The spraying robot for building exterior walls is an innovative technology in the field of modern construction. Damage-Tolerant and Self-Repairing Web-Like Borate Type Binder Enable Stable Operation of Efficient Si-Based Anodes.

Novel binder designs are shown to be fruitful in improving the electrochemical performance of silicon (Si)-based anodes. However, issues with mechanical damage from dramatic volume change and poor lithium-ion (Li+) diffusion kinetics in Si-based materials still need to be addressed. Herein, an aqueous self-repairing borate-type binder (SBG) with a web-like architecture and high ionic conductivity is designed for Si and SiO electrodes. The 3D web-like architecture of the SBG binder enables uniform stress distribution, while its self-repairing ability promotes effective stress dissipation and mechanical damage repair, thereby enhancing the damage tolerance of the electrode. The tetracoordinate boron ions ( ) in the SBG binder boosts the Li transportation kinetics of Si-based electrodes. Based on dynamic covalent and ionic conductive boronic ester bonds, the diverse requirements of the binder, including uniform stress distribution, self-repairing ability, and high ionic conductivity, can be met by simple components. Consequently, the proposed straightforward multifunction design strategy for binders based on dynamic boron chemistry provides valuable insights into fabricating high-performance Si-based anodes.

A scalar–tensor impedance metasurface for frequency‐multiplexed multifunctional orbital angular momentum beams generation

AbstractA scalar‐tensor composite holographic impedance meta surface (HIMS) for frequency‐multiplexed is proposed. The scalar and tensor parts operate at low frequency and high frequency, respectively, the coupling between them can be over come, and then more multifunction orbital angular momentum (OAM) beams with good performance can be obtained. As an example, a scalar‐tensor HIMS is designed for three OAM beams: (1) Beam‐I at fL = 11.2 GHz, which is generated by scalar part. (2) At fH = 18.2 GHz, Beam‐II and Beam‐III, which are generated by tensor part. The proposed scalar‐tensor HIMS has the following advantages: (i) More flexible multifunction design due to the decoupling of scalar and tensor parts. (ii) High aperture efficiency (14.93% at 11.2 GHz, much higher than conventional scalar HIMS, 23.3% at 18.2 GHz). The HIMS can be used in future high‐capacity secure communication, imaging, and so on.

1-Bit Transmission-Type Digital Programmable Coding Metasurface with Multi-Functional Beam-Shaping Capability for Ka-Band Applications.

Digital programmable coding metasurfaces (DPCMs) have recently attracted enormous attention and have been broadly applied, owing to their ability to manipulate electromagnetic (EM) wave behaviours and programmable multi-functionality. Recent DPCM works are divided into reflection and transmission types (R-DPCM and T-DPCM, respectively); however, there are only a few reported T-DPCM works in the millimetre-wave spectrum, owing to the difficulty of realising the large-phase controllable range while maintaining low transmission losses with electronic control components. Consequently, most millimetre-wave T-DPCMs are demonstrated only with limited functions in a single design. Additionally, all these designs use high-cost substrate materials that constrain practical applicability, owing to cost-ineffectiveness. Herein, we propose a 1-bit T-DPCM that simultaneously performs three dynamic beam-shaping functions with a single structure for millimetre-wave applications. The proposed structure is completely constructed using low-cost FR-4 materials, and operation of each meta-cell is manipulated using PIN-diodes, thus driving the achievement of multiple effective dynamic functionalities including dual-beam scanning, multi-beam shaping, and orbital-angular-momentum-mode generation. It should be noted that there are no reported millimetre-wave T-DPCMs demonstrating multi-function design, thus showing a gap in the recent literature of millimetre-wave T-DPCMs. Moreover, cost-effectiveness can be significantly enhanced, owing to the construction of the proposed T-DPCM using only low-cost material.

Tunable on-chip mode converter enabled by inverse design.

