Sikap Bahasa Masyarakat Terhadap Penggunaan Bahasa Pertama Di Kecamatan Paleteang Kabupaten Pinrang

This study aims to: (1) reveal the language attitudes toward the use of the first language in Paleteang Subdistrict, Pinrang Regency, as seen from age, and (2) reveal the language attitudes toward the use of the first language in Paleteang Subdistrict, Pinrang Regency, as seen from gender. This type of research is a mixed-methods study, combining both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The population of this study consists of people living in Paleteang Subdistrict, Pinrang Regency. The sample for this study consists of 30 individuals. The sampling technique used was stratified random sampling, grouped into 5 age categories and 2 gender categories from the villages of Pacongang and Temmasarangnge. Data collection techniques included observation, questionnaires (surveys), and interviews, with data analysis using descriptive statistics and PawsStatistical analysis in the form of percentage data from each respondent’s answers on the language attitude scale. The results of the study indicate that: (1) The language attitudes (loyalty, pride, and awareness of norms) of the community toward the use of the first language in Paleteang Subdistrict, Pinrang Regency, based on age, are insufficient. This is due to the phenomenon in the minority community where individuals are neither loyal nor proud of their first language. The language attitude percentage scale is <50%, with a significant value of <0.05, (2) The language attitudes of the community toward the use of the first language in Paleteang Subdistrict, Pinrang Regency, based on gender, are adequate. This is reflected in the overall percentage result of the community's language attitude toward the use of the first language (Bugis or Makassar language), with a percentage greater than 50%. Both male and female attitudes are positive, with no significant difference in language attitudes (loyalty, pride, and awareness of norms) and a significant value of >0.05.

From Breaches to Breachers

This article offers a development of Garfinkel’s (1984) breaching experiments. The discussed breaches are not artificially staged to provoke a reaction, instead they occur naturally in the context, in this case the design field. Also, the focus shifts from the breaches to the people enacting them, the breachers. Three examples of breachers are compared, enabling a deepened understanding of what they have in common, what sets them apart, and what they reveal about the prevalent conditions of the context in which they occur. From a position of in-betweenness/ “mellanförskap”, breachers illuminate blindspots and push the boundaries of what questions are possible to ask in their respective fields. Not only breaches, but also breachers offer valuable friction, building norm awareness that is a premise for norm criticism and ultimately norm creativity.

SONAR: An Adaptive Control Architecture for Social Norm Aware Robots

AbstractRecent advances in robotics and artificial intelligence have made it necessary or desired for humans to get involved in interactions with social robots. A key factor for the human acceptance of these robots is their awareness of environmental and social norms. In this paper, we introduce SONAR (for SOcial Norm Aware Robots), a novel robot-agnostic control architecture aimed at enabling social agents to autonomously recognize, act upon, and learn over time social norms during interactions with humans. SONAR integrates several state-of-the-art theories and technologies, including the belief-desire-intention (BDI) model of reasoning and decision making for rational agents, fuzzy logic theory, and large language models, to support adaptive and norm-aware autonomous decision making. We demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of SONAR via real-life experiments involving human-robot interactions (HRI) using a Nao robot for scenarios of casual conversations between the robot and each participant. The results of our experiments show that our SONAR implementation can effectively and efficiently be used in HRI to provide the robot with environmental and social and norm awareness. Compared to a robot with no explicit social and norm awareness, introducing social and norm awareness via SONAR results in interactions that are perceived as more positive and enjoyable by humans, as well as in higher perceived trust in the social robot. Moreover, we investigate, via computer-based simulations, the extent to which SONAR can be used to learn and adapt to the social norms of different societies. The results of these simulations illustrate that SONAR can successfully learn adequate behaviors in a society from a relatively small amount of data. We publicly release the source code of SONAR, along with data and experiments logs.

Social Norm Awareness and Norm Compliance in Online Games

Online games are one of the most popular information systems in the world, with over 2 billion users worldwide. Most users follow the social norms and standards of behavior in online games, but some violate social norms, negatively affecting others’ gameplay experiences and weakening loyalty to the game. The social norms in games and other online environments often differ from the social norms in the real world, so are users who violate norms doing so deliberately or are they unaware of the norms? Our results suggest that many users violate social norms because they do not understand them—about a third of the 1,093 participants in our study reported being unsure of the social norms in an online game they played regularly. Greater experience with a game did not significantly increase social norm awareness. Instead, perceptions of social presence, and learning routines (i.e., community learning and instructional support) influenced social norm awareness, which in turn influenced norm compliance. Thus, a technology’s social affordances, social presence, and learning routines are more important than experience using a technology in helping users become aware of and comply with social norms.

