Successful Teaching Strategiesand Practices in EFL Virtual Classrooms: A Qualative Study For Analyzing Several Studies and Practices

Objective: The current study intended to identify successful teaching strategies and practices in EFL virtual classrooms and to build a proposed model for designing teaching strategies and successful practices in virtual classrooms. Theoretical Framework: The research concerns itself with studies that concentrate on applications of artificial intelligence, adaptive learning, teaching methods, communication, and interaction in EFL virtual classrooms. Method: the study adopted the qualitative documentary method as the paradigm of qualitative research through extensive qualitative analyses of the contents of several previous studies. Results and Discussion: The study obtained results that comprised several successful teaching strategies in EFL virtual classrooms and a proposed model for designing teaching strategies in virtual classrooms. Research Implications: In addition to these results,this study presents numerous teaching strategies and successful practices in EFL virtual classrooms that help teaching faculty, teaching cadres in a virtual classroom environment. It also gives a proposed model for successful teaching strategies and practices in EFL virtual classrooms that aids e-learning designers in designing teaching strategies in a virtual classroom environment. Originality/Value: This study is amongst the first to investigate successful teaching strategies and practices in EFL virtual classrooms especially in the context of arabian countries .

Social responsibility of nursing in policies of health humanization

Background: new conceptions of the world have focused on restructuring health policies and designing a new healthcare model.Objective: to reflect on the humanization policy as part of health promotion with emphasis on nursing care.Content: The article mentions paradigm changes and refers to the biomedical model and the new condition of diversity in models of care practices for health promotion and co-responsibility of nursing in generating and sustaining the humanization of nursing care. It rethinks strategies and commitment to co-responsibility by nursing staff in promoting population health. Participation of nurses in promoting humanization care has shown signs of development in its acceptance, bonding healthcare service professionals and its users. An interview-conversation as a strategy for collecting information is highlighted, whether to care or to research based on a humanization framework.Conclusions: Sensitive listening, modality of dialogue, and the conversational interview method are relationship techniques and means to acquire skills for policy development in humanizing care in health promotion.

Case study on a scientific oral history project using information practice analysis

Introduction. This investigation explored 21st century stewardship of a late 20th century scientific oral history project through the lens of information practice. Oral history project stewardship and reuse are understudied. Literature review. Oral histories foreground human agency in the world. Often studied singly, many reflect an oral history project’s historiographic context. Stewardship documentation by multiple stakeholders accrues over time. The author developed an information practice analysis tool for systematic exploration of oral history stewardship documentation. Method. A case study approach and qualitative content analysis techniques guided investigation of documentation for an oral history project held at Science History Institute in Philadelphia. Textual data was collected for a purposive sample. Analysis and results. Multiple stakeholders’ documentation schema for the purposive sample were analysed in Excel and Word. Results coded five information work models for stakeholder information practices. Discussion. The information work models portrayed stakeholder information practices as mechanisms for stability in the stewardship of contextual assets, and mechanisms for transformation through staff knowledge, as situational assets. Conclusion. Information practice analysis of oral history stewardship in this case study systematised stakeholders’ and user perspectives on access. Implications for theory development lie in leveraging the stability and transformative agency of stewardship and reuse.

The Maintenance Model of Restrictive Practices: A Trauma-Informed, Integrated Model to Explain Repeated Use of Restrictive Practices in Mental Health Care Settings

Nurses are at the forefront of care in mental health services but their role is conflicted; they carry the most responsibility for care and also for restrictive practices. The harmful effects of restrictive practices for mental health patients are well documented, have attracted negative media attention, public concern, and criticism directed specifically at nursing staff. The need to reduce restrictive practices has been highlighted by patients, carer groups, legislators, policy makers, academics, and mental health service providers. Policies and best practice guidelines have resulted, but restrictive practices remain a global problem. This theory paper proposes that inertia is partly due to the absence of a coherent model that explains the initiation and maintenance of restrictive practice in inpatient mental health settings. The conceptual development and synthesis of the model and its practical implications are discussed.

