Assessment of the State of Knowledge of Chemical Safety and GHS Labelling System in Zahedan Industries (Iran)

Background: The present study aims to evaluate the level of awareness of workers with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) among workers exposed to chemicals. Methods: The current study was cross-sectional which was conducted on 80 industrial workers in Zahedan (Iran). Therefore, the Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ) questionnaire according to the GHS international system was used to evaluate general knowledge and the labelling status of chemical substances by designing integrated visual and theoretical questions. Descriptive statistics, and correlation coefficients were also used in data analysis. Results: The highest awareness of workers was related to explosive (100%) and flammable (96.3%) pictograms. About 72.5% of the participants claimed to have encountered unlabeled chemical packages in their work experience. 86.3% of the workers considered the label on the package "useful to prevent accidents"; about 32% reported that they had never seen "health hazard" pictogram; and about 98.8%, received the necessary training about the dangers of chemicals. Also, the results showed that there was no significant correlation between the age and work history of the participants and their level of awareness (P>0.05), but a statistically significant correlation was observed between education and gender and the level of awareness (P<0.05). Conclusions: Analysis of the current state of chemical safety labeling showed that pictograms such as GHS "health hazard" are not familiar to workers. Despite the high level of education, workers could analyse English labels at an average level. Moreover, increasing work records did not have much effect on improving people's awareness.

Attitudes to the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Language Learning

Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the fastest growing technologies today. Its extraordinary scope and capabilities have led people of all ages and abilities to employ it in many of their activities. Language learning is a lifetime experience that could benefit from the use of AI and thus it is worth exploring people's awareness of this technology and its implications. Thus, this study aims to explore attitudes to AI chatbots and its usability in language learning in Saudi Arabia. The results showed favorable attitudes among most participants towards using AI chatbots in language learning. ChatGPT, Google Translate, and Duolingo are the AI chatbots best recognized and viewed as the most usable among the participants. AI is heavily incorporated in language learning technologies (LLTs) and chatbots. It seems that the merits of employing AI chatbots in language learning are greater than the drawbacks. Further research is needed to explore the challenges, potential threats and future expectations related to the application of AI chatbots in language learning.

“They Treat You Like Some Alien”

In moving towards liberatory healing for the trans-masculine community, it is imperative to understand their healthcare obstacles and the impact they have on the relationship between trans patients and the medical systems with which they interact. While there is little research on Indian transgender healthcare in general, scholarship about trans masculine experiences in routine, non-gender related healthcare is virtually non-existent. This study begins to fill this research gap with the central objective of understanding trans men and trans masculine people’s experiences in medicine and the barriers they face to general healthcare access in urban and suburban Mumbai. Through in-depth interviews with eight trans-masculine people and three healthcare providers in the Mumbai area, data showed that trans-masculine healthcare barriers presented much more in the public sector than the private. Several key health risks and barriers to care were found. Added health risks for trans-masculine participants include side effects of transition care, mental health challenges arising from stigma and dysphoria, and physical health demotivation and inaccessibility. Barriers to care include ignorance, (double) stigma, the risks of disclosure, and unaffordability. Participants discuss the individual and communal ways they navigate these spaces and propose solutions such as sensitization, more respectful care, and more awareness of trans people.

Awareness, Treatment and Control of Hypertension in Nigeria: A Systematic Review

Background: Inadequate hypertension diagnosis and management in Nigeria is a key contributor to cardiovascular morbidity and death. To direct appropriate preventive actions in Nigeria, a better knowledge of the existing burden of hypertension is required, including awareness, treatment, and management. To evaluate the trends of hypertension throughout the nation's various states, a systematic review was done. Methods: A thorough literature search was conducted using PRISMA guidelines to find empirical research on hypertension and obesity in adult Nigerians. In order to find original publications about the recognition, management, and control of hypertension in Nigeria published between 2002 and 2022, PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL were used as the major databases. Africa, Nigeria, awareness, therapy, control, and hypertension were the main search phrases. To provide for more research, the bibliographies mentioned in the indicated papers were investigated. The articles' full texts were retrieved from a variety of online resources. This data was gathered using a data extraction form. Results: The requirements for inclusion were satisfied by 48 studies from each of the nation's six geopolitical regions. Regional differences in awareness, treatment, and control were significant. The awareness of rural people was lower than that of urban people. The South-South region has the greatest prevalence of hypertension. The lowest rates of hypertension management were seen in the South-West. Even among respondents who were aware of their condition and those who were receiving treatment, there was typically inadequate control of hypertension across the nation. There were no estimates specific for either gender. Conclusion: Hypertension is only marginally understood, treated, and controlled. For hypertension patients in Nigeria to experience improved outcomes, tailored studies are needed to identify the precise causes of these low levels.

