This paper discusses the time-dependent mixed convection flow of nanofluids (Al2O3-water) due to a stagnation-point over a rotating sphere in the presence of motile microorganisms. The suspension is considered to be electro-conducting and Joule heating impacts are not neglected. Exponential behaviors are considered for the included heat generation and chemical reaction influences. Besides, the non-linear radiation flux takes place in the flow area. Computational analyses are introduced for the problem formulations after converting them to similar forms. From the major results, the exponential heat generation enhances the temperature distributions while the exponential behaviors of the chemical reaction have negative influences on the nanoparticle concentration. Also, the skin friction coefficients in x− and z−directions get higher values when the rotational and the mixed convection parameters are rising. Further, the thermal scenario diminishes with increasing nanoparticle diameter, however the thermal radiation factor and the ratio between the liquid and the nanolayer conductivity significantly enhance the thermal characteristics of the water-based Al2O3 nanofluid. The findings offer practical information that might be applied to improve system performance in a number of fields, which could involve fluid mechanics, pharmaceutical technology, and thermal management, among others.

Hall effect on mixed convection MHD flow of nanofluid with clean, copper and Ag water through a vertical rotating channel

The impacts of Grashof number, radiation parameter, Prandlt number, frequency parameter, magnetic parameter, Hall parameter, parameter of rotation and its effects on primary as well as secondary velocity and temperature profiles are presented graphically. We analyze the Hall effects and mixed convection in magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of nanofluids through a vertical rotating channel, based on extensive research and applications. An analytical approach is used to derive the exact solution to this problem. A comparative study for silver and copper nanoparticles is made. A tabular solution for impacts of said parameters on convection rate and skin friction coefficient is also presented. This study is applicable for geophysical dynamics and engineering applications.

Bioconvective magnetohydrodynamic flow of tangent hyperbolic nanofluid across a stretched surface, with Arrhenius activation and convective heat and slip conditions

The current study investigates mixed convective flow of an unsteady MHD tangent hyperbolic nanofluid due to a stretching surface with motile microorganisms via convective heat transfer and slip conditions. The flow analysis's governing equations were converted into a nondimensional relation by using the proper alteration. The pertinent similarity transformations are utilized in the main equations, and the solutions are obtained using the integrated bvp4c software. A good agreement with previously published data indicates the efficacy of the numerical technique. The following are the main findings: increasing the magnitude of the radiation and mixed convection parameters improves the velocity profile, whereas the Weissenberg number and magnetic field demonstrate the opposite influence; improvements in heat transfer occur due to the thermal radiation parameter, Brownian movement, and thermophoretic effects; activation energy improves concentration profile, whereas Lewis number shows opposite effect; bioconvection Lewis number and Peclet number declines the Motile microorganism density. Additionally, a tabular analysis of the skin friction, motile microorganism density, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number is also provided.

Dual characteristics of mixed convection flow of three-particle aqueous nanofluid upon a shrinking porous plate

Purpose This study aims to analyze the thermo-hydrodynamic characteristics for the mixed convection boundary layer flow of three-particle aqueous nanofluid on a shrinking porous plate with the influences of thermal radiation and magnetic field. Design/methodology/approach The basic equations have been normalized with the help of similarity transformations. The obtained equations have been solved numerically using the shooting method in conjunction with the sixth-order Runge–Kutta technique. Numerical results for the velocity and temperature are illustrated with varying relevant parameters. Findings The results reveal that the local drag coefficient increases with higher values of the magnetic field parameter, nanoparticle volume fraction and suction parameter. On the other hand, boosting the radiation parameter and nanoparticle concentration notably enhances heat transfer. Furthermore, it is noted that the suction parameter and magnetic field parameter both lead to an increase in velocity and promote the occurrence of dual solutions within the problem conditions. Research limitations/implications The limitations are that the model is appropriate for thermal equilibrium of base fluid and nanoparticles, and constant thermo-physical properties. Originality/value To the best of the authors' knowledge, no study has taken an attempt to predict the flow and heat transfer characteristics of unsteady mixed convection ternary hybrid nanofluid flow over a shrinking sheet, particularly under the influence of magnetic field and radiation. The findings obtained here may hold particular significance for those interested in the underlying theoretical and practical implications.