Membidik Masa Depan Bahasa Di Era Society 5.0; Kajian Pemertahanan Bahasa

The development of technology in the era of Society 5.0 has influenced social interactions and language changes. This research aims to describe the forms and functions of slang, as well as the importance of language maintenance that needs to be enhanced in the era of Society 5.0. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. This method describes language changes in terms of the formand function of slang, as well as the importance of language maintenance because of technological advancements in the era of Society 5.0. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation and note-taking. This method allows researchers to gain a deep understanding and insight that may not be visible through other approaches. Data was collected by observing language data used in digital platforms and then identifying them in the process of language formation and analysis of language functions.The results of this research include the existence of fifty slang words with the following formation processes: (1) phonemic structure reversal, (2) changes in the final syllable with -ay, (3) acronym, abbreviation, and phrase forms, (4) word reversal forms, and (5) words from regional languages. Data were analysed based on their functions as: (1) expressive, (2) directive, (3) informative, and (4) fative. As for research in the field of language maintenance resulting from technological changesand language usage, the required attitudes include: (1) language loyalty, (2) language pride, and (3) language norm awareness.

Literature Review: Teachers’ and Students’ Language Attitude Towards the Use of Indonesian Language in the Japanese-Speaking Classroom

This study aims to discover the variety and research trends for L1 language use in the L2 classroom. This study used library research or literature review to collect and process the data. The data originated from national and international articles, journals, and documents. Many sources have shown the result of the study stating that using a first language in learning a foreign language, especially in the speaking classroom, has made teachers and students get several positive attitudes. According to some research, the three characteristics of positive attitudes toward using the Indonesian language in the speaking classroom-language involve loyalty, language pride, and language awareness of norms that both teachers and students highlight. The two methodologies most commonly used in linguistic attitude studies are direct and indirect measures. The results of a survey of linguistic attitudes indicate whether or not students are effective at learning a language. Attitude is known, not innate. Students can improve their favourable language attitudes toward other languages through specific educational activities

Sikap Bahasa Mahasiswa Multikultural di Fakultas Brahma Widya Universitas Hindu Negeri I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar Terhadap Mata Kuliah Bahasa Bali

The existence of Balinese language courses at a university received various responses from students at the university. Moreover, a university has students who come from different cultures, such as multicultural students at the Brahma Widya Faculty of UHN IGB Sugriwa Denpasar. The responses that come out cause different language attitudes between students from one another. Based on this background, the problems discussed in this study are how the language attitudes of multicultural students at the Brahma Widya Faculty of UHN IGB Sugriwa Denpasar towards Balinese language courses. This study aims to describe the language attitudes of multicultural students at the Brahma Widya Faculty of UHN IGB Sugriwa Denpasar towards Balinese language courses. The population of this research is the students of UHN IGB Sugriwa Denpasar, precisely at the Brahma Widya Faculty, Department of Hindu Theology in the 2021/2022 academic year with a total of 29 students selected through the total sampling technique. The method of data collection was carried out using a language attitude questionnaire/questionnaire using three characteristics of language attitudes according to Gavin and Mathiot. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative which is then followed by qualitative verification. The results showed that the language attitude of the students of the Brahma Widya Faculty of UHN IGB Sugriwa Denpasar showed a tendency for positive language attitudes in Balinese language courses. This can be seen from the three characteristics of students' positive language attitudes, namely language loyalty, language pride, and awareness of norms in the main language of Balinese. Even though they come from areas with different cultures, these multicultural students have great motivation in learning languages, especially Balinese language is included in the courses they get during their education at UHN IGB Sugriwa Denpasar.

