Roles of KH. Abdul Wahab Sya'roni and Syaikh Ali bin Ahmad Basalamah in the Development of Thariqoh Tijaniyah in Jatibarang, Brebes, Central Java

The main purpose of this article is to examine the roles of K.H. Abdul Wahab Sya'roni and Shaykh Ali bin Ahmad Basalamah in the development of Thariqoh At-Tijaniyah in Jatibarang Brebes, Central Java Province. This discussion is very interesting given that this thoriqoh is developing in the spreading area of other thariqoh that is Thariqoh Qoodiriyah Naqsyabandiyah. Therefore, its spreading faces some challenges. The spread of Thariqoh At-Tijaniyah in Jatibarang Brebes cannot be separated from the critical roles of Kyai Sya'roni and Shaykh Ali bin Ahmad Basalamah. In the beginning, these two ulamas pioneered the establishment and development of thariqoh which is not only bounded to Jatibarang Brebes but also widen to the neighboring areas, especially in the Northern Coast of Java (Pantura). Nevertheless, the next development of this thariqoh is centered in Jatibarang, Brebes. Regarding to this matter, the development of Thariqoh At-Tijaniyah especially in Brebes and the roles of these kyai will be discussed.

Tidal inundation (“Rob”) investigation using time series of high resolution satellite image data and from institu measurements along northern coast of Java (Pantura)

Tidal inundation (in Javanese they call it “Rob”) is now becoming a well known phenomenon along northern coast of Java Indonesia (Pantura). The occurrence of tidal inundation was recognized at least in the early 2000 and even earlier. In the recent years the tidal inundation comes not only at a high tide but even at the regular tide in some area across Pantura. In fact in location such as Pondok Bali, north of Blanakan, north of Pekalongan, north of Semarang and north west of Demak, seems those areas are sinking to the sea through times. Sea level rise and land subsidence are considered as main factors deriving the occurrence of this tidal inundation. We were using time series of high resolution satellite image data and insitu data measurements to mapping the tidal inundation along northern coast of Java. All available data from google data satellite archives (year 2000- recent years) and any available sources being analyze together with field surveys tagging and also from media information. As a result we can see the tidal inundation are taking place in Tanggerang, Jakarta, Bekasi, Cilamaya, Pondok Bali, Blanakan, Indramayu, Cirebon, Brebes, Tegal, Pemalang, Pekalongan, Kendal, Semarang, Demak, Gresik, Surabaya, Sidoarjo and Pasuruan.

KARAKTERISTIK USAHA PENANGKAPAN NELAYAN PANTAI UTARA JAWA DENGAN ARMADA < 5 GT DI KABUPATEN INDRAMAYU

This study aims to determine the characteristics of the fishing vessel < 5 GT restricted to household characteristics and fishing bussines activity. Indramayu regency chosen as the location for a center for fisheries research on the northern coast of Java. Types of data collected in this study are primary and secondary data. The data collection is done by three techniques, namely direct interviews, recording data related to the study of institutions and observation. The number of fishermen who seek respondents as many as 49 people from different households. Respondents were selected by purposive sampling in accordance with the objectives. The data collected is then analyzed descriptively. Financial analysis approach used to calculate the reception and the costs associated with production. The results showed that the age of most of the fishermen belonging to the group of young household members (productive age) with the level of education in mayority is the equivalent of primary school. Most number of household members as much as 3-5 people. Total investment value of the fishing unit about Rp. 43.360.000,-. Total costs incurred by fishermen during the year about Rp. 112 560 000, -. The revenue during the year about Rp.247.239.000, - with the average profits about Rp. 11.223.250,-/ month.