Adolescent mental health literacy: An effort to increase the awareness and support among parents

Mental health understanding among generation Z is quite good. However, this is not followed by their parents. Due to the lack of mental health awareness, parents of generation Z cannot be a support system for their children. The high suicide rate among adolescents that has caused Indonesia to have a suicide emergency is an indication of this issue. Therefore, we feel responsible for providing a solution for it. We started it with the environment closest to us. Hence, we arranged program with the purpose to build awareness of the young people’s parents about mental health issue. The program aimed to increase awareness and support among ‘Aisyiyah Tamantirto Utara Branch Leadership members regarding adolescent mental health, enhancing their ability to identify symptoms, respond appropriately, and provide support. Sosialisasi Program Cinta Bangga Paham Rupiah Dalam Membangun Kesadaran Dan Pemahaman Masyarakat Di Bank Indonesia

This research is in the area of public communication discipline, particularly in the study of the effectiveness of socialisation of national financial education programmes. The focus of the research is to analyse the effectiveness of the socialisation of the Cinta Bangga Paham Rupiah (CBPR) Program implemented by Bank Indonesia in building public awareness and understanding of the importance of the rupiah as a legal tender and symbol of national identity. The purpose of this research is to identify the socialisation strategy used, evaluate its effectiveness, and analyse the obstacles and solutions in its implementation. The research used a descriptive qualitative method, with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, field observations, and review of programme documentation. The findings show that CBPR socialisation is effective in increasing people's practical awareness in treating rupiah money correctly, but has not fully succeeded in building a deep understanding of macroeconomics, especially related to the role of rupiah in national economic stability. The main contribution of this research is to develop a socialisation approach model based on demographic segmentation and multimodal communication strategies that are adaptive to local characteristics. The results of this study confirm the importance of innovation in financial public education to strengthen national identity and the country's economic stability through increasing public literacy on the function and meaning of the rupiah currency.

Telemedicine Booths for Screening Cardiovascular Risk Factors: Prospective Multicenter Study.

Cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension often remain undetected and untreated. This was particularly problematic during the COVID-19 pandemic when there were fewer in-person medical consultations. This study aimed to determine whether health screening using a telemedicine booth would have an impact on people's medical care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Health screening was run using a telemedicine booth (the consult station) that was placed in three different vaccination centers in northern France between July 2021 and September 2021. Participants followed a series of instructions to obtain various measures, including their blood pressure, BMI, and heart rate. If any measures were found to be outside of the normal range, participants were advised to consult a doctor. After 3 months, the participants with abnormal readings were contacted by telephone and were asked a series of standardized questions. The primary outcome was the percentage of respondents who reported that they had consulted a doctor since the health check. Approximately 6000 people attended the 3 vaccination centers over the study period. Of these, around 2500 used the consult station. A total of 1333 participants (53.3%) were found to have abnormal readings, which mostly concerned their blood pressure, heart rate, or BMI. There were 638 participants who responded to the follow-up call, and 234 of these (37%) reported that they had consulted a doctor since the health check. However, 158 of the 638 respondents (24.8%) reported that they would have consulted a doctor even without the screening. We succeeded in screening large numbers of people for cardiovascular risk factors during the COVID-19 pandemic by using a telemedicine booth. Although relatively few follow-up call respondents reported that they went on to consult a physician, the screening would nevertheless have raised people's awareness of their cardiovascular risk factors.

