Implementasi Pendidikan Multikultural dalam Pembentukan Karakter Siswa Kelas IX di Sekolah Multikultural SMPS Sultan Iskandar Muda

Multiculturalism is an understanding that emphasizes the equality and equality of local cultures without ignoring the rights and existence of other cultures, which is important for us to understand together in the life of a multicultural society like Indonesia. Multicultural education can be formulated as a form of awareness about cultural diversity, human rights as well as reducing or eliminating all types of prejudice or prejudice to build a just and advanced society. Multicultural education can also be interpreted as a strategy to develop awareness of a person's pride in their nation. The aims of this research are: (1) To determine the implementation of multicultural education at the SMPS Sultan Iskandar Muda Multicultural School; (2) To determine multicultural education in shaping the character of class IX students at the SMPS Sultan Iskandar Muda Multicultural School, and (3) To determine the impact of multicultural learning on the attitudes of class IX students at the multicultural school SMPS Sultan Iskandar Muda. In this research, the research method used is a qualitative approach and analytical descriptive methods. Data collection was carried out in 3 ways, namely, observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this research show that: (1) The implementation of multicultural education is carried out in various ways, the first is learning procedures, namely: Praying, seating arrangements for children, dividing groups, inserting multicultural values ​​in each subject, and teachers participating in emulating multicultural education, the second is a joint religion class program, and the third is a diversity chatbot program (2) With multicultural education, it can shape students' character starting by providing lessons about politeness and humanity, mutual respect, cooperation and tolerance, not discriminating, etc. -other. (3) The existence of multicultural learning has a very positive impact on yaoti by being disciplined, maintaining manners, not discriminating against ethnicity, race and characteristics. Students can appreciate differences so that there is no gap between one child and another, especially students at SMPS Sultan Iskandar Muda who have diversity.

Multicultural Learning Competence Analysis of Teachers in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah

Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri I Malang shows a multicultural level in educational values. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to find out the pattern of teacher multicultural learning competencies in managing diversity from various backgrounds among the residents of MIN 1 Malang. This research used a qualitative approach to phenomenological research. Research findings and results: 1) multicultural experiences of teachers include; perception alerts, problem solving, and surveys. 2) The teacher's knowledge of the cultural background of students includes; knowledge of multicultural values and cultural knowledge of students. 3) teacher skills in multicultural-based learning include; transparent norms and expectations, awareness of change, and productive interaction. The conclusions in this study show that the competence of teachers at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri I Malang City in general has multicultural competence with interesting and unique patterns.

Incorporating Multicultural Education Using Multiliteracies Practices in the Extensive Reading Class

<p style="text-align:justify">Multicultural education is expected to improve the frameworks of educational institutions so that students from various ethnic, racial, cultural, and linguistic groups have equal academic accomplishment possibilities. It is essential for English as a foreign language (EFL) learners and teachers in Indonesia since English has its own culture. This research aims to comprehend the practices of multiliteracies in incorporating multicultural education in extensive reading classes. This investigation used a qualitative case study using observation and in-depth interviews to collect data from the lecturer. The results showed that the lecturer incorporated all aspects of multicultural education in multiliteracies practices using a novel. While generating cultural value from students’ life experiences, the researchers discovered content integration, knowledge scaffolding, equity pedagogy, bias degradation, and empowerment of school culture. Multiliteracies practices can serve as an innovative teaching technique to promote multicultural education. Additionally, EFL lecturers need multicultural learning materials to support this and to encourage students to think critically.</p>

Analysis of multicultural mathematics learning with RACISM and students' social attitudes

Multicultural learning is a strategy for creating a learning environment and designing a learning experience that integrates culture as part of the learning process. In multicultural learning, culture becomes a method for students to transform the results of their observations into creative forms and principles of nature so that the role of students is not merely to imitate or receive information, but to act as a creation of meaning and understanding. Subjects such as Citizenship Education, Social Sciences, Natural Science, Cultural Arts and Skills are considered to contribute to multicultural learning, but mathematics subjects can also contribute. The research aimed to find out how the use of multicultural learning in mathematical learning, on flat building materials, affected students' racism and social attitudes. This is a qualitative descriptive study that uses the interview method to gather data. The results will be qualitatively analyzed. Interviews were conducted to find out how multiculturalism is integrated into learning, how knowledge construction is built through cultural influences, how prejudice reduction occurs, how equality pedagogy is implemented, how the empowerment of school culture occurs in the learning process, and how it impacts in tackling racism and social attitudes of students after using such learning.