Mixed convective nanofluid flow and heat transfer induced by a stretchable rotating disk in porous medium

AbstractEnhancement of “heat transfer” using “nanofluid” has diverse potential applications in heat exchangers, thermal management of electric devices, cooling of tractors, solar thermal systems, manufacturing of paper, and many others. Hence, the aim of the current investigation is to explore the impacts of “mixed convection” on “nanofluid flow” over a permeable rotating disk, which is stretched radially in a porous medium. Variable wall “temperature” and “convective boundary conditions” are also considered here. This makes the present investigation different from others. The suitable “similarity transformations” are imposed to alter the governing partial differential equations into a set of coupled ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Then, these ODEs are solved numerically by the “4th order Runge‐Kutta method” using the “shooting technique” with the help of the bvp4c package in MATLAB software. The effects of fluid controlling “parameters” on “flow and thermal fields” as well as “skin friction coefficient” and “Nusselt number” are presented graphically and explained physically. Due to enhanced rotation of the disk, the radial and azimuthal velocity of the fluid increase and the temperature of the fluid decreases. Most importantly, it is observed that when the disk rotates faster than the stretching rate, the temperature of the nanofluid decreases rapidly, which has wider applications for cooling purposes. It is also noted that when the suction parameter increases its value from −1 to 1, for Ag–water nanofluid, the “skin friction coefficient” decreases by 73.56%, and the Nusselt number also decreases by 24.11%, and for Fe3O4–water nanofluids, the “skin friction coefficient” decreases by 71.25% and the Nusselt number decreases by 24.47%.

Thermophoresis & Soret-DuFour on MHD Mixed Convection of a Nano Fluid with a Porous Medium over a Stretching Sheet with a Non-Uniform Heat Source/Sink

This work aimed to examine the effects of thermal diffusion (Soret) and diffusion-thermo (DuFour) on MHD mixed convective flow of a viscous nanofluid across a stretching sheet under a magnetic field embedded in a porous medium in the presence of non-uniform heat source/sink and chemical reaction. The governing equations are transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations using the similarity transformation approach. They are subsequently resolved computationally by use of the efficient Keller box method. The effects of different physical factors on concentration, temperature, and velocity profiles are graphically shown. Increasing Du values decreases temperature, although concentration profiles indicate the reverse. As temperature rises, the chemical reaction parameter Kr values increase, while the concentration profile decreases. The temperature was found to rise when the space-dependent (A1) and temperature-dependent (B1) parameters for heat source/sink increased. Additionally, a tabular presentation of the skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number behaviour is provided. Mixed convection heat and mass transfer flows are very important in manufacturing for designing reliable equipment, nuclear power plants, gas turbines, and various propulsion devices for aircraft, rockets, satellites, and spacecraft. The effects of non-uniform heat sources/sinks, thermophoresis, and chemical reactions on mixed convection flow play an important role in space technology and high-temperature processes.

A comparative analysis on the magnetohydrodynamic mixed convective flow of a hybrid nanofluid with radiative heat transfer using bagging regression

Hybrid nanofluids exhibit enhanced attributes such as increased mechanical strength, chemical inertness, thermal diffusivity, and structural robustness compared to traditional nanofluids. In connection with this, the current study explores a comparative analysis of the mixed convection phenomenon in a magnetohydrodynamic flow of a hybrid nanofluid with radiative heat transfer. The originality of the current illustration is to scrutinise the hybrid nanofluids with combinations of Copper–sliver (Cu–Ag), Aluminium oxide–Titanium dioxide (Al2O3–TiO2 ), and Copper–Aluminium oxide (Cu–Al2O3 ) on flow and heat transfer. Here, the basis fluids are assumed to be kerosene and water. The perturbation approach is used to solve the governing equations, and bagging regression is used to show the velocity characteristics of the hybrid nanofluid magnetohydrodynamic flow. The outcomes are scrutinised using tables and figures. The results reveal that the shear stress on a surface rises as the radiation parameter increases. The shear stress on a surface typically decreases as the magnetic field strength rises. However, shear stress escalates with the increase in radiation parameter due to heat absorption.

