THE INTENTION OF FEMALE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO PREVENT PREMARITAL SEX

Teenagers are susceptible to deviant sexual behavior such as premarital sex behaviors. The number of teens who do premarital sex tend toincrease every year. Premarital sex is at risk of causing unwanted pregnancy and transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. This research aims to understandrelated factors with the intention to prevent premarital sex among female high school students . This is a analytic study used cross sectional design. Sampling was done randomly with a total sample of 75 respondents. Results of this research were analyzed using Gamma correlation test with significance level (α= 0.05). The results of statistical tests indicate that there is a positive relationship between knowledge (p value = 0.007 < α = 0.05) with the intention of preventing premarital sex. Other factors such as the knowledge factors, media usage, attitudes, subjective norms, perceived control is not associated with the intention to prevent premarital sex. The results showed that respondents have a good experience to prevent premarital sex. Efforts to increase knowledge about preventing premarital sex and monitoring the use of media is very necessary for adolescent to have intention to prevent premarital sex. This research based on the statement of the Indonesian Commission of Education stating as much as 62.7 percent of teenagers in Indonesia ever do relationship as husband and wife. Supported data from the BKKBN stating that 51 percent of teens have been doing free sex. In addition, drug users at the time of the teen aged 12-21 years old in 2013 its about 14,000 people from the number of teens in Indonesia around 70 million people and from BNN release that since 2003 drug transactions are increased as much as 300 percent from 2010. This problem does not yet include a brawl between students, murder, and other negative cases among youth. Allegedly, the mass media are one of the causes for this to happen. In an effort to prevent the negative impact of mass media, are currently evolving thoughts about media literacy. That aims to control the interests and influence of mass media in the lives of individuals, families and communities as well as helping to design actions in handling the influence. Where users have media literacy media will attempt to give a reaction and assess media messages something with full awareness and responsibility. One of the institutions that concern to this is KPI (Indonesia Broadcasting Commission Area). Where in order to stem the impact of mass media against young people is to hold a workshop or training on the media literacy of the students in Jakarta.

Cosmetic Surgery and Body Image in Adolescents: A Psycho-Sociological Analysis of the Causes and Effects

This conceptual paper examines the impact of body image on Adolescents’ quest for cosmetic surgery. A reflective analysis of the literature was utilized. Factors shaping one’s perception of own body was explained .The causes and effects were also highlighted. The study has shown, that there has been a definite increase in the number of teenagers undergoing various cosmetic procedures and that a correlation can be drawn between this quest and poor body image, which could have alarming physical, social and emotional consequences. As for the causes the study has concluded that the quest to achieve a better appearance is mainly due to the socially portrayed “ideal beauty standards”. There is a consensus among researchers and medical practitioners that, the main pushing factor towards going under the knife is social especially enhancement procedures. It was also found that; the media and the rigorous capitalist’s campaign to boost consumerism is behind the rampant body idealization culture. In addition, the study has also shown that the availability of advanced cosmetic procedures in some countries has led to the increase of adolescents’ seeking body modifications.

Hubungan Pengetahuan dan Sikap Terhadap Perilaku Seks Bebas

Survey result show that there has happened the increase number of teenagers who do free sex before marriage. That big ammount is a serrious threat to family, society and nation. This research aims at confirming the correlation between knowledge and attitude to the free sex behavior of senior high school teenagers. This research used analytic research design and cross sectional approach by population of all students of X,XI and XII grade as many as 560 graders. The sample was taken by 100 respondents using simple random sampling technique this research was done on may 2016 by using questionnaire sheets. It was done at SMAN 01 Tembilahan. While the data analyzed by using univariate and bivariate analysis with chi-Square Test. The result show that 47%s students have good knowledge, 79% of them have negative attitude to free sex, and 61% have less good behavior. The test result show that there is a corelation between knowledge and free sex behavior, the score of “p value” is 0,016 and there is a correlation between attitude ti the free sex behaviou, the score of “p value” is 0,035. There is a correlation between knowledge and attitude to the free sex behavior. This research result expected can be used as suggestion to prevant the increase of free sex before marriage. And for the next researchers can research another varriable which are maybe give impact to the teenagers free sex behaviour.

Ageing meets unequal population.