The Learner Integration Wheel Theory: Addressing Integration Challenges in Tanzanian School Settings

This paper introduces the learner integration wheel (LIW) theory of practice, which was developed in a larger study that explored the understanding and enhancing of learner integration in a selected Ex Model C school in South Africa. The larger study explained the LIW theory of practice as an alternative theory to change the rudimentary practices and programs and peoples’ attitudes in multicultural learning settings towards the issue of learner integration in South African school settings. In this study, the LIW theory of practice is introduced as a novel framework to address learner integration challenges in Tanzanian school settings. The study employed multi-stakeholder meetings and reflective writing activity to generate data. Data generated were thematically analyzed. The perspectives of eight participants (four teachers and four learners) who were purposively selected were explored regarding the challenges and possible solutions on the issue of learner integration in Tanzanian school settings. Findings reveal that learner integration is a crucial component in Tanzanian school settings as it enhances learners’ motivation and personalities and helps them to attain their full potential. In addition, the findings reveal that it is important for schools to work collaboratively with the community for the successful implementation of learner integration in school settings. The study maintains that implementation of learner integration through the fundamental practices and programs of the LIW theory of practice promises to benefit not only the learners but also the teachers and the entire Tanzanian school community.

Pendidikan Moral Menuju Harmonisasi Sosial

Moral education in Indonesia is urgent, because in the last decade moral issues are still very complex. This emphasizes the importance of a holistic evaluation of Islamic education, which is based on divine and human values. This article also highlights changes in the curriculum for Islamic education and citizenship education, as well as the role of teachers in facilitating learning. The evaluation process is considered important in assessing the success of moral education, and this article suggests re-evaluating current evaluation methods to better measure the achievement of moral and ethical values. This article discusses the reconstruction of moral education evaluation towards social harmony. This emphasizes the importance of evaluating moral behavior that is rooted in the student's personality. This article argues that the current curriculum in Indonesia is not yet effective in achieving educational goals, and suggests that a reconstruction of evaluation methods is needed. This article proposes several strategies for evaluating moral education, including integrating moral education with real life situations, incorporating multicultural learning, and focusing on affective and psychomotor aspects of learning. The article concludes by highlighting the desired outcomes of moral education, such as tolerance, respect, and nationalism.

Leveraging online news for language learning across diverse educational contexts

Digitization has made the news accessible to many people worldwide. Since it contains large quantities of authentic language input, online news has riveted language learners, teachers, and educators. Despite the availability of multitudes of studies on online news, research is needed to explore its potential benefits and drawbacks to guide language education. To that end, this exploratory research presented the possible educational impacts of online news on language education, offered a practical guideline for language teachers, and suggested specific news websites to utilize. The examination of a systematic literature review revealed eight potential advantages (real-world context, vocabulary expansion, grammatical/syntactical practice, heightened cultural awareness, practice/improvement in four skills, authentic language input, and content diversity) and disadvantages (linguistic complexity, content bias and inaccuracy, limited interactivity, time consumption, accessibility, and technology dependency, information overload, digital distraction, and privacy concern). Accordingly, a five-step practical guideline for using online news for classroom teaching is suggested for language teachers. The research offers news websites beneficial to multilingual and multicultural learning and awareness. Finally, the research concludes with some limitations and recommendations for future studies.

Multicultural Learning Strategies to Improve Social Care Character at an Elementary School: A Case Study at Muhammadiyah 6 Elementary School North Samarinda

This study aims to analyze teacher strategies in shaping social care character and constraints experienced in shaping social care character of third grade students at Muhammadiyah 6 Elementary School North Samarinda 2022/2023 Academic Year. This study uses qualitative methods with data collection techniques namely interviews, observations, and documentation. The study conducted at SD Muhammadiyah 6 Samarinda Utara revealed creative strategies adopted by teachers to cultivate social care character among third grade students. By implementing routine activities such as ‘Sharing Friday’, weekly infaq, and spontaneous responses in the form of reprimands and advice, teachers inculcate caring values. They also demonstrate exemplary behavior and transform the classroom environment to facilitate better social interactions. The use of magic words in daily interactions and the integration of social care values in Civics Education lessons emphasize the importance of empathy and solidarity. The researcher recommends that the school develop learning materials that reflect the cultural, religious and ethnic diversity in Indonesia and provide professional training for teachers on how to integrate multicultural education into their teaching and how to identify and respond to bias in the classroom.

Exploring the Concept of Menyama Braya: The Cultural Heritage of Hindu and Islamic Communities in Pegayaman Village as a Multicultural Learning Medium

The process of Islamic and Hindu acculturation and harmonious cultural lending in Pegayaman village interested the researchers in conducting this study. The concept of kinship or menyama braya is a concept that unites all differences in Pegayaman village. This study aims to determine (1) the existence of menyama braya in Pegayaman village; (2) the influence of menyama braya culture; (3) the process of internalizing the concept of menyama braya; and (4) the strategy of planting the concept of menyama braya. This study is prepared with qualitative research methods with three approaches, including geographical, socio-historical and cultural approaches used case study design. The results of this study show that the concept of menyama braya is very relevant to the current condition of society because this concept teaches people to remain respectful and have high tolerance even though they have different backgrounds, especially religious.

