Organizational Capital, Skills and Productivity

This paper studies how industries' investment in organizational capital (OC) and workforce skills relate to productivity, building on OECD estimates of OC, output data from the OECD Structural Analysis (STAN) database, and skill indicators from the OECD Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). The paper finds that, at the industry level, workers' numeracy and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) skills correlate positively with productivity, and that the positive correlation of STEM skills with productivity is generally larger for OC workers. Moreover, dispersion in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills harms industry performance. In fact, a gap between the ICT skills of OC and non‐OC workers seems to trigger a “lost in translation” type of mechanism, whereby communication and information flows become less fluid and impinge upon the economic performance of sectors, correlating negatively with productivity.

STRATEGY FORMULATION ANALYSIS WITH COMPANY IMPLEMENTATION IN DEALING WITH THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC SITUATION

The Covid-19 virus which has swept the world and become a global pademic has changed the world order. The reduced social economic activities of the community to reduce social interaction that can accelerate the spread of the virus, resulting in a decline in the performance of economic sectors. Many industries experience a decline in revenue and can result in further cessation of company operations. The Covid-19 pandemic to date has not been able to predict how long it will end which causes uncertainty about the future. In order for a company to continue to exist and grow sustainably, it is very important to formulate a future strategy that is full of uncertainty. Pizza Hut is one of the American restaurants and international franchises founded in 1958 in Wichita, Kansas by Dan and Frank Carney. The company is known for its Italian-American food, including pizza and pasta as well as side dishes and desserts. This research aims to implement marketing strategies to achieve excellence in the midst of this pandemic. The results showed that the marketing strategy used by Pizza Hut can increase sales volume by staying, even if selling on the side of the road. As well as the presence of information technology provides many benefits for Pizza HUT, such as being able to alleviate complex business activities as well as produce information that is trustworthy, relevant on time, complete, understandable and tested in the framework of planning, controlling and making management decisions. From a variety of alternative strategy choices, in order to deal with the difficult conditions at the moment, the initial theory regarding investment management can be considered in the form of a business diversification strategy. So that the risks experienced can be spread in various fields of business / industry not only in one business, as the theory of the father of investment management Herry Markowizt "don't put all your eggs in one basket".

The Performance of Economic Sectors and Their Growing Non-Performing Assets in India

The Indian banking system of an economy is of foremost importance for its financial and economicdevelopment. It forms the core of the financial sector and plays a critical role in transmitting monetary policyimpulses to the entire economic system. Hence the stability of banking sector is of paramount importance for thedevelopment of an economy. Non-performing assets(NPAs) or loans are growing issue in commercial banks especially in Indian Public sector banks which are facing huge losses due to accumulated NPAs over the past twenty year. As 90% of the total NPA isheld with public sector banks, it is essential to focus on the procedure of giving loans by them and proper verification of collateral and other reliability to repay the loan. The extensive lending by the banks to companies during the boom phase of the economy(e.g.2008-09) without proper documentation (relaxed) leads to such rising NPA levels. This paper focuses onthe accumulation of NPAs and its implications on sectors’economic performance. It also specifically emphasizes the efficacyof SARFAESI Act, DRT tribunals, IBC (Insolvency Bankruptcy Code 2016) as mitigation of NPAs. The problem of double trust dilemma in the context of NPAs has been introduced is a case of investor and innovator.

The use of EIO-LCA in assessing National Environmental Policies under the Kyoto Protocol: the Portuguese economy

The adoption of the Kyoto Protocol principles and targets at a EU level, is contributing to develop new environmental policy goals at European and national levels. Although in each nation, these goals are to be monitored at a macroeconomic level, reliable sector-based indicators are crucial to promote effective environmental policies. This paper discusses the use of an Economic Input-Output Life Cycle Assessment (EIO-LCA) framework, which makes use of official data, produced under the National Accounts Matrix including Environmental Accounts (NAMEA), to enable the analysis of the environmental performance of economic sectors. Methodological extensions to this framework, which enable the environmental assessment of processes and products, are also discussed. A Portuguese case study illustrates the use of the methodology for identifying diverse environmental performances across the main economic sectors, and this is relevant for defining new policies oriented towards enabling Portugal to comply with its commitments under the Kyoto Protocol.