We need to worry. The population is ageing, which will put all sorts of pressure on medical and social services. Census projections tells us that the numbers of people aged over 65 years are increasing much more quickly than the numbers of teenagers. With that comes multiple incurable chronic diseases and multiple medications. More people need more help in their daily lives as they get older. As a higher proportion of the population is aged over 65 years, this puts pressure on health and social care. Outbreak: On Transgender Teens and Psychic Epidemics

Having lived through both World Wars, Jung was aware of the dangers of what he termed “psychic epidemics.” He discussed the spontaneous manifestation of an archetype within collective life as indicative of a critical time during which there is a serious risk of a destructive psychic epidemic. Currently, we appear to be experiencing a significant psychic epidemic that is manifesting as children and young people coming to believe that they are the opposite sex, and in some cases taking drastic measures to change their bodies. Of particular concern to the author is the number of teens and tweens suddenly coming out as transgender without a prior history of discomfort with their sex.“Rapid-onset gender dysphoria” is a new presentation of a condition that has not been well studied. Reports online indicate that a young person's coming out as transgender is often preceded by increased social media use and/or having one or more peers also come out as transgender. These factors suggest that social contagion may be contributing to the significant rise in the number of young people seeking treatment for gender dysphoria.Current psychotherapeutic practice involves immediate affirmation of a young person's self-diagnosis, which often leads to support for social and even medical transition. Although this practice will likely help small numbers of children, there may also be many false positives.

Access to Abortion for Minors Following Implementation of the Illinois Parental Notice of Abortion Act in 2013 [13A

INTRODUCTION: With 85% of adolescent pregnancies unintended, access to safe abortion is vital for teens. Several social, economic and legal barriers impede this access. In August 2013, Illinois implemented the Parental Notice of Abortion Act, requiring providers to notify an adult family member of women under the age of 18 seeking abortion 48 hours prior to the procedure. METHODS: We performed a retrospective charts review to assess changes in care of a randomly selected sample of 180 minors seeking abortion at a freestanding clinic in Chicago for one year before and one year following implementation of the law. The primary outcome was mean gestational age at presentation. RESULTS: Mean gestational age at presentation did not differ before and after implementation (15.9 versus 14.8 weeks, respectively, P=0.8833). No difference was found between the distance travelled for care (42.1 before versus 51.2 miles after, P=0.73) or the number of out-of-state subjects (n=14 before versus n=18 after, P=0.40). Fewer teens presenting following the law obtained an abortion (95.6% before versus 78.4% after, P=0.001). The number of teens unable to obtain an abortion for advanced gestational age increased from 2 prior to 10 following implementation. CONCLUSION: While our study did not find a difference in gestational age at presentation or distance traveled to the clinic, we noted a decrease in the percentage of presenting teens who obtained an abortion and an increase in the number of teens who were turned away secondary to advanced gestational age following the implementation of parental notice in Illinois.

Constitutional features of connective tissue as a risk factor of chronic pain in adolescents

A total of 504 male adolescents aged 14-18, cadet schools students were examined to identify primary head pain and functional abdominal pain. A 4-stage-blind clinical laboratory and case-control psychological examination, in which are formed two groups: basic - 90 boys with primary head pain and functional abdominal pain, and 93 healthy children (control group). Total number of teens with headaches was 76 (48 isolated headaches and 28 - headaches in conjunction with abdominal pain). The number of cadets with abdominal pain was 42, 14 was manifested monosemeiotic and 28 - in conjunction with headaches. Complex research revealed pathogenetic common primary headaches and functional abdominal pain, to identify risk factors for their development. The analysis of the results of complex examination adolescents univariate statistics significant association features of the connective tissue with the presence of primary headache, especially in combination with functional abdominal pain. Obtained significant differences in many biological, psychological and social characteristics. Understanding alterations on blood and biochemical parameters in athletes that use dietary supplements, steroids and illicit drugs.

In recent years it was verified there are an alarming growing number of teenagers and young adults using a combination of dietary supplements (DS) anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) and drugs of abuse. This practice is used to improve physical fitness and appearance, may cause serious side effects. This article shows the alterations in the hematological and renal function parameters associate with these substances in 40 athletes. This research involved three steps: 1-the administration of a self-completion questionnaire ; 2-the assessment of hematological and biochemical parameters of renal function and; 3-toxicological urinalysis. Hematological and biochemical tests were conducted in an accredited laboratory and the toxicological urinalysis was validated in our laboratory using liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The testosterone levels in the participants who consumed steroids increased 20-60% and alterations in serum creatinine, urea and uric reached values of up to 1.9; 60.6 and 7.5mg/dL, respectively. The toxicological urinalysis supports self-reports confirming the use of AAS and recreational drugs, putting at risk the health of those athletes increasing the chances of kidney diseases.

