Purpose We aim to explore the negative side of the digital transformation of firms by focusing on the carbon footprint of consumers’ everyday behaviours online. Design/methodology/approach A multi-method approach was employed. We collected data from interviews with experts, a netnographic study of online users and in-depth interviews with sustainability-minded consumers before and after an intervention. Data were analysed by employing sequence analysis. Findings Findings suggest that even among sustainability-minded individuals, knowledge of the carbon footprint of online activities is very low. Upon being educated about it, however, consumers responded in a few different ways, which are showcased here. Originality/value We know very little about the social practices and consumer behaviour that influences the environmental outcome of digital actions. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this study is among the first to explore the mechanisms that affect consumer behaviour online and the role sustainability plays in shaping it.

Objectives: Prolonged opioid use leads to tolerance and hyperalgesia in patients with chronic pain. Apart from an increase in pain, opioid use also leads to several other adverse effects. Nevertheless, the prevalence of opioid use as a treatment for chronic pain remains high, and opioid withdrawal interventions deserve more attention. This study evaluates the effects of a guideline for an opioid withdrawal intervention method that is nested in cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT) and is specifically for patients with a history of long-term opioid use and chronic pain. Methods: We conducted a clinical, exploratory, and mixed-methods study involving pre- and post-measurements on opioid use and health-related quality of life (SF-36), as well as a qualitative analysis of patient experiences (interviews) to evaluate the program. Results: A total of 29 patients were included in the study; 23 of these patients no longer used opioids, and some continued withdrawal under the guidance of their general practitioner. Quality of life improved in all domains, including the amount of pain experienced. No patients reported increased pain levels, and most experienced significantly fewer adverse side effects. Patient satisfaction was high, with no negative long-term side effects of the intervention reported. Conclusions: In light of the results of this study, it is important to address opioid use in patients with chronic pain. There are strong arguments in favor of motivating patients to withdraw from using opioids to treat chronic pain, which can be achieved in combination with CBT.

In recent years, the digital economy industry in China has developed vigorously, gradually becoming an important supporting force to promote China's economy, and the development of the digital economy has also affected China's labor market. This paper focuses on the impact of digital economy development on China's labor employment and corresponding strategies. First, this paper cites relevant data to clarify the significant role of the digital economy in economic growth, as well as the current status and structural contradictions in labor employment. Subsequently, it analyzes the impacts of the development of the digital economy on labor employment from both positive and negative perspectives. Positively, it creates job opportunities, enhances employment efficiency, and improves workers' skills. On the negative side, it gives rise to structural unemployment, exacerbates employment inequality, and brings to the fore challenges related to rights protection. Finally, it proposes measures such as strengthening digital skills training and promoting industrial integration, emphasizing the need for multiple measures to achieve a positive interaction between the two.

This study investigates the evolving relationship between social media narratives, diasporic identity, and collective memory in a context marked by increasing migration and growing digital media engagement. Employing a scoping review as a meta-analysis approach, we analyzed scholarly literature from 2014 to 2024 across Diaspora Studies, Sociology, and Communication Studies to understand how cultural and identity narratives are evolving amid fast-developing digital technologies. Out of 250 sources collected, 69 were shortlisted for in-depth review based on their relevance to the research questions. The study reveals a dichotomy in digital narratives concerning diasporic identity and collective memory, highlighting both positive potentials and negative drawbacks. On the positive side, digital narratives can foster empowerment, memory preservation, and community building. On the negative side, they may pose challenges to personal and collective identity, exhibit anti-democratic tendencies, and undermine cultural diversity. The research concludes by proposing a new analytical framework for examining diasporic identity and collective memory in relation to social media narratives, along with specific suggestions for future research in this ever-evolving ecosystem.