Shared goals and vision in supply chain: a mediation model of prevention-oriented practices and compliance-oriented practices

PurposeManufacturers face increasing demands to address inefficiencies and improve environmental performance across their supply chains. However, there remains a significant gap in empirical research examining how collaboration in the supply chain affects various environmental practices and their consequent impacts on performance. This study aims to address the gap by examining how shared goals and vision drives compliance-oriented and prevention-oriented practices, subsequently affecting environmental performance and operational costs—critical for fostering antifragility and resilience in today’s environment.Design/methodology/approachAn empirical study has been performed based on a sample of survey data from 279 manufacturers from fifteen countries and regions. Applying structural equation modeling analysis to the sample dataset, this study examines the mediating role of two distinct types of environmental practices between shared goals and visions and manufacturers’ environmental performance and operational cost.FindingsThis study delineates distinct pathways through which shared goals and vision affect various types of environmental practices, and consequently lead to different performance outcomes: (1) environmental impact of manufacturing activities depends on the collective efforts of the manufacturers and their supply chain partners; (2) shared goals and vision among supply chain partners facilitates both environmental performance and operational cost through prevention-oriented practice; (3) shared goals and vision in supply chain benefits operational cost performance primarily through prevention-oriented practice, but less likely through compliance-oriented practice.Practical implicationsThis study reveals two distinct pathways through which the shared goals and vision impact various performance outcomes, providing valuable guidance to businesses aiming to balance operational cost and environmental performance — crucial for resilience in today's turbulent environment.Originality/valueThis study not only corroborates existing theories of the Natural Resource-Based View and collaborative networks but also provides a detailed depiction of how collaboration across the supply chain promotes a diverse range of environmental practices and yields varied performance outcomes. It offers vital insights for supply chain participants to effectively navigate environmental challenges, enabling them to cultivate resilience and proactively address environmental issues.

Differentiating mechanism from outcome for ancestry-assortative mating in admixed human populations.

Population genetic theory, and the empirical methods built upon it, often assume that individuals pair randomly for reproduction. However, natural populations frequently violate this assumption, which may potentially confound genome-wide association studies, selection scans, and demographic inference. Within several recently admixed human populations, empirical genetic studies have reported a correlation in global ancestry proportion between spouses, referred to as ancestry-assortative mating. Here, we use forward genomic simulations to link correlations in ancestry between mates to the underlying mechanistic mate-choice process. We consider the impacts of two types of mate-choice model, using either ancestry-based preferences or social groups as the basis for mate pairing. We find that multiple mate-choice models can produce the same correlations in ancestry proportion between spouses; however, we also highlight alternative analytic approaches and circumstances in which these models may be distinguished. With this work, we seek to highlight potential pitfalls when interpreting correlations in empirical data as evidence for a particular model of human mating practices, as well as to offer suggestions toward development of new best practices for analysis of human ancestry-assortative mating.

Ensuring Legal Protection for Consumers of Halal-Certified Minang Cuisine in Padang City

This study aims to understand legal protection for consumers in Padang City to establish a model for consumer protection practices in Indonesia. The research employs a normative descriptive qualitative method, focusing on business operators and consumers of traditional Minang products, with data collected through interviews. The study reveals that legal protection for consumers concerning halal labels on Minang food is stipulated in Law No. 08 of 1999. Several reasons contribute to producers not including halal labels: high processing costs, lack of awareness about the importance of halal certification, and consumers' inherent trust in authentic Minang producers, even if the shop lacks halal certification. The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) asserts that Muslim-owned businesses should pursue halal certification regardless of the owner's religion.

The regulatory perspective examines the comprehensive and precautionary approach to drug approval and quality control, emphasizing global harmonization and collaboration. By integrating these perspectives, the paper underscores the significance of Article 24 in ensuring that only safe, effective, and high-quality medicinal products are available in the UK, thereby setting a model for global regulatory practices.

Physician Group Practices Accrued Large Bonuses Under Medicare's Bundled Payment Model, 2018-20.

The Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Advanced Model (BPCI-A), a voluntary Alternative Payment Model for Medicare, incentivizes hospitals and physician group practices to reduce spending for patient care episodes below preset target prices. The experience of physician groups in BPCI-A is not well understood. We found that physician groups earned $421million in incentive payments during BPCI-A's first four performance periods (2018-20). Target prices were positively associated with bonuses, with a mean reconciliation payment of $139 per episode in the lowest decile of target prices and $2,775 in the highest decile. In the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, mean bonuses increased from $815 per episode to $2,736 per episode. These findings suggest that further policy changes, such as improving target price accuracy and refining participation rules, will be important as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services continues to expand BPCI-A and develop other bundled payment models.