Children s Multicultural Education through Local-Dance Activities: Teacher s Thoughts and Involvement

Multicultural education for early childhood is important because it is considered a central idea in its contribution to the rapprochement of contemporary society. This qualitative study examines the thoughts of 71 teachers regarding their thinking and involvement in educational dance based on local cultural interventions as a new form of multicultural education for children. Observations of the multicultural learning process in several Kindergartens and Elementary Schools as well as in-depth interviews with teachers of children aged 6-9 years are data collection techniques to identify needs and problems related to multicultural education. These findings describe four categories related to multicultural education for children that can become a provision for 21st-century skills and illustrate the importance of educational dance as a tool for children's cultural dexterity in the future. Further research is recommended to develop products that can increase tolerance for diversity in children.

Place of elective disciplines in the formation of professional and universal competences of Master’s students of the program “Russian language and Russian culture in the aspect of Russian as a foreign language”

Elective disciplines are one of the means of formation of universal and professional competences in Master’s program. Taking into account that elective disciplines are compulsory disciplines of choice, and they are included in the variable part of the Competence-oriented curriculum of the main educational program of higher education in Master’s degree, their role in the formation of universal and professional competences increases and requires a systematic approach to the modeling of the training program, which determines the relevance of the conducted research. The purpose of the article is to analyze the ways of formation of professional and universal competences of students with the help of elective disciplines in the field of linguistics in the conditions of multicultural education. The article summarizes the experience of the department of Russian as a foreign language and its teaching methods in the joint training of Russian and foreign students in the Master’s program «Russian language and Russian culture in the aspect of RCT» (Linguistics). The methods of theoretical analysis, synthesis, interpretation, generalization were used. The main results: the system of elective disciplines should correlate with the disciplines of the basic part of the program and represent a unified whole; the disciplines of the basic and variative parts of the program are developed in accordance with the three scientific directions of research in graduate qualification works of master’s students, namely – text research, linguistic and cultural research and functional-semantic research; elective disciplines are combined into three blocks in accordance to the directions of research of master’s students. The article presents the main themes and problems of electives, as well as the forms of interaction between Russian and foreign students in the course of project assignments in electives. The conclusion is made that when modeling the program it is necessary to take into account the possibilities of multicultural learning for the formation of professional and universal competencies.

A Need Analysis for The Development of Multicultural Learning Model Based on Local Wisdom Integrated Gamification : Public Schools and Female Teachers Need More

This study aims to analyze teacher needs in Indonesia regarding the development of multicultural learning models based on local wisdom and integrated gamification. This research uses a mixed method that begins with a quantitative approach and continues qualitatively. The quantitative process starts with a literature review to synthesize research indicators and research instruments and distribute instruments to 301 teachers as respondents (urban teachers = 42%, rural teachers = 58%). Quantitative data analysis used the Rasch Model. This qualitative approach uses in-depth interviews with teachers and experts to explain quantitative research findings. The results of this study show a high need for teachers at all levels of education to develop a multicultural learning model based on local wisdom integrated gamification. The need is even greater for public schools and female teachers. This research implies that there must be further efforts to develop multicultural learning models so that they can be implemented in various schools.

Enhanced cultural awareness and collaborative learning via inter-country inter-campus global classroom learning experience

A growing body of literature recognises the importance of cultural awareness and collaborative learning in the classroom. The COVID-19 pandemic has spurred the emergence of global classrooms providing students with multicultural awareness and learning opportunities. This paper describes innovative inter-campus teaching across two countries utilising the Zoom platform and various communicative learning tools to encourage active engagement. The activities presented students with exposure to multicultural learning experiences and educators with the opportunity to revitalise their pedagogical practice. The findings will be of interest to practitioners and academics who are interested in creating opportunities for a global classroom. Feedback from students suggests that they value the opportunity to connect and collaborate. The paper concludes with the students’ reflective thoughts about the unit and how these discussions can enhance classroom engagement.

A Theoretical Approach to School Success within the Framework of Multicultural Schools

A multicultural school is meant to promote inclusive politics and equitable learning opportunities and that in the framework of the winding quest for high educational outcomes for each and every student, regardless of ethnicity and socio-economic backgrounds. School success is not merely the salient knowledge span, it encompasses a set of life skills, parental support, brain power and a myriad of attitudes meant to allow the school leaver not only to avoid depletion, but also to achieve high performance goals and, what’s more, to ensure fair treatment to all. Equipped with fortitude, resilience and a team spirit, the school leaver finds thus attainment by taking different educational pathways, from the theoretical to the vocational one. School success is ultimately about finding fulfilment, about leading a quality life and feeling integrated wherever one may be. Taking on challenges in exchanges among the different ethnic groups, making practical use of soft sills to stay connected and agile in such a community, grappling with the link between the school curriculum and the practicalities of the world around, all these might be the tipping point to be analyzed and addressed by the present article. Yet, in a multicultural learning environment attachment to one’s cultural values with its spillover implications is far from enough, it must align with keeping all lines of communication open for cultural exchange, even to the point where the exchanges become goals and social and emotional learning go hand in hand with academic achievement.