Abstract BACKGROUND For central nervous system (CNS) tumors, the use of intraoperative fluorophores can significantly improve resection in several ways. Although sodium fluorescein (Na-Fl) has been used for CNS tumors since the 1940s, experience and use of Na-Fl is relatively limited. To date, existing studies of Na-Fl assisted resection of brain metastases (BM) have involved a limited number of patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS Any patient at our institution who underwent resection of a cerebral lesion suspected of being BM between November 2023 and March 2025 received 200 mg 10% Na-Fl solution during induction of anaesthesia. The multidisciplinary tumor board confirmed the indication for any BM resection. A 560 nm filter microscope was used for intraoperative fluorescence guidance. Fluorescence patterns and extent of resection according to early postoperative cT1w MRI were recorded. Postoperative overall survival was determined for the available cases. RESULTS We enrolled 67 patients (28 females, mean age of 64 ±10 years) who underwent resection of at least 1 BM using intraoperative Na-Fl induced fluorescence. 43 patients had singular and 25 patients had multiple BM. Na-Fl fluorescence was positive in 94%, negative in 3% and not documented in another 3% of cases. Most common primary cancers were non-small cell lung cancer (43.3%), gastrointestinal carcinoma (13.4%), and malignant melanoma (10.4%). No negative side effects of Na-Fl were observed in any patient. Cost per patient was 12€. According to postoperative MRI, a gross total resection could be achieved in 64.2% of cases. Long-term data were available for 32 patients. Median follow-up time was 3.9 months (SD 3.8), and 6-month survival rate was 46.9%. Overall survival was statistically significantly different between patients with singular or multiple metastases (p<0.006, Log rank test). CONCLUSION Na-Fl facilitates intraoperative detection of BM. It appears to be safe, inexpensive and easy to use. However, Na-Fl also appears to accumulate in the adjacent areas of impaired blood-brain barrier. Further studies are warranted to investigate the benefits of using Na-Fl to improve the extent of resection.

Whilst forming the backbone of perioperative analgesic regimes in joint replacement surgery, the negative side effect profile of opioids is well known. Common impediments to a smooth running Enhanced Rapid Recovery model of care are often altered cognitive function and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), both related to opioid use. This study focuses on evaluating whether further reductions in intraoperative opioid use during joint arthroplasty can be safely achieved with minimal impact of such reductions on pain control and postoperative outcomes including opioid requirements and the incidence of PONV and ability to mobilise. Case controlled review of prospectively collected data assessing intraoperative opioid use, postoperative analgesic requirement, incidence of PONV and cognitive status as well as day 0 mobility postoperatively. 50 patients were randomized in the study and control groups. The study group received statistically significant lower dose of intraoperative opioids equivalent to 24.18mg of Morphine compared to control group with equivalent to 69.58mg of Morphine (p<0.001). There was no statistically significant increase in analgesia requirement postoperatively and no negative influence on PONV or ability to follow immediate postoperative rehabilitative protocols. Opioid use intraoperatively can be reduced even further without any compromise of postoperative pain control and PONV and may further reduce impediments to efficiency in rapid recovery models of care.

Abstract Background Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in developed countries and the incidence is increasing. Most prostate cancers are detected localized, the prognosis is good, and men live for many years after the diagnosis. However, their wellbeing and quality of life (QOL) outcomes are impaired by the cancer and the negative side effects of treatment, of which we received up-to-date information. Methods We conducted a postal survey for prostate cancer patients diagnosed during one year at the Pirkanmaa and Etelä-Pohjanmaa wellbeing service areas Finland (n = 973) to study the patients’ wellbeing a few months after diagnosis. The patients’ experiences of care and negative effects of treatment was asked, and their wellbeing/QOL measured with validated instruments. Predictors of various wellbeing/QOL indicators were investigated. Results Respondents (n = 605) were on average 71 years old (SD 8.14, range 50-93); 78% were married or cohabiting; 17% was divorced or widowed, 42% had a college or university education; and 78% had retired. At diagnosis, 51% had received completely enough information on the disease, 63% on treatment options, and 45% on treatment side-effects; complete information decreased psychological symptoms (p < 0.001). 24% would have wanted more information. Uncertainty about the future (by 41%), relief that the symptom cause was found (20%), and fear of disability (4%) predicted level of depressive symptoms (p < 0.05) and psychological symptoms (p < 0.01). Most support was received from the spouse 62% and children 35%, and 78% reported that their partnership was improved. Exercise increased overall wellbeing/health while resting and organizing things decreased it and increased psychological symptoms (p < 0.01). Results are preliminary (n = 327). Conclusions The patients had unmet information needs, but support was commonly received from the loved ones. Some psychological responses, and cancer induced behavior had harmful impact on the patients’ wellbeing. Key messages • Prostate cancer patients’ unmet information needs at diagnosis should be addressed in clinical work. • Patients’ psychological and behavioral response to their prostate cancer needs attention in their care.

