AbstractThe author is the newly elected National Board President of Girl Scouts of the USA and its first‐ever Muslim and millennial leader. She reflects on the leadership influence and legacy of Frances Hesselbein, who was the CEO of the organization from 1976 to 1990. The author writes that "Frances’s leadership and example in my 31 years as a Girl Scout has loomed large. My early years as a girl member were also those immediately following Frances’s tenure as National Executive Director.’’ This influence continued throughout the author’s life: “As I progressed to becoming an adult volunteer and eventually a National Board member, I leaned more formally on the lessons that Frances imparted to us all through her thought leadership.” As she assumes her new leadership role, she notes that “We are steeped in the Girl Scout Promise and Law: courageous and strong, with a commitment to honesty, fairness, and respect for ourselves and others.”