Adolescent Pregnancy among Ethnic Variants at Lumbini Medical College

Introduction : Adolescent pregnancy is a common social phenomenon that results to both maternal and fetal related health consequences globally. Important factors affecting this high risk group of pregnancies are social, cultural, ethnic and racial disparities which may limit the care during pregnancy thereby affecting the perinatal outcome. The main objective of this study was to estimate the maternal and fetal outcome of adolescent pregnancies visiting Lumbini Medical college among ethnic variants of mid-western region. Methods : A retrospective observational study was conducted in Lumbini Medical College and Teaching Hospital for one year duration. Data was retrieved from the medical records of the admitted adolescent pregnant mothers with hospital delivery after 20 weeks’ gestation. Variables of interest were the selective demographic characteristics like place of residence and ethnicity of women, parity, and obstetrical &fetal outcomes. Results : The total numbers of admission for deliveries during the study period were 1905, out of which 462 (24.3%) were adolescent pregnancy. A total of 184 (39%) adolescent mothers were at the age of 19 and 334 (72.2%) of them were from Palpa district. The highest number of teenagers were from Janajati group i.e. 240 (52%). Among all, 38 (10%) had preterm delivery and 7 (1.5%) had intrauterine fetal death. While 407 (88.3%) adolescent pregnancies had vaginal deliveries, 54 (11.7%)of them had lower segment cesarean section (LSCS). Fifty-one (11.4%) neonates had low birth weight (below 2500 gm)and 11 (2.4%) had stillbirths. Among the low birth weight, 32 (51%) newborns were admitted to neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Conclusions : Adolescent pregnancy is higher common in Palpa district of Nepal. Janajati adolescent girls are becoming pregnant early after marriage. Higher numbers of teenagers are 19 years of age and are primigravida. On reaching the tertiary center, obstetrical outcome is better with less maternal morbidity and no mortality and better neonatal survival. DOI: https://doi.org/10.22502/jlmc.v3i1.59

Factors Associated with High School Students' Delayed Acquisition of a Driver's License

In recent years the number of teenagers and young adults acquiring a driver's license has declined in many developed countries worldwide, with long-term implications for transportation planning. However, the reasons for this decline are only partially understood. Some research has focused on surveys of young drivers without licenses, but few studies have looked at the characteristics and attitudes of youth of driving age as a whole. Other studies have focused on young adults but not teenagers. This study addressed these gaps by examining the results of a survey of students at three high schools in Northern California. These results indicated that demographic factors such as race–ethnicity and parental education level, which was used as a proxy for socioeconomic status, were correlated with licensing and the age at which a license was obtained. Smartphone use, frequency of participation in after-school activities, and bicycle ownership also corresponded positively with increased licensing rates, while actual bicycle use, enjoyment of riding the bus, and ability to rely on parents for transportation corresponded with decreased licensing rates. Use of electronic communications in general was not found to correspond highly with licensing rates, and environmental concern had no significant relationship. These results suggest the need for further research to separate economic factors from other possible factors influencing licensing rates of high school students.

Enjeux et perspectives psychopathologiques de la phobie scolaire

BackgroundIn our modern society, the number of teenagers and adolescents refusing to go to school is regularly increasing. These difficulties are a common reason for medical consultation. Indeed, school requirements which often interfere with puberty and with adolescent processes can be a source of important psychological conflicts. Despite the intellectual abilities of these young people, these situations of anxious refusal are often incomprehensible for professors and parents alike. MethodsBuilding on an extensive review of historical and clinical literature, the authors recall the interest enjoyed by the generic term “school phobia”. Object of a considerable number of reports and studies in psychiatry and psychopathology, distinguished from other forms of phobias or educational problems (truancy, learning refusal), school phobia was defended by the psychodynamic orientation of European psychiatry. This notion knows nowadays some disaffection. More recently, the promotion of school refusal is currently the peak of the psychologizing of youth and adolescent experiences in school. With undeniable political and economic issues, “school refusal” is expected as an ideological attractor in the field of health. ResultsThe article shows the importance of school phobia at the crossroads of mental pathology. When school refusal includes the most diverse school issues (defection, addiction, avoidance, self-sabotage) and mask the clinical characteristics of these behaviors, school phobia has historically allowed for essential clinical discussions on anxiety, depression and secondly to distinguish phobic symptoms of classic style and those belonging to very diverse defensive formulas (borderline, psychosis). DiscussionsFor many children and adolescents, school phobia is part of a very emergency symptomatology. This subjective solution is certainly very precarious. It may however be the support of a major “work on oneself.” beyond contemporary syndromic categories, the authors point the importance of active listening. The multidisciplinary care of the adolescent must pay significant attention to the dynamics of the family psychic economy.