Knowledge Management Maturity Model of Higher Education Based-on Quality Culture and Human Resource Management Practices

There are 2 main important things to improve knowledge management maturity (KMM), namely organizational culture and proper HR management. There are no studies on human resource culture and management that are specific to increasing KMM in tertiary institutions. Empirical research on the influence of higher education quality culture as a goal of implementing the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) on all tertiary institutions in Indonesia and the influence of HR management on KMM is still very limited. This study aims to develop a model for improving KMM in Indonesian universities through the implementation of a quality culture and human resource management. The analysis was carried out with a structural equation model (SEM). The results showed that quality culture had a positive and significant effect on human resource management practices, but had no direct effect on knowledge management maturity. Human resource management practices have a positive and significant effect on knowledge management maturity. The results of this study prove the importance of the quality culture of higher education in developing mature knowledge management, through human resource management practices.

Chemical Composition and Geographic Variation of Cold Pressed Balanites aegyptiaca Kernel Oil.

With the increasing impacts of climate change, establishing more sustainable and robust plants such as desert dates (Balanites aegyptiaca) seems to be necessary. Known for its resilience in arid conditions, this tree has the potential to become a more important food source, particularly for its potential to yield edible oil. This study characterized Balanites kernel oil (BKO) as a promising oil source in arid regions, studying the influence of geographical origin and environmental factors. Moroccan and Sudanese BKO samples were analyzed and compared with Mauritanian BKO. In the fatty acid profile, unsaturated fatty acids constituted over 70% of the BKO profile, with a predominance of linoleic acid (Li), oleic acid (Ol), palmitic acid (Pa), and stearic acid (St). Consequently, the predominant triacylglycerols were PaLiLi, PaLiOl, LiLiOl, OlLiOl, and StLiOl. α-Tocopherol dominated the tocochromanol composition (324 to 607 mg/kg), followed by γ-tocopherol (120 to 226 mg/kg), constituting 90% of the total tocochromanols. The total phytosterol content in BKO ranged from 871 to 2218 mg/kg oil, with β-sitosterol dominating (58% to 74%). Principal Component Analysis revealed that the geographical origin significantly influences BKO composition, emphasizing environmental factors, particularly water deficit and/or temperatures. Notably, Moroccan BKO collected from an area characterized by high aridity and relatively low winter temperatures, showcased a unique profile in fatty acid, phytosterols, and tocochromanols. The valorization of BKO presents an opportunity for local agricultural development in arid regions and a role model for plant development and agricultural practices in other parts of the world.

Knowledge and handling practices for raw hen's eggs during purchase, preparation, storage, and consumption: a cross sectional study

The study aimed to assess the hen’s eggs knowledge, handling practices, and consumption among Palestinian consumers using the cross-sectional survey design. Online questionnaire was sent via social media platforms including well-known Facebook and WhatsApp groups in West bank, Gaza and Jerusalem, along with an invitation explaining the research objectives and the voluntary participation. The online questionnaire consisted of three main sections: socio demographic, knowledge and practices for hen’s eggs during purchase, preparation, storage, and consumption. The items were developed based on previous literature and international guidelines for hen's eggs purchase and handling, and subjected to content validity process, followed by a pilot study to determine the reliability of the questionnaire using Cronbach’s alpha test. The final data were analysed based on the dichotomous Rach model for knowledge and polytomous Rasch model for practices using Winsteps version 5.1.3. The Rasch SPSS output interval data files were used in the inferential analyses tests (one-way ANOVA test and independent samples t-test). The Rasch analysis showed that on average the participants had quite low level of knowledge of hen's eggs consumption safety, (person ability Mean 0.10 logit). The item difficulty measures ranged between + 1.65 (most difficult) and − 2.24 logit (easiest). It was not easy for the participants to endorse the items pertaining their practices in handling the hen’s eggs during purchase, preparation, storage and consumption, (person ability Mean − 0.11 logit). The item difficulty measures ranged between + 2.68 logits (most difficult) to − 2.45 logit (easiest). In addition, female participants significantly outperformed males in knowledge scores; and the level of hen's eggs hygiene practices and storage during purchase depended on participants’ knowledge level. The research recommended interventional programs to enhance Palestinians’ awareness and knowledge about hen's eggs knowledge, handling practices, and consumption. Further quantitative and qualitative research studies were also recommended.