Acculturation in the Architecture of Lasem City

Lasem city, located on the northern coast of Java, is particularly well-known for its buildings with Chinese architecture, thus the nickname “Little Chinese (or China) in Java”. Despite the deeply ingrained Chinese ethnicity in Lasem, history recorded the tight bond of solidarity between the Chinese and the Javanese. Religious, racial, and ethnic conflicts between the two ethnic groups hardly existed.           By using the phenomenological approach, this research focuses on the process of acculturation in Lasem. It specifically attempts to document the acculturation process manifested through building structures and settlement patterns as a model of the daily life of the Indonesian society. The findings of the study suggested that acculturation process has greatly influenced the structure of the buildings in Lasem. Many buildings in Lasem mix the Chinese and Javanese architectures in their space layout and details. The outcome of this research is a model of acculturation process reflected in architecture. This model can be implemented in other cities in Indonesia.Â

Biodiversity and Distribution of Horseshoe Crabs in Northern Coast of Java and Southern Coast of Madura

Horseshoe crab is an important component of macro-benthos communities in the fine sand or mud substrate in coastal waters, both in the tropical and temperate region. This primitive animal consists of four species in the world, and three species can be found di Asian region, including Indonesia, namely Tachypleus tridentatus, T. gigas, and Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda. Scientific information about species distribution of three Asian horseshoe crab in Indonesia is limited, also about morphometric characters. This study aims to determine the morphometric characters and species distribution of three Asian horseshoe crab in north coast of Java and south coast of Madura Island. This study was conducted on July-August 2016. The total number of three Asian horseshoe crab obtained in this study was 260 individuals, distributed along north coast of Java and south coast of Madura Island, respectively 176 individuals of C. rotundicauda, 35 individuals of T. tridentatus, and 49 individuals of T. gigas. Tachypleus gigas has the largest size and widest class interval among three Asian horseshoe crab species. Morphometric characters is differences among three Asian horseshoe crab species. Carapace width and telson length were not significantly different among sampling locations only in T. tridentatus.

Kambang Putih Revitalization: Paving the Way towards Indonesias Global Maritime Fulcrum

Tuban District or formerly known as Kambang Putih is one of the districts in East Java located on the northern coast of Java. Tuban has great potential in marine field and the majority of the population work as fishermen. Historical facts have explained that Tuban once had a port that has a big role in the reverse flow of world civilization, namely the port of Kambang Putih. It should be preserved to this day, to further optimize the heterogeneous economic activity. The port is one of the economic distribution access which is suitable with coastal community or fisherman especially in trade field. Socio-cultural society that has several rides of sea tourism make Tuban has its own attraction for the people to visit it. Authors writing this scientific paper using qualitative research methods with descriptive approach. Data collected in the form of words, both in the form of oral and written in the form of pictures and documents, and the behavior of informants that can be observed. This type of research is used with the intention to provide a description of the issues raised as well as shown to simplify the phenomena found in the study. The analysis of this research uses the theory of Sulivan on revitalization, because this study discusses a concept of regional revitalization that will be done to improve the function of the remaining resources based on historical relics. This study discusses the strategic steps in the concept of development. Because, this idea is formed to enhance the values of society through the integration of natural and human resource development. Thus, the topic of discussion to restore the glory of Kambang Putih: Indonesia's strategic step towards the global maritime fulcrum is important to be done in achieving the national goals of the nation.

Sea Level Rise on Tuban Coast in East Java and its Consistenty with MAGICC/SCENGEN Prediction

Sea level rise is one of the impacts of climate change and global warming caused by the increase of human activities leading to the increase of concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The impacts of sea level rise itself will be greatly felt by coastal areas in island countries, one of them is Indonesia (specifically the district of Tuban). The purposes of this paper are (1) to indicate that tidal data in Semarang and Tuban (both of them are cities in the northern coast of Java) can be used to estimate the sea level rise in the region through the means of comparison, and (2) to compare sea level rise in MAGICC model and show that sea level trends for Tuban district are consistent with global values. The results shows that the tidal data in Tuban has a higher value than the tidal data in Semarang by a margin of 0.03 m, so the trend of sea level rise in Tuban is y = 0.002x + 0.751, consequently the sea level rise per year is 0.024 m. Comparison of sea level rises between the MSL data of Tuban district with MAGICC model indicates that the sea level trends for Tuban district (local) are consistent with global values, that is, in the year of 2100, the sea level rise will reach 2.64 m while emissions scenario that comes close is the WRE 550 scenario, that is, in the year of 2100, it will reach 2.9 m.