Electromagnetic mixed convective flow of dusty hyperbolic tangent hybrid nanofluid over a stretching surface: A quadratic regression analysis using RSM

This article investigates the flow dynamics of electrically conducting dusty hyperbolic tangent fluid over a stretching sheet with thermal radiation and heat source effects. Moreover, the suspension of Aluminium oxide (Al2O3) and Tantalum nanoparticles in engine oil as base fluid at 300 K is considered. The flow and thermal dynamics are analysed using Xue and Hamilton Crosser's thermal conductivity models. Moreover, using various ranges, the effect of the Richardson number on forced, mixed and natural convection is examined. The governing partial differential equations of the flow model are converted into ordinary differential equations and then solved numerically using the boundary value problem solver BVP4C along with the shooting technique in MATLAB. The Xue model enhances the heat transfer rate by 3.55% compared to the Hamilton Crosser model ϕ1 = 0.03, ϕ2 = 0.01, R = 0.1, Q = 0.6, βt = 0.2, βv = 0.07. A moderate adjustment to the Richardson number can reduce skin friction by 0.889% in the case of forced convection. The absence of dust particles enhances the thermal and momentum boundary layer thickness. Tantalum nanoparticles outperform Al2O3 in terms of temperature and velocity. It is possible to regulate the temperature and velocity of the backflow by changing the heat source parameter and the nanoparticle volume percentage. The maximum achievable heat transfer rate in the fourth experimental run is 0.2609 when R = 2.5 and Q = 1.5 as determined by the quadratic regression analysis.

Effect of Different Shapes of Nanoparticles on Mixed Convective Nanofluid Flow in a Darcy-Forchhiemer Porous Medium

The nanofluid has diverse applications in industries, engineering, and medicine due to its greater thermal characteristics. However, various factors such as the shape and size of nanoparticles, the base fluid, the porous medium, the quadratic drag force, and the viscous dissipation have significant effects on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of nanofluids. Therefore, it is crucial to study the influence of these factors. In this paper, a theoretical investigation is conducted to analyze the mechanisms of thermal conductivities of different shapes of nanoparticles, such as platelet, cylinder, brick and blade on the mixed convective nanofluid flow in a vertical channel saturated with porous medium. Consider ethylene glycol and water as base fluids for the nanoparticles, including copper, aluminum oxide, titanium oxide, silver, and iron oxide. A thin, movable baffle plate of negligible thickness is inserted in the channel and made into double passages. To define the porous matrix, the Darcy-Brinkaman-Forchhiemer model is used, and to define the nanofluid, the Tiwari and Das model is used. Robin boundary conditions are considered for the channel flow. The differential transform method (DTM) is applied to solve non-linear governing equations with inertia, and the perturbation method is applied to solve the problem without inertia. Velocity and temperature cantors are shown graphically using MATLAB and MATHEMATICA. The obtained values by DTM and the perturbation method are well validated and shown graphically. The Nusselt number was evaluated and tabulated for all governing parameters. The objective of this article is to investigate the effect of nonspherical shapes of nanoparticles, the base fluid, the inertial forces of the porous medium, and the buoyancy force on the thermal characteristics of flow and heat transfer of nanofluids. The main findings of this problem are that the optimum velocity and temperature cantor are found for platelet-shaped water-based silver nanofluid.

