Current Situation and Countermeasures of Music Teaching in Colleges and Universities

With the development of social economy and the advancement of educational reform, music education in Chinese colleges and universities is gradually paid attention to. However, there are still many problems in music education. Through the analysis of the current situation of music teaching in universities in China, it is found that there are some problems in music education, such as unclear educational concept and goal, single teaching content and method, insufficient teaching resources and facilities, uneven quality and level of teaching staff, or lack or unreasonable teaching evaluation system. In view of these problems, this paper puts forward the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions. Make clear the concept and goal of music education and integrate them into the overall education system; enrich the music teaching content and methods of music teaching, improve students interest and participation in learning; increase the investment of music teaching resources and facilities to provide a good learning environment for students; improve the quality and level of teachers, strengthen the teacher training and selection; establish and perfect the music teaching evaluation system to ensure the teaching quality and effect.

‘한국 동요 새노래 지도’경험 탐색: 우즈베키스탄 예비유아교사들을 중심으로

The purpose of this study is to improve students' Korean language and deliver advanced Korean music education to pre-service early childhood teachers in Uzbekistan through ‘the new-song learning activities of Korean children's songs’. 65 students in the Department of Early Childhood Education at Ferghana Korea International University in Uzbekistan were targeted. Starting in September 2023, 15 weeks of ‘the new-song-learning activities of Korean children’s songs’ classes were applied. As a result of the study, interest in the Korean language are increased, Korean was difficult for TOPIK preparation.. However, speaking Korean through song lyrics is a fun everyday English. the basic composition of music was learned through the scale of Korean Children’s songs, and an integrated approach was naturally learned through physical movement activities. It is significant in that it has prepared basic data for research on Korean language classes (bilingual classes) through Korean children's song lyrics and children's music teaching and learning methods in Uzbekistan, which is envious of advanced Korean education.

구글 크롬 뮤직랩을 활용한 초등학교 예비 교원의 AI · 디지털 매체 역량 강화 방안 연구

The purpose of this study is to provide basic data to prospective elementary school teachers to strengthen their teaching and digital media utilization capabilities in the field of music creation using AI · digital media, and to help them research on improving the curriculum of pre-service elementary school teachers. Based on this, the 2022 revised music curriculum, and current music textbooks were analyzed and 4 sessions for pre-service elementary school teachers using Google Chrome Music Lab were developed. The significance of this study is that it presented a curriculum plan for pre-service elementary school teachers that focused on Google Chrome Music Lab among various AI · digital media for music education. It is also significant that the 2022 revised music curriculum, current textbooks, and achievement-based music creation were analyzed to consider the connection between digital media and the educational field. To make suggestions through this study, first, it is necessary to discover various cases of music teaching methods using AI · digital media. Second, music creation training using digital media should be actively conducted not only for pre-service teachers but also for teachers. Finally, it is necessary to create an educational environment with digital literacy in accordance with the changing times by sufficiently establishing AI · digital-related equipment in the educational field. It is hoped that this study will help improve elementary school music creation classes and pre-service teacher curriculum using AI · digital media.

Reform Strategies for the Popular Music Public Course Based on Key Competences

This study aims to explore the application potential of international music teaching methods in the reform of public basic courses of popular music in Chinese universities. Using mixed research methods, the applicability of Dalcroze, Kodaly, and Orff teaching methods was systematically evaluated through expert interviews, teaching material development, and a quasi-experimental design. The study found that these methods have high overall applicability in the Chinese higher education environment (average rating 4.183/5), but require localization adjustments. Based on this, the innovative textbook "Fundamentals and Applications of Popular Music" (IOC value 0.920) and a 12-week teaching plan (IOC value 0.880) were developed. The results of the 16-week teaching experiment showed that the students in the experimental group were significantly better than the control group in terms of music theory knowledge, appreciation ability, creative ability and learning interest (p<0.01). This study proposes a curriculum reform strategy that integrates innovation, technology empowerment, and interdisciplinary integration, providing theoretical basis and practical guidance for improving the quality of popular music education in colleges and universities. Future research directions include expanding the sample scope, conducting long-term follow-up studies, and deepening cross-cultural comparative analysis.