LOKASI OPTIMAL PENGEMBANGAN TPI UNTUK MENDUKUNG PERKEMBANGAN KAWASAN PESISIR KECAMATAN KRAGAN KABUPATEN REMBANG

Geographically, District Kragan is located in northern coast of Java in Rembang Regency. Based on that, one of the potential sector in the district is marine fisheries. That sector is an alternative livelihood and increase the economy of Rembang Regency. To support the marine fisheries sector, it needed adequate infrastructure, such as fish comercial trader (a.k.a.TPI). There are 3 TPI in District Kragan: TPI Pandangan, TPI Karanglincak, and TPI Karanganyar, but not operating optimally. So, there’s less result of productivity, processing and marketing of fish in District Kragan. That problem effect on people's income and revenue of District Kragan.The method that used is quantitative methods, and approach to determine the minimum time and cost, marketing area, and maximum profit. In addition to analyzing the availability of infrastructure and facilities that support the development of coastal areas Kragan is using scoring analysis. Base on that analysis, the optimal location of the development of TPI in the District Kragan is on TPI Padangan because it has a large area, and thus allowing to support the development of TPI and accommodate the availability of infrastructure and facilities.

BUDAYAKEMISKINAN NELAYAN DI MANGUNHARJO SEMARANG

Mangunharjo is an isolated area located in Northern Coast of Java. where most residents are fishermen. There are various dimensions of poverty of the residents, among others are social, economic cultural and institutional. Several factors which contribute to She poverty are natural conditions, technology (fishing gears), education level, pattern of life, marketing and government programs which do not favor them. There are four integrations to solve this problem namely infersectors, expertise and knowledge, multi problem solving and also location integration.

Effects of the cold tongue in the South China Sea on the monsoon, diurnal cycle and rainfall in the Maritime Continent

AbstractWe investigate the effects of the cold tongue in the South China Sea (SCS) on the winter monsoon, rainfall and diurnal cycle in the maritime continent using a numerical model verified with satellite rainfall and reanalysis data. Composite analysis of the observation and reanalysis data based on cold tongue index indicates that the penetration of the monsoon to Java Sea is enhanced when the cold tongue is strong. A sensitivity experiment without the cold tongue shows that the winter monsoon is diminished over SCS and around coastal regions because of anomalous low‐level cyclonic circulation associated with enhanced convection over SCS due to the warmer sea surface temperature (SST). The diurnal cycle, in particular the night–morning rainfall, over the sea in coastal regions is modified. The effect on daytime rainfall over the land is relatively weaker. Along the northern coast of Java far from the SCS, the night–morning rainfall is much reduced over the Java Sea when the cold tongue is suppressed because of the weakened land‐breeze front as a result of the weakened northerly monsoon. In contrast, the afternoon–evening rainfall on Java Island is slightly enhanced, showing that the local impacts are not simply the result of large‐scale subsidence from the convective anomaly in the SCS. Along the northwestern coast of Borneo adjacent to the SCS, the weakened winter monsoon tends to reduce the rainfall at the land‐breeze front near the coastline. On the other hand, the warmer SST forces a stronger land breeze and the weakened monsoon encourages further and faster offshore propagation of the land‐breeze front. Consequently, the rainfall peak shifts further offshore in the sensitivity experiment. We conclude that the cold tongue has two effects, the sustenance of a strong monsoon (indirect effect) and the cooling of local SST (direct effect), which have opposite influences on the diurnal cycle in the Maritime Continent.

Batavia as Patria: Literary Representations of Batavia in W. J. Hofdijk’s Work

The depiction of Batavia is examined in W. J. Hofdijk’s long epic poem In ’t harte van Java (In Java’s Heart) published in 1881; a detailed description of the city was incorporated into his narrative, showing Batavia as seen through Javanese eyes, and thus turning the city into an emblem of the fatherland itself. Founded on the northern coast of Java in 1619, the city of Batavia was admired for its picturesque beauty and its overall European character. The qualities for which it was praised hint at Batavia’s curiously hybrid nature: whilst in many respects it differed dramatically from the Netherlands, it was at the same time portrayed as quintessentially Dutch. It was an exotic, far-away place and yet an integral part of the nation. This dichotomy represented an obvious complication for writers in the Netherlands eager to extol its virtues.