Applicability of seasonal forecasts from dynamical models for reservoir management practices

Despite the availability of reliable seasonal forecasts of Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall (ISMR), the use of dynamical models driven by these forecasts for reservoir level management is limited. Reservoir water management can specially be useful if it can be done several months in advance, in view of an impending drought/flood scenario. The applicability of seasonal forecasts from the Monsoon Mission (MM) seasonal forecast model for seasonal and monthly inflow forecasts for tropical Indian reservoirs (Mula and Kangsabati) is studied using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) hydrological model, at a lead time of 3 months. Long-term observed inflow datasets are used for calibration and validation of SWAT-Calibration and Uncertainty Procedure (CUP) with Sequential Uncertainty Fitting (SUFI)-2 algorithm using insitumeteorological data. Observed inflows and inflow simulations are compared with simulated inflow using SWAT with same calibrated parameters, but with forcing derived from reforecasts from the MM model. The SWAT-CUP calibrated well with reasonable Nash Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE) (Mula = 0.75, Kangsabati = 0.79) and Percentage Bias (PBIAS) (Mula = -28%, Kangsabati = 17%) for both reservoirs. The skill scores for streamflow predictions vary from 0.6-0.70 during the monsoon season, indicating reasonable accuracy for these predictions. The SWAT-MM model has a reasonable skill with 0.52-0.53 NSE and 26%-40% PBIAS. Therefore, SWAT-MM-based model has a good potential to forecast monthly and seasonal reservoir inflow for various agro-climatic zones of India. These forecasts when used in real-time, can serve as a guideline for managing the reservoir storage and release, and hence proving to be of great socio-economic importance.

The relationship between nursing and midwifery undergraduate students’ health beliefs and breast cancer knowledge levels and their breast self-examination behavior

Abstract Purpose This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between nursing and midwifery undergraduate students’ health beliefs and breast cancer knowledge levels and breast self-examination (BSE) behavior. Materials and method This study was based on a cross-sectional research design and conducted in a Web environment. Four hundred and forty-eight female students were included who study in the 3rd or 4th years of the nursing and midwifery departments. Research data were collected between December 2020 and January 2021 by utilizing the Introductory Information Form, the Champion’s Health Belief Model Scale, and the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Knowledge Test. Results It was revealed that 52.7% of the students performed BSE on a regular basis. Based on the practice of BSE, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of benefits, obstacle perception, confidence/self-efficacy, and motivation subscales of CHBMS (p < 0.05). In terms of the risk of not performing BSE among students, having an extended family increased the risk by 3.29 times, not applying a clinical breast examination by 6.53 times, and a 1-unit increase in weighted GPA by 2.18 times; a 1-unit increase in the obstacle perception score related to BSE practice increased risk by 1.11 times. Conclusion and recommendations Nurses’ and midwives’ health beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors should be improved with regard to the importance of breast cancer and BSE throughout their education, so that they can be role models for preventive healthcare practices in society.

New Model of Inclusive Higher Education Practices in Megacities’ Universities

This study analyzes the problem of higher professional education for people with disabilities in multinational megacities from different countries. The aim of this paper is to investigate the emerging changes and perspectives of educational inclusion in the universities of Moscow, Jakarta, Barcelona, and Cairo and to develop a new model of inclusive educational practice for universities based on an inclusive ideology of understanding the position of people with disabilities in the education system and society overall. To perform this study and verify the new model proposed by the authors, participants were selected from ten universities that indicated parameters such as accessibility, participation, quality, students’ education results, and government funding. The survey aimed to collect participants’ perspectives and experiences from diverse elements of the higher education community in the aforementioned locations. 751 participants were selected for the survey with a balanced gender distribution: 48.6% men and 51.4% women. Age distribution was rather diverse: the age group of 18–24 years was 25,7%, the age group of 25–34 years was 27,3%, the age group of 35–44 years was 25,6%, and the age group of 45 years 21,4%. Another distribution was people without disabilities (N=250) and with disabilities (N=551). The reliability of the research was achieved using several methods, including ANOVA. The results of this research show similarities and differences in implementing inclusive education practices across selected locations, providing a detailed picture of the current state and future perspectives of higher inclusive education. The scientific novelty of this research lies in the theoretical-methodological rationale of the new model of inclusive higher education practices in universities of major megacities and in forming the propositions on this model’s implementation in higher education institutions. Artificial Intelligence Ethics Best Practices Model for Financial Decision-Making in Chinese Financial Institutions

Chinese financial institutions (CFIs) are increasingly embracing artificial intelligence (AI) for their financial decision-making driven by AI's capacity to mitigate risks and enhance efficiency and accuracy. However, there remain ethical challenges related to the integration of AI in financial decision-making. This study develops the AI ethics best practices model (AB-PraM) to mitigate ethical concerns and enhance the application of AI in financial decision-making. By employing a quantitative methodology, this research collected questionnaire data from 320 financial experts in CFIs. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was adopted to identify AI ethics best practices for the implementation of the AB-PraM. The findings of this research will mitigate AI ethics challenges in CFIs and provide a practical framework for transparent and accountable decision-making in alignment with ethical standards and regulations.