What happens next? Exploring women's transport motility through the story completion method

This paper explores the three elements of motility (access, competence, appropriation) through women's perceptions of travel using the metro rail in Delhi, India. Studies on metro rails are a recent phenomenon in developing countries where this is a relatively new transport mode. The concept of motility to explore gendered use of metro is useful in context of this South Asian city where women's movements (potential and actual) are contingent upon their ability to travel safely.Data was collected using story completion methods. Participants were asked to complete an online semi-structured form that presented five fictional story stems/openings. Data in this paper is based on stories finished by 84 female participants across Delhi with varying demographic profiles. This paper advances qualitative research on women's mobility and transport use by highlighting situation-specific metro access; necessary skills to optimize access; and how women actually use the metro system.Feelings of un/safety related to fear of sexual harassment, getting lost, and risk of contracting diseases in unhygienic conditions results in specific access of the metro to feel safe. Diverse skills to manage the access include: coping (e.g., adapting to delay in services), performative (e.g., mannerisms to feel safe from threat of violence), spatial (e.g., location of coach), cultural (e.g., awareness of norms), and sanitary skills (e.g., bodily modifications to feel safe from unhygienic conditions). Based on travel priorities and past mobility experiences (personal/shared), the skills and access shape how women travel and what they decide to do to travel safely.This paper advocates for gender inclusive guidelines and collecting disaggregate data in transport, especially for newer metro systems being planned or constructed. It presents an opportunity to consider the barriers to women's potential mobility; how/where transport systems can play a part; and the use of qualitative research methods to appreciate the diversity of women's travel experiences across different segments of their journeys.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS’ ATTITUDES TOWARD INDONESIAN LANGUAGE IN HIGHER EDUCATION

This study aimed to examine students’ attitudes toward Indonesian language from public and private universities in Indonesia. Additionally, this study examined what aspects are considered unfavorable or adverse from students' attitudes towards the Indonesian language. The online questionnaires with 30 statements were used to collect the data from 812 students from public universities and 705 students from private universities. The instrument's validity was carried out by two methods of testing, namely the content validity test and the testing. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics with Independent T-test sample test. The findings revealed that students' attitudes towards Indonesian both from state universities and private universities were both in a good category, and there was no difference in the results of the different test attitudes with a significance value of 0.970. In terms of the aspects of loyalty and pride towards Indonesian, it was in a sufficient category. The findings also indicated that students’ attitudes in public and private universities were categorized as sufficient. For this reason, lecturers who teach the Indonesian personality development course further foster students’ awareness to be loyal and proud of the Indonesian language by prioritizing Indonesian in every academic activity. It is necessary to develop a sense of loyalty, pride, and awareness of norms towards the Indonesian language even higher.

LANGUAGE MAINTENANCE OF BUGINESE IN BASTIONG VILLAGE, TERNATE, NORTH MOLUCCAS (A SOCIOLINGUISTIC STUDY)

ABSTRACT. The aim of this research is (1) to describe how the Buginese maintain their language in the society of Ternate city, especially in BastiongTalangame village and also (2) to describe the factors contributing to the maintenance of Buginese Language in BastiongTalangame village.There are two data sources that the researcher uses; they are primary data and secondary data. In analyzing the data, researcher used qualitative descriptive methods. The data was analyzed with sociolinguistic theories which intend to make the researcher easier to understand and observe how language maintenance can survive in people’s everyday lives.The findings of this study indicate that this research is spoken by the people in the house, the surrounding environment, and also in public areas such as markets that can still survive. Buginese people use Buginese language when they communicate one another. However, they use Ternate Malay when communicating with people with other tribes. It can be concluded thatn the factors contributing to the Buginese Language maintenance include social and environmental factors where they are in a region of language concentration, namely in the BastiongTalangame Village, a language attitude factor that includes language user loyalty, pride in language and also awareness of norms that are still found in maintaining language And the last factor is a migration, where the Buginese community that comes and settles in the city of Ternate.

From glass ceiling to firewalls: detecting and changing gendered organizational norms

ABSTRACT This article is based on an empirical case study with an interactive research approach focusing on gendered norms in a Swedish truck Company. It discusses the combined value of using the metaphor of a firewall for (1) analysing how organizational constraining gendered norms are done in everyday organizational life, and (2) as a practical tool to facilitate the processes aimed at improving norm awareness. The metaphor embodies an understanding that makes it possible to visualize relational ongoing organizational processes and power dimensions. In addition, the firewall is useful for emphasizing variations and complexity. Variations and dynamics are manifested in the ways that employees need to fulfil varying “codes” in order to be accepted. The possession of certain codes (norms) that are required to pass through the first layer of the firewall (employment), and give access to some networks, does not automatically ensure acceptance and integration into more influential networks (referred to as the informal and inner layers of the firewall). The results furthermore show that the firewall metaphor is fruitful when facilitating reflection processes amongst employees to improve norm awareness and to discuss strategies for change. The conclusion is that the firewall metaphor facilitates an analysis of the relational and complex doing of constraining norms, and that it also can be used to initiate change.