Tunable mode converter is a key component of channel switching and routing for optical communication system by adopting mode-division multiplexing. Traditional mode converter hardly implements high-order mode conversion and dynamic tunability simultaneously. In this study, we design a tunable mode converter filled with liquid crystal, which can convert fundamental mode into multiple high-order modes (TE0, TE1, and TE2) with a good performance and low intrinsic loss. For this multiple-objective task, we propose an inverse design framework based on the adjoint method. To experimentally prove our design, a tunable mode converter filled with air or water and a mode demultiplexer are fabricated to implement dynamic routing. The experimental results agree well with the simulation and reveal the crosstalk only around -7 dB. With its performance and efficiency, our proposed design flow can be a powerful tool for multifunction device design.

High gain and circularly polarized substrate integrated waveguide cavity antenna array based on metasurface

Two substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity antenna arrays based on metasurface are proposed in this paper. By rotating the metasurface element, circularly polarized and high gain antennas are achieved respectively. Firstly, multi-mode resonance theory is employed to broaden the bandwidth of the slot antenna. And then, an SIW cavity composed of 4 × 4 cornercut elements is added on the top of the slot antenna to achieve the circular polarization and improve the front-to-back ratio. Thirdly, the metasurface elements are sequentially rotated and a high gain antenna with 2-dBi enhancement on average in the operation band is obtained. Based on the two antenna units, two 2×2 antenna arrays are designed. The circularly polarized and high gain antenna arrays are both fabricated to verify the correctness. Furthermore, the novel wideband phase shifter is employed in the circularly polarized antenna to obtain an operating bandwidth of 38% (4.05 GHz–5.95 GHz) and AR bandwidth of 24.9% (4.4 GHz–5.65 GHz). The bandwidth of the high gain antenna can reach 42.7% (3.95 GHz–6.1 GHz) and with the gain enhancement of 2 dBi compared with that of the circularly polarized antenna. The gain remains steady in most of operating band within a variation of 1 dBi. It is remarkable that the rotating of the metasurface element has a great influence on the antenna performance, which provides a new explication for the multi-function antenna design.

The launch vehicle structure, as one of the important systems of launch vehicle, is the foundation of launch vehicle and directly relates to the overall performance of the launch vehicle. A series of technical problems are faced with the huge leap from Φ3.35 m to Φ5 m in the product size of the launch vehicle structure. To solve these problems, a set of theoretical and methodological system suitable for the design of the Φ5 m launch vehicle structure products is established by adopting innovative design concept. At the same time, the upgrading of the material system of launch vehicle structure is vigorously promoted. With the implementation of these methods, the product system of theφ5m launch vehicle structure, and the fine design and multi-function integrated design of the Φ5 m launch vehicle structure are realized.

Ergonomic Analysis on 3-Screen Multi-function Console Design of the Naval Combat System

This paper proposes a 3-screen multi-function console development method using ergonomic design approach. Ergonomically designed console has the advantage of decreasing operator fatigue and increasing concentration by providing better readability, operability and convenience. For this, thirty subjects participated in the experiment for 3-screen multi-function console design. Ergonomic standards of console design were used to establish experiment design and to eliminate incompatible results with ergonomic standards. Subjects evaluated the nine predefined placements of displays and asked to place the display and controllers in order to use comfortably. As a results, total 18 design criteria including displays and controllers placement were determined. Using a Multi - function Pressure Valve in Volumetric Hydraulics Drives