Teen driving behaviors in a rural southern state.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers. Alabama ranks fourth in the United States for teen crash fatalities. We sought to describe risky driving behaviors among teens in the rural areas of the state's most populous county. A questionnaire was adapted from the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System. Each of the schools in Jefferson County, Alabama, participated in 2009 and 2010. Surveys were anonymous and data were entered into an Excel spreadsheet. Inclusion criteria were age 15 years and older. A total of 1399 surveys met inclusion criteria. A total of 52% of respondents were boys; 64% were white, 29% were African American, and 3% were Hispanic. Respondents were 15 (38%), 16 (36%), 17 (21%), and 18 (5%) years old. When asked about behaviors during driving in the last 30 days, 41% reported texting and 11% reported driving after drinking. Teens reported being a passenger in a car with the driver texting (67%) or after the driver had been drinking (27%) in the last 30 days. Overall, 58% reported not wearing a seatbelt; 13% reported driving after using drugs; 60% reported routinely exceeding the speed limit; 80% reported having discussed safe driving with a parent, but only 16% with their doctor; 25% had signed a safe driving contract; and 63% had taken a driving class. Many risky behaviors were identified for both teen drivers and passengers. A concerning number of teens are not receiving safe driving educational messages from parents, doctors, or driver's education classes. Some interventions have been instituted; however, more outreach efforts should be made to focus on strengthening driving laws and educating parents and teens.

Idiopathic Scoliosis

Idiopathic scoliosis (IS) is a lifetime condition and is defined as a structural, lateral rotated curvature of the spine of >10° on standing coronal plane radiographs. It should be distinguished from other causes of scoliosis. It can be classified as infantile, juvenile, and adolescent according to age. As a rule of thumb, about 80% of all curves are idiopathic, right convex thoracic, and present in otherwise healthy girls at the beginning of puberty. A family member most commonly detects scoliosis. The structural asymmetry of the spine is best observed by asking the patient to bend forward. IS is often seen in more than one member of a family, but the aetiology remains unknown. Multiple genes are likely to be involved with incomplete penetrance and variable expressivity. Early detection by screening allows for monitoring curve progression and timely initiation of bracing, but school screening is controversial and practises vary worldwide. Most patients have minor scoliosis and treatment is generally not recommended for patients with curves <20°, but in many European countries clinicians recommend physiotherapy (scoliosis specific exercises) for smaller curves. The indication for bracing is a progressive curve of 25-45° in a growing child. Its effectiveness has been debated, but in a large recent randomised study, the number of teenagers with high-risk curves who progressed to the threshold of surgery was significantly reduced. Surgery is recommended for patients with curves >45°. Scoliosis surgery was not successful until the introduction of Harrington’s instrumentation in the 1960s. Modern instrumentation has evolved from the Cotrel-Dubousset system in the 1980s, and a variety of methods are available today. Although scoliosis may be a burden, long-term studies suggest that a good quality of life is maintained in most patients.

Intervenção para promoção da atividade física em escolares: efetividade sobre o deslocamento ativo, exercícios de força e estágios de mudança de comportamento

High schools represent a favorable environment for the development of interventions to increase physical activity because they reach a large number of teenagers. The goal of the study was to determine the effectiveness of an intervention to promote physical activity among high school students (through the ‘Saude na Boa’ project) through assessing the stages of behavior change and the practices of muscle-strengthening exercise and active commuting. The present study comprised a randomized and controlled intervention conducted in Recife and Florianopolis, Brazil, during 2006. Dependent variables included active commuting (cutoff values: ≥1 and ≥5 days per week), the practice of muscle-strengthening exercises (cutoff values: ≥1 day per week and the recommended level of physical activity), and behavioral changes regarding physical activity. Of the 2,155 students included in the baseline data, 989 were evaluated in the post-intervention period (45.9%). In comparison with the control group, the intervention group significantly increased the practice of active commuting to school on ≥ 1 day per week (80.5% vs. 86.8%, p<0.001) and ≥ 5 days per week (64.3% vs. 71.9%, p<0.001), the practice of muscle-strengthening exercises on ≥ 1 day per week (41.4% vs. 46.0%, p=0.017), and the achievement of the recommended levels of exercise (28.9% vs. 35.0%, p=0.002). The intervention group reached higher stages of change in physical activity behavior compared with controls (p = 0.004). The ‘Saude na Boa’ project effectively enhanced the practices of active commuting to school and muscle-strengthening exercises and resulted in an increased physical activity status.

Factors influencing adaptation and performance at physical exercise in complex congenital heart diseases after surgical repair.