Human Capital and Economic Growth

Education is invaluable. In addition to helping shape individuals it also has economic and societal benefits, enhancing productivity in industries, for example. However, such long-term impacts don't manifest immediately and, therefore, the effects of home and school education cannot be quantified until a child becomes an adult and enters the workforce. This is why researchers are seeking to empirically investigate the true impact of education. Professor Kazuo Nishimura, Research Institute for Economics and Business Administration, Kobe University, Japan, is working with Professor Tadashi Yagi and other collaborators to determine the relationship between what children are taught and how this influences knowledge and skills in adult life. He is seeking to unearth new discoveries related to the normative attitudes that are generated through family education and how these can affect human capital; specifically, the knowledge, skills and abilities that workers acquire as capital. Nishimura's research involves conducting surveys on family education, the results of which are widely applicable, encompassing parenting at home, human resource development in businesses, student teaching in schools, and the attitudes of children. In a study on parenting methods in relation to norm awareness, social issues and the perspectives of family in adulthood, Nishimura found that: qualities such as honesty can enhance an individual's interests, parenting that encourages independence leads to greater future success for children and self-determination has a bigger impact on wellbeing than income. These findings will enable Nishimura and his collaborators to develop evidence-based recommendations.

MAINTENANCE OF JAVANESE JONEGOROAN LANGUAGE IN BOJONEGORO STUDENTS IN BRAWIJAYA UNIVERSITY, MALANG

Javanese of East Java dialect has several subdialects, one of which is the Jonegoroan subdialect. Jonegoroan Javanese Language (BJJ) is still spoken by a group of Bojonegoro students in the University of Brawijaya Malang in their daily communication. This study aims to 1) interpret language cases; 2) variation patterns, and 3) reveal the reason for the use of BJJ by Bojonegoro students in UB Malang. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data collection uses observation, interview, recording, and listening techniques. Data analysis in this study used a sociolinguistic approach with several theories, including the theory of language retention and the theory of word change. The results of this study are 1) cases of linguistics that often arise in speech use are apheresis; 2) BJJ variation patterns include forms of suffix changes and several other terms that are distinguishing or indicating BJJ identity toward Javanese in other regions; and 3) the reasons for saying BJJ is expression of regional spirit, compulsion, bonding solidarity, ethnic existence, ease of communication, habits, pride, awareness of norms, and language loyalty.

EFFICIENCY OF NATIVE LANGUAGE EDUCATION IN THE TRANSCARPATHIA BASED ON A REPEATED QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY (2008–2018)

During our research, we wish to find out whether the native language education reform of 2005 brought any positive changes in teaching the common language norm in the Hungarian schools in Transcarpathia. The research conducted last year (20 schools, 280 students) proved that additional native language education has a spectacular result: young people have a far more positive, objective attitude towards non-common language versions. By all means it is also worth to know whether any such changes can be discovered concerning the use of language phenomena observed with the help of the three task types. Based on an earlier survey it was proven that changes can actually be observed concerning the opinion about lan- guage dialects since the Hungarian language curriculum of 2005 became effective. This change is clearly positive. Students showed benevolence concerning language dialects, dialect speakers in far larger proportion than earlier. And it is not only present in the field of numbers. Their explained opinion also shows a more objective, rational view. Whether we look at the approach to, perspectives of the concept of language dialects, or the reasoning of their answers based on emotional attitude (e.g. Would you feel sorry if dialects died out?). It is clearly an efficient change compared to the earlier data that while in the course of the previous survey the situation of the minorities, borrowed elements were not mentioned concerning the local language variants (or if they were, then in a negative context). These changes are clearly due to the additive attitude and the secondary school textbooks prepared in this view.Such clear changes cannot be observed concerning tasks about common language norm awareness. Small differences can be seen concerning a few phenomena in the percentage of standard answers: in the case of using -nák, the future tense of the predicate kell. Studying the adverb of place suffix -nál/-nél used instead of -hoz/-hez/-höz and -tól/-től in a comparative function only shows an increase in percentage in the case of sentence correction tasks. This indicates that in the past 10 years representatives of the studies age group became somewhat more aware.The changed attitude that can be found in the Hungarian language curriculum in Transcarpathia and in the Hungarian language textbooks is by no means favorable for this positive change.