Pengaruh Model Pembelajaran Multikultural terhadap Kreativitas Seni Siswa Kelas IV pada Mata Pelajaran SBDP

This research was motivated by the large number of students who were less creative in developing their ideas and ideas. SBdP learning is still dominated by students who have an interest in the arts, so students who are less interested in the arts have difficulty understanding SBdP learning material. The purpose of this study is to describe the influence of multicultural learning models on the artistic creativity of grade IV students in SBdP subjects. The research method used is pre-experiment with a quantitative approach. The design of this study is a one-group Pretest-Posttest Design. This study involved 25 students as research subjects. Researchers carry out learning using a multicultural learning model. Students' artistic creativity is measured through a work reference test in the form of collage works. The results showed that the hypothesis tested using the t test obtained a significance of 0.000 < 0.05 so that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. This finding shows that there is an influence of multicultural learning models on the artistic creativity of grade IV students in SBdP subjects.

Developing Digital Sociology Module Based Multicultural for Students' Learning Outcomes Improvement

This study aimed to develop a digital sociology module based on multicultural learning to enhance students’ learning outcomes. The research followed the Research and Development method using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). The population consisted of 473 students, and the sample included 194 students and four teachers selected purposively based on their previous experience in teaching sociology with a digital module. Data were collected through questionnaires, expert validation sheets, user assessment sheets, and interviews. The results indicated that all teachers had used the digital sociology module for improving learning outcomes, but not all of them utilized enrichment materials from the government. Additionally, teachers showed interest in further developing the digital sociology module based on multicultural learning. The expert validation revealed that the digital sociology module was feasible with a very good rating. Furthermore, based on limited trials with sociology teachers and students, the prototype was deemed feasible with a very good category. A recommendation for future researchers is to maximize the learning process on a larger scale by involving a combination of schools or institutions.

Acquisition of Communicative Skills by Foreign Students in a Multicultural Learning Environment

The study's relevance was determined by the lack of attention towards specific aspects of foreign students' acquisition of communicative skills in a multicultural setting and the need to record the psychological and pedagogical circumstances of academic activities that facilitate successful intercultural communication skills acquisition. This study aimed to provide evidence for theoretical claims and describe the experiment that aimed to validate the psychological and pedagogical conditions under which foreign students can acquire communicative skills within a multicultural environment at Kazakh University. To investigate the cognitive, emotional, and personality-based behavioural components of communicative skills, a range of valid methods were selected. The study was conducted using a mixed method. The research comprised 22 students from China, 14 students from the Republic of Korea, 19 students from Afghanistan, 20 students from the Republic of Iran, and 9 students from Vietnam, all pursuing their education in Kazakhstan at two universities. The research results showed that high levels of empathy and ethnic tolerance were obtained by 26.4% of the experimental group and 28.2% of the control group students respectively. It was found that conflict situations were more likely to arise as a result of competition, which was confirmed by 36.8% of the experimental group and 34.8% of the control group. The results obtained have significantly broadened the parameters of foreign students' learning and work activity's communicative and personality aspects.

MULTICULTURAL SCHOOLS AND THE INCLUSIVE DIMENSION OF WELL-IMPLEMENTED COMMUNITY PRACTICES ON BOOSTING THE SCHOOL ETHOS

Multicultural schools are not merely schools where students of different ethnic groups or nationalities learn together, but primarily they are schools with an ethos. The facets and characteristics of such schools impact the learning trajectories of students and inclusive practices are the norm there. The effective implementation of such practices, the strategies for keeping the learning environment inclusive, alongside preserving identities and fostering developmental pathways are core values in multicultural schools. The article aims at highlighting the importance of salient features of such schools and the implementation of case studies provides models and frameworks to be observed. Furthermore, a skill set that promotes critical thinking and problem-solving in the context of blended learning, alongside the face-to-face one, are core competences in a multicultural learning environment. The identity construction of each ethnic group needs to blend into an educational environment that fosters unswerving cross-cultural teaching. Inclusion and integration are part of a student-centered approach to teaching, in schools where means and methods are tailored to address the specific needs of the student, turning a dependable child into an autonomous adult, regardless of the diverse socio-economic or cultural backgrounds students come from.
