Summary The acute administration of morphine caused a dose-dependent inhibition of leucine incorporation into retinal proteins of rats. This inhibitory effect was blocked by the administration of naloxone. In morphine-pelleted mice, tolerance to the inhibitory effect of morphine was observed 48 hr after pellet implantation. The fast and slow rates of axonal transport were not altered by acute or chronic administration of morphine or by abrupt withdrawal.