Parenting methods in relation to norm awareness, social success, and perspectives of family in adulthood

The importance of parenting methods applied in the home to child development is broadly acknowledged. However, there has not been much empirical research showing how parenting methods later relate to personality formation and social success in adulthood. In this study, we asked adults in Japan to recall messages received from parents during early childhood, and we then tested the strength of the relationships of the messages with performance in adulthood. Messages passed from parents to children were investigated from the following three aspects: (1) the norm message passed from parent to child, (2) how the message was delivered to the child, and (3) how the child received the message. Our general conclusion is that the ways in which messages are passed from parents to children in the course of a child’s development can have a long-term and material effect on the child. This conclusion is valid for the message itself, for the method of delivery, and for the way in which it is received.

THE LANGUAGE ATTITUDE OF CULINARY ENTREPRENEURS IN BANJARMASIN

This study aims to describe the language attitude of culinary business entrepreneurs, and the culinary business language behavior.in Banjarmasin Type of research sociolinguistic research The method used in collecting data was by using questionnaire, data processing by calculation with Likert scale, the data is analyzed and presented in the form of diagrams and tables. The results found are a) the attitude of the language towards Indonesian language associated with norm awareness, loyalty, and cognition of culinary entrepreneurs in Banjarmasin is generally low (C); this is caused by the assumption that language is not important, and what is preferred is the market or market; b) the response of culinary entrepreneurs to the linguistic phenomenon in the world of chemistry shows a trend that is better than language attitudes. This mean s that they can adequately judge whether the use of the language used in the business of graft is wrong or right, good or bad.

Balinese Hegemonic Politness in Awig-Awig of Desa Pakraman

This study is aimed at revealing the linguistic markers used in the awig-awig that have succeeded in generating hegemonic politeness in Balinese society. The data of this research were taken from a number of awig-awig documents collected based on sampling areas, which represent Balinese dialectal variations. The obtained data were triangulated through interviews with a number of prajuru‘leaders’ of desa pakraman. Based on the pragmatic theory it is revealed that the characteristics of awig-awig of the desa pakraman are: (1) using the imposing utterance, (2) using the maxim of wisdom and acceptance of the politeness principle, (3) using modalities, (4) emphasizing on assertive, commissive, and directive illocutionary, and (5) being consistent in applying the maxim of quantity and means of cooperative principles. All these characteristics are manifested by the direct-literal type of act in the Balinese language of alus singgih 'honor-high'. In association, the Balinese variety of alus singgih is used to honor the participants. The use of Balinese language alus singgih is believed to foster awareness of norms and values for every Balinese.

Re-conceptualising interpreting strategies for teaching interpretation into a B language

ABSTRACTDespite a cognitive disadvantage when interpreting into one’s B language, strategy use and awareness of norms allow interpreters to be resourceful and efficient in achieving communicative goals. There is a need to incorporate strategy training in interpreter education, especially when teaching into-B interpreting. However, strategy taxonomies proposed by different scholars are incompatible, causing confusion in teaching. Furthermore, strategies are not meaningfully represented in a model that justifies their use. This paper aims to re-conceptualise production-related interpreting strategies for pedagogical purposes, accommodating trainers’ suggestions about into-B interpreting. Taking cognitive and temporal constraints as well as interpreting norms into account, we create a trainee-friendly strategy model and a taxonomy that help students understand how strategies fit into a larger picture. Interpreting strategies are re-categorised into three main types: problem-solving, problem-preventing, and message-enhancing. Strategies are streamlined, adjusted, renamed, and grouped under four catchy principles: BE FLEXIBLE, ONE CHUNK AT A TIME, BE CLEAR, and BE CONCISE. For pedagogical application of this strategy taxonomy, we adopt an instructional framework that activates cognitive, metacognitive, and social-affective aspects of learning.