In the last thirty years, steady progress in the diagnostic tools and care of subjects affected by congenital heart diseases (CHD) has resulted in a significant increase in their survival to adulthood, even for those affected by complex CHD. Based on these premises, a number of teenagers and adults affected by corrected (surgically or through interventional techniques) CHD ask to be allowed to undertake sporting activities, both at a recreational and competitive level. The purpose of this review is to examine the mechanisms influencing the adaption at physical exercise of patients suffering from complex CHD. The conclusion is that even if there are some modest risks with exercise, they should be seen in perspective, and the life-long benefits of regular exercise on general health, mood, and well-being should be emphasized.

Talking smack and the telephone game: conceptualizing cyberbullying with middle and high school youth

Cyberbullying has become a mainstream topic in the media as an alarming number of teenagers have taken their lives due to bullying that has occurred in combined unsupervised spaces both in school and online. While suicide is a problem associated with intense cyberbullying and bullying behavior, there are, many more teenagers affected by ‘everyday’ cyberbullying and bullying behavior. Research is emerging about this phenomenon but there are deficits in understanding cyberbullying, identifying victims, and describing the impact of cyberbullying on both victims and perpetrators. Data from four focus groups (n = 24), with students in the sixth to twelfth grades show that they see cyberbullying differently than researchers' current definitions. Findings also indicate that cyberbullying is often connected to gossip and rumors and the outcomes of cyberbullying participation vary widely.

Factors responsible for the rising trend in teenagers' online purchases

Previously, the field of e-commerce was only interested in doing business with organizations and adults. However, recently online business owners started to focus on teenagers because the numbers of teenagers that go online increases day by day. If compared to adults, teens usually spend much more time using the internet. Thus, the website designers started to focus on designing e-shopping portals for teenagers. Teens differ from kids and adults in terms of psychology, drifts, and tendencies. As a result, there is a need to understand the factors or attributes that attract them to shop online. The previous literature shows that there is lack of studies that focused on designing online portals concerning teens. Therefore, this paper aims to understand the teens’ drifts, tendency and how the harmony of the teens with the portal can be attained. This is obtained through analysis of literature review, investigating some teen shopping portals, and conducting survey. In order to increase the effectiveness and usability of the teen e-shopping portals, this paper investigates the factors that are most likely to attract teenagers to purchase online products. From the results, it is concluded that teens care more about the aesthetics aspects, and entertainment elements in a portal rather than anything else. САМОТНІСТЬ У ПІДЛІТКОВОМУ ВІЦІ ЯК СОЦІАЛЬНО-ПСИХОЛОГІЧНА ПРОБЛЕМА

The analysis of the research ?ndings of the contemporary Russian and Ukrainian authors shows that there is no consensus in interpreting the nature of loneliness, its origin, speci?c aspects of manifestation in the publications of foreign and native scholars. This allows to outline the problem ?eld of the investigation of loneliness as a social and psychological phenomenon. A teenager acquires social experience in the course of establishing various social relations. The development of individualization, weakening of relationships with the primary group, intensi?cation of the social mobility within a society and the general instability provoke the growth of the subjective loneliness. The number of teenagers suffering from subjective loneliness grows in the contemporary society. This feeling, as a rule, leads to deviations in behavior and brings about such dangerous consequences as depression, abuse of drugs and alcohol, gambling addiction and even suicide attempts. Thus, loneliness results in serious problems. Parental neglect and lack of parental support seem to be the main reasons which stimulate the feelings of loneliness in teenagers. Positive feedback in the families where teenagers experience the lack of parental support is very weak and inadequate, which cause the stagnation of the subsequent socialization of teenagers.

Are teenagers at risk for developing cardiovascular disease in later life?

The aim of this study is to measure the occurrences of the following risk factors: tobacco use, levels of physical activity, levels of physical inactivity, and body mass index (BMI) among adolescents in Trinidad. A two-stage random sampling process was used to select schools and students. Data were collected using a pretested self-administered questionnaire and included age, gender, ethnicity, tobacco use, levels of physical activity, levels of physical inactivity, BMI, and frequency of fast food consumption. Overall, 44.6% of the 1896 adolescents already had more than two risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD). The most prevalent risk factor was the consumption of fast food (79.8%), while the least was smoking (12.0%). Out of the 75.4% physically active students, 47.6% spent more than 30 min in daily physical activity. In addition, 30.4% of the study population was overweight and obese, with the majority being 14 years of age (p=0.003). Overall, the overweight and obese students spent a significant amount of time watching television, playing video/computer games and talking on the phone, and frequently consumed fast food (p<0.001). The study found a significant number of teenagers in Trinidad presenting with more than two risk factors that may lead to CVD. Based on previous research, these findings have undoubtedly placed the students well within the models used to predict heart disease later in life.
