Three New Unusual Beetle-Associated Species of the Genus Gaeolaelaps (Acari, Mesostigmata, Laelapidae) from Ukraine

(Coleoptera, Carabidae) from Crimea;G.sevastianoviTrach, sp. n. associated withHeterocerussp. (Coleoptera, Heteroceridae) from Lugansk Region. These three species are characterised by a number of unique characters: very short peritremes and peritrematal shields, elongated dorsal shield, abnormal for Laelapidae leg chaetotaxy. A key to the species ofGaeolaelapswith extra short peritremes is presented.

Updating Biomedical Studies by Recruiting More Mathematics or Physicsmajored Talents

Currently, the expense of biomedical scientific investigations is expanding greatly. A great part of these biomedical studies is repeat work and less significance. Mathematics or physics-majored students and talents have a number of unique characters that are very important for biomedical scientific investigations-include disciplinary, good intuitions, sensitive to numbers, higher logic ability of data abstraction/deductions and new model imaginative capability. They can play unique roles in the fields of biomedical science study. In order to update biomedical studies, it is a good way to recruit more mathematics or physics-majored students and talents. This editorial offers our vision on this matter. Possible future achievements are foresighted herein.

A new species of Enchodus (Aulopiformes: Enchodontidae) from the Cretaceous (Albian to Cenomanian) of Zimapán, Hidalgo, México

ABSTRACT A new species of Enchodus (Aulopiformes: Enchodontidae) is described from a quarry exposure of the La Negra facies of the El Doctor Formation (Cretaceous: Albian to Cenomanian) in the state of Hidalgo, central México. It is an elongate fish with many generic and familial characters, including dermal ornamentation of tubercles atop rows of ridges; a palatine with a single, large tooth; and a triangular preopercle. It has a number of unique characters that include the presence of an orbitosphenoid, absence of dorsal scutes, and dorsal fin rays that share common pterygiophores. A phylogenetic analysis places the new species as the sister to Enchodus gladiolus. The new species of Enchodus is the most abundant fish species at the locality. Using mandible length as an indicator of overall size, the range in lengths suggests that this species lived at or near the locality. This is further supported by other species that have individuals of large and small sizes.

Unusual Morphology in a New Genus and Species of Ceratocanthinae from New Guinea (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea: Hybosoridae)

Oxymorostes riedeli new genus and species is described from the Indonesian part of New Guinea. This new taxon is characterized by a number of unique characters: the presence of a deep excavation in the hypomeron and the unusually modified humeral area of the elytra. Its closest relationships seem to be within the newly defined “Perignamptus genus group”, characterized by mouthparts morphology, including the presence of a large pore on the mandibular surface. This group gathers at least the Oriental/Australasian genera Madrasostes Paulian, Perignamptus Harold, and Macrophilharmostes Paulian as well as a few species currently placed in other genera.