The Role of Experiential Learning in Transforming Music Appreciation Education and Pedagogical Practices

This study examines the role of experiential learning in transforming high school music appreciation education. Grounded in the experiential learning theories of John Dewey, Kurt Lewin, and Jean Piaget, the research explores how active and immersive approaches can enhance students' emotional and intellectual engagement with music. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the study incorporates teacher interviews, student surveys, and a case study centered on a specific music lesson (Homesickness Melody). Results indicate that experiential learning fosters creativity, deeper emotional connections, and critical thinking skills, while addressing some of the limitations of traditional music teaching methods. However, challenges such as teacher readiness, resource availability, and student participation were identified as key barriers to implementation. The case study demonstrated the effectiveness of kinesthetic and sensory activities in enhancing students' appreciation of music. Overall, the findings suggest that experiential learning offers a promising pedagogical strategy for music education, promoting both aesthetic literacy and emotional engagement.

The Construction of Localized Teaching Model of Orff Music Teaching Method Based on Big Data Analysis

This paper discusses how Orff's music education system is combined with the localized teaching mode under the background of globalization, especially with the support of big data analysis to realize the innovation of music education. Orff's music education has attracted worldwide attention for its openness, diversity and innovation. In China, its localization practice aims to balance the international educational concept with the local cultural needs. The innovations of this paper are as follows: firstly, the big data analysis technology is integrated into the localized teaching mode, and the new mode of music teaching is analyzed; Secondly, advocate students' active participation, get rid of the shackles of traditional teaching and make music learning lively and interesting; Thirdly, from a new discipline perspective, combined with the frontier concept of national music education, this paper interprets Orff's localization theory and practice in order to push Orff's music education in China out of the dependent development mode.

Application of Technological Means and Innovative Teaching Methods in Vocal Music Education

In the context of rapid advancements in information technology, the application of technological means in the field of education is becoming increasingly widespread, and vocal music education is no exception. This paper aims to explore the specific applications of multimedia technology, virtual reality technology, and artificial intelligence technology in vocal music education, and analyze the positive effects of these technologies on enhancing teaching effectiveness. Furthermore, this paper proposes innovative teaching methods such as interactive teaching, project-based learning, and interdisciplinary integration, with the goal of stimulating students' interest in learning and improving teaching quality. By integrating technological means with innovative teaching methods, this paper explores effective pathways to modernize vocal music education, providing new ideas and references for the future development of vocal music education.

Reform and Development of College Music Teaching under the Background of Big Data

With the progress of the times, big data has gradually influenced the daily lives of people and is gradually changing the ways people learn. Big data plays a role in the field of college music education, changing college music education methods significantly. The use of big data technology can make teaching resources more abundant and teaching methods more diversified, which improves the efficiency and quality of college music education. The application of big data has long been the norm in the field of education. As an innovative educational means, colleges should make full use of the advantages of big data to promote college music education and to cultivate the growth of students.

Develop a curriculum for first-year students at Aksu vocational and technical college’s school of humanities and arts, focusing on teaching Chinese folk songs

This research investigates the integration of Chinese folk songs into the curriculum at Aksu Vocational and Technical College, situated in the culturally diverse Aksu region of Xinjiang, China. This study identifies significant gaps in current music education methods, particularly the disconnect between theoretical learning and practical application, which hinders students’ ability to engage deeply with the material and develop employable skills. Employing a mixed-methods research design, both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used to develop, implement, and evaluate a teaching package specifically designed for first-year students. The package aimed to enhance students' understanding and appreciation of Chinese folk music, thereby improving their cultural competence and engagement with the academic content. The findings suggest that the new curriculum significantly boosted the students' knowledge of and connection to folk music traditions. It also facilitated a better understanding of the music’s historical, cultural, and social contexts. Moreover, the teaching package fostered essential skills in cultural awareness and academic involvement, contributing effectively to vocational music education in a multi-ethnic setting. This approach not only bridges the gap between theory and practice but also enriches the students’ educational experience by embedding cultural appreciation into the learning process, making a substantial contribution to the field of music education.