BackgroundTikTok [ByteDance] is a significant source of mental health–related content, including discussions on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). While the app fosters community building, its algorithm also amplifies misinformation as influencers without relevant expertise often dominate conversations about SSRIs. These videos frequently highlight personal experiences, potentially overshadowing evidence-based information from health care professionals. Despite these concerns, TikTok holds potential as a tool for improving mental health literacy when used by professionals to provide credible information.ObjectiveThis study aimed to examine TikTok videos on SSRIs, hypothesizing that content will predominantly emphasize negative experiences and that videos by nonmedical professionals will attract higher engagement. By analyzing creators, engagement metrics, content tone, and video tone, this study aimed to shed light on social media’s role in shaping perceptions of SSRIs and mental health literacy.MethodsA sample of 99 TikTok videos was collected on December 8, 2024. Apify, a web scraper, compiled pertinent engagement metrics (URLs, likes, comments, and shares). Views were manually recorded. In total, 3 researchers evaluated video and content tones and documented findings in Qualtrics. User profiles were analyzed to classify creators as a “medical professional” or “nonmedical professional” based on verification of their credentials. Statistical analyses evaluated the hypotheses.ResultsThe number of videos created by both nonmedical and medical professionals was roughly even. Approximately one-third (35/99, 35%) mentioned a specific SSRI (ie, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, vilazodone, sertraline, paroxetine, citalopram, or escitalopram). Compared to medical professionals, nonmedical creators produced significantly more videos with a positive video tone (P<.001). TikToks made by both groups of creators, however, had negative content tones (P=.78). Nonmedical professionals received significantly greater overall views (P=.01), likes (P=.01), and comments (P=.03), but overall shares were not significantly different (P=.18). Daily interaction metrics revealed that nonmedical professionals received more daily interaction, but these differences were not significant in terms of views (P=.09), likes (P=.06), comments (P=.15), or shares (P=.28).ConclusionsResults showed that while both creator groups focused on negative SSRI side effects and experiences (content tone), the way they presented this information (video tone) differed. Medical professionals generally maintained a neutral video tone, whereas nonmedical professionals were more likely to adopt a positive video tone. This may explain why nonmedical professionals’ videos had significantly more cumulative views, likes, and comments than medical professionals’ videos. These findings are consistent with other research suggesting that the TikTok algorithm and users are more likely to favor and engage with videos that evoke a strong emotional response and are perceived as relatable to viewers. This study highlights the need for medical professionals to improve their approach to content creation on TikTok by using a more positive video tone to increase engagement.

ABSTRACT The correspondence with experimentally observed expanded shapes of single Shockley-type stacking faults (1SSFs), which are referred to as the final expansion shapes, is affected not only by the expansion limiting boundaries, such as the substrate/epi-layer interface and the n/p interface of PiN diodes or epitaxial layer surface, but also by where the expansion initiation point is located. In this study, these findings were derived for the first time by estimating the final expansion shape, and the results affirmed that the location of the basal plane dislocation (BPD) segment is as important as the structure of the BPD itself. We also reorganised the 1SSF expansion shapes according to the BPD structure, such as further considering three negative Burgers vectors, line directions, and types of layers with different facing direction of tetrahedrons, which corresponds to a total of 72 classifications. We were able to demonstrate through experimental analysis that the necessity of the Burgers vector on the negative side of BPD cannot be ignored, particularly when analysing the characteristic of the 1SSF structures from BPDs, which involves the bending of the dislocation line. The investigation also indicated that there are only 36 classifications in terms of the final extended shape of 1SSF, clarifying the correspondence between the equivalent Burgers vectors on the positive and negative sides.

