Equilibres solide-liquide du systeme quaternaire Na +, K +, Mg 2+//SO 2−4-H 2O a 25°C

The 25°C isotherm of the solubility diagram of the quaternary system Na +, K +, Mg 2+//SO 2− 4 −H 2O was established by conductimetric and analytical measurements. Isohydric curves are given. The monovariant lines of the quaternary system and the invariant quaternary points are represented in an orthogonal projection.

Morphologie eutectique dans le système Cd-Pb-Sn

As the composition of the alloy is varying along the monovariant line between the two-phase Cd-Sn eutectic and the three-phase Cd-Sn-Pb eutectic, the evolution of the unidirectional solidification microstructure can be described in five stages: (a) lamellar Cd-Sn eutectic; (b) eutectic cells; (c) plates separated by three-phase Cd-Sn-Pb walls; (d) binary eutectic dendrites; (e) three-phase Cd-Sn-Pb eutectic. For the three-phase eutectic, the interlamellar spacing λ obeys the usual law: λ 2V = constant = 16 x 10 -12 cm 3 s -1.

The directional solidification of Al−Cu−Mg monovariant alloys

Alloys whose compositions lie along the ternary monovariant line between the binary Al−Cu and the ternary Al−Cu−Mg eutectics were directionally solidified at rates of 0.17 to 20 cm per hr. Both plane front and cellular or dendritic structures were obtained. A criterion for the breakdown of plane front growth based on constitutional supercooling was found to be valid at both ends of the monovariant line. It was found that the amount of ternary eutectic present at the boundaries of cellular or dendritic structures may be closely predicted by the nonequilibrium lever rule for freezing.