EFFECTS OF USING DISCUSSION SUPPLEMENTED WITH MUSIC ON INTEREST AND PERFORMANCE OF HOME ECONOMICS PUPILS IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS

The study investigated the effects of using discussion supplemented with music on the interest and academic achievement of Home Economics pupils in Primary Schools in Abia State. The study was guided by two research questions and two null hypotheses formulated and tested for the study. The design of the study was a quasi-experimental research design.. A sample size of eighty (80) which consist of 38 pupils (17 males and 21 females) that was assigned to the experimental group and 42 pupils (20 males and 22 females) that was assigned to the control group of primary five drawn from the population involving two intact classes using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used for data collection were Home Economics Achievement Test (HEAT) and Measure of Home Economics Interest Scale (MHEIS), determined using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC) statistic and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The study revealed that Pupils taught with discussion supplemented with music had more interest in Home Economics than the pupils in control groups. This is evident in the table 1 were both of the experimental and control groups had the mean gain score for experimental group I as 11.400 while that for control group was 0.750. Music teaching method has relative effect on Pupils achievement in Home Economics in terms of interest. Based on the findings, the study recommended among others that teachers should be encouraged to make use of the supplementation of music in teaching for better interest and academic achievements in Home Economics.

Simulation research on interactive entertainment e-learning based on visual saliency testing in music multimedia teaching system

In traditional music teaching method, students passively accept information and lack sufficient interaction and participation. Entertainment robots can provide students with a more interesting and engaging learning experience through means such as multimedia content, gamified elements and interactive design. The goal of this research is to develop a technology based on visual saliency testing to improve the performance of entertainment robots in music teaching systems, making them more intelligent and interactive. The research collected a large number of music multimedia teaching materials, and marked and analyzed them. The visual significance test method is used to determine the key points and important information in the teaching materials, and the computer vision technology is used to identify the areas of visual interest to students in real time. Through interaction with students, the system can adapt its output based on student feedback to ensure personalized exploration and teaching of students' points of interest. Finally, an interactive entertainment robot system is designed, which can perform intelligent feedback and interaction according to the significant information in music teaching materials. The results show that the entertainment robot system based on visual salience test shows higher intelligence and interactivity in music multimedia teaching, which greatly improves the teaching experience.

수업 시연 과정에서 나타난 초등 예비교사의 음악 수업에 대한 인식

Purpose: This study aimed to discover the perceptions of pre-service teachers about music classes and to seek directions for enhancing the music class expertise through difficulties and demands for their music classes.&#x0D; Methods: Elementary school pre-service teachers participated in micro-teaching and filled out self-assessment sheets based on recorded class videos. A survey was conducted with 201 pre-service elementary school teachers about their perception of music classes before and after micro-teaching and what they believed their needs were to improve their music class expertise after micro-teaching.&#x0D; Results: First, the teachers recognized music classes as classes that felt the beauty of music and sympathized with emotions and values by considering the learners based on music knowledge. Second, they wanted a student participation-oriented music class based on the teacher's musical knowledge and practical skills, but they were experiencing trial and error in the micro-teaching due to their lack of music class experiences. Third, they had many individual differences in their confident music classes. To improve the professionalism of music classes, they believed that they required teacher training institutions to strengthen their connection with the field, support for improving musical competence, expand the number of hours of related subjects, expand class equipment, and provide opportunities to observe and analyze excellent classes. In addition, they recognized the need to develop individual abilities in relation to music practical skills, music knowledge, and music teaching methods in relation to the difficulties they encountered while micro-teaching.&#x0D; Conclusion: For the participants in the study to grow into teachers with music instruction expertise, various efforts are required, including not only for the individuals but also teacher training institutions. Following this study, it is expected that future studies will examine specific measures to improve the professionalism of music classes.