Mixed convective viscous dissipative flow of Casson hybrid nanofluid with variable thermal conductivity at the stagnation zone of a rotating sphere

AbstractMixed convection flows across the revolving bodies have eminent applications in science and technology, such as fibre coating, polymer deposition, centrifugal blood pumps, rotatory machinery, and so forth. In the current work, magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow and heat transfer characteristics of Casson hybrid nanofluid (Ag/MgO as nanoparticles) over the rotating sphere at the stagnation zone are being studied. Moreover, an analysis of heat transmission is conducted by considering the influence of thermal radiation, temperature‐dependent thermal conductivity, magnetic field, and viscous dissipation. The relevant partial differential equations are reformed into ordinary differential equations by appropriate transformations, which are solved using the successive linearization method (SLM). The thermal field, velocity components in x and z directions, heat transfer rate, and skin friction coefficient are computed for various physical quantities like rotation parameter mixed convection parameter, radiation parameter, Eckert number, Casson parameter, magnetic parameter, variable thermal conductivity parameter, and so forth. The current findings align well with the literature in a limiting sense. Thermal enhancement in hybrid nanofluid is observed for the viscous dissipation parameter (Ec), thermal conductivity parameter (), and radiation parameter (Rd). The degree of heat transfer rises from 12.8% to 20% when the Casson parameter's value () increases. Also, a decrease of approximately 33% is depicted between the peak values of the velocity magnitude with an increase in rotation parameter.

Entropy generation on the dynamics of volume fraction of nano-particles and coriolis force impacts on mixed convective nanofluid flow with significant magnetic effect

Recent advances in simulating entropy generation for dissipative cross-materials with a quartic auto catalyst are reported. Entropy generation can be used to generate entropy in any irreversible heat transfer process, which is important in thermal machines. This study examines the impact of entropy generation on the thermal transport and momentum of a continuous two-dimensional dusty fluid magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) migration across an inclined stretched sheet. We also conducted an entropy generation study to discuss the effects of viscous dissipation, the volume proportion of dust particles, and mixed convection. The two-phase models that address the fluid phase and the solid phase have been discussed. As part of the flow model’s innovation, the effect of raising particulate matter concentration on the dynamic behavior of the fluid is investigated. The described model transforms the prevailing partial differential equations (PDEs) for two phases into a nonlinearly associated, nondimensional set of equations by implementing appropriate similarity alterations. For graphical results, MATLAB programming incorporates the bvp4c mechanism. This study indicates how to examine the impact of appropriate factors on the dusty phase of fluid and the non-Newtonian fluid phase. Both the entropy generation ( E gen ) and the Bejan quantity (Be) are presented in relation to their associated dimensionless factors. Parametric research is used to evaluate the impact of different flow parameters on temperatures, entropy generation, and Bejan numbers. The heat transfer rate using several quadratic regression models, which provide more clarity in determining physical parameters crucial to engineering, is assessed. It is observed that the entropy ( E gen ) and Bejan number (Be) declines with the rising mass concentration ( β ν ) of dusty particles. Also demonstrated that for both cases, increasing the magnetic influence and dust volume fraction ( Φ D ) resulted in a decrease in velocity profiles at the same time as temperature increased.

Solar radiation and heat sink impact on fluctuating mixed convective flow and heat rate of Darcian nanofluid: Applications in electronic cooling systems

One of the most effective techniques for electronic-cooling devices involves the use of nanofluid, a substance known for its superior heat transfer capabilities. The main challenge in modern production engineering lies in the efficient cooling of electronic devices. Nanofluids have attracted widespread interest in various technical fields due to their exceptional characteristics, which enable effective cooling of electronic devices while improving energy efficiency. In the field of electronic systems, engineers are exploring the potential of nanofluids in a range of applications and phenomena. Choosing the right heat transfer fluid to dissipate heat is crucial in managing electronic component temperatures. This study examines the effects of heat sinks and thermal radiation on the flow of Darcy-Forchheimer nanofluid over a vertical plate, with the aim of enhancing the thermal durability of electronic components. The governing mathematical model has been refined to accurately represent the physical coefficients. To develop a relevant algorithm in the FORTRAN environment, primitive variables are employed in steady-state and oscillatory models, nanomaterial and heat sink. Outputs are presented numerically and graphically using Tecplot 360, revealing that an increase in heat sink capacity leads to a reduction in surface temperature due to the heat sink's ability to absorb excess thermal energy. The use of porous Darcy-Forchheimer material is shown to lower the fluid temperature. The study also shows that the heat transfer rate decreases with an increase in the heat sink coefficient, and the oscillatory frequency of heat transfer reduces with a decrease in the Prandtl number. Decreasing behavior of heat transfer is depicted for maximum thermophoretic factor due to heat sink impact.