To evaluate others' actions objectively, one must integrate the actor's mental states with the potential consequences of his actions. However, consequences can distort the perception of intentionality. The Knobe effect, or "side-effect effect," demonstrates that individuals attribute greater intentionality to negative than positive foreseen yet unintended side effects. This study explores how reasoning styles and abilities influence these judgments. A sample of 172 college students completed validated reasoning style questionnaires, including the Rational-Experiential Inventory (REI) and the Actively Open-Minded Thinking scale (AOT), a syllogistic reasoning task, and scenario-based tasks in a randomized, between-subjects design (negative vs. positive side effect). Our findings reveal that a more deliberative reasoning style and longer response times both reduce bias in attributing intentionality to negative side effects, highlighting two distinct pathways through which response times mediate the influence of reasoning style on reducing biased judgments. We explore how reasoning affects our attributions of intentionality leading to a more balanced consideration of an actor's mental state and the consequences in moral judgment.

BackgroundIron deficiency is prevalent among female athletes, often leading to fatigue, impaired recovery, and decreased performance. Conventional oral iron supplements are associated with poor absorption and negative gastrointestinal side effects, resulting in low adherence. This feasibility trial investigated the tolerability and gastrointestinal effects of an iron-yeast complex (FeSC) supplement in physically active females to assess its potential for further study.MethodsThis single-arm, mixed-methods feasibility trial recruited 14 active females (18–25 years) who consumed FeSC-fortified cookies (40 mg elemental iron) every other day for 14 days. Gastrointestinal symptoms, stress, and recovery were assessed through daily and weekly questionnaires (daily questionnaires: Gastrointestinal Symptoms Questionnaire and Short Recovery and Stress Scale; weekly questionnaires: Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) Gastrointestinal Symptom Scale; RESTQ Basic-24). Qualitative data on supplement acceptability were collected post-intervention. Feasibility was evaluated based on recruitment, retention, adherence, and safety criteria.ResultsOut of 52 participants who completed our screening questionnaire, 14 (age = 22 SD 2 years; weekly physical activity = 420 SD 140 min/week) met all criteria and completed the intervention. All feasibility criteria were met, including 100% retention, adherence, and questionnaire completion rates. Participants reported good supplement tolerability, with only a few cases of mild, transient gastrointestinal symptoms. A reduction in constipation symptoms compared to baseline and a reduction in diarrhea symptoms on days cookies were consumed compared to days they were not were observed. No serious adverse events occurred. While some participants noted a metallic aftertaste, 57% indicated that they would prefer the supplement in cookie form over traditional iron pills if given the choice.ConclusionsThis study demonstrates the feasibility and tolerability of FeSC supplementation in active females, with potential gastrointestinal benefits. Findings support progression to a larger trial assessing FeSC’s impact on iron status and long-term adherence.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov NCT06285851. Globalization has had a significant impact on various aspects of life, including the realm of religion, particularly in the field of hadith interpretation. For centuries, hadith interpretation was based on historical context, established scientific methods, and the authority of scholars as the primary reference. However, the rapid and geographically boundless connection of Muslims worldwide has brought new and complex challenges. These changes have not only affected the way scholars and historians understand classical texts but have also expanded the space for discussion into the public sphere through digital technology. This research aims to examine in depth how globalization influences the process of hadith interpretation in the contemporary era. The focus of the study includes changes in methodological approaches to interpretation, shifts in understanding of classical texts, and the influence of cross-cultural interactions and the development of digital media on shaping more pluralistic religious perspectives. The rapid flow of information enables the exchange of views across countries, schools of thought, and cultures, creating opportunities for enriching insight, but also potentially giving rise to interpretations that deviate from traditional principles. The results of this research are expected to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the positive and negative impacts of globalization on hadith interpretation. On the positive side, globalization can facilitate access to literature, encourage interfaith dialogue, and revitalize the Islamic intellectual tradition on a global scale. However, on the negative side, globalization also risks the desires of scholarly authorities, giving rise to instant interpretations without a strong methodology, and increasing the potential for conflicting understandings. These findings are expected to be relevant for understanding contemporary social, cultural, and political dynamics, as well as contributing to efforts to construct contextual interpretations of hadith while remaining anchored in solid scientific principles.