Decision-making and Treatment Preferences Surrounding Bacteriuria in Nonpregnant Women: A Qualitative Investigation.

Best practices suggest nontreatment for asymptomatic bacteriuria in a nonpregnant population, yet there is little literature on patient preference or understanding of asymptomatic bacteriuria treatment. We hypothesize that there might be core factors that affect antibiotic preferences and care-seeking decisions for urinary tract infection and asymptomatic bacteriuria in a postmenopausal population. We performed semi-structured interviews with postmenopausal individuals who had been previously treated for at least one patient-reported urinary tract infection. Interviews covered a discussion about their approach to seeking antibiotics for management and knowledge/preferences for asymptomatic bacteriuria management. Two authors independently coded the interviews and identified a set of symptom-related knowledge and experiences that relate to care-seeking and treatment preferences. We then graphically represented a mental model of antibiotic-seeking practices as an influence diagram, illustrating how knowledge and values affect preferences for care. We performed 30 interviews of participants with a mean age of 69.4 (SD 6.4). Among participants, there were four core factors that influence antibiotic seeking for bacteriuria. Participants noted concern for sequelae from untreated bacteria as their primary motivation, but also noted past experiences, information sources, and testing results as themes that affected their mental model surrounding bacteriuria treatment. The cognitive approach to care-seeking and treatment preference for bacteriuria is influenced by a few central factors. An improved ability to allay concerns either by provider discussions or educational materials are necessary to bridge the gap from the existence of evidence-based guidelines to patient and provider comfort with adherence to these guidelines.

Microorganism community structure: A characterisation of agrosystems from Madeira Archipelago.

Microbial diversity profoundly influences soil ecosystem functions, making it vital to monitor community dynamics to comprehend its structure. Our study focused on six agrosystems in Madeira Archipelago, analysing bacteria, archaea, fungi and AMF through classical microbiology and molecular techniques. Despite distinct edaphoclimatic conditions and management practices, bacterial structures exhibited similarities, with Alphaproteobacteria at 18%-20%, Bacilli at 11%-18% and Clostridia at 9%-14%. The predominance of copiothrophic groups suggested that soil nutrient content was the driver of these communities. Regarding archaea, the communities changed among sites, and it was evident that agrosystems provided niches for methanogens. The Crenarchaeota varied between 15% and 29%, followed by two classes of Euryarchaeota, Methanomicrobia (17%-25%) and Methanococci (4%-32%). Fungal communities showed consistent composition at the class level but had differing diversity indices due to management practices and soil texture. Sordaryomycetes (21%-28%) and Agaricomycetes (15%-23%) were predominant. Conversely, AMF communities appeared to be also influenced by the agrosystem, with Glomus representing over 50% of the community in all agrosystems. These insights into microbial groups' susceptibilities to environmental conditions are crucial for maintaining healthy soil and predicting climate change effects on agrosystems' productivity, resilience and sustainability. Additionally, our findings enable the development of more robust prediction models for agricultural practices.

HOW DO WE ENSURE THE QUALIFICATION OF CIVIL SERVANTS WITH DIGITAL SKILLS IN EUROPE? A COMPARATIVE STUDY

Digital transformation has become a desire for states due to its real benefits to society. Public sector employees must prepare professionally to successfully implement digitisation projects of public services. In this context, the issue of digital skills of civil servants is a priority for the public administration. In this study, we performed a comparative analysis of institutions that provide professional training in the digital field for public sector employees. The purpose of this work is to analyse which are the models of good practices to follow when we talk about the digital transformation of public administrations in Europe. At the same time, the objective of the comparative analysis is to establish a set of priorities regarding the digital skills that must be pursued through the professional training processes of civil servants. The work offers interesting insights on how these institutions are sharing their responsibilities. The conclusions of this study can be useful to public institutions in Romania in order to improve digital transformation processes.