Numerical analysis of the heat transfer application on a convective tangent hyperbolic nanofluid flow over a porous stretching cylinder with stratification effects

The nanofluids has attractive applications in the industrials and engineering field because nanofluids offer the improvement in the thermal efficiencies of flow, which is very fruitful in the energy sector. This study emphases on the numerical exploration of heat and mass transfer efficiencies on a mixed convective flow of tangent hyperbolic nanofluid under the consideration of gyrotactic microorganisms. To analyze the magnetized boundary layer flow, the stratification boundary conditions are considered on the surface of the stretching cylinder. The thermal analysis involves the important features such as activation energy, nonuniform heat source/sink, and nonlinear thermal radiation. The flow model is altered into system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by utilization of suitable similarity variables and Bvp4c solver on the MATLAB to find numerical solutions. The graphical and tabulated investigation is presented for various developing parameters thoroughly. The results indicate that by the increment of mixed convection parameters the fluid velocity accelerate consequently, whereas raising values of the Weissenberg number reduce the fluid velocity. TThe greater values of the Prandtl number lead to a decrease in fluid temperature, while the concentration of nanoparticles rises with the increase in activation energy parameters. Additionally, the heat transfer rate reduces due to stronger values of thermophoresis parameter, although reverse tendency is observed for the greater values of Brownian motion parameter.

Numerical modeling of mixed convective nanofluid flow with fractal stochastic heat and mass transfer using finite differences

This study presents the first comprehensive numerical simulation of heat and mass transfer in fractal-like mixed convective nanofluid flows. The flow of non-Newtonian nanofluids over flat and oscillating sheets is modelled mathematically, and a finite difference scheme is used to solve this model. The two-stage scheme can tackle fractal and fractal stochastic mathematical models of partial differential equations. The consistency in the mean square is proved, and Fourier series stability analysis is adopted to find stability conditions for fractal stochastic partial differential equation. The scheme is applied to solve the unsteady Casson nanofluid flow over the flat and oscillatory sheet, which affects thermal radiation, heat source, and chemical reaction. The existence of the solution is also provided for the Navier-Stokes equation of the considered flow model using fractal time derivative. The graph illustrates that the proposed fractal technique achieves faster convergence than the Crank-Nicolson approach. Applications in energy systems, materials science, and environmental engineering are just a few of the domains that could benefit from a better understanding of mixed convective nanofluid flows with fractal features, and that is what this research study hopes to accomplish. Scientists and engineers may better develop efficient and environmentally friendly systems by simulating and analyzing these complicated processes with the suggested finite difference technique.

Mixed convective flow of engine oil-based non-Newtonian tri-hybrid nanofluid across a porous rotating disk

Purpose Flow induced by rotating disks is of great practical importance in several engineering applications such as rotating heat exchangers, turbine disks, pumps and many more. The present research has been freshly displayed regarding the implementation of an engine oil-based Casson tri-hybrid nanofluid across a rotating disk in mass and heat transferal developments. The purpose of this study is to contemplate the attributes of the flowing tri-hybrid nanofluid by incorporating porosity effects and magnetization and velocity slip effects, viscous dissipation, radiating flux, temperature slip, chemical reaction and activation energy. Design/methodology/approach The articulated fluid flow is described by a set of partial differential equations which are converted into one set of higher-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs) by using convenient conversions. The numerical solution of this transformed set of ODEs has been spearheaded by using the effectual bvp4c scheme. Findings The acquired results show that the heat transmission rate for the Casson tri-hybrid nanofluid is intensified by, respectively, 9.54% and 11.93% when compared to the Casson hybrid nanofluid and Casson nanofluid. Also, the mass transmission rate for the Casson tri-hybrid nanofluid is augmented by 1.09% and 2.14%, respectively, when compared to the Casson hybrid nanofluid and Casson nanofluid. Originality/value The current investigation presents an educative response on how the flow profiles vary with changes in the inevitable flow parameters. As per authors’ knowledge, no such scrutinization has been carried out previously; therefore, our results are novel and unique.