The two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae, is one of the polyphagous pests of several crops and forestry, resistant to numerous conventional chemicals. Due to the negative side effects of harmful chemical pesticides, such as environmental pollution, and risks to human health, the introduction of effective and low-risk alternatives is essential. The promising pesticidal effects of essential oils (EOs) isolated from Artemisia annua have been documented in recent studies. In the present study, the acaricidal effects of an A. annua EO, along with its two dominant monoterpenoids, 1,8-cineole and camphor, were investigated against adults of T. urticae. Artemisia annua EO, 1,8-cineole, and camphor, with 24 h-LC50 values of 0.289, 0.533, and 0.64 µL/L air, respectively, had significant toxicity by fumigation against T. urticae adults. Along with lethality, A. annua EO and monoterpenoids had significant inhibitory effects on the activity of detoxifying enzymes, including α- and β-esterases, glutathione S-transferases, and cytochrome P-450 monooxygenase. According to the findings of the present study, A. annua EO and its two dominant monoterpenoids, 1,8-cineole and camphor, with significant toxicity and inhibitory effects on detoxifying enzymes, can be introduced as available, effective, and eco-friendly acaricides in the management of T. urticae.

Floristic composition across diverse geographic regions naturally changes over time naturally at a slower pace. However, the ongoing anthropogenic activities significantly impact these changes, usually towards negative side. This makes systematic monitoring crucial for effective protection of diversity and sustainable management. The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) underlines the significance of periodic biodiversity assessments. Prevailing Forest Floras provide vital information on regional woody plant species, but due to enduring ecological shifts, updated documentation is obligatory for adaptive strategies. In Haryana, floristic studies date back to the 19th century, with contributions from several botanists and institutions over the years. In spite of various scattered studies on the region’s plant diversity, all-inclusive data on the forest flora of Haryana has been lacking. The current checklist treatises this gap by documenting 512 species of angiosperms and gymnosperms found in Haryana's forests, including 227 tree species, 203 shrubs, and 82 climbers. This work forms a strong baseline for future floristic research, conservation efforts, and sustainable utilization of the state’s forest biodiversity.

The distribution and abuse of narcotics in Indonesia has spread to almost all regions of Indonesia, especially in big cities. The influence of globalization and the results of technological advances can be enjoyed for the common good. However, behind that, there is a very worrying negative side for the survival of the younger generation. The flow of information and transformation that can no longer be stopped has caused narcotics abuse to become increasingly difficult to control. Efforts to prevent, enforce the law, and reduce the criminal act of narcotics abuse are clearly a concern of the government, which is also inseparable from the role of judges as one of the law enforcement and justice officers whose job is to try suspects or defendants. Judges have a very important role in a series of law enforcement processes, especially in criminalization, because all legal cases culminate in their decisions. The role of the community in eradicating drug trafficking at the Nias Police Resort is greatly needed in order to assist law enforcement officers to prevent and eradicate the abuse of illicit drug trafficking and prevention efforts by the police which include non-penal policy efforts, namely pre-emptive efforts (counseling) and preventive (prevention).

Abstract Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies like ChatGPT now threaten bibliometrics as the primary generators of research quality indicators. They are already used in at least one research quality evaluation system and evidence suggests that they are used informally by many peer reviewers. Since harnessing bibliometrics to support research evaluation continues to be controversial, this article reviews the corresponding advantages and disadvantages of AI-generated quality scores. From a technical perspective, generative AI based on Large Language Models (LLMs) equals or surpasses bibliometrics in most important dimensions, including accuracy (mostly higher correlations with human scores), and coverage (more fields, more recent years) and may reflect more research quality dimensions. Like bibliometrics, current LLMs do not “measure” research quality, however. On the clearly negative side, LLM biases are currently unknown for research evaluation, and LLM scores are less transparent than citation counts. From a systemic perspective, a key issue is how introducing LLM-based indicators into research evaluation will change the behaviour of researchers. Whilst bibliometrics encourage some authors to target journals with high impact factors or to try to write highly cited work, LLM-based indicators may push them towards writing misleading abstracts and overselling their work in the hope of impressing the AI. Moreover, if AI-generated journal indicators replace impact factors, then this would encourage journals to allow authors to oversell their work in abstracts, threatening the integrity of the academic record.