The paper deals with using hydraulic equipment for pressure and flow control in volumetric hydraulic drives to control a throttle movement speed of the output link of an executive hydraulic motor. Depending on the type of problem to be solved, hydraulic equipment is divided into the pressure and flow control, and the shutoff and regulating elements used in equipment are divided into those of valve and spool type. The main paper objective is to analyse designs and feasibilities for using a multi-functional pressure valve to solve real-life problems of control in a volumetric hydraulic drive. The paper presents a multi-function indirect pressure valve design of DZ standard size (Rezroth Bosch Group) and its detailed principle of operation. In the multifunctional pressure valve design there are threaded plugs, the combination of which allows us to control the pilot valve, using the pressure in the hydraulic system (internal control) or the pilot valve control from an external pressure source. Pilot drainage to the valve outlet port (internal drainage) or drainage directly to the tank is possible. It is shown that the term “Load Sensing System” that is used in Western equipment to mean “control based on load magnitude” can be correctly used to describe designs for using a multifunctional valve.Issues on setting up internal functional communications of the valve to select feed modes of a pilot valve and its drainage have been fully considered. By examples of using a multifunctional pressure valve, the valve operation capabilities are shown, namely as an overflow valve, a sequence one, its operation in the balancing scheme of the gravity load and as part of a hydraulic drive with alternating load. The use of multi-function pressure valve in presses allows us to increase the pressing force through using the weight of the punch. The article belongs to the category of systems engineering, and the represented options of the using valve can be applied when designing the volumetric hydraulic drives with throttle control of the movement speed of the output link in hydraulic drives.

Generic Automated Multi-function Finger Design

Multi-function fingers that are able to handle multiple workpieces are crucial in improvement of a robot workcell. Design automation of multi-function fingers is highly demanded by robot industries to overcome the current iterative, time consuming and complex manual design process. However, the existing approaches for the multi-function finger design automation are unable to entirely meet the robot industries’ need. This paper proposes a generic approach for design automation of multi-function fingers. The proposed approach completely automates the design process and requires no expert skill. In addition, this approach executes the design process much faster than the current manual process. To validate the approach, multi-function fingers are successfully designed for two case studies. Further, the results are discussed and benchmarked with existing approaches.

Development of a Composite Technique for Preconditioning of 41Cr4 Steel Used as Gear Material: Examination of Its Microstructural Characteristics and Properties

Commercial 41Cr4 (ISO standard) steel was treated by a composite technique. An intermediate layer was introduced firstly at the 41Cr4 steel surface by traditional carburizing and nitriding. Then a hard Cr coating was brush-plated on the intermediate layer. Finally, the coating layer was modified by high current pulsed electron beam (HCPEB), followed by quenching and subsequent tempering treatment. The microstructure, mechanical properties, and fracture behavior were characterized. The results show that a nanocrystalline Cr coating is formed at the 41Cr4 steel surface by the treatment of the new composite technique. Such nanocrystalline Cr coating has acceptable hardness and high corrosion resistance performance, which satisfies the demands of the gears working under high speed and corrosive environment. The composite process proposed in this study is considered as a new prospect method due to the multifunction layer design on the gear surface.

Conceptual Modeling Methodology of Multifunction Sensors on the Basis of a Fractal Approach

The problems of the multifunction sensors development make inefficient of design traditional methods application. Work purpose is an effective approach creation to the analysis and synthesis of sensors physical functional principle and creation on its basis mathematical, algorithmic and informational software for multifunction quantity sensors conceptual design automation. Authors propose the problem solution method based on fractal approach application to the theory of energy and information circuit models. For this purpose the physical functional principle sensor modeling fractal concept and mechanisms of its realization are created. This work results are new computer technique, software for the automatic synthesis of the multifunction sensors physical functional principle and two new multifunction sensors utility models automatically generated by developed software.

A New Algorithm for Phased Array Radar Search Function Improvement in Overload SituationsA new algorithm is proposed for phased array radar search function resource allocation. The proposed algorithm adaptively priorities radar search regions and in overload situations, based on available resources, radar characteristics, maximum range and search regions, optimally allocates radar resources in order to maximize probability of detection. The performance of new algorithm is evaluated by the multifunction phased array radar simulation test bed. This simulation test bed provides capability to design and evaluate the performance of different radar resource management, target tracking and beam forming algorithms. Some results are presented that show capabilities of this simulation software for multifunction radar algorithms design and performance evaluation.