Thermal performance of mixed convective radiative peristaltic flow of Bingham nanofluid

The significance of peristaltic phenomena has generated substantial interest within the fields of biological and biomedical engineering. Therefore, the present study deals with magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) peristaltic flow of Bingham nanofluid in a channel. Here the channel walls are symmetric and elastic in nature. Velocity slip, heat and mass convective conditions are enforced on channel walls. The aspects of dissipation, Joule heating and mixed convection is analyzed. Thermal transport included the features of thermal radiation, Brownian and thermophoresis motion. Analysis and modelling are investigated in the presence of the phenomenon heat generation and absorption. The analysis has been wrapped up under the assumptions of a long wavelength and a low Reynolds number. Numerical techniques are implemented for finding the solutions of governing differential system. Results for velocity, concentration, thermal field, rate of heat transfer, skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are analyzed subject to pertinent parameters. The study reveals that velocity is enhanced via both thermal Grashof number and velocity slip parameter. Temperature shows opposite behavior against radiation and Brinkman number. Rate of heat transfer enhances for larger values Brownian motion and Hartman parameters. This study's practical applications include the use of peristaltic pumps for drug delivery in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

Double diffusive mixed convective flow over a wedge and cone in the presence of Brownian diffusion and thermophoresis parameter

The present article examines the double diffusion mixed convective nanofluid flow over a wedge and cone in which slip effects as Brownian motion and the thermophoretic parameter are considered. Mixed convective flow over wedges and cones is applied in different technical fields such as fiber technology, nuclear cooling systems, surface treatment, spray deposition techniques, and polymer production. Double diffusion is increasingly significant in scientific fields like astronomy, geosciences, oceanography, and chemical processes. Mixed convection occurs in several applications such as electric devices, solar panels, nuclear power plants, heat exchangers, radiators, and atmospheric boundary layer fluxes. The governing equations of the study are highly coupled nonlinear partial differential equations with surface constraints. The process of similarity transformation used to converts partial differential equations into nondimensional ordinary differential equations, which can be resolved using the MATLAB Bvp5c function. The graphical representation and detailed analysis of variations in velocity, temperature, and concentration distributions of nanofluids are presented. As the mixed convection parameter increases, the fluid’s velocity rises, with a more pronounced effect observed in the cone compared to the wedge. As the Brownian diffusion parameter grows, the fluid temperature increases, and velocity is more pronounced in the wedge scenario compared to the cone. Moreover, an increase in the thermophoresis parameter results in an elevation in the fluid’s temperature. Additionally, the wedge has a higher concentration of fluid and nanoparticles compared to the wedge. Fluid concentration falls with increasing Schmidt number, but fluid nanoparticle concentration decreases with increasing Lewis number.

PurposeThis paper aims to investigate the hydrodynamic instability properties of a mixed convection flow of nanofluid in a porous channel.Design/methodology/approachThe treated single-phase nanofluid is a suspension consisting of water as the working fluid and alumina as a nanoparticle. The anisotropy of the porous medium and the effects of the inclination of the magnetic field are highlighted. The effects of viscous dissipation and thermal radiation are incorporated into the energy equation. The eigenvalue equation system resulting from the stability analysis is processed numerically by the spectral collocation method.FindingsAnalysis of the results in terms of growth rate reveals that increasing the volume fraction of nanoparticles increases the critical Reynolds number. Parameters such as the mechanical anisotropy parameter and Richardson number have a destabilizing effect. The Hartmann number, permeability parameter, magnetic field inclination, Prandtl number, wave number and thermal radiation parameter showed a stabilizing effect. The Eckert number has a negligible effect on the growth rate of the disturbances.Originality/valueLinear stability analysis of Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) mixed convection flow of a radiating nanofluid in porous channel in presence of viscous dissipation.