Problematizing prescriptive methods in popular music education: Neo-liberalism, care and Little Kids Rock/Music Will

Music Will/Little Kids Rock has been a key player in the growth of K-12 popular music education in the United States. The purpose of this article is to critically consider the material designed for curricular and instructional use by Little Kids Rock through a critical content analysis of publicly available resources and reports. We examine this material through dual lenses of care and neo-liberalism, as care has been framed as a counternarrative to neo-liberal discourse. Three key themes emerged during data analysis: hero narratives, mix-and-match aims and complex negotiations with neo-liberal values. We close by suggesting that attention be paid to the ways in which methods and practices that may seem to thwart hegemonic norms are often fraught with complexity, and we encourage continued critical reads of educational programming and curricula.

Training the musical attention: Towards a new generation of methods in music education

A crucial aspect of musical ability is a music-specific empathic capacity that enables the performer to uncover subjective meanings from musical materials and fully feel them during performance. Based on insights from both theoretical and empirical research into the psychology of music performance and from pedagogical practice, this capacity is thought to rely on a more general empathic ability and can be nurtured easily in most people, including those scoring rather poor on standard musical aptitude tests measuring “melodic”, “rhythmic”, or “harmonic” skills. In my paper, I present the theoretical bases of a new pedagogical approach for nurturing in musicians the capacity of feeling the elements of musical meaning in real time (in the act of performance): I introduce a new theory of musical expressiveness by defining, from a psychological point of view and from the perspective of the performer’s phenomenology, the various layers of musical meaning (the “what” system) and the temporal-attentional abilities that enable to express them in real time (the “how” system). The paper concludes with a short introduction to a novel implementation of the above model of performer’s phenomenological processes into performance teaching: a full training of musical attention called “Practice Methodology”.

A comparison of the parental values of children's extracurricular music learning in Guilin, China and in Tampa, United States.

Many parents enroll their children in extracurricular music activities. However, cultural differences may contribute to parents' different values that ultimately influence their behaviors and attitudes. This cross-cultural study aimed to compare the value parents have on their children's private music education by examining four cases in Guilin, Guangxi (China) and Tampa, Florida (United States). Two main research questions guided this study: (1) How do parents in Guilin and Tampa perceive and value their children's music learning? (2) Does the value parents hold for their children's extracurricular music activities differ across different cultural contexts? If so, how do parents' values and perceptions of their children's involvement in extracurricular music activities differ between the contexts of Guilin and Tampa? We purposefully selected participants from two regions based on these criteria: (a) the participants included a single-child family and a two-child family in each of the two regions; (b) children's age ranged from 5 to 12 years and lived with their biological parents (c) children were currently taking music lessons after school. We interviewed both children and parents during the data collection. The key findings reveal that parental values transcend two cultural contexts, specifically in (1) motivations for music learning, (2) expectations of music learning, (3) utilizing personal background, and (4) strategies for success. The findings suggest that several factors, such as children's autonomy, musical joy, pursuit of musical career, "beauty development" and achievements, may have contributed to parents' values. The implication for parents, psychologists, and policymakers is to understand the diverse needs and values within different cultural backgrounds, to promote the children's development, to design curricula, and to use effective teaching methods in music education. In conclusion, both Guilin's and Tampa's parents' values varied due to cultural differences, which further influenced their behaviors, attitudes and perceptions toward their children's musical experiences.

The study involves a literature review and case studies from various educational institutions across Kazakhstan. It discusses the impact of such integration on students' musical skills, cultural awareness, and creative development. The paper also addresses the challenges and opportunities in harmonizing traditional Kazakh music with modern pedagogical practices. The findings reveal the importance of a diversified approach to music education, which not only fosters a deeper appreciation of Kazakh cultural heritage but also equips students with a broad range of musical competencies.