Struktur Komunitas Makrobentos Polychaeta Di Ekosistem Mangrove Desa Bedono Kecamatan Sayung Kabupaten Demak

Mangrove forest is a tropical coastal communities is dominated by several species of trees or characteristic shrubs that has the ability to grow in salty waters. The study aim was to describe structure community of Polychaeta Macrobenthos in the village of Bedono, district of Sayung, Demak Regency (06055’44”S - 110029’42”E) and has been conducted between April 2010 to September 2010. The area, due to its position in the northern coast of Java, has influence by Java Sea especially its long-shore current which in past decades has been changing due to the Semarang Port development. Effort has been made by OISCA, a Japan environmentally concerned NGO, to rehabilitate the area by planting mangrove even though the result is just still uncertain yet. This research was aimed to know the stucture of polychaeta macrobenthos communities Bedono Village, District Sayung, Demak Regency. This research used descriptive eksplorative method and while for the intake of sampel polychaeta conducted quantitative just taken that is only pursuant to volume unit. In this research, the location was divided into 4 stations, each with three replication of sampling transects. Intake sample conducted at fairish plot 1m x 1m with the deepness 10 cm. The result found 6 famili polychaeta : Nereidae, Amphiromidae, Eunicidae, Capitellidae, Arenicolidae, dan Acoetydae. There tedency that vegetation of mangrove progressively make abundance polychaeta very much.

The artisanal seine- and lift-net fisheries of the north coast of Java

. Small-scale seines and lift-nets account for 30–50% of the fish catch along the northern coast of Java. Beach-seine catches include Sciaenids and Leognathids but the nearshore anchovy Thryssa (Engraulidae) is the most common genus. Lift-nets and payang (surface seine) catches are dominated by Stolephorus, and the mini purse-seine catches by Sardinella and Rastrelliger. Mean catch per daily trip is from 25 to 50kg for lift-nets, about 100kg for surface seines, and over 200kg for beach-seines and mini purse-seines. Information from official statistics, auction-place records and previous research reports and publications is combined with new information about catch-rates and species composition to provide a first step towards developing a management programme for this fishery.

Sonneratia spp. was genetically unique genera. They had some members in Java, especially Sonneratia alba and S. caseolaris. This species have ability to cross reproduction, and produce fertile hybrid, although the fertility is lower than the parent, so they hard to differ morphologically. This research had been done in 6 sites (populations) of the southern and northern coast of Java, i.e. Bogowonto estuary, Kulonprogo (1 pop.), Segara Anakan, Cilacap (2 pops), coast of Pasar Bangi, Rembang (1pop), Juwana estuary, Pati (1 pop), and Canal Wulan estuary, Demak (1 pop). The research indicated that S. alba was more dominant, but there were some confused inmorphological character, that may be caused by hybridization. Isozymic analyses on peroxidase and esterase marker to 60 individuals (10 per population) had been no differing in isozymic band significantly. They have similarity index value more than 60%. It indicated, that they tend to same species than separate it.Keywords: isozyme, diversity, Sonneratia, northern andsouthern coast of Java.

The Tao of Islam: Ceng Ho and the Legacy of Chinese Muslims in Pre-Modern Java

The fact that "Sino-Javanese Muslim Cultures" are scattered over Banten, Jakarta, Cirebon, Semarang, Demak, Jepara, Lasem, Gresik, and Surabaya on the northern coast of Java (see also below) is strong evidence of the encounter between Cheng Ho (and other Chinese Muslims) and Javanese societies over the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. These "Sino-Javanese Muslim cultures" are not only found in the form of mosques which show evidence of acculturation processes between China, Islam, and Java, but also in literature, arts, and other artifact Seen from another perspective, these historical facts illustrate the Chinese major role in spreading Islam in the region. Unfortunately, although the Chinese contribution in shaping Indonesian civilizations and Javanese cultures is apparent, only a few scholars have concerned themselves with the issue.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v16i1.489
