the difference in an artistic level.

Development Dilemma and Improvement Path of Elderly Education Governance under the Perspective of Multi-Source Stream Theory

With the aging of the population, the importance of elderly education in improving the quality of life of the elderly has become increasingly prominent. This paper aims to explore the development dilemma of elderly education governance and its optimization path, in order to provide a reference for policy making. The study adopts a multi-source theoretical framework to analyze the challenges faced by elderly education governance. The results show that elderly education has problems such as uneven resource allocation, disconnection between educational content and demand, and lack of professional talents; unclear responsibilities of various departments and insufficient attention from local governments; policy implementation deviations, complex management systems and mechanisms, and insufficient financial investment. In response to these problems, this paper proposes optimization paths from the three perspectives, so as to promote the improvement of elderly education governance, promote the healthy development of elderly education, and help build an elderly-friendly society.

Etiological Mechanism of Decreased Ovarian Reserve Function: An Integrated Perspective of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Theories

Diminished ovarian reserve (DOR), as an early pathological stage of premature ovarian failure, is characterized by a synergistic effect of physiological aging factors and pathological multifactors in modern medicine. The latter includes core elements such as genetic susceptibility, iatrogenic injury, immune regulation abnormalities, environmental exposure, and psychological stress. The theory of traditional Chinese medicine explains that the essence of its pathogenesis is “deficiency of kidney essence and deficiency of heaven and earth” - these two constitute the fundamental pathological basis for the occurrence and development of diseases, and run through the entire course of the disease; Among them, liver depression and qi stagnation are the key triggering factors, leading to the obstruction of qi and blood circulation and the formation of qi stagnation and blood stasis; The deficiency of qi and blood biochemistry caused by spleen deficiency and loss of luck further exacerbates the deficiency of the source; And blood stasis obstructing collaterals is not only a core pathological product, but also a key link in the deterioration of the disease. The four types of pathological elements mentioned above together constitute a dynamic pathological circulation system of “deficiency of the essence and excess of the substance”, ultimately disrupting the functional homeostasis of the “kidney-Tiangui-Chongren-uterus”. This multidimensional etiology and pathogenesis analysis provides a systematic theoretical basis for the integrated clinical diagnosis and treatment of DOR with traditional Chinese and Western medicine.