Introspective access to value-based multi-attribute choice processes

People routinely choose between options varying on multiple attributes – homes to rent, movies to watch, and so on. Here, we test how much awareness people have of the mental processes underlying these choices. We develop a method to quantify awareness of value-based multi-attribute choice processes that accounts for diverse choice strategies. Across five studies, participants make choices and then report how they believe they made them. We use computational modeling to identify the process revealed in their choices, and compare it to their self-reports to quantify individuals’ accuracy about their choice process. While we observe substantial variation in accuracy, participants are often highly accurate about their choice process – more accurate than predicted by a sample of decision scientists – and more accurate than informed third-party observers, suggesting evidence for introspection. These results challenge notions that we are strangers to ourselves and instead suggest that people often know how they made value-based choices.

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Awareness and Demand Creation: Overlooked Populations and Opportunities to Move Forward.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention has been available since 2012, but uptake remains disappointing and inequitable. Furthermore, there is little evidence on the effectiveness of interventions to increase PrEP demand among priority populations in the United States. The objectives of this article were to describe how consumer perceptions of PrEP vary by distinct population groups and identify gaps in PrEP awareness, knowledge, and interest. We synthesized evidence-based interventions to improve demand for PrEP in populations heavily burdened by HIV. The focus centered on consumer factors, how people's awareness of PrEP, especially people who are likely to benefit, influences PrEP uptake. Awareness and equity in PrEP use among vulnerable populations in the United States remain low because of both demand-side obstacles and accessibility challenges. Designing an effective package of interventions to increase demand for PrEP involves integrating strategies that address awareness, knowledge, interest/motivation, and access. The underutilization of PrEP among the 1.2 million individuals who could benefit from it highlights the need for effective demand creation to reduce disparities. To effectively increase awareness of the benefits of PrEP requires consideration of the characteristics of the target population and the structural inequalities that contribute to PrEP-related disparities. Demand creation activities can increase awareness, correct misconceptions, provide knowledge, and help people decide whether PrEP is a good fit for them. The utilization of implementation science frameworks is essential to address demand generation and supply-side barriers to PrEP use.

Application of the extended theory of planned behavior to predict green product purchase behavior

The importance of buying green products has been well publicized on social media. However, sales of green products remain considerably low. Marketers and academics aim to investigate the factors that influence green purchasing behavior. The aim of this paper is to examining the effect of attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, on green purchase intention. Because there is attitude-behavior gap, this study also provides a meaningful contribution by extending the Theory of Planned Behavior by incorporating social media marketing, environmental knowledge, and green product purchase behavior. A quantitative approach was used to collect data through online questionnaires. A total of 249 samples were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) with Smart PLS. The results align with existing literature, reinforcing the importance of attitude, perceived behavioral control, social media marketing, and environmental knowledge in shaping consumers’ intentions and behaviors. However, subjective norm does not significantly perform as a direct antecedent on purchase intention. Social pressure is not enough to drive consumer purchasing environmentally products. These results can assist business owners and social media marketers to focus on promoting green image and continuously produce educative content which could enhance people awareness on the importance of green product consumption.

Open experiment: QuEChERS combined with fluorescence derivatization for the detection of atrazine and its effect on enzyme activity

Atrazine is a triazine pesticide that interferes with normal physiological activities, induces oxidative stress, and is significantly toxic to plants. Therefore, the ability to quantitatively detect atrazine and study the mechanisms responsible for its toxicity are crucial for ensuring food safety and maintaining plant growth. Herein, a method was developed by QuEChERS combined with fluorescence derivatization to rapidly, sensitively, and quantitatively detect atrazine in real samples. This approach offers excellent selectivity and high sensitivity, and is simple to operate. In addition, we also investigated the effect of atrazine on catalase activity through enzyme-activity assays and molecular-docking studies to explore the mechanism responsible for the toxicity of atrazine on the molecular level. This experiment involves knowledge related to sample pretreatment, spectroscopy, and molecular docking, while the instruments used are widely available in colleges and universities and are very suitable for teaching open experiments. This experiment aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of experimental operations integrated with theory, as well as applied research aimed at helping students understand the use of separation materials, the selection and application of fluorescent derivatization reagents, the principles of analytical instruments, the use of enzymes, and the principles of molecular docking. This experiment is expected to enhance students' awareness of people's livelihoods, analytical chemistry concepts, and operational standards, which will guide the development of their scientific research thinking and improve their abilities to solve real-world problems.
